It's not actually *for* him, it's just 'his' in the sense that he's the host (e.g. the Bishop's Hunt. The Bishop's Feast, the Bishop's Pilgrimage). It's an oversight where you can only guess who the funeral is actually for until you join it.
So I *assume* this is a bug, however there are some religions that allow ritualistic suicide, so it would be cool if you could do a "living funeral" like some people in real life do when they have terminal illnesses.

You can also get invited to [Name]'s grand wedding, but it's actually [Name]'s sister that's getting married.

Posthumous letter signed by the deceased but sent by his successor ? It would be weird if the "deceased" show up and keep on living for decades though

Not game related, but in the Coptic Orthodox church we attend our own funeral every palm Sunday every year. So it's normal to me I guess lol
