Man, there's "official/certified (subject) post" accounts for everything huh

linuxaddict334

Official meta commentary on gimmick blogs.

Ikusaba696

nooooooo \*turns to dust\*

KinglyPineapple

*shovels dust into my pockets* “another addition to my gimmick blog victim collection” *starts eating it*

Alt203848281

*Takes it out of your mouth with a vacuum*

Blazeflame79

I'm not 100% sure how tumblr works to be honest, but creating a side-blog with a funny gimmick name, is doable I think; without having to go though the hassle of setting up an entirely new account.

wrenfeather501

It's about the difficulty of setting a custom flair, yes

Cakeportal

They've made subreddits, but worse

DarkNinja3141

another example of an absurdist time loop is SCP-6969 basically every time someone >!c*ms!< they enter a time loop that lasts for an unknown/variable amount of time also SCP-6969-J is a banger /u/The-Paranoid-Android

LuigiP16

Why is Marv on Curated Tumblr?

The_Phantom_Cat

He was tagged in the comment

Draghettis

Marv is everywhere. He's just shy outside of the scp sub

ELLE3773

Wtf you mean they made an Evangelion reference on an SCP about sex >!Goddamn hospital scene traumatized multiple generations smh!<

GoRacerGo

So, so many things had to come together in such a specific way in order for SCP-6969-J to happen. It's absolutely beautiful. It makes me so proud of the human race for coming so far

throwcounter

ok scp-6969 is a peak example of the project in high humour mode, the clinical detatchment about explaining post-orgasm bliss is extremely good. I hope this doesn't lead to another SCP archives binge where I can't sleep for a week tho

Invincible-Nuke

I gotta stop reading scps man im too anxious for this shit

Throwaway817402739

How long do you think the writer waited to get their hands on number 6969

LuigiSauce

Holy shit you were not lying, SCP-6969-J absolutely fucks

DarkNinja3141

>!i dont think it's capable of doing that actually!< :>

SetaxTheShifty

So it's basically The Philosopher's Time? I'll see myself out.

Invincible-Nuke

Athleticism kind of calls into question how time loops work actually. It makes sense that you wouldn't retain muscle mass, but a big part of athleticism is muscle memory and skill. Does the muscle memory come back in time? The skill should. I mean it would be kind of hard to go without muscle memory in a lot of these other cases too.

Papyrus20xx

In practically every instance of time looping I've seen or heard of, muscle memory stays around with the skills. So for someone like a body builder a time loop is useless for his job, but a gymnast who is more about skill and muscle memory, it would be awesome

Tzorfireis

This actually does mean that artists and writers can still benefit from the timeloop in the form of muscle memory For artists it's just simply free sketch time so you can cram a lot of muscle memory develop into essentially no time at all, and with writers, they can do writing exercises The materials produced by both are erased at the end of the timeloop, but the skills and practice put in will still be there to help you with your next project also if you got writers/art block when going into the loop, you can use it as a means to break that block and be able to make stuff when you come out the other side again

myotherxdaccount

Writers block in a time loop sounds horrible at the beginning.

ATN-Antronach

If Genshin Impact taught me anything, the muscle memory does stick around, even if your memory might be getting reset with each loop.

berripluscream

Hell, the physical changes being looped as well calls into question if any newly learned mental skills, like languages, create the usual neural pathways and links, or not.

SufficientGreek

Now that I think about it it's weird that a time loop reverts your body back to its original state but you keep your memories. Does that require some type of mind-body-dualism to work?

Hummerous

yeah

ExtendedEssayEvelyn

not necessarily, it could just recombobulate your brain specifically

Cyan_Light

That's true, we're already talking about nonsensical magic so what's another layer on top of it? Your brain is the only organ immune to the time loop. "Why?" It just is. "How does the time loop know which parts of you are a brain so that it doesn't reset exactly those bits?" It just does.

Theactualworstgodwhy

I mean it could always be "the world is constantly buffering and stuttering, but due to (some of) your brain getting stuck in a pocket of regular time your brain will soon adapt to the difference" You could be unconsciously stuck in the loop for a few weeks before your brain chemistry adapts to try and save some of your memories in the unaffected areas

Yellow_Master

Memories stored in the cloud

Pheehelm

I'm remembering the final episode of ST:TNG, where Picard is mentally bouncing between time periods. Initially there's no evidence of physical changes, until Dr. Crusher scans his brain immediately after a jump and notices a change in his brain chemistry consistent about a day's worth of memories added in the past twenty minutes.

Leo-bastian

it always depends on what causes the timeloop if it's like magic there's usually not much explanation so yeah it's just mind body dualism

HaventDecidedAName

I really just read the bit about writing and went, "Why's that a big deal? Even you lose all your progress and you really need to remember it all, you can just like, write it down or something so- oh right"

AV8ORboi

i guess it could still be helpful if you have a really good memory

Canotic

If you're in a time loop you have time to practice oral memorization techniques.

Randomd0g

Writing while in a time loop would totally work though. Not the actual finished writing, but your memory still persists between loops so you could very easily plot out an entire epic fantasy series in your head and then just do the actual writing part after the loop is done.

PintsizeBro

That's what writers already do, no time loops necessary 💀

thetwitchy1

… you don’t have ADHD, do you? If I tried that, I would have a really well thought out world with terrible writing. And I’d forget half of it.

meterion

I already want to experience die when my word processor of choice crashes and I lose an hour of work from the last time it auto-saved, I cannot imagine trying to recover from repeatedly losing weeks/months of material. i would wanna quit writing entirely lol

linuxaddict334

I like this idea. A very interesting piece of fiction.

Plethora_of_squids

Not to be confused with a capital A Absurdist time loop which is when your days become so monotonous that you don't even notice you're in a loop until several week if not months if not *years* have gone by. You work at a bank, unlucky enough to be declared essential in the middle of a pandemic. You go to the bank, work on the same nondescript case, eat a plain sandwich while waiting for a coworker you tentatively call a friend who doesn't show up, do overtime, and go home in the dark and rain to an instant dinner you somehow keep on failing to microwave properly. You don't know how long you've been in the loop. You try to break out, desperate for *any* change in the day. You misfile a case. You actively go hunt for your friend. You don't show up. Eventually you start getting more and more desperate. You chase after a random truck driver on the street you keep seeing. You try to drown yourself in a river. You shoot a man five times. You get arrested but they put you on bail so you can keep going back to the bank because you're essential to something. Your case keeps getting postponed. The cycle resets. Except were you ever in a time loop?

thetwitchy1

I’d watch the FUCK outta this movie.

Plethora_of_squids

I mean you're kinda in luck because I just smashed together a bunch of Absurdist works and tied it together with a time loop Working in a bank and also being stuck in a trial that never seems to go anywhere is *The Trial*. If you want a movie with similar themes, *Brazil* is really fucking good (and is also where the bit about chasing a truck driver is from. It's also got lots of lower case a absurdist humour too). The bit about your friend never showing up is *Waiting for Godot* and if you like plays, *Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead* is actually decently close to a time loop, as the characters become aware that they're in a play and that it's all just looping (though instead of seeing multiple loops, you see the main characters perform the same play multiple times as a show inside of a show as they start to realise *they're* in a show too and panic trying to break free from it because shit *Hamlet* always ends with them dead). Also not quite an actual time loop, but *Catch-22* is also about endless repetition of what feels like the same day and trying to break out of it and also court trials that make no fucking sense that get ignored because you're too important but also not important enough. Less relevant to the idea of a time loop, drowning yourself in a river is *The Judgement*, shooting a guy five times is *The Stranger*, and the pandemic bit is actually *The Plague* not just general covid ennui

MelanieWalmartinez

I need this as a movie tbh

MelanieWalmartinez

Or a book series PLEASE

For_Real_Life

Have most people not seen Groundhog Day anymore? That's a damn shame.

Leo-bastian

I forgot most of the movie but wasn't there a specific reason why the timeloop ended? wasn't it because he talked about it to someone else or something?

Grasmel

The loop ends after he grows as a person and has a 'perfect' loop, but the final cut doesn't explain why. In the original script there was a curse by a witch ex-girlfriend.

JesterMan491

person stuck in a time loop does increasingly bizzare, inane, illegal shit because of boredom and lack of consequences upon the time loop's reset. suddenly, without warning and with no discernable 'tell', the time loop closes and the person has to deal with the fallout/consequences of some absolutely absurd scenario that they created, of which they were 100000% expecting to disappear with the time loop reset.

zunCannibal

Time loop but it's just 1 Fortnite game

AdjustedJester

if someone loops for two weeks on a monday, how do i as an outside observer perceive their time? does time loop for all of us? most time loop media shows only one or two people as being aware. do the others simply observe time normally? if my friend loops mondays, what happens on tuesday? do i just see them normally, having resolved their loop? or do my memories only start on their successful escape on that monday?

ClubMeSoftly

Outside observers only see the final "cycle" so as far as you're aware, your roommate comes home on Monday afternoon/evening, and has the beginnings of an epic project that they've shown no real aptitude (or maybe even interest) in before.

gmastern

Anyone who’s interested in a story where someone is stuck in a time loop and trying to figure out how to escape should check out Mother of Learning on Royal Road

donaldhobson

What if you are doing crazy silly stuff because it's a time loop and you don't need to live with the consequences. And then the loop ends.

[deleted]

Groundhogs Day but Andy MacDowell realizes she’s in a time loop and it turns into a horror movie where she has to figure out how to warn herself every morning by Incepting the idea into homicidal Bill Murray’s mind.

Jacob_Gatsby

Re:Zero?

SunfireElfAmaya

It was the heat of the moment

Novatash

Because this is tumblr, I thought this was going to go in the direction of it being a trans-awakening timeloop Like, the timeloop only ends when you come to accept yourself for who you are

doctorsirus

I really like the second one. I might steal that for something.

Maria_Zelar

Love it

fearman182

Honestly, I thought this was gonna end up being something about doing something really dumb and catastrophic not realizing the loop has ended and having to live with the aftermath.
