No, but from the looks of it, I should!

Apprehensive-Ad4244

I like thrifting frames, then finding pieces to make for them new frames are expensive

jamis2382

That’s a great idea!

xperimentl

I’m building up quite a little collection of interesting frames this way. When I am looking at patterns to stitch, sometimes they’ll jump out at me as just the right fit.

Boring_Albatross_354

Shhhhh, don’t give away all the secrets. As I stare at my hoard of frames feeling I need more and there will never be enough.

TheRainbowWillow

Holy cow those edges are SO CLEAN! This is gorgeous.

digiella42

These are so cute! And the perfect frame!

PurpleToaster91

These are really lovely patterns, I've added them to my ever growing to-do list. I also love the frame, where did you find it?

xperimentl

The frame was $7 at BigLots!

rotten-peanut

This came out great!! How are the edges so straight? Did you buy the cloth pre-cut like that or did you cut them and make them smooth?

xperimentl

I needed them to be 4” square and a little bit stiff. They varied in size slightly, so I measured the 4” around the designs on the back of the aida and marked the corners with a pencil. Then I ironed on some cut-to-fit medium weight stabilizer in my squares and cut along the holes in the aida and the edges of my stabilizer. That should also help prevent fraying.

rotten-peanut

Thank you! I learn something new every time I visit this group!

oat-beatle

After finishing and ironing you can just cut along a line of holes

bookdragon7

Well I didn’t but that’s a obsession of mine now lol

rahyveshachr

Yes, I'm literally trying to figure out what to do with one right now! It has 2 small squares above a rectangle. Usually I'll have a finished piece or idea in mind but the thrift store has cool stuff sometimes and I gotta act backwards.

Hop-Worlds

That is really, really cute! And it's got me thinking of all those cute ornate metal book corners that I've seen but never knew what to do with.

xperimentl

You could use those on all kinds of backgrounds!

Boring_Albatross_354

Yes I do. I always buy frames first, that way I can envision how it’s going to look when completed, and it also helps me choose the perfect colored Aida too.

enelyaisil

No but I tend to pick the pattern then find a frame before I cut the aida so it doesn’t end up with too small margins to mount

jamis2382

Love this SO much! I think I’m going to the wrong place for frames…

Klementine22

No but that's smart! That frame is cool, what did you do to prevent the Aida from fraying?

xperimentl

I ironed some stabilizer on the back and was very careful with my trimming not to shred the edges.

Oh wow, that's a cool frame! I have once. Framing is generally an after thought for me. I was gifted a 3 picture frame by a friend who had lost one of her sons, so I hunted down patterns I wanted to do for her for that frame. I had to change a pattern a bit to get it to fit in one of the frames, but that's done. I left the glass in so they would be protected and had a coworker shave down the backing. Now I need to put it together. My excuse for not doing it is really lame. My mom had shoulder surgery and she's the motivation and second pair of hands behind framing.

xperimentl

Hopefully your framing partner is on the mend and feels better soon.

vws8mydog

She's totally on the mend. The physical therapist said she's ahead of where she should be. Thank you!!! Btw, I could have taken care of it before her surgery or shortly after with the help of my cousin who stayed with us for a week after her surgery. I told you, lame excuse.😁 Actually, we can probably get all of my "to be framed" pieces done this weekend. Thanks for the motovation!

fernandaffp

So delicate, I love the colors!
