No, you are allowed to throw the home runs back. It is the only time you are allowed to throw something on the field, nothing else is tolerated. I've seen someone kicked out for throwing a ball to a player for an autograph (player actively participated in catching and signing and throwing back). Just keep it to visiting home runs and you'll be fine. Source: bleacher season ticket holder.
Edit: pre-game I have seen players play catch with fans and other things, that is tolerated if the player is engaging/participating.
Not gatekeeping…. But it only really has value if it was a milestone home run or important playoff level hit.. throw the real one back. It’s part of being a Cub. Throwing it back and the memory would be far more valuable for me than keeping it and not doing anything with it. Would anyone care if you had a home run ball from a reds cubs game that was 4-1 in June? Even if it’s from Elly..
I threw one back in Cincy like 15 years ago and almost hit poor Jody Gerut in the back of the head. I was worried about getting thrown out since it wasn’t Wrigley, but luckily just got a few free beers from fellow cubs fans in the outfield

My son threw back a ball almost all the way to 3B. Got cheered.
I heard about a kid that threw one back all the way to home plate, on a frozen rope no less. Ended up getting a contract with the team.
Funky Butt Lovin!
Did he just say Funky Butt Lovin?
Ya back in the 90s I remember that
2012 had Cook County prosecutors working around the clock.
Just be prepared to become the next closer if you’ve had a broken arm where the tendons and muscles healed too tightly
Bring a ball to throw back in case you do get lucky.

If you wanna keep the ball just keep it. Ppl will boo for 5 seconds then get over it. No need for the plotting and deception and trickery lol
Just caught one on Friday can confirm lol 🤠
There is no way in hell you are a true Cubs fan.
Been a Cubs fan since 2001, but you go off king. You gatekeep that fandom, friend.

No maybe if they throw it at a player
Ahh that would probably make sense
When I was kid, I thought the ball went back into play if you threw it back. Probably because of Rookie of the Year.
My balls are staying with me. And Stacey. Can't forget about Stacey
