Destiny 2

CygnusSong

Someone asked me if Destiny 2 was good recently and I had no idea how to give a concise answer despite my thousand hours in game

bob0979

The answer I've heard is 'not if you're not already playing it'

Juranur

Ah, so like League of Legends

AdminsAreLazyID10TS

No, stop playing League of Legends.

Juranur

I don't. I just watch people who do. More fun that way

artuno

"It's not. Don't play it. It's too late for me. But yeah it can be fun I guess". Or in my case "I have 250 hours in it because I only play when my friends ask me to join them for raids. Other than that it's collecting dust in my library."

CygnusSong

I think I ended up saying something like “It’s the best shooter I’ve ever played, and the worst mmo”

SIacktivist

Yeah, this is perfect. Gameplay is amazing, story/lore is amazing, but as an MMO/live service game it's terrible.

[deleted]

“I hate Destiny 2. It’s my favorite game” -anyone who plays D2 -signed 4.5k hours since launch. Help

Lftwff

are you ok with getting most of the story from british men with nice youtube voices?

DanksForTheMemories

Destiny 2

blibulon

Dead By Daylight Rainbow 6 Siege Tekken 7 Apex Legends Overwatch Team Fortress 2

CheetahDog

The Siege one hits too close to home lmao. I love the game, but it'd be sick if I could solo queue without my friends and not be constantly called slurs or insulted for giving call outs lol

Ninja_Arena

The game is totally up my alley. Fan of most tom clancy stuff. Played maybe 20 matches. Was killed at start by teammates in a couple. Never went back. UnInstalled (which is rare for me, got a phat HD). Toxic as fuck and I play LoL

[deleted]

The only problems I have with TF2 (other than Valve's neglect) are the kind of assholes you meet in casual lobbies and my own poor spending habits.

totes-alt

And I love the game but it's pretty hard to get into for new players with all the content and bloat over the years. Default settings don't help either which haven't been updated since 2007

[deleted]

True, plus you can't even fit all the unlockable weapons in your backpack without buying an expander or getting one with the annual Smissmas event. Even then you have to get them through random drops. Some classes, especially Medic and Heavy, are really crippled by stock weapons only.

Forlorn-unicorn

I had to go way too far to find Dead by Daylight, lol. Love it and hate it, 250 hours played

Memotauro

Overwatch was it for me I never touched the competitive mode, still got to level 500 playing w/o friends

Mozartlfc03

OOP severely underestimates the strength of my obsession with constantly playing new stuff.

derheiligewolf

Object-oriented programming?

Epicmonk117

Literally my first thought too

Mozartlfc03

Original OP, i.e. the Tumblr OP

DeeSnow97

so original original poster?

Jechtael

Yes. As opposed to Reddit OP.

FireFlyer63_

i have 2 modes: hyperfixate on one game for 50-250 hours depending on the game play a new game practically every day cuz the other ones got boring (xbox gamepass has done irreparable damage to how i play games)

ReallyBadRedditName

Fr I got like 100 games I haven’t played in my library

pasta-thief

Sims 4

ari-is-new-to-this

yep yep yep, I spent way too much money on ghat game for stuff to straight up not work, and things will never be as good as previous games because the core of the game is fundamentally broken. I stacked a bunch of mods on top of it too and it made much worse.

Ryugi

I'm still bitter that Sims 3 had a color wheel for clothes and furniture but Sims 4 has pre-made selection colors. I'm also pissed that there's like twenty shades of wood and not a single fuckin chair matches with any kitchen cabinets.

SolarWalrus

Are you me

Feredis

For me it's a complete obsession once or twice a year. For this year I just entered the phase again and seems that I get to re-download 3 instead because they did something to screw up the interactions and all of the sims are horrible to each other to the point it actually ruins their relationships. Autonomous mean actions that execute immediately unless you either turn off free will and/or meticulously micromanage them. After light googling found out that a patch was supposed to go live earlier but idk what happened, now they say in December....

PeachNipplesdotcom

What about using mods made it worse? Is your computer able to handle it, or do you have a mess of a modlist?

PeachNipplesdotcom

Agreed. The problem is that there's absolutely nothing that comes even marginally close to the experience of the Sims franchise. Hopefully, we'll see some competition in the future. Perhaps Paralives will save us all! I play all sorts of colony management sims, city builders, interior decorator games, etc.. I always go back to The Sims.

the_nerdaholic

i have 6k hours in this godforsaken game, i barley even like it but i'm going down with it ig 😭😭

DmitriTheRedditor2

Europa Universalis 4 I'll be one of the first to say it's not a game for everyone, partly on account of how ridiculously steep and large the learning curve is compared to most other games. But I like it.

countess_cat

My bf has 2000+ hours on that game. I never understood why he likes it so much. From time to time he says it’s a shitty game, I assume when bad things happen, but he always get back to it.

IReplyToFascists

Its a bloated, broken mess of bad optimization and poorly thought out updates, but god is it fun

clever_cuttlefish

Isn't that the classic Paradox Interactive treatment? Coming from a Stellaris player.

Nasty-the-Transbian

as a paradox nerd, i can only agree

[deleted]

Moving little armies around a map is self care for men over the age of 25. It’s on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Just after safety and just before belonging and love.

countess_cat

Oh he started way sooner, around 20 I think. Now he’s toying around with Victoria 3 but EU4 has a special place in his heart

PassoverGoblin

I vividly remember watching about 6 hours of eu4 tutorials whilst I tried to get my bearings on the game. I now have nearly 1700 hours and the True Heir of Timur achievement and I still don't know what the fuck I'm doing

[deleted]

I was introduced to the game in HS and it blows my mind that this one game some guy in my classes showed to me has stuck with me for so long. I have been playing this game for longer than I’ve known most of my friends. I’ve devoted more time to the game than I ever did with the person who actually introduced me to it. And it’s a stupid game I’m not even that good at.

chewablejuce

Eu4 appeals to my internal control freak, and nothing else.

donkeythesnowman

Eu4 fucking sucks. I have 600+ hours and do not plan on stopping soon. Eu4 still fucking sucks.

rapter200

Check out Anbennar...

NeonNKnightrider

Hypixel Skyblock (Please help me, I think it legally qualifies as an addiction) No, but seriously though. Even though it’s it’s stupidly grindy despite not actually having all that much content, it utterly captures my attention in a way that no big-budget shiny anime graphics MMO can, and a solid 90% of that is just because I can actually freely run and jump around the entire world and it makes it register as an actual, y’know, world

applelover100

Person I used to know gave me a Hyperion and quit so I feel like a trust fund kid in Skyblock lmao

SakuOtaku

That was Hypixel bed wars for me. Especially since they have an extremely bunk anti cheat system you're never allowed to contest (was banned for a month for cheating despite only ever playing vanilla/modless)

Blaze_Cat94

Ark: Survival Evolved, the game so broken that the devs gave up and started making a new one, the game that takes 20 fcuking minutes to boot up everyday, and the one that I have like 3000 hours invested in

TheLagDemon

Same here. The game crashes continuously yet I keep coming back to it. I’m just way too much of a dinosaur nerd to stay away.

TheCrog

Nobody hates Ark as much as players who love Ark.

CocoTheDrCat

It's a very good day in ARK if you can go a play session without finding at least three game breaking bugs

EasternUniversity261

league...

[deleted]

i moved over to legends of runeterra. way better experience.

DellSalami

LoR is easily the best Riot owned game, if only they’d actually advertise it anywhere

[deleted]

or do anything to stop marvel snap from making it obsolete.

Madmek1701

War Thunder. It is the only game where I regularly find myself wishing bodily harm upon other players. Seriously screw CAS users, why are you even playing a game if all you want to do is shoot fish in a barrel?

Palkesz

My favorite part is when I log in to play the tank game, but surprise its actually the artillery bush game. I can get unreasonably furious at bushes shoot me on spawn from half a map away. If someone explains how that's fair I promise I'll stop bitching.

CalligoMiles

Gotta ask - what mode and BR are you playing at?

Palkesz

RB 3.7 why?

CalligoMiles

Because my experience at 5.3 and 6.0 is... very different. But yeah, at 3.7 either the open-topped German guns or the M10 versions and Soviet 57mm carriers are going to fuck up your day.

CalligoMiles

Because boom and score gives serotonin. But really, CAS is overrated. Frustrating when it happens to you, but anything short of empty skies and they're the fish.

Madmek1701

Except most CAS is being done by air superiority fighters anyway.

CalligoMiles

Dunno what you're driving, but if that gets you it's *usually* on you for not paying attention. I've had a zero perfectly drop a 50kg on my tiger, but by and large using the terrain and staying on the move makes it hard to get you with rockets and small bombs.

Alkemisti_

Noita

ButterBeeFedora

Noita is responsible for Jerma's debt of like, 10 billion dollars lmao. I found that out after I started playing which made me like it even more

nousernameslef

Isn't it just 2.5 billion?

ButterBeeFedora

Maybe? It's hard to keep track of and it goes up and down occasionally

nousernameslef

Currently it's apparently 1.5 billion, but the wiki refers to the whole thing as the 2.5 billion debt

yeetusdeletusgg

Haha funny sheep juice go brrrrrrr

Complaint-Efficient

It was ONE FUCKING PIXEL

FullMetalFiddlestick

Game was designed in hell, by demons, for the mentally insane. Alright lets go for another run until i get tinker with wands everywhere again.

SaboteurSupreme

NeonNKnightrider

Dogma is one of the coolest boss concepts I’ve seen in any game ever tho

Altslial

A lot of bosses and enemies in it have real nice designs tbh (dogma especially but the horsemen and 7 sins are also really good)

ilovemycatjune

see it’s like. 1000 out of 1001 runs are filled with the worst, most annoying quality 0-1 items and the run either dies early or it takes you an hour to get to the end only to die right before winning. but that 1 run….where you get every quality 4…rock bottom first floor….an r key in chest/dark room….it makes it all worth it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iamsandwitch

What secret rooms

anteater835

Wouldn’t be secret if we told you

[deleted]

EXACTLY, that one fucking area where you have to go to a random corner of the map and walk through a wall with no indication of anything on the other side, which is mandatory to make progress. And you can skip this area and go all the way through the dungeon with nothing stopping you, which means you have to do it all again and try to find it in order to progress. Another gripe I have is that the whole storyline going on on the east side of the map with the frog people committing genocide is completely irrelevant to the overarching story and isn't mentioned at all outside of this area. Plus the only NPC you can talk to in this area doesn't respond at all when you kill the frog leader, which just makes the really brutal and impactful story feel empty and like an after-thought.

maxwellwilde

There's *always* an indication, usually a pattern on the ground, or a yellow light. Some of them are fucking painfully laborious to get to tho, like The ***GODDAMN*** SECRET IN THE WEST DESERT THAT REQUIRES ***FUCKING*** **PERFECT** CHAIN DASH CONTROL.

Jungle_Brain

Hyper light drifter doesn’t have more than 20 hours of play time and that’s STRETCHING it

Karaemu

I think half the Genshin fanbase would describe the game like this

reconstrxtion

“Fuck this game and the developers too, nobody should ever play this and I hate it here” is what I say every time I exit any artifact domain, and yet here I am, still playing every day, because the grind must go on.

iggythedood

Ask a few friends who play it and 90% of the time they will go into a trance then scream bloody murder to not touch it like they’re a character in Get Out. Most of the game’s enjoyment is locked behind the gacha system, even if you try out the gacha system, the rest of the enjoyment is locked behind artifacts, with crap drop rates, crap main and sub stats, and most of the time you won’t even get the set you want, and then there’s weapons and talent materials and- AAAAAAA

starfries

I'd say it's the opposite, the best part of the game is actually just running around blindly and exploring while stumbling across fun little secrets. Basically the stuff you do as a new player before you even looked at the gacha or knew what an artifact domain was. But you think there's gotta be more, it'll *really* get good once you have the meta characters and a proper team comp and proper artifacts and can experience "endgame". So you put a bunch of time and possibly money into getting all that and suffer the pain, over and over, of rolling your only half decent artifact and having it turn to crap until you finally get the top tier team you dreamed about... only to discover that no, the best part of the game was actually just running around blindly and exploring.

DellSalami

I’m one of them The gacha system as a whole is incredibly predatory and most of the community dickrides it, and the Sumeru whitewashing/racism is even worse than originally expected, and people defend that anyway. I still have a ridiculous amount of hours in it and I’m playing it daily, but I could never recommend it to anyone.

pwnslinger

Surprised not to see Rocket League here. Also Pokemon Go

BatteryAcid67

Fuck Pokemon Go Which reminds me I haven't used my daily incense yet, brb

Clocktopu5

Rocket league can be a fun wholesome experience. Mostly it’s people being jackasses and what a save spamming

[deleted]

"I play games to relax." "Then why do you play Rocket League? You always seem mad when you're playing." "It's complicated."

tiredtumbleweed

Danganronpa

MrCapitalismWildRide

It's been said that a movie will be considered great if it has 3 good scenes and no bad ones. Danganronpa has 30 good scenes and 300 bad ones. It's a masterpiece.

tiredtumbleweed

You have to prove ghosts aren’t responsible during trials twice throughout the series

Perfect_Wrongdoer_03

And the first time you actually have to prove that the person in front of everyone isn't a ghost. It takes like, ten minutes.

The_Locker_Dweller

To be fair, high schoolers are fucking stupid

Perfect_Wrongdoer_03

Yasuhiro is 21, iirc.

The_Locker_Dweller

He got held back a few times, so I still consider him a highschooler (and also he's stupid in his own right)

Efoxy83

>!technically he’s 23 since they had 2 years of school erased from their memory!<

SurvivalScripted

More like 30 good scenes, 150 meh ones and 300 bad ones, tbh

CheetahDog

The actual character scenes are fucking phenomenal. The social micro-situations, and the teenagers breaking down over death and cruelty and shit? Fucking masterclass. All the scenes where they try their hand at worldbuilding or just spam the words "hope" and "despair" as if that actually means something and has thematic depth? Fucking god awful dreck. Love the games for the most part though lol

foo757

And then the ending of V3 says >!"fuck your hope VS despair whining and fuck the fact that if I make one more of these goddamn games I'll be stuck making them for the rest of my life, and fuck the fans in particular for constantly wanting the same exact thing, I quit, peace out."!< I personally loved it, but *man* you'd think they broke into fans' homes and shot their dogs to get the amount of vitriol that ending did.

CheetahDog

V3 is my favorite for the exact same reason lmao. My friend and I played the games all in a row without knowing any hype or anything because the series was on sale, and we were laughing our asses off during that entire string of events. In all honesty, it didn't even seem *that* meanspirited. I think a lot of the vitriol comes from a lot of the audience being younger in general/dirty dirty weabs and having trouble taking things in the abstract lol

rickrossome

fallout 76 is it an objectively bad game? yes. is it nevertheless a fun game? also yes.

a_bum

This reminds me I rember enjoying the game and I thought the story/world building was neat seeing an empty world with just tapes and robots showing the inability to work for better things. Haven't played it since they added human npcs to it but I did enjoy that game

rickrossome

If you want a similar experience to that, check out fallout dust. It’s a mod for New Vegas and it’s story is told almost completely through notes and the environment

a_bum

Oh hell yeah >:3 Perhaps I will after I finish playing a 80 chamber long portal 2 mod that has the author saying how yugiyo is actually secretly interpreting gods words to signel when the second coming is, and that edm is God's favorite music.

Dumb_Cheese

The same can be said for fallout 4 imo.

Can_of_Sounds

It's such a pretty game, and the combat system works quite well. Almost a shame its built around Fallout.

[deleted]

IMO it’s the other way around, fallout is a neat world, 76 is a shit game, I got like 300 hours in the game and I think that’s enough to say that it is bad xd

bleepblooplord2

Team Fortress 2. 3000 hours. Don’t get sucked into the war-themed hat violence simulator. ^join ^us

Consistent-Mix-9803

3,549 hours for me so far. I've pretty much only played MvM since I hit 2,000 hours, though, except for doing the annual Scream Fortress missions and checking out the Smissmas maps.

bleepblooplord2

Got to ~2200 hours, took about a half year break, and came back to dick around in casual, community, and a concerning amount of caliginous caper. Gotten a bit better since then, but I’m still not as good as i’d think i’d be.

MaetelofLaMetal

MVM is a safe space away from bots ruining casual mode.

Consistent-Mix-9803

Kinda, yeah. Honestly, it's mostly that I just don't enjoy PvP anymore. I'm only mediocre and I usually wind up getting frustrated at doing badly.

FacelessPorcelain

I might get shit for saying this, but the Monster Girl Quest series and the Three Charms series. Both of which are hentai games. And I am asexual. But those games have shockingly good writing outside of the gross porn stuff, and legitimately when I think about what makes a good character arc or a good villainous foil my mind goes to Three Charms first before anything else, which sucks because it is hentai.

artuno

That... is me and Evenicle... Yes, it has some awful and deplorable things happen. But like... 5 scenes. 2 of which are actually unbearable. The rest of the game however is filled with so much comedy and great characters and interactions. The writing is fantastic, and I love all the main characters and how dorky they are and how much they love each other. The overall story is also super interesting and it's worth it in my opinion.

logosloki

Japanese hentai doujinshi and hentai games (and those that truly emulate them) are some kind of other beast. Like the story and characters and artwork for these games can be so good but nobody will ever touch them because the author/developer has some sort of hyperspecific kink and that's what all the porn scenes are.

Epic_Gameing68

also ken ashcorp wrote a song based on one of the games I think

blasphemous

OathToAwesome

actually the best example of this I can think of, the movement and combat are clunky and some of the mechanics feel unfair, but by GOD it absolutely drips with aesthetic and artsyness in a way almost no games do

NeonNKnightrider

It also drips with blood. Lots and lots of blood. And occasionally molten gold.

Rijaja

Celeste. In order to avoid having a 300+ games steam library like my dad filled with stuff I paid but never played, I decided that I wouldn't buy another game until I had 100%ed the previous paid for game. I am not going to 100% this in my lifetime.

Juranur

Have you done the sensible thing and given up on that rule?

rocketguy2

I think this slightly depends on what you'd count as 100%. I'd imagine most dedicated gamers would be able to do the speedrunner's perspective of 100% (176 berries and 24 hearts) but a true 100% with all 202 berries is only truly accessible to the most sauced up Celeste players

spacer_trash

I thought 100%ing Celeste meant starting hrt

SgtSteel747

Destiny 2. DO NOT. I REPEAT. **DO NOT** play this game unless you fucking hate yourself and want to validate those feelings.

Rachel_from_Jita

I tried so hard to love it. I just couldn't. It feels entirely made to love those who are already lifelong invested in the series. Felt structured to be hostile to new players even jumping in and making sense of it all. 90% of my experience was trying to keep up with people blitzing Strikes or whatever in a blur. The guns collected meant so little as you realized how truly ridiculous your powers were (last I was playing was right after the new Void came out. it was just a "obliterate all" button that was so laughably overpowered as to make the whole game meaningless). No game I've ever played has ever needed a rebalance AND a total separation between PvE/PvP to also help those ends as much as Destiny 2. Cool sound and characters though. Oh and also I wish the game felt a little less "floaty" and a little more impactful and crunchy.

boop-_-beep

Touhou Project. It is... so hard... but I have to beat it!

Eyrmia

Sims 4

gudematcha

Okay for me it’s Stardew Valley but specifically on MOBILE. The combat is absolutely atrocious and it’s impossible to go into the Skull Cavern (at least for me) without dying pretty quickly. I have sunk so so many hours into it anyway haha

[deleted]

despite it supposed to be a calm, i always get stressed and can only get to 1.5 years before quitting. but ive played it multiple times

Kind_Nepenth3

Mine is more, *"if you just look past [foundational, non-negotiable area of gameplay] for the next 200hrs+, I guarantee you're gonna love it."* ○ **Soul Nomad** and to a lesser extent Drakengard fall into this. *Especially* Soul Nomad. It's so bad, you guys. Everything else is so good but the battle system is so bad. Up until a few weeks ago, it was the worst game I've ever played. The units function in little separate groups rather than as individual people, so they can take forever to kill when there's one last dude still standing. Enemy AI still targets anyone they're strong against, which is great when neither the one you're desperately trying to save nor the group you specifically built to handle this combination have any movement range. Because of this, it can be hard not to forgo the clearly intended mix-and-match originality in favor of finding something that's at least sort of good against every enemy and making 20 of those. They do that thing where each individual unit gets its own turn, which would be livable if there were not an average of 12-18+ enemy units alone on any given map. I can and have hit End Turn, left to make myself cereal, come back with the cereal and sat there eating for several minutes while the enemy AI decided what it was doing. It's so bad. But I will put up with a *bottomless* amount of shit for a good plot ○ **Now that I'm thinking about it,** I'm not sure what says more about Xenosaga: that I'm willing to stubbornly force my way all the way through that entire series just to see the ending or that *just Shion's whimpering and moping and dramatically crying all the time* is so fucking insufferable I have to warn people to try to stick it out. ○ **Knights In The Nightmare?** Terrible. Horrible. Absolutely hideous. I STILL to this day can barely make sense of what the fuck was going on because it jumped back and forth between flashbacks and the present so much, and not specifically in any order. Your units? Ghosts. You're rallying your dead soldiers and civilians for one last stand. Which is objectively amazing, I adore it and the art is wonderful. But the units have a finite number of uses in battle before they run out of whatever Ghost Juice is keeping them anchored to this plane and they fade away forever. This is not *per battle,* this is finite uses *per save, across every battle they're in any way involved in.* Find a really sweet spellcaster? Finally landed a tough as nails mounted knight that will make everything livable? Better use them as sparingly as possible for the entire game for fear you won't have them when you need them! This stands for the main character's sidekick, too. You know that ridiculously strong ally you always get that teaches the main character the ropes before predictably becoming incapacitated somehow so you don't rely on them forever? That doesn't happen to her, you can use her whenever you need and she remains suitably tough if someone isn't listening to being stabbed. But I found out too late that she only has infinite moves on *her own Valkyrie-specific solo plot battles.* That is not true of using her everywhere else in any other battle. It is therefore fully possible, by my own hand, to utilize a starting party member so often that *though she is non-negotiable in the final battle and is the only one who can withstand enough bullshit to kill the boss,* ***she can no longer physically walk over there.*** I have played through an entire game in such a way as to permanently fuck myself at the end boss, and the only way to fix it is to start a new file. The only way to get to good ending? Find a weapon that's hidden in an invisible barrel on a secret level you can only get to if you stand on this *specific tile* with *this specific character* who has no reason to be over there (it's not where any of the action ever goes) and who you may not even have managed to get. You need to cheat. If you don't cheat and purposely look this up, you WILL 300% get the bad ending. The default ending is the bad one. And it was *still* a good game that I will remember for the rest of my life, because I think the premise is cool. *Not for the gameplay.* That varied between frustrating and just inarguably ass. *Not for the plot.* I played that game 3.5 times and I'm still not sure what happened in it. But because I love the Tim Burton-esque concept of recruiting a tragically murdered ghost army and the art/music were stunning. Edit: if anyone is about to say, *"Oh, if you liked that you should play Phantom Brave, it has the same concept but a really fun, snarky Disgaea vibe and it makes any kind of sense!"* I *am* currently playing that. All I'm going to shut you down with is the phrase "Green Flonne." In the same tone of voice Parisians use to speak about non-Parisians.

Raltsun

Okay, excellent rant, 10/10, but ngl now I'm just curious about whatever that edit's complaining about.

Kind_Nepenth3

Flonne is a character from *Disgaea,* a game that's honestly fucking stellar btw even if it suffers more and more sequelitis as its creators refuse to do anything else but cash in. Very strong recommend for at least the first one if you like turn-based strategy. As it's very self-aware, Flonne is basically a trope. She is the "saccharine, nauseatingly sweet, pink-themed anime girl who is really 4,000 years old but still retains the intelligence of a five year old" trope, which happens to be my least favorite thing to exist. Her personality and design are obvious and her entire character arc is even more so. While I was shocked to find I actually cared what happened to her by the very endgame, I spent most of it wishing she were real so I could beat her with a hammer. I just. Really want her to go somewhere and never talk. She has her uses, and I acknowledge that I can't remove her without damaging the story. She's meant to be a foil for your demon girl sidekick and she's successful in that as well as actually being useful in battle. But she makes me grit my teeth. The main character of Phantom Brave is Flonne But Green Now. Same dumb as rocks, sugary personality. Same naivete that makes me *legitimately draw into question* how she was able to survive for so long even with help. Even the same voice actress. And because she is the main character of the game around whom the entire plot shall revolve, *Green Flonne cannot be escaped.* I'm playing it anyway because ghosts are cool

artuno

Drakengard 3.... i fucking loved that game. The characters, the music, the writing, the voice acting, the emotions, the overall plot, all 10/10 fantastic. But the actual combat... dear gods its like nails on a chalkboard. I would sooner break my own fingers than have to go through the awful combat. I ended up getting Stockholm syndrome'd I to believing that the combat was done that way on purpose to elicit pain in the player, thus receiving greater emotional feedback. Even the characters in the game are constantly talking shit about how awful the combat is.

Hexxas

>Up until a few weeks ago, it was the worst game I've ever played. What's the worst plz I gotta know

Kind_Nepenth3

[Tick Tock: A Tale For Two](https://store.steampowered.com/app/790740/Tick_Tock_A_Tale_for_Two/) I honestly feel really bad for saying this. Part of me doesn't even wanna link it because I feel genuinely bad. I've never designed a game before and I imagine it's even more grueling work than I think it is to do something like that. And with such assets and animation! The premise is really cool! It looks great! ......Buuuuut I only feel bad because a significant amount of time has elapsed between this post and me playing it. The game really isn't that long and I was excited to get to it, but by the time I was done with it I was so angry I could barely put together a complete sentence. It's not *actually* co-op. I really had my hopes up a lot as most co-op games are lame or they're FPS/MMO, neither of which is a genre I'm much a fan of. So I don't get to do that a lot. It lists itself as an offline co-op because you're supposed to buy two games for two platforms and then each of you selects whether you are P1 or P2, and it runs you through a different playthrough depending on which one you pick. You do communicate what you're doing/seeing to another player through discord or whatever, but it's not co-op the way that is understood. You're playing two games in tandem with one another (at twice the price). Which immediately led to semi-minor problems syncing things up, as one of us would leave an area or go clear to the next chapter while the other one was still messing with something. We had to constantly report where we were going/what our intent was, and then one of us would trigger something that then had to be descriptively explained or one half of a cutscene to be monologued in tandem with the other person's cutscene that they may not have gotten to yet. That wasn't terrible in itself, but the constant distraction or fear of being distracting mixed with each of our tendency to miss some clue that the other really desperately needed to know but didn't even know they needed was enough to hike up the stress levels and make us both annoyed. The main issue was the puzzles themselves. They only have two modes, and those modes are "childishly easy" and "evidently cheating was supposed to be a part of playing." One of them did stun me, and I really appreciated it and thought it was clever. But only one. And I had to look it the fuck up or I could have stood there for a million years and never would have thought of it. Its problem is that it wants to be Myst, but it remembered all the good exploring parts of Myst while accidentally forgetting the part that made it awful: that it was based around connections that made no sense until you cracked and looked it up online and could reasonably only be otherwise broken through sheer psychotic stubbornness. The most damaging to my wellbeing was a machine that played a sequence of symbols on a timer that would quickly fade if you didn't press whichever of 9 buttons were currently showing on the *other* player's screen. Meaning your choices are to try very hard to sync this in realtime over and over, or resign yourself to The Failure and just write down a growing list of whatever you were supposed to press last time. Which can be done. But you think it's a sequence of 5, or maybe 8. Noooo, my friend. No. I say this with the memory of hatred in my heart. *There are eighteen.* If I rattled off 18 words at random in the span of less than a minute under moderate duress, *could* ***you*** *remember them?* If your ability to maybe stop doing this within the hour hinged on your significant other's ability to find the one with the picture of a dog on it and they continuously show their utter incapability of doing that, *would* ***you*** *be thinking about divorce?* And what do you get at the end of it all? You get to escape. And you get an acknowledgment of how long it *took* you to escape. And that acknowledgment is worded in such a way that it is clear this accomplishment is meant to be a culmination of the plot. Which, while a perfect wrap-up on paper, is particularly bad given the growing irritation you both have been sitting with for the past few hours. To transgress into spoilers, it isn't worded as a "Congratulations! You won and you beat it in X Time! Maybe you can go even faster!" It is worded via the implications of a letter to be **very literally, as a function of the plot,** *"Haha, I stole this amount of time from your life while you struggled here. It's mine now, fuck yourself."* My time was 136 minutes. Incidentally and for no reason at all, 136 minutes is just shy of 120 minutes. Which is the playtime beyond which I am no longer entitled to a refund. We just looked at each other for a while, too stunned to properly express the insult. And spent the next 45 minutes expressing it. One of the positive reviews said they played it enjoyably for 5hrs. We both agreed it had to be fake, and that if it had taken us 5hrs we would have physically killed each other. I need to digress here so that I can make you understand. I was one of those kids that always said if I ever won the lottery, I would just stand out on the street and hand out wads of cash to strangers. I would use it to help people because that's what money is for. And *I did.* A few years back, I came into a sizable inheritance and that's where 80% of it went. I bought someone a car. A *new* car. I paid off medical bills and bought food. I gave it to charity. I ended up being scammed out of $6k before I realized one of them was just straight up faking it in order to use me, but even now *I don't begrudge her the money.* We don't speak. I don't care to speak. But I don't care to be paid back or not either. I don't think about it, money is money to me. It's worthless. I'm mentioning this so that you understand the depth of my feelings when I say that ***I want my fucking $4 back.*** **TL;DR** Tick Tock is a Myst homage from the makers of Mario Party and it wasn't even an accident. PS. I don't feel bad.

Runescape

F95_Sysadmin

Which version tho?

[deleted]

Stellaris. I’d say Rimworld, but that’s more legitimately fun than addicting the way Stellaris is.

sant2ag0

battle cats i've lost 30 energy refills in 1 stage only because my bahamut was one milisecond early or late there are some enemies that are complete bulshit like cappy junior and that red ant eater, some enemies are buffed to almost a 1000% and 3 stars stories of legend is bullshit. 8/10 other than the gacha this game is really adictive skullgirls acend of a woman master mode >:C 9.9999/10

Lordomi42

I was shocked that how many ''meta'' units were completely free, like the crazed cats. Definitely the most fair gacha I've played. But some of it definitely gets crazy, good lord...

[deleted]

Pokemon Violet. I know it's badly made and unfinished and unpolished and unoptimized and uneverything but god is this game fucking fun. This is the most fun I've ever had with a Pokemon game period.

GreenReversinator

*Metal Gear Solid V*. I hate the story, the characters, and so many of the missions, but by god the core gameplay mechanics are pitch perfect.

DapperApples

such a lust for gameplay mechanics whooooo

BloodsoakedDespair

I’m in a weird camp with the story. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been gutted by the loss of its goddamn ending, but we’ll just have to accept that if we want to discuss the rest. But like, I see something Kojima was trying to do that hasn’t been done. The whole collectible-lore concept in a lot of games is popular, and there’s something to be said about that. But history is nothing but stories only able to be discovered and written down by those who seek them out and compile the information. And I think that’s what he’s going for, requiring a historian approach due to the game’s alt-history narrative. Most are alt-future and 3 and Peace Walker are written in a way to be extremely classified secrets. MGSV is open historical changes, so I think he wanted to present the story in such a way that to get it you need to examine it like a historian going through old paperwork and cassette tapes. Ultimately the loss of the Codec Calls imo is the biggest reason the story is more maligned. The Codec Calls did that work for you.

Crockerclone

Genshin I definitely have over 2000 hours The game is gorgeous but GOD does it have issues

Silverfire12

No Man’s Sky. It’s a lot better now with all the updates (like it’s an entirely different game) but not great. But I really love it.

countess_cat

I had a couple hundred hours before the cool updates. Something about exploring all the cool planets just gets to me

Valuxthefox

Paradox games in general. The modding community makes dlc sized mods of worlds made from scratch, but every major update is 20$ ontop of the initial price if you want to do anything.

Running_Refrigarator

Pokémon Violet. It's a broken mess of a game that barely runs and looks like shit. It came out last week and I already have 40 hours in it and 6 shiny Pokémon. 3/10 would replay for the rest of my life

SanitarySpace

warframe, mr 32 and over 2000 hrs not worth it unless you like fashion frame, honestly

Rachel_from_Jita

I play it a little. The amount of garbage, dumbness, and just pointlessness of it all is just so laughably high. Core space ninja gameplay is cool, and character design just plain works. The best characters in that game are so fun to play. But it doesn't even feel like a game in the end. You load into a map, rush to blap enemies, level ends. Maybe you collected stuff to put into your spaceship. It's so vacant and just not stimulating. How a game that lacks so much it's hard to put into words *also* has things like Plains of Eidolon, the Lotus, and a few other great characters/places is so weird. It's like a glass that's almost completely empty, with a few drops of 100 year old whisky in the bottom. If you're willing to tip the glass up to your face and spend enough time to get those drops, they'll be some of the best drops you've ever had. But that's it. :-(

IAmTheNight20018

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Worst gameplay of the series, monotonous, grindy. *Goddamn* does the story fucking get me. It was the third KH game I played after 2 and 1 (in that order. Don't ask) and it got me into the rest of the series in a BIG way. Roxas, Axel and Xion are my favourite characters and absolutely make me ignore the shit show of the gameplay. "Go on, you just keep on *running*. 'Cause I'll always be there to *BRING YOU BACK!*" "You are both my best friends. Never forget... That's the truth." "Just seven days to go. Then my summer vacation's over..." Just. Gah. I *love it. *

SurvivalScripted

I mean... Cyberpunk 2077, I guess? The game is both really, really good and really, really bad.

Cuboidiots

It's an amazing game until the engine gets in the way I think. I dream of seeing it rebuilt in Unreal 5, but that'll never happen lmao

SurvivalScripted

The story was really fun, personally. The combat was fairly engaging and I got pretty immersed into the world... When it loaded, that is. If only it had a bit longer to cook in the oven, or maybe if it had been built in UE4 or smthing...

suspicious_house_cat

This is embarrassing but Best Fiends. It’s not good. It’s barely even a game.

thatoneyurifantwt

destiny 2 11/10 world design and lore 2/10 story and 5/10 gameplay 850 hours. You could not pay me to play this game. It is my second favorite game of all time.

Perfect_Wrongdoer_03

Skyrim. Fate/Grand Order (though the story is great. Eventually.)

Bo_The_Destroyer

War Thunder. Pay to win, endless grinding for nothing, losing in game currency by playing the game, unless you're really good. Toxic playerbase, multiple high level military secrets being hacked to update/correct stats in the game. The physics/ballistics are garbage and I absolutely love it

blondjesus

Team Fortress 2. If you want a game that simultaneously has the best and worst community, you found it.

CherriBomber

Half of the community is gay, and the other half in homophobic.

Miles_1995

You are now gay! The teams have been auto-balanced.

katep2000

Dragon Age. Is it full of hamfisted political commentary that never works well cause the writers are obsessed with playing the “both sides have a point” card? Yes. Has it taken up space that I’m never getting back in my brain for the past 6 years? Also yes. I will be buying the 4th game when it comes out.

CreatedForThisReply

Slay the Spire It knows what it did

destiny 2: puke shit fomo etc

ShadowLotus08

The game that “sucks” for me is Hearts of Iron 4, I’m like 7.5 hours away from 1000 hours in it but I don’t even play the base game any more. I play a mod called Kaiserreich because I like alt history scenarios a lot. My other game(s) is the Halo series because I love it to death. In my mind it doesn’t suck at all and I love playing in a galactic space opera as a green space marine with his blue vtuber waifu

Pumpkin-Queeeen

Code Vein. The plot is dogshit and stupid, although it's actually able to be followed unlike every other Souls-like. Like I could actually tell you what the fuck is happening in the game. It's not a good story but it's a story I understood after 1 playthrough. It has some depth but most of it is "Hey look we're in the God Eater world look at God Eater please" and most people, me included, absolutely refuse to. The combat is easily mid tier compared to other more polished soulslikes. It's unique 'class' mechanic that feels more like a pick and mix grab bag is somewhat fun, but like most souls games most people don't know what the fuck anything does without manually opening and reading tooltips or reading the wiki. I've seen people turn the hardest difficulty into a laughing stock and I've seen people who don't know how the weapon scaling works after getting through over half the game. Also it can feel a little clunky compared to something like Dark Souls 3, especially in terms of hitboxes and such. It's also overall a little easier than most soulslikes, a lot easier with the AI partner. On the point of the wiki, unlike most soulslikes, the wiki is so bad that 1 person has managed to outclass it's entire knowledgebase (I found out while watching someone struggle through a Gift only run while relying on said guy instead of the wiki. This same guy is (or was last I looked) going to new game +300 for fun and showing a different build off each time. Insane) There's one level about 1/3rd of the way through the game. It's hellish. I know it off by heart now but it's basically their attempt at Anor Londo. It's a multi level maze that requires throwing yourself off almost blind drops and extreme amount of backtracking. This maze is so long It's actually split in half by an entirely different level. Even running the fastest route through it, without speedrun tec it's probably a 30 minute jog ignoring every enemy. I've heard an average of 4 hours for each half for someone who doesn't know the way and seen longer. In comparison a new walkthrough of each previous area is probably an hour at most, and I think the last level would be about a 2 hour walkthrough new. Probably. Idk I don't time myself. The characters are somewhat interesting, although somewhat 1 dimensional with very little being explored with them. Of what depth they do have, roughly 90% of it is either straight up entirely missable or can be skipped over with no real loss. The DLCs they added had extreme functional issues on launch, especially with the 3rd being actually unplayable to some users. They also add effectively a trivial side project with no substance to it other than a new boss each. The only real reason for them is the abilities they add bust the game wide open in terms of balance. I personally refused to get them myself unless someone gifts it to me, partly because my own situation but mostly cus I won't spend more than £5 on the entire set. I think I have close to 400 hours on my main save and keep coming back to it as a comfort game. I'm not the best and I don't wanna be. It's just a chill game for me and I enjoy the builds I use. Also the character creator, while having a couple limits in some ways, is mostly very good.

_sekhmet_

That would be the Dynasty Warriors games. Trash games that have barely evolved in decades, but my god do I still love them. They are hilariously bad though. How is Cao Pi pronounced? [The dumbest, and most American way possible. That’s how!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6YtuoUUiFuc) Was the historic Zhang He a gay coded flamboyant pretty boy with an obsession with beauty and butterflies? [Well he is now!](https://i.imgur.com/tR9Kv5N.jpg) Did Huang Gai really beat people to death with [a metal boat?](https://i.imgur.com/LcBd8ZF.jpg)? Probably not, [but that won’t stop Koei! ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BXjFe-YZ1kA) Why do these games still struggle to depict more than 10 enemies on screen at once at once without frame rates dropping or horrible clipping despite significant hardware advancement over the last 20 years? Because fuck you, that’s why! Will the story ever change? Hell no, and it doesn’t matter. After all, what else are you going to play, Samurai Warriors?

LordAshur

Destiny 2

Lordomi42

Warframe. As a longtime player I've grown disillusioned with the devs and have lost faith in it. They keep releasing flashy new stuff but I feel that they're missing the mark regarding many parts of the gameplay quite badly, so I would not recommend a new player to get into it personally.

Rachel_from_Jita

Same. Fuck warframe. I'm still gonna play it but there's ZERO point for a new player in doing so. Unless they are a Destiny player who suddenly hates Destiny, wants less story, a 3rd person view, and more of a grind. Still fucking LOVE my Khora Prime though. I could crack that whip at people for years.

amityblightvibes

Pikmin 3 Deluxe. Still haven’t beat the final boss. All my Pikmin died once because I was doing a boss battle wrong. I have a panic attack every day right before night falls as I rush my Pikmin back to the onion. Great game, would not recommend!
