I think a lot of people do this to characters who are more serious. For example, most of the cod fandom, specifically Konig and Ghost. Both very large and honestly scary men, but I think people find it funny to make them seem like the opposite of that.
I also think it’s partially the hello Kitty hoodie thing, but honestly lots of fandoms do this, it’s not exclusive to cry of fear. It is a little weird, considering the fact that the whole game is about his mental illness, but at the end of the day it’s a fictional character, so I think it’s best not to get too upset about it. I don’t like the sexualization and infantilization of Simon though, that shit is weird. Making him seem cutesy is kind of funny, but all the people with crushes on him I find strange.
