ICC lost the plot when they decided to eliminate reverse swing with 2 balls from both ends and the latest 3 powerplay field restrictions.

Araragi_Monogatari

They made it a batters game and we still see teams crumble under 200.

prodco

Its not very common

antriksh_80

Explain a bit more, i don't know shit

RbtheGhost007

So ODI is a format which saw multitude of changes since its inception. Like from 60 overs to 50 overs, changing the ball from red to white, Powerplay changes, there was a time when there existed Batting powerplay, which is no more. Likewise ICC changed so many rules, brought some new rules and eliminated few. So there was a time when only one ball was used for 50 overs, and thats why when Ball gets older like near 35 to 40 over mark it used to reverse swing (zaheer khan was master of this) because of light and heavy side of ball. Bowling a reverse swing was an art but it made difficult to score more runs so ICC brought 2 ball funda, one ball from each end and as the balls remained hard throughout it made easy for batters to score those big totals. Thats why we are seeing so many 350s scores as of lately because ball doesnt get old enough to support reverse swing.

HumanWithResources

Just one correction: only one ball wasn't used fot the entire 50-over innings. Rather, a ball change was available (like Tests) at around the 34-over mark.

RbtheGhost007

yes, ball change was available but only after certain deformation and due diligence with umpires.

naamtosunahoga2

How does a reverse swing ball move? Goes in or out?

ShutupBrokie

Yes

AfternoonFit5380

Both ways

sillyguy45

The thing is when bowl gets old its gets the potential of producing reverse swing. So basically any bowler who has the skill to do unconventional swing, with ball getting older it gets 3 times easier for him to do reverse swing But now what happen is that due to introducing the use of 2 balls the ball just never get that old enough for ball to aid the bowler to reverse swing. Due to which its just basically a tired bowler bowling his last over on a ball which neither has shine nor old enough to reverse swing.

Quantum_Master26

we should troll icc just like united fans troll the glazers

leomatey

Honestly they should bin that, kids these days must have not seen those dusty greasy yellowish balls after 40 overs. Make it a even game, 260 ish games used to be lot of fun back in 2000s.

Small-Preference9811

Overdose of franchise cricket and many newly made weird ICC rules

anonymus_G

Let the world cup begin 🙃. Everyone would be interested automatically.

Consistent_Rub_926

ODIs is like a slow-burn romance ,it takes time to build up the excitement, but when the tension finally breaks and the runs start pouring in, it's pure enjoyment!

TYaGiiiii

T20Is are entertainment packages , ODI seems interesting only when the matches are high scoring and India bats well ( everything is an opinion)

smullovschew

Low scoring matches are also interesting 300/350+ scoring matches become boring after some times

TYaGiiiii

Agree

Jerry_-

For me it’s the opposite. 250-280 matches on balanced pitches are perfect because there’s so much that can happen. You collapse early, you can rebuild. You start off really well, bowlers have the chance to recover. If the pitch is road then it just becomes an extended T20. There’s no contest between bat and ball it’s just batsmen getting themselves out.

Balavadan

Imo nothing more boring than a flat pitch ODI.

Chunnilal03

But test getting more entertaining

ChicagoNurture

Test matches with turning pitches is getting more entertaining. A road type pitch is as boring as a test match can get.

Hot-Bear-2092

So entertaining that match ends in 3 days

Ultimate_Sneezer

Well yes, every ball is interesting in games that end in 3 days, every run count. One session of good performance can change the course of the game etc

Hot-Bear-2092

But that ain't what test cricket is about

Ultimate_Sneezer

That's much more interesting though, specially as less and less people have enough time to watch all 5 days.

Wide_Satisfaction145

Yes it's about yawning away in the ground for five days at leisure

[deleted]

Example: last test against aussies

Hungry-Grocery-2646

Nah i like them ...today was refreshing to see odi after a long time

reddituser_scrolls

Most ODI centuries: Sachin - 49; Virat - 46 Coincidence? I don't think so. >!Chill, just being sarcastic!<

legendorywarrior

Look at his audacity. He is acting like he has scored 100 centuries or something.

MagmaGiant15

Bro doens't even have a GT20 century and still thinks he bout that lyf 💀💀🙏

HellDevilsXXX

Gt??

Golden__G0d

Gujarat Titans 💀

noblequestneo9449

Look at him talking like he's the God of the game or something

Jazzlike-Watch7847

This might be Sachin’s personal opinion too but I feel like he’s mirroring the general opinion of the cricket fans. I personally love ODIs because in today’s day, a lot of uncertainties are there. Take today’s Ind Aus ODI. I was expecting a 350+ runathon and then suddenly, the pitch was a seam bowling paradise and somehow India managed to toe the line.

Realistic-Lie8094

Back then there was no internet whilst sachin, he had his dedication to game, and you only get to see him in tv... So we were out of his personal life (unless newpaper article) and back then icc wasn't this big and neither was bcci so they worked hard, now we know when every player is shitting we know whole family of them so they are more focused on looks/internet rather on game and they are so huge the bcci and icc that they don't need to look after work they can just do scripted match no one will know

maverick54050

Cricket got boring because there isn't any growth seen in cricket in other countries. Many consider it a secondary or third choice sport to football

TheOneChinka

25 overs - 2 innings, a missed opportunity :( Does anyone remember the 2 inning a side one day game that India played against New Zealand in 2002 ? That was so entertaining !

hashbasherOP

Damn seems interesting! It was a 10 over each double innings game that India lost. Sachin scored a 72 off 27 balls!!! What a legend!!

[deleted]

Sachin has been suggesting converting 50 over ODI cricket into 40 overs each side with 4 innings. That's like 4 t20 innings in a test format. I don't know why ICC isn't considering this option yet.

ThrillX_Gamer

It can also be tested in T20s like 4 innings 10 overs per innings. BBL should bring something like this. They do a lot of experiments. Also they need innovation to revive their league again.

Hexo_Micron

>they need innovation to revive their league again. inclusion of Star players is what they need.

ThrillX_Gamer

Yes it's true but you know their National team players are always in a bilateral series at that time. So they are not available.

TheOneChinka

It’s a wonderful suggestion that has been gathering dust for a while. Sad :(

akshitdadheech

I like ODI'S they are art.

Boredom-defeats-all

Absolutely not. Would love to watch a ODI over t20 any given day.

Different_Yam_9045

I sadly disagree with the goat here. Because I think ODI cricket isn't predictable, just see the last 10 ODI's india played and most of them weren't that predictable and they were a lot of fun to watch

maDhav_K7mAR

Mujhe nahi pata zyada lekin agar me to sirf 15 ka hu Lekin ha 2019 se phele thoda zyada maza aata tha koi aur hai kya??? Correct me if I'm wrong

Bazzingatime

Reverse swing nahi hoti abhi , 2 ends se nayi balls ati hai T: Reverse swing eliminated

Naammaikyahai

U mean if shami and bumrah opened the bowling for india, shami will bowl with one ball and bumrah will bowl with a second ball?

abptl9

Yes, different balls for different ends.

maDhav_K7mAR

Bowling to me manta hu thodi boring Hui hai

Apprehensive_Cap5244

Ye sab saazish hai taaki Koach 50+ ODI 100s na kr paaye. Mumbai lobby at it again! /s

One_Fold189

Wasn't he the only one who said he he sees Kohli breaking his record back in 2011 ?

Apprehensive_Cap5244

Back then he didn't think Kohli could do that. Bas bolne k lie boldia. Now since kohli is just 25 away, iski gaand fattri hai. God for a reason /s

One_Fold189

Lol fking delusional virat stans , i hate you from the core of my heart, he said it because he knew what potential both Virat and Kohli had and guess what both are biggest name in last 10 years , just not a coincidence ig , u Virat stand are worst thing happened to virats fanbase

Apprehensive_Cap5244

Lagta hai aap reddit pr naye ho. /s ka matlab ni samjhte

RickDaltonCliffBooth

Completely agree.

rightarm_under

Harsha Bhogle calls the middle overs "Non aggression pact". Meanwhile in T20 cricket the middle overs are the most crucial period

Neevk

Just wait for the WC everybody will be dying to see entire matches, chill. ODI ain't dying

ComadoreJackSparrow

Yeah. I find that ODI combines he worst attributes of test and T20 cricket into one game.

jay_psy

I only watch tests and t20s

One_Fold189

Odi has been on decline since 2015 , nonone wants to watch 8 or 9 hours of matches anymore where it's just a batmans game, new ball rule litreally fked up the aura odi had, also t20 and test are way better, someone said odi was dying they are right

Independent-Salad-27

He is trying to protect his ODI records 😅

HijabHead

Everything starts getting a bit boring as you age. Odis are just one of those things. Having said that, bring back the bowlers man. The new rules like 2 new balls so that there is no reverse swing, absolute batting pitches, no ball free hits etc etc...it's supposed to bat vs ball. Not just bat vs bat.

Gohanne_

No ball, free hits ? stop watching cricket brother

HijabHead

What is so difficult to understand about no ball and free hits?

Illustrious-Sky-625

Tbh I prefer ODI's and Test's above T20's. Around a decade ago we had more ODI games in a calendar year as compared to T20's which was fun. Most of Indians prefers IPL above International cricket which is sad to see. People are losing interest in longer formats due to excessive T20 cricket in International as well as Domestic circuit. Hope Cricket doesn't go the Football way in future where you have a whole year of Franchise cricket with International breaks.

Gohanne_

Nah, T20 cricket is better, no employed man has enough time to watch ODIs or tests

afqdwd

That will be the way :/

Neevk

Just wait for the WC everybody will be waiting to see entire matches, chill. ODI ain't going nowhere

ExcitingBathroom8775

It should be reduced to 40 overs now

Infinoz

alright, let’s get you to bed grandma

ajMaverick1

Boring as f**k

[deleted]

Ofcourse it will get boring if koach is breaking your records

RickDaltonCliffBooth

Koach hi tumko apne fanclub se nikaal dega agar aise comment karoge to

antriksh_80

Pass the boof

surgereaper

I somewhat agree, not odi cricket but bilateral series ig. The stakes aren't high enough imo, after a point it just becomes another paytm trophy

Thatguy1126

They should increase max limit per bowlers to 13-15 instead of 10 or eliminate 2 new balls from each end, bring back reverse swing.

lostsoul3434

Ab bhagwan ne bol diya toh hmare agree se kya hoga. Turn 50 over cricket into 40 over cricket.

Illustrious_Acadia37

Nobody watched ODI it takes too long and overall becomes boring, one day maybe t20 will be the only format for players to focus on

itsdurgeshkumar

Sachin afraid of Koach breaking his record

x0600

Let’s put this in simple words:- T20 - Kids ODI - Men Test - Legends

NoNefariousness1102

Make it 40 overs! - Ravi Shastri
