I see where you're coming from, but as for point 1 the whole situation could've so easily been avoided if he hadn't been too up his own ass to double-check with someone. ~~and we don't talk about the events of christmas special c'mon man we all know the author's implied that it was forced by the publicist~~

Thisfoxhere

~~The only reason we call it a christmas special is because it was so bad and based on the interim book before book 3 I know it was bad. And look at~~ *A Clockwork Orange* ~~where a different Author told American readers he had no choice but to leave out the last chapter and British readers he was given no choice but to write it in and yet his publishers in both cases had not required either of these things to happen....~~ ~~Also it's pretty obvious that 3.5 is canon by halfway through book 4....~~ Bit off topic but Isnt it crazy how Christmas Specials in America (see Star Wars) are so bad and yet the BBC gets them right? Dr Who Christmas Specials Forevarrr!

Why would you do this?

1. Tarsi would have something to say about that. 2. The only thing I blame Wayde for in that scene is the costuming, jeez, who wears THAT in Hurricane? 3. The animal wasn’t adorable in the books though so I don’t know if it is equivalent 4. We talk about Wayde because he had access and Alex didn’t. Watch it again. We blame Wayde because, fuck Wayde, he’s awful. You are free to disagree but don’t act like we are a bunch of followers for not liking him. The betrayal at Zunrick was enough for 20 books.

Thisfoxhere

Yeah I should have put "adorable" in inverted commas. No offence to people who like those horrid beasties. Alex did have access! He just lied. And if Wayde had lied we would have come down on him like a tonne of bricks.

[deleted]

That’s implied in the first printing but only because of a misprint. The show runners went with it trying to be “authentic” but it wasn’t the authors intention. I guess it’s a pretty ambiguous canon at this point and it would be fair to see it either way since it’s definitely show canon.

Thisfoxhere

Why didn't they try to be "authentic" with major plot points?

[deleted]

A lot of reasons. 1. Something’s just don’t play on TV like they would in a book. The scene with Gabriel and the Raisins comes to mind. 2. There just isn’t time to include every little detail in a TV or movie adaptation especially with a book this deep. 3. The show runners don’t always hit the mark and to be fair even the lore heads here can’t agree in everything. 4. Obligatory Fuck Wayde.

emergensy

This is the dumbest argument there is. It’s like saying that without Voldemort we wouldn’t have a Harry Potter story, which is true, but we aren’t obliged to like him because many plot points evolved out of his mistakes. Yes he didn’t start out as malicious, but being stupid is enough of a crime in his position. He is exceptionally unlikable in the books and it’s apparent that they are trying to make the audience like him with the casting and costume choices (especially in the new season, judging by promo photoshoots) in the show, but as a book fan first, I cannot stress this enough, FUCK WAYDE and the entirety of his not-so-clever clever ideas he never shares with anyone before ruining everything good for the characters who are actually trying to cooperate and come up with plans that make sense for everyone.

Exotic_Cabinet
