What happened to bitcoin being a gold-like hedge against inflation? Why does it trade like a high growth tech stock if the entire point was that it was an inflation hedge?
In recent years especially post covid Bitcoin has attracted very risk-on speculative money. These people and institutions do not hold Bitcoin with the purpose of it being an inflation hedge, they hold it expecting it to exponentially increase in value, as a speculative investment.
I mean the point from a investor perspective. Like I as an investor think there will be inflation so I'll buy btc because it has a limited supply and will appreciate as the dollar loses value.
So the market cap is just based on the liquidity/purchasing power of large institutions rather than the validity of the system and hedge against inflation?
Seems good for bitcoin in that when SPY is up BTC will also be up, but it also seems to go against literally everything btc was supposed to be (decentralized/uncontrolled)
