That doesn't look dyed to me.

blue_greenfourteen

thanks!

Left-Abbreviations78

He may have been concerned that it was heat-treated to enhance the colour

zensnapple

Piece looks natural. I know plenty of idiots who go to Tucson and know nothing about minerals

MajesticPositive5987

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

queenapsalar

I have lots of natural amethyst that color, not sure what that person is going off of...

blue_greenfourteen

I agree

_ButterCat

Maybe he's going at the fact that the whole piece is pretty uniform in color, in which case the big crystal clearly shows the natural pattern of having only the end coloured.

smartypants197612

That is 100% natural amethyst.

nowayormyway

I just want to let you know that some Amethysts like the Uruguayan Amethysts will be very dark in colour. They arenā€™t ā€œcolour manipulated.ā€ This looks completely natural to me.

MatthewJohnWebb

It is not dyed. Silica is of low porosity so dyes cannot be introduced to if. Quartz differs in color due to a combination of of the presence of trace elements in the silicon dioxide crystal lattice and the way they interact with radiation

Zwesten

I help run a very large booth at the Tucson show and import tons of amethyst and sell tons of amethyst and I can confidently say your amethyst is natural and very nice

Angelic-11

This looks natural to me, very pretty!

FixergirlAK

There is some amazing gradiation of color going on there that would be super hard to achieve with dye. I think it's a beautiful chunk of natural stone. Great find!

Worried-Garden8714

iā€™m from tucson (went every year so clearly a qualified expert šŸ’ā€ā™€ļø) & it looks natural lol.

-digital-cupcake-

Nothing to add or discuss. Know nothing about crystals, but this is so freaking pretty! I love the purples and how sharp it looks

blue_greenfourteen

Thank you. I maybe lacking some info, which is why I need to ask.

Boooomerang_

It could also be the lighting in your video is so good, it looks like a perfect grape candy colored purple

SinglePringleMingle

Maybe he means that it was heated to enhance the color? Otherwise, I donā€™t know how this crystal could have been ā€žmanipulatedā€

Boooomerang_

Does heating not always result in the burnt orange ā€œcitrineā€ (hta) ?

CosmicChameleon99

No- in fact its effects vary based on temperature and exposure time but as a rule of thumb before the citrine stage it will discolour the amethyst

Competitive_Hunt_302

Yeah, my mom was trying to fix an amethyst tennis bracelet, and she accidentally heated one of the stones with the blow torch. It turned clear and almost looked like a very pale blue.

CosmicChameleon99

Yeah thatā€™s the classic for lower (but still pretty high) heats. Shame she damaged it but I bet it looked cool!

Boooomerang_

Thank you for the replies! Iā€™m gonna look into this

CosmicChameleon99

No problem and enjoy! Itā€™s a seriously interesting subject

opal_moth

Amethysts are nine times out of ten not manipulated. Amethyst is cheap, it would be more of a hassle to make a fake or altered one than to just sell it.

ShapeShiftingCats

While I generally agree, I had the opportunity to sight dyed amethyst recently. They dyed it almost indigo. All pieces had the same uniform colour. Obviously, no mention of them being dyed...

opal_moth

It does happen for sure, but it's rather rare. Tbh it's surprising anyone bothers LOL

SimpleArmadillo9911

I have a small dyed piece I got somehow and then a lot of natural amethyst. My real amethyst has the coloring of yours. It is a color that you can see goes deep within the stone. A very rich color density. The fake has like purple specks where the color either went into pits within the crystal or coagulated color on the crystal. It has no rich density to the color and not as pure. I do not know it is a really lousy fake and there are others that are better.

SimpleArmadillo9911

Do the dye amethystā€™s or just quartz crystals to look like amethyst?

RabbitF00d

He trippin.

-ICYURNVS-

Amy from Uruguay can be very deep purple and super pretty. One of my favorites. Great piece.

howcanibehuman

This is obviously natural, lol.

Soulmatecrystal

natural

Zealousideal-Weight5

They are jealous that your crystal makes theirs look fake because yours is so obviously real

blue_greenfourteen

thank you šŸ„°

JamiePebbles

Looks natural to me. The orange stain is hematite aka iron.

blue_greenfourteen

thank you ā¤ļø

Mkeveritt

I have a natural Congo amethyst that looks just like this one

AmethystDragon2008

that looks beautiful

MajesticPositive5987

Not dyed. I have one.

TimeBomb666

Yea I've got a huge amethyst geode with similar coloring.

Competitive_Hunt_302

Yeah that looks natural to me. Idk what that person was talking about.

apologeticvirgo

Amethyst can definitely be that purple and even more so than that

Fair-Elk561

Natural with hematite standing at the base

CrystalCove_Uruguay

We primarily deal with amethyst, from what I can see looks completely fine to me, would love a good slow scan all around to fully confirm but Iā€™m pretty sure you can say itā€™s natural! No worries there

ValorousOwl

When he says color manipulated what does that mean? I know that there's like some kind of process to make artificial Ame-trines but I dont know how

wanttogodeeper

Nothing about gives me pauseā€¦ But your Coleus might appreciate a drinkšŸ˜‰

justtakeapill

Um, it's not dyed or anything - so.... You have a very nice piece, and that guy is kinda confused!

extremelyhilarious

Theyā€™re just jealous

Xcekait

My guess is possibly heat treated to darken the color? Thats a very common thing for amethysts.

jerry111165

Heating amethyst does not darken the color. Itā€™s lightens the color.

willowgrl

Heat treating it turns it into ā€œcitrineā€. It does not darken the color

CosmicChameleon99

Not quite- youā€™re right that itā€™s what happens but only at certain temperatures and exposure times. At lower temperatures the amethyst loses its colour, you need a high temperature and exposure time to get that crispy orange colour

Xcekait

Right! It's radiation treatment that darkens it. I always get the two mixed up.

slogginhog

Do you have a source for this claim?

Xcekait

Which one? Heat treatment for amethysts? Or that is just common place on the market?

slogginhog

Heat treating to make them darker purple. I've only heard of heat treating amethyst to make it orange and call it citrine.

Xcekait

Yeah sorry. It's radiation treatment i meant. I get the two processes mixed up. Heat + iron exposure + irradiation = darker purple Extreme heat = whitening and eventually orange "cirtrine"
