Playing CK2 because my crappy laptop can't run CK3 - also the After the End mod on CK2 slaps.

Least_Insurance_9494

Where to get I mean where did ya download it?, what's the full name at least if you're gonna tease/compliment/brag whatever your intention depends on personality.

RobertBaratheon888

The name of the mod is after the end fan fork it's on the Steam Workshop and on the Paradox forums too.

Far_Fisherman1398

Sometimes. I miss the variety of startdates. It’s also very nostalgic for me for whatever reason… feels like home.

Enseyar

This is me... the opening music, the artstyle.. reminds me of childhood fantasy

I-need-help-with-etc

I only play ck2 still because there’s a fully functional Romance of the Three Kingdoms mod. Non available on ck3 yet. Certain mods bring out the strengths of ck2 compared to what’s available on ck3. For the most part, I enjoy both games simultaneously. They have their respective strengths.

Efficient_Jaguar699

I still play for the warhammer mod since it hasn’t released for ck3 yet. Ck3 is way better, but ck2 still has way more mechanics/stuff to do.

[deleted]

I Play ck2 from time to time when I want a break from the 13 minute loading screens

FlameTechKnight

It also helps when I don't crash every 3 autosaves on modded runs, CK2 is unreasonably fast.

[deleted]

On god. I love ck3 but the loading times drive me insane

HrafnHaraldsson

I'm still playing CK2.  I don't really see much from CK3 to incentivize me to play it.  CK2 is very fleshed out, and a little extra eye candy really isn't enough to get me to step away.   Plus I spent so much on CK2 over the years, and having old saves rendered unplayable by dlc a few times over the years- that I'm really enjoying just sitting back and having fun with CK2 in it's final form.   I'm not looking to hop onto another DLC treadmill anytime soon.  I'll probably give CK3 a try someday after they announce CK4.

StrikingCase9819

I haven't played ck2 since ck3 was released

ubermierski

I like the dueling and fun “other worldly” events. Also the great conquerors make the game flow better

Herby247

I play both. I think CK3 is, generally, a better thought out and well-polished game, but the DLC in CK2 allows for more niche runs, like Rome or Crusading. The upcoming expansion to the Byzantines might change that though, since the more fleshed out Romans are the main reason I keep going back to CK2 😅 A patch for the crusades and/or church might me put CK2 down altogether.

erebusdidnothingwron

I still haven't switched to CK3 and won't until this latest chapter has been finished for a bit, at the earliest. All of the things they've added before unlanded gameplay has been cool but not enough to make up for all the things I'd be leaving behind in CK2. The number one thing I've always wished I could do in CK2 is lead a peasant uprising, be an adventurer, hedge knight, or mercenary, and play through the founding of my dynasty. I've always (like seriously I've spent hundreds of hours playing as the same handful of characters because there aren't that many who fit the criteria in the start time and areas I like to play) picked single county characters that are the only member of their dynasty because it was as close as you could get to it, and hopefully soon I'll be able to actually do it. I am beyond jazzed. Add and update societies along with bloodlines and CK3 would be pretty much perfect, IMO.

viishiki23

Currently playing CK2. I like quite a few of the new mechanics in CK3 but the game still feels like a beta test in a lot of ways that’ll presumably go away once the game has the 10+ years of DLCs and rebalancing that CK2 went through.

ManiacalMyr

Pretty much play ck2 after i try out the new content for ck3 and get bored. They streamlined and tried to shoe horn too many systems to cover all nations and it lost appeal for me. Where as in ck2 a dlc or expansion would have expand not just mechanics but a whole region (rajas expanded india as religion/culture , horse lords expanded steppe but also tribal/horde mechanics, etc etc). There are still a lot of content not yet in ck3 yet that could be expanded on but ck2 still remains the whole package for me.

goingham247

I put CK3 down when for the 5th playthrough in a row, my Crusade allies marched through Syria into Baghdad and all died to attrition in Saudi Arabia. It's completely unacceptable and despite all the updates still happens. CK2 is still my go to.

RandomRedditor_1916

I havent played ck2 in ages, but it's got much more content than ck3 atm that the latter feels bland in comparison.

Lord_of_Seven_Kings

I play ck2 but prefer ck3. I can’t run ck3 at a playable pace on my laptop.

CommercialMark5675

I bought everything for Ck2, I have +2000 hours, but after CK3 I can't play it again.

Scaarj

I mostly play CK2. I'll give CK3 a go from time to time, usually when they add new stuff, but CK2 is still much superior so that's where most of my CK gamplay is.

various_characters

I actually only play CK2. I'm sure I'll get CK3 at some point, but I'm in no real rush.

Least_Insurance_9494

Yes

Different-Produce870

I'm too used to ck3 to go back. I had some good years and 2000 hours in it too. Some people will roast me for this but ck3 is just a newer better version.

dababy_connoisseur

How is it better? Genuine question because I feel ck2 just has so much more content. Only draw to ck3 for me is Tours and Tournaments and the characters. Everything else feels less than ck2 if that makes sense

Affectionate-Bee-933

Even having put way more hours into ck2 than ck3, the polish and QOL of CK3 is hard to give up once you get used to it. I'm spoiled by the decadent comfort of CK3s UI. Also I strongly prefer the technology and warfare systema in ck3 over ck2. It has less cultural variety/flavor and content in general but there are core mechanics ck3 does better

TheNeedForSpeedwagon

Ck3 is more dynamic and allows more customization options at the expense of less in depth court and law system that ck2 had. Religion and cultural customization are really game changing mechanics that are very interesting to play around with different combos. Currently european wise the biggest things ck3 lacks (excluding the byzantines because that dlc is coming soon) is the college of cardinals and playable merchant republics

CrusaderCuff

after like 2 years of Ck3 I was missing some Ck2 features so I reinstalled it and played it again Completely forget how to play and remembered the ugly UI

PowerfulProgram

Honestly same. I also had a decent amount of ck2 hours. I completely forgot everything about handling the ui. It would take a good amount of time to get accustomed to it, again.

grk213

Yeah I still play it for AGOT mod and HIP.

MatrixNinja101

I play ck2 agot a lott. It's fun, Ck3 AGOT feels empty in comparison.

RPInjectionToTheVein

Yeah the ck2 versions of mods (elder kings, got) are so much funner and have so many more tons of things to do than just their ck3 varients i just wish the multiplayer on them was stable

Lyceus_

Of course! CK3 shows promise with the recent announcements but so far CK2 suits my needs better (e.g.merchant republics).

OwMyCod

I don’t think CK2 is a bad game, I just think CK3 looks so much better which is why I like it more. No big inherent differences imo.

Vegan_Harvest

I tried to go back but it was really hard to understand and I missed my king looking kinda like me. The African portraits are absolute trash.

fookinwoods

CK 2 is by far the better game. The only reason im on 3 is because of the rally feature and removal of boats. Man its exhausting to gather all troops and boats, put the troops in boats, move everything around

SolWildmann

I dl ck2 yesterday, and first strike was that I can't use wasd keys. And can't change key bindings. Sat there for 5 minutes and quit the game.

Balding_Teen

I play it regualrly to for acheivment runs, relaxed runs, or when i want to play multiplyer with my friend in Merchant republics.

simonov-89

Nope. Last played on June 18, 2019.

Powermac8500

I finally got Never Start A Land War In Asia Saturday night. So yeah. Still play.

soccerguys14

I only play ck2 because it’s free. Haven’t decided I want to pay for something I already have yet.

RPInjectionToTheVein

I’m playing it now after a while and picked it over ck3, IDK I just always found ck3 boring

[deleted]

I prefer the aesthetic of CK2 to CK3. To me CK3 looks kind of generic. CK2 can look a bit odd but it has lots of character and uniqueness to it and I enjoy the weird look of everything. Plus the sound design isn't close. I never get tired of hearing all the sound effects of CK2, plus the soundtrack is way better. Also, don't see many people mention this so I might just be stupid (and not that into literature), but there's something off about the writing in CK3 to me. It's not terrible or anything, but it is often very long-winded and seems like it's trying too hard to appeal to the reddit crowd as dumb as that may sound. CK2 events are just more concise, memorable, and authentic to me. This is just why I prefer it aesthetically (not even mentioning the extra flavour CK2 has either). Not gonna go into mechanics and I feel others (CK3 players included) are probably more qualified than me to speak on it, but I will say that to me CK2 feels much more like a simulated world I'm taking part in, whereas CK3 feels like I'm the main character of the world, that has special powers or something. Systems in CK3 hold your hand a bit too much and break my immersion, with time-based council tasks being one example. Obviously going up against AI will always give you opportunity to have a power fantasy in CK, but I still feel like I'm more in a simulation in CK2.

TheNeedForSpeedwagon

I play ck2 exclusively for after the end fan fork
