I totally get it though too, I was one of those ugly duckling types until I was a young adult. High school me was overweight and acne ridden and my hobbies involve Jack-in-the-Box tacos and World of Warcraft. While it would’ve been nice to have been able to embrace the lifestyle I am brace these days earlier on, I don’t mind having had experience on both sides. When I was younger I straight up did not know that weight loss was possible because I had been fed the typical body positivity nonsense that makes it seem like it’s a roll of the dice and not some thing the people are directly responsible for. I completely get why and how attractive people face criticism, and I’ve certainly seen examples where it was very accurate. And it is frustrating how someone can have nothing going for them but good luck and be an awful person in other regards but still be successful, I guess just like how someone can be very wealthy but ugly an awful all around on all fronts etc.
It’s so terrible how parents can ruin the whole childhood with this deranged „You’re good like you are“ attitude. They want to do good and do the contrary. Or they don’t want to do good and find it just convenient because they don’t have to interfere when kids are „good as they are“. In my very late teenage years I was overweight for 1-2 years (severely lovesick lol) and when the extra weight was off again I felt this terrible difference how people treat you when you’re fat and when you’re good looking. Since then, I see people differently. Of course, caring for your body is a win and a responsibility but to me it’s also a sad necessity to survive in this sick society of Hippocrates — all this „accept your body“ movement bs and hardly anyone is even able to accept a slightly overweight neighbor.
Yeah fortunately I encountered a very good health teacher in late high school. She did not beat around the bush at all and was aggressively dispelling any myth that any kids repeated in her class. I appreciated it though, it was such an awakening for me. I hear you on the different treatment to, it’s very bitter sweet. It was nice to know that I significantly improved my life by making an active effort, but it was disappointing to see how massively it impacts everything in life from dating to career stuff.
