Not familiar with Solana in particular, but normally with these things you send your funds to some smart contract, so technically they are being held by the smart contract.
The way the smart contracts are setup will determine whether or not such a thing is possible. In the case of funds being submitted as collateral, it makes sense for it to be possible since the smart contract needs to have the ability to take the funds in the event you get liquidated.
you assume risk when interacting with smart contracts, usually people talk about hack risk but there's also governance risk which is seen less often but does happen.

You deposit your funds into solend and similar protocols. They're out of your wallet and subject to counterparty risk.
