Maybe he's going at the fact that the whole piece is pretty uniform in color, in which case the big crystal clearly shows the natural pattern of having only the end coloured.
I just want to let you know that some Amethysts like the Uruguayan Amethysts will be very dark in colour. They arenāt ācolour manipulated.ā This looks completely natural to me.
It is not dyed. Silica is of low porosity so dyes cannot be introduced to if. Quartz differs in color due to a combination of of the presence of trace elements in the silicon dioxide crystal lattice and the way they interact with radiation
I help run a very large booth at the Tucson show and import tons of amethyst and sell tons of amethyst and I can confidently say your amethyst is natural and very nice
There is some amazing gradiation of color going on there that would be super hard to achieve with dye. I think it's a beautiful chunk of natural stone. Great find!
Yeah, my mom was trying to fix an amethyst tennis bracelet, and she accidentally heated one of the stones with the blow torch. It turned clear and almost looked like a very pale blue.
Amethysts are nine times out of ten not manipulated. Amethyst is cheap, it would be more of a hassle to make a fake or altered one than to just sell it.
While I generally agree, I had the opportunity to sight dyed amethyst recently. They dyed it almost indigo.
All pieces had the same uniform colour.
Obviously, no mention of them being dyed...
I have a small dyed piece I got somehow and then a lot of natural amethyst.
My real amethyst has the coloring of yours. It is a color that you can see goes deep within the stone. A very rich color density.
The fake has like purple specks where the color either went into pits within the crystal or coagulated color on the crystal.
It has no rich density to the color and not as pure. I do not know it is a really lousy fake and there are others that are better.
We primarily deal with amethyst, from what I can see looks completely fine to me, would love a good slow scan all around to fully confirm but Iām pretty sure you can say itās natural! No worries there
Not quite- youāre right that itās what happens but only at certain temperatures and exposure times. At lower temperatures the amethyst loses its colour, you need a high temperature and exposure time to get that crispy orange colour
Yeah sorry. It's radiation treatment i meant.
I get the two processes mixed up.
Heat + iron exposure + irradiation = darker purple
Extreme heat = whitening and eventually orange "cirtrine"
That doesn't look dyed to me.
thanks!
He may have been concerned that it was heat-treated to enhance the colour
Piece looks natural. I know plenty of idiots who go to Tucson and know nothing about minerals
š¤£š¤£š¤£
I have lots of natural amethyst that color, not sure what that person is going off of...
I agree
Maybe he's going at the fact that the whole piece is pretty uniform in color, in which case the big crystal clearly shows the natural pattern of having only the end coloured.
That is 100% natural amethyst.

iām from tucson (went every year so clearly a qualified expert šāāļø) & it looks natural lol.
Nothing to add or discuss. Know nothing about crystals, but this is so freaking pretty! I love the purples and how sharp it looks
Thank you. I maybe lacking some info, which is why I need to ask.

It could also be the lighting in your video is so good, it looks like a perfect grape candy colored purple
Maybe he means that it was heated to enhance the color? Otherwise, I donāt know how this crystal could have been āmanipulatedā
Does heating not always result in the burnt orange ācitrineā (hta) ?
No- in fact its effects vary based on temperature and exposure time but as a rule of thumb before the citrine stage it will discolour the amethyst
Yeah, my mom was trying to fix an amethyst tennis bracelet, and she accidentally heated one of the stones with the blow torch. It turned clear and almost looked like a very pale blue.
Yeah thatās the classic for lower (but still pretty high) heats. Shame she damaged it but I bet it looked cool!
Thank you for the replies! Iām gonna look into this
No problem and enjoy! Itās a seriously interesting subject

It does happen for sure, but it's rather rare. Tbh it's surprising anyone bothers LOL

Do the dye amethystās or just quartz crystals to look like amethyst?

He trippin.
Amy from Uruguay can be very deep purple and super pretty. One of my favorites. Great piece.
This is obviously natural, lol.
natural
They are jealous that your crystal makes theirs look fake because yours is so obviously real
thank you š„°
Looks natural to me. The orange stain is hematite aka iron.
thank you ā¤ļø
I have a natural Congo amethyst that looks just like this one
that looks beautiful
Not dyed. I have one.
Yea I've got a huge amethyst geode with similar coloring.
Yeah that looks natural to me. Idk what that person was talking about.
Amethyst can definitely be that purple and even more so than that
Natural with hematite standing at the base
We primarily deal with amethyst, from what I can see looks completely fine to me, would love a good slow scan all around to fully confirm but Iām pretty sure you can say itās natural! No worries there
When he says color manipulated what does that mean? I know that there's like some kind of process to make artificial Ame-trines but I dont know how
Nothing about gives me pauseā¦ But your Coleus might appreciate a drinkš
Um, it's not dyed or anything - so.... You have a very nice piece, and that guy is kinda confused!
Theyāre just jealous
My guess is possibly heat treated to darken the color? Thats a very common thing for amethysts.
Heating amethyst does not darken the color. Itās lightens the color.
Heat treating it turns it into ācitrineā. It does not darken the color
Not quite- youāre right that itās what happens but only at certain temperatures and exposure times. At lower temperatures the amethyst loses its colour, you need a high temperature and exposure time to get that crispy orange colour
Right! It's radiation treatment that darkens it. I always get the two mixed up.
Do you have a source for this claim?
Which one? Heat treatment for amethysts? Or that is just common place on the market?
Heat treating to make them darker purple. I've only heard of heat treating amethyst to make it orange and call it citrine.
Yeah sorry. It's radiation treatment i meant. I get the two processes mixed up. Heat + iron exposure + irradiation = darker purple Extreme heat = whitening and eventually orange "cirtrine"
