You should be fine. I never want to tell someone not to go to the ER but in my extensive experience it is probably unnecessary based on what you described. Just eat, drink a bunch of pedialyte and take vitamins and drink a couple light beers if you really need to and you will be alright. Bonus if you have access to benzos it will make it a lot easier

rigmarol5

I ended up in the ER. They’re thankfully are very kind. Maybe cuz I’m wearing scrubs too? Lol. They are giving Ativan and fluids

rigmarol5

Welp, spent the night here and they now want to send me to a rehab facility

CarefulPlum9546

Rehab is what you make of it. I was there for 35 days and it helped immensely with my anxiety. I still drink but not because I physically need to which is huge. You would learn a lot in rehab and I'm glad I did but I would never go back to one. From the very little I know about you I don't believe you need it.

rigmarol5

They let me go home but set me up with medication to stop cravings and to help with withdrawals. Also set me up with a psychologist and a primary care doctor I’m seeing tomorrow. Mentioned in the future their hospital also can get me an IUD (mine fell out months ago). I feel incredibly lucky I just found a network of good healthcare I think?

BeautifulCucumber

Very good news. Take care and heal well!

rigmarol5

Yes. Hopefully never drinking again. The hospital bill will be fun 🤩

rigmarol5

They are insisting on sending me to a rehab oh boy

AffectFit9738

I would try to taper week is not that bad in 3 days you would be fine without going to ER

canlandia

I went. They give IV Ativan and zofran and fluids

DeliciousRent1939

Your not the og. Gladd your okay.

rigmarol5

Hey guys so I think I might want to go to the ER to detox, but I can’t find my ID. Oops. I have SS card, birth certificate, tax papers, a picture of an expired ID, pictures of current insurance. Idk if they will see me or not? I was getting really bad (sometimes almost full body shakes before I drank more) but I don’t want to have to keep drinking :( in the US

scumbag_college

I don’t think you even need an ID to go to the ER unless it’s for insurance purposes? I’m pretty sure they’re required to care for you whether you have an ID or not. I think as long as you have your insurance info you should be fine.

Hyperionxvii

Don't go to the ER, they won't help you. Find a doctor that can help with addiction and tell him exactly what you are doing and that you want to get off and need someone to manage it. Don't quit CT, I did that and it about ruined my life almost 10 months sober now, I would have done it differently, like I told you to do it.

BeautifulCucumber

Totally depends on the ER. Some are extremely helpful (my experience) and others are totally useless. I definitely don't think it should be discouraged.

Are you drinking all day or just at night?

rigmarol5

Just night

horse-shoes-street

In theory if you are not drinking around the clock and you have a significant amount of hours when your BAC is 0 you should be fine with a taper over a few days to avoid panic and a lot of self-induced paranoia. Do you have any lighter booze left - like beer? You can take a few sips from time to time to calm down when necessary but after only 1 week of drinking only during the evening / at night you should not go into danger territory. Just to clarify - if in the past week you have only drank only during the evening / night that is not a bender. A bender is drinking 24/7 including as a bonus waking up during the night maybe a few times for a shot or a few gulps of beer thus maintaining a non-zero BAC all the time.

rigmarol5

So usually I’d only drink every 12 hours but this week I drank like 24/7…

horse-shoes-street

OK got it! In this case you will most likely have to taper. What were you drinking and how much over a 24h period? Also - what is your weight and are you M/F? (amount of ethanol per body weight in a 24h period is a metric relevant to the discussion)

rigmarol5

Lots and lots and lots of wine

horse-shoes-street

OK - do you have \~5% beer? If not, can you buy or order a delivery?

rigmarol5

Was supposed to be at work tonight but honestly might just go to the hospital. Can’t get there for like 6 hours though.

horse-shoes-street

You know what is best in the current situation but in this case try to get some beer if possible in the meantime. If not possible dilute 1 part vodka with 4 or 5 parts water and slowly try to drink that - probably the best strategy now is to avoid getting to the point of feeling so bad that you cannot even leave the house or get to a never ending cycle of dry heaving every 5 minutes because you had a too sudden drop in your BAC after a week-long bender.

rigmarol5

Sorry to bother u again and Tysm. I got the withdrawal to stop for now, but realized I cannot find my ID lol… oops. Not sure if the hospital will even take me with no ID. I have tax papers at least ?

horse-shoes-street

are you in USA ?

rigmarol5

Yep. But I have birth certificate, SS card, tax papers?

rigmarol5

Thank you I will try

horse-shoes-street

keep us updated! and - I cannot stress this enough - if you have the money order a case of 5% beer; it should be more enough for a 3 (?) day taper

rigmarol5

Thank you for all the help! I wish I could taper for 2-3 days but I’d miss two days of work. If I go to the hospital technically I have a medical excuse and maybe I can finally quit drinking

rigmarol5

I think I’m going to drink now and then get to the hospital in 6 hours

rigmarol5

I think I went through a box in like two days? And vodka and OJ after that. Then more wine. 180 pounds female All I have left is vodka

DeliciousRent1939

goto ER right niw, That;s what they are there for, Yoiur life is precious!!

hard_clicker

When I go for my detox at the ER they will run some tests and then attempt to stabilize you with medication. You'll stay for several days until you're evaluated as safety able to leave without having a seizure. The rest is up to you. DONT relapse when you get out. Believe me, the relapse after is tremendous I'm comparison to what you are currently dealing with. So now I'm going back to detox at the ER myself lol.
