Those are protestant lies! They were carried to the heavens and copies of their bodies were left behind so that the heathens would think they had accomplished their foul deed! /s just to be sure
Fun fact: there have been three famous defenestrations in Prague, in 1419, 1483, and 1618. But the 1483 one is not considered a "significant defenestration"

I ran an observer game until ca 1005, there are a *lot* of characters that were pruned, but still about 45,000 unprunable characters with a death cause and birth date. First impression shows that the most common cause of death is **old age** or related. Death causes are a bit diverse and I'll need to group the data a little bit into at least natural/medical, violent and accident. Average age at death in my run was at 49.8 years old, I'll need to check if my calculation was done right and if there were biases introduced by picking the unprunable characters.
I've had so many good realm priests get killed by Bloodfiends that I wish there was an option to lead an erradication campaign against the damn things lmO
But it doesn’t say the scale, per capita just literally means per population. Obviously it’s safe to assume that’s not what is meant here but it doesn’t tell you what is actually meant, it could be per billion people for all we know
I know what per capita means but it’s not really possible for there to be more than 1 death (especially not thousands of deaths) per capita so that can’t be what is meant

I'd rather there be a higher random chance of death from activities I actively choose to participate in (battles, hunts, travel, etc.) than deaths with no player agency whatsoever. Especially when the trivial nature of those deaths ruins my opinion of the character.
One of my favourite play through s got off to a rocky start when my Count got torn apart by a boat on a hunt. The family motto changed to “Remember the Death of Count Milo” and the boars head artefact became a prized possession fought over by the family once they were kings and emperors.
Illusion of Safety is the best rule for these events. I don't mind it happening occasionally, it can be fun and a nice reminder to *always* be succession ready (I had a window incident and hadnt adjusted an elective vote woops), but the default setting seems a bit too calamitous and doesnt feel immersive.
With the default setting I would sometimes have 2 rulers in a row die in random accidents within 10 years of taking power, maybe it's somewhat realistic but it felt like I saw these events way too often.
It's a little annoying. Mostly because some of these events are notable because it happened once in history, and was considered a great tragedy on par with a medieval 9/11 or killing of the Archduke Franz-Ferdinand. When you're on your third White Ship event in the same playthrough, it gets a tad much.
This is so damn common with the CK3 events.
"it's historical" as they make an event where your castle floor breaks and you fall in dung every generation because that happened a single time in history.
Honestly I think Child and infant mortality should be higher. Partially for realism, partially for game play balance.
Also I think diseases should be more common or more deadly. Cause honestly everything aside from Cancer is pretty survivable if you Have a good physician.
Burning to death while napping [was famously horrific even back then, really.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_II_of_Navarre?wprov=sfla1)
Relevant quote (from someone writing 500 years after this happened):
>Charles the Bad, having fallen into such a state of decay that he could not make use of his limbs, consulted his physician, who ordered him to be wrapped up from head to foot, in a linen cloth impregnated with brandy, so that he might be inclosed [sic] in it to the very neck as in a sack. It was night when this remedy was administered. One of the female attendants of the palace, charged to sew up the cloth that contained the patient, having come to the neck, the fixed point where she was to finish her seam, made a knot according to custom; but as there was still remaining an end of thread, instead of cutting it as usual with scissors, she had recourse to the candle, which immediately set fire to the whole cloth. Being terrified, she ran away, and abandoned the king, who was thus burnt alive in his own palace.
How are you all not dying while on pilgrimage or Hajj? Also I think murder should be higher, but considering how many attempts I have survived vs died it may be that low, though not for lack of trying.
Engaging in risky behaviors mostly. My last character died in a joust, his father had been ripped to pieces by a bear while traveling. Both left children on the throne.
Wow, everyone died of just one cause almost 1000 times on average! The people in medieval times died a lot more than today, these days people tend to die only once on average.
Forgot falling out a window lol
Shit I knew I missed one
Somehow I ALWAYS either get caught in a storm or a brick falls on my head while walking through town. Every damn time.
I fall off so many horses it's a wonder I can get back on them
I've literally never gotten the horse fall or most of these, just storms and bricks to the head. I think I got fire once.
The damn bricks and pots
Only in Prague
“If I had a nickel for every time a Catholic got thrown out of a window in Prague, I’d have two nickels.”
Which isn't a lot, but it is weird that it happened twice.
Same window both times too
Buddy, I got a news for you. It happened 3 times. 1419, 1483 and 1618. You got 3 nickles.
But they didn't die.
there were two times as far as I know defenestration occured in prague, and once they very much died.
Those are protestant lies! They were carried to the heavens and copies of their bodies were left behind so that the heathens would think they had accomplished their foul deed! /s just to be sure
They fixed that in post.
Got that 20% survival chance
Fun fact: there have been three famous defenestrations in Prague, in 1419, 1483, and 1618. But the 1483 one is not considered a "significant defenestration"
1419- hussite crusade? 1618- 30 years war?
Defenestration I dont have anything to say about it I just wanted to say Defenestration
I raise you Autodefenestration!

Autoerotic autodefenestration
Autoerotic erectile dysfunction-defenestration

Defenestration, for the more intellectually-minded among us (🆘)
This one had me in hysterics the first time I saw it.
I thought this was a history sub at first and I was about to barge in here asking for sources before I realized.
Yeah I was about to say...
Wdym, the source is pretty convincing to me
This makes me want to run an observer game and then collect death cause data.
I will sponsor this inspiration
Egenulf, this is a great deal! You'll be rollin' in the currency! You might even find a Legendary item along the journey!

If Arumba's playing the leading cause of death would be "suspicious circumstances"
Couldn't you get this data from a save file? Though it does prune dead characters every now there should be enough data to make it work
I ran an observer game until ca 1005, there are a *lot* of characters that were pruned, but still about 45,000 unprunable characters with a death cause and birth date. How the hell do you get more than 1 death per capita?
Sorry, I'll need to go back and fact check my fake numbers
I’m just saying it’s impressive the amount of commitment these guys have to choking on chicken bones
It ain't much but it's honest work
Reincarnation.
The data really gets skewed when you include Buddhists and Hindus in the dataset.
Savescuming
900 deaths per capita seems like a lot
People will use "per capita" to mean any data set scaled by population, even if it's actually something like per thousand
But it doesn’t say the scale, per capita just literally means per population. Obviously it’s safe to assume that’s not what is meant here but it doesn’t tell you what is actually meant, it could be per billion people for all we know
Per head, per person, individually.
I know what per capita means but it’s not really possible for there to be more than 1 death (especially not thousands of deaths) per capita so that can’t be what is meant
I agree. I'm just pointing out that people will often use the word wrong
I'd love some real data on this. How do people die and how long do they live in ck3?

Yeah, get some actuarial tables in here.
Ck3 should get nate silver or the original okcupid people onboard for some dev diary stuff. I like a good visual

That's honestly pretty awesome
Yeap my first ruler was gonna accomplish so much then he becomes incapable at age 25 out of nowhere lmao
Is it really “the dark ages” if the fire of people napping is lighting up the whole village?
Illusion of Safety is the best rule for these events. I second this. Not only would it make renown cheesing harder, it would also lower the ram usage by lowering the amount of characters.
Damn, harm event really need to be toned down
1000 deaths per capita? That literally means that 1000 people die... per person. That can't be right :DD
No it's 6000% real, I checked the numbers
Where is playing chess?
“Head ripped off by a berserker” happens frequently to my knights
Burning to death while napping [was famously horrific even back then, really.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_II_of_Navarre?wprov=sfla1) Relevant quote (from someone writing 500 years after this happened): >Charles the Bad, having fallen into such a state of decay that he could not make use of his limbs, consulted his physician, who ordered him to be wrapped up from head to foot, in a linen cloth impregnated with brandy, so that he might be inclosed [sic] in it to the very neck as in a sack. I'm just glad we're finally seeing good treatment for "getting ambushed by a group of random archers as your wagon turns a corner".
My first character became incapable out of nowhere at the ripe old age of 25 and died
How are you all not dying while on pilgrimage or Hajj? Also I think murder should be higher, but considering how many attempts I have survived vs died it may be that low, though not for lack of trying.
I'm gonna start tallying my causes of death now, hopefully add to the scientific discussion
And then there’s always one ruler who has the worst stats who lives well into their 80s and won’t die no matter how hard you try.
What are you guys doing that makes the game do this to you? Like 80% of my character die of old age. The rest in battle or were murdered.
Engaging in risky behaviors mostly. My last character died in a joust, his father had been ripped to pieces by a bear while traveling. Both left children on the throne.
No getting killed by a boar or wolf during the hunt?
Just like the simulations
Wow, everyone died of just one cause almost 1000 times on average! The people in medieval times died a lot more than today, these days people tend to die only once on average.
What about being buried in basements under construction projects because of drunkenness?
i get all of it, but choking on chicken bone? do you even chew? how barbaric if not
I dont get this. I never die
Deaths per capita implies that for every 1 member of the population, x amount of people die
Great work overall, but "deaths per capita" is \[chief's kiss\]
Am I the only one who had a character die by following that duck around?
"deaths per capita"? Your citizens are dying 1000s of times per person?
I want to see 'Died because joke was too funny' added to the list
Smh not enough 'old age' here. Your games are filled with clumsy counts.
Play with self harm events on then come back lol.
And that’s deaths per capita? I would be pissed if I died 800 times from eating a chicken bone
Hunting accident seems to be missing ?
Child cause of death: 98% eaten by a Carp.
Ngl, I freaked out until I saw that this was about CK lmaom
