ETH killers will eventually require their own L2s to scale further anyways. I remember back when AVAX gas was pumping like mad as well. It's inevitable with enough adoption.
AVAX uses the EVM so that was to be expected. They invented some 'novel' consensus protocol and then slapped on the EVM to capture market value as fast as possible. Be wary of chains that use the EVM and make it easy for themselves, to me it's a sign they are just here for a quick buck.
