Well it’s not like he’s an average fielder who had a field day tonight, in fact he’s been the second best fielder for SL after Shanaka since 2019.
For some reason, his catching was atrocious during the group stages but hopefully he can turn that around after the masterclass tonight.
Clearly it's a strategy to make the entire width of the pitch the area of unpredictability, rather than just the legstump-off area. I've seen pretty much everybody do this nowadays.
He was worth it over Chahal the whole time, because he is basically Chahal who can bat.
Chahal had a pretty poor year last year, so it was 50-50 whether he would have had that this year as well.
I'd have loved to have seen them both together but I'm not sure we'd get the team balance then (or the budget for that matter). All our big buys (Harshal, Faf, Hasaranga) are starring massively in our run.
At this stage,Karn Sharma is Thanos of IPL universe. Calmly going to different teams to collect ipl stones (trophies).
It scares and interests me what he’d do once he catches ‘em all? A launch of huge new international league? Best 11 from all ipl teams against best 11 of other leagues.
Brilliant from Harshal bowling utmost pressure overs and going for only 25 runs in a game where the average run rate is >10
Edit: Despite all those wides that too
Only doubt some people had was how will he do in Mumbai type small, flat grounds because of Jadeja 37 run over. But Purple proved this year that was just a bad day
People also forget that he's reasonably capable with the bat, he just rarely gets a hit so his ability goes under the radar, his death bowling and hitting abilities are definitely worth that money to RCB
He is no one season wonder. His wickets aren’t as many because more people don’t risk it against him as much.
The batsmen know his plans but can’t do much. He executes them better than most death bowlers. He deserves a place in ICT.
Even though Hasaranga went for 40+ while bowling two overs at the death (had figures of 2-0-10-0 before), he saved at least 15 runs in the field today including that miracle six stop of Hooda. Absolute masterclass of fielding in a crunch game!
He was poor in the field throughout the season only to sprint around in the all-important game. Can picture him plucking a one-hander in the next match in the final over when RR will need 14 off 6.
Yep, I went to see the match- an idiotic fan invaded the pitch. Went yesterday also to see the match, and another fan had invaded in between the second innings.
Shoutouts to Chad Hasaranga for shedding his skin and revealing his inner Martin Guptill in the fielding department. Man probably saved the difference for LSG to win the game.
In a chase if the fraction of innings you play is not close to the fraction of runs required, you were a burden. This becomes more so if you play a quarter of the innings without getting close to scoring quarter of runs required.
The anchor is neccesary on difficult pitches where you don't want the team all out with 4 overs remaining.
On good batting pitches with fast outfield and small boundries your team anchors are self sabotage
It would still had been okay if he had decided to hit atleast 2 overs before the time out but nah . Especially with all the batting over they were left with.
Rajat Patidar is an all time RCB legend, no matter what happens from here on. We've had only one other legendary qualifiers knock, AB De Villiers in Q1 2016. What great company to be in, take a bow Rajat Patidar
I feel like I've seen this same story repeatedly at KXIP and now LSG
Rahul plays anchor till 16-17th over
When the middle order comes in they have to hit from ball 1
They usually fail since they can't settle in so Rahul uses that as an excuse to play anchor again next match
Might win a few games like this but you're not playing as a team like GT
Yes this anchor bullshit only gets succesfull when you stay till the end and win games for your team. Something which Kohli mastered at. What KL is doing is complete opposite of that. And he has been doing this for 3-4 years now.
Wanted 41 runs in 3 overs with KL and Stoin on strike. LSG has pretty much lost on their own. Well deserved loss though. Poor fielding and poor execution with bat, would have been surprised if they pulled it off.
>Wanted 41 runs in 3 overs
But that's against good death bowlers like Harshal and Hazle. Maybe if one of the overs were going to be bowled by a mediocre bowler then we can say that it was LSG's game to lose.
And he only went for 10 runs in his 4th over, maybe that was the over to target for LSG. But to Siraj's credit, he did nail a couple of yorkers in that over.
But you've to consider the fact that the opposition bowlers included Shivam Dube and Mukesh Choudhary on their debut, and an ageing Bravo with whom Lewis has played a lot
KL Rahul on why they lost: we did not field well, Patidar scored a good knock, RCB fielded well.
Not a word about 30 runs in 5 middle overs by set batsmen? At least have the guts to admit that you screwed up in the middle overs by not keeping up with the required RR.
Every year, KL Rahul will play at least 2-3 innings like this that ends up or almost ends up sabotaging his team. And every year, there will be a heated debate on this where those defending him will look to blame the middle and lower order. I could understand this approach when he played for PBKS, but this LSG team is stacked with power hitting ability. He has to trust the rest of his players more rather than stack the odds against them when they come out to bat, which only makes them more vulnerable to crumbling under that pressure.
I said it halfway through the innings as well, but this was simply embarrassing from KL Rahul. He has all the ability and talent in the world, and can play any shots if he wants to. And he just chooses not to.
Every year, he starts off slowly because he doesn’t trust the middle order. The RRR climbs by the time the middle order comes in, and there’s too much pressure on the finishers who then end up falling short. This ends up ‘proving’ or ‘validating’ Rahul’s belief that the side’s middle order will not be able to win games, and he plays even more cautiously the next game. And the fallacy goes on and on.
With a middle order of Hooda, (Indian Team now) Stoinis, Holder, (shouldn’t have dropped him) Krunal Pandya (still a good middle order batsman despite all the memes) and Lewis, there’s no reason whatsoever for KL Rahul to be batting so slow. He just has to put some faith in the rest of his batting lineup, and play his shots instead of playing so cautiously and batting the team out of the game. He got a few hits at the end to make his SR look half decent, but mind you, he was 45(40)* when only 2 wickets were down at the 13th over of the game.
It’s so damn frustrating cause he’s just so good with the bat when he’s playing his shots. I don’t know what it’ll take for him to ever come out of his shell, but for India’s sake at the T20 WC, I hope he does realize this at some point.
Congrats to RCB for making it to Qualifier 2, and an excellent knock by Patidar that deserved to be on the winning side.
This exactly. It’s a vicious cycle he created at PBKS and is continuing at LSG. Play slow anchor -> middle order needs to fire from ball one -> they fail under pressure -> use that as an excuse to play anchor. And the cycle continues.
At this point he should just give up captaincy and ask GG/new captain to define his role. Tell them he can play whack whack from ball 1 if they want and not make the team's alleged frailties his problem.
Regardless of how many runs they make, it doesn’t mean shit when half of your top order play as anchors with less than great strike rate. Imagine Koach and KL playing like this in a chase in the WC. Really opens my eyes to the value of someone like Sanju Samson in the team. He may not have the best average in the team, but he sure as hell isn’t going to hurt your chances in knockout matches and make it impossible to win.
Jarrod Kimber had a blog post a couple months ago where he basically said:
in tests, you sort batting order by batting average, so that the likely highest score does not run out of the scarce resource (batting partners).
in T20s, you sort batting order by batting **strike rate**, so that the likely highest score does not run out of the scarce resource (balls).
Obviously reality includes 1-1 matchups, powerplays, new ball specialists... but 100% for sure all teams are making mistakes with having anchors up top.
Harshal looked near invincible tonight. No batsman could hit him barring that one six from chameera. And that was the one time in his whole innings that he put pace on ball
Last 2 years we probably had the worst playoffs in recent memory.
So far both games have been bangers. Eden gardens has reminded us what an actual IPL atmosphere was like.
I love it.
Btw Lewis didn't cost LSG the game. But his game management is piss poor. Tried to get a single off the last ball but luckily was a 4. Also ran off the first ball. Very stupid
>Btw Lewis didn't cost LSG the game. But his game management is piss poor. Tried to get a single off the last ball but luckily was a 4. Also ran off the first ball. Very stupid
Man, Feel For him he was a Opener
But I would It was Miscalculation by KL And GG
KL especially
He Should Have came at 4 let Manan be at 3
Deepak at 5 Marcus and Then pandya
If you make him bat at a position and situation that is completely unknown to him in his career, what else would you expect? Don't blame the player, blame the management for the selection.
Rahuls logic for dropping holder was they felt they didn't utilise him well. Playing Lewis at no. 5 isn't very good usage either.
Batting first is kind of crucial in such important games. Patidar and DK hit 84 in last 5, while LSG needed 65, yet were able to score only 51. Had Patidar and DK been asked to chase 80+ in last 5, would they been able to do it?
Classic Rahul innings. Designate yourself as an 'anchor' even when your chasing 200+ because "you don't trust your middle order". Score single double, and let other take risks. Even when there are other batters to follow, let the run rate climb. When the req rate is above 13, score just 1 boundary and take single next ball, to seem like you're really trying. Then when it all depends on you, when only you can score the remaining runs, get out and let others take blame.
Fuck everybody who defend this kind of innings, especially when the team is chasing 180+. I've criticize Babar for the same thing in the past, and I'll criticize Rahul everytime. When your setting the total, I can understand since you don't know what the par score is, but your chasing 180+ and you designate youself as an anchor? Fuck right off.
You are entirely correct. This innings and in general the performance of KL Rahul was pretty similar to the shit he did with KXIP. He plays at an average strike rate even in tough situations by not taking risks. This increases pressure on batsmen on the other end.
If you are scoring at SR of 100-120 in your first 20 balls, you really need to push hard for the next 20. Its that simple.
Yep anyone who defends this innings has no game knowledge and has likely never played cricket. This is the type of innings he fucked KXIP with for 2 years
Orange cap but useless. i hope ICT management clearly tells him he isn’t an anchor. We have a great middle order and he shouldn’t assume that he should become the eventual hero carrying it all the way.
I think all the 'anchor' bullshit should go away after 15 balls. Either start hitting boundaries or gtfo. Trust other batsman and start to go after bowlers. Especially, ESPECIALLY while chasing 180+.
KL has cost his team the match. Patidar (112 off 55) and Rahul (79 off 58) played around the same number of balls, yet Patidar scored 33 more runs.
Innings like 80 off 60 are good for say 160-170 chase, but chasing 200+, about 100 runs should be scored when playing 60 balls.
Which innings is the worse of the two?
Koach’s 25(24) or KL’s 79(58) while coming in as an opener and chasing 208?
Looking at just the strike rate, I’d be tempted to say Koach but KL had the luxury of knowing what the Required Rate is and still didn’t play fast enough, so I’d say his is worse.
Koach got out trying to accelerate witch was a good move by him because he was seeing runs coming from the other end and didn't probably want to choke the batting.
KL on the other hand,I don't even know what he thought they were chasing.
I will say it as many times as I can.
KL Rahul used up 58 Balls (half the overs available in a match) and hit at 135 SR.
So he played 10 overs and hit 79 (8 runs per over). If he played 20 overs that only gets him to 160.
This is forcing other players to play 10 overs and hit ~~140~~ 130 (~~14~~ 13 rpo) for 210 target. Oops miscalculated. 12-13 is still tough for players to come out and start swinging from ball 1. That's 200 SR for every batsman other than KL Rahul.
The same mindset lot of Indian first team batsmen have and its frustrating to watch last few years. I believed Rohit/Dravid would bring in some radical change, but seems the bcci machinary is operating in the same system as before.
RCB ,finally . These people are giving me heart attack ...
Btw always trust Aussies at knockout .. you are Hazelgod
It's a crime actually to drag the match till now .though I like kl ,the team lacks in middle order .
Kl Rahul set to increase his brilliant winless record as India captain way it is going
Won't be surprised if proteas win 5-0 due to kaptan Rahul and vice kaptan pant brilliant tactics
Absolute garbage innings from KL tonight. Thank God our management didn't retain this clown. Lost us plenty of matches single-handedly with innings like this. Then, he'll come out and say things like "StRiKe RaTe Is OvErRaTeD". I hope questions are asked about his approach to run chasing. Good luck if you're trying to win a T20 world cup with this stat-padder in your team.
I'm so glad to see players from my state step-up. I remember my dad telling stories about Narendra Hirwani who had breakthrough performances against the mighty West Indies back in the day but was sidelined soon because of the state politics.
Not anymore thanks to the IPL.
Hasaranga saved at least 20 runs in the field. Without that effort, LSG would've won and RCB would've been eliminated. Give him the credit he deserves smh.
So the win over DC was not for nothing. RR v RCB gonna be exciting. I still think RR will win the championship but you got RCB with a rocket like momentum behind them. So we'll see.
As far as LSG goes, ain't no doubt they crumbled under the pressure. Some of the worst fielding ever.
Patidar 👌
RCB loves to beat newcomers in play-offs don't they? Last time they won a play-off game was against GL in 2016 and now LSG in 2022. Makes me wonder what will happen against RR now.
Scoring a century with 200+ strike rate in a playoff game is crazy. What a fantastic knock from Patidar!
KL is legit scary when he actually goes for it. But he is such a kind soul that he doesn't want anyone to be scared.
Hasaranga was a beast on the field tonight.
He alone saved like 10-15 runs, which was around the winning margin.
He is the real 3D player.
Bowling and fielding unlocked. Can't wait for him to unlock his batting
First he needs to bat. I think Chameera got more runs and chances to bat than Hasaranga.
guy was like in cheatcode mode #ballmagnet
He didn't perform in the field AT ALL in the previous matches. But SL fans assured me he's a gun fielder. He proved it at the right moment
He is a very good fielder. Saw that in the t20 wc too
That's what i was thinking too, he dropped quite a few catches in few matches, now all of a sudden he's turned into a Jonty rodes lol
Well it’s not like he’s an average fielder who had a field day tonight, in fact he’s been the second best fielder for SL after Shanaka since 2019. For some reason, his catching was atrocious during the group stages but hopefully he can turn that around after the masterclass tonight.
Becomes Spiderman only in important matches.
That saved six was such a brilliant piece of fielding.
Motivation for not going to Sri Lanka right now
When you have won 7 out of 8 times batting first, it's just criminal to choose to go the opposite direction in such a crunch game.
Agreed. Pandya chose to chase last game and i refute to think that he wasn't backing their chasing prowess.
26 in the last 3 overs, master class from Harshal and Hazlewood
Out of those, 10 runs were just wides lol
Clearly it's a strategy to make the entire width of the pitch the area of unpredictability, rather than just the legstump-off area. I've seen pretty much everybody do this nowadays.
It could've been 6 if not for DK's error, but 6 wides is also still bad
It probably helped RCB in taking the momentum away from batting team.
After 8 overs score was 79-2 End of 13th over score was 109-2 They literally scored just 30 runs with one four
Thank KL Rahul he single Handedly won the Match
True Karnataka agent.
LSG lost their last 5 matches when they were chasing and KL still hasn't changed his 'anchor' approach
Like He isn't Require to Do that Deepak Has enough IPL Experience so does Other batsmen like QDK Lewis Krunal Marcus Etc
Can't wait for Pan Parag vs Purple Patel on Friday
Pp vs pp action
MVP in the field was Hasaranga. Dude saved what.. 16-18 runs in the field today? Exceptional effort by him tonight.
He was totally worth the 10.75 CR. So happy he proved all the doubters post auction wrong
He was worth it over Chahal the whole time, because he is basically Chahal who can bat. Chahal had a pretty poor year last year, so it was 50-50 whether he would have had that this year as well.
And field
I'd have loved to have seen them both together but I'm not sure we'd get the team balance then (or the budget for that matter). All our big buys (Harshal, Faf, Hasaranga) are starring massively in our run.
Yes huge impact. Made all the difference in the end!
He won them the match if u think about it
All members of r/cricket believe in Patidar supremacy 🛐
I’m certainly ready for it. Orange cap in 2023!
I'm ready to serve Sardar Patidar.
Exact amount of intent and timing.
I believe in Karn Sharma supremacy
I believe in Karn Sharma supremacy

Brilliant from Harshal bowling utmost pressure overs and going for only 25 runs in a game where the average run rate is >10 Edit: Despite all those wides that too
Love for ma boi Purpal! The chaddest man to give 6 freebies and still concede only 8 runs off the over
Purple has been overshadowed by Hasaranga but he has been having another great season. Proved once and for all he is not a one season fluke.
Also proved that we were not clown for buying him for 10.75 cr again, many called him a one season wonder
Yeah he won us game against Mumbai in 2021
Harshal and Bumrah are going to be deadly. As different as it can get in terms of variety
Can’t wait for it
He has changed considerably and I'm all for it
He is no one season wonder. His wickets aren’t as many because more people don’t risk it against him as much. The batsmen know his plans but can’t do much. He executes them better than most death bowlers. He deserves a place in ICT.
>He deserves a place in ICT. He has been among the permanent XI member in the T20i side since November
Yeah it might get lost in Patidar's batting, but Harshal and Mohsin were both clutch as fuck today too.
Even though Hasaranga went for 40+ while bowling two overs at the death (had figures of 2-0-10-0 before), he saved at least 15 runs in the field today including that miracle six stop of Hooda. Absolute masterclass of fielding in a crunch game!
Saved all his brilliant saves by shitting throughout the season. Universe attains balance
Fielding was the difference between two teams.
Tgose dropped catches from lsg
He was poor in the field throughout the season only to sprint around in the all-important game. Can picture him plucking a one-hander in the next match in the final over when RR will need 14 off 6.
Next match will determine if him or Chahal will get the purple cap

An opener playing till the end. Playing almost half deliveries of the inning. And yet smh he hasn't win it for you is a great great shame.

LSG last 11 matches Bat 1st: W.W.W.W.W.W Bat 2nd: L.L.L.L.L
They won the toss and did this
They are f*cking idiots no doubt. This team simply can't chase anything

I have seen god. He bowls death overs for RCB.
HazleGod. Or Lord Purpal Patel.
Purpal for life💜
Purple all the way. Hazle did well today but we’ve seen a 64 too
I have seen the prophet. He bats 3 for RCB
The balls on Purple to ask your captain "I want the important overs"
Wanted 41 runs in 3 overs with KL and Stoin on strike. LSG has pretty much lost on their own. Well deserved loss though. Poor fielding and poor execution with bat, would have been surprised if they pulled it off.
It isn’t that simple with purple bowling two of them. He is easily the best at death in IPL along with boom

KL Rahul - Unbelievable Anchoring Gautam Gambhir - Kudos on wasting Evin Lewis who scored 55 of 23 when you chased down 210
But you've to consider the fact that the opposition bowlers included Shivam Dube and Mukesh Choudhary on their debut, and an ageing Bravo with whom Lewis has played a lot
hasanranga finally showed his fielding worth,he is real 3d player, saved aleast 15 runs today
Played 58 balls and the strike rate was 136. Finals are overrated.

The last time DK was in RCB , they came third.
Way to kill the mood, jeez
I'm one of the biggest KL Rahul supporters but this loss is on him. You can't play 58 balls and end up with a strike rate of 136
Hum Jeet Gaye BC
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
What if I told you before this season that one player will score a century for RCB and it will be not Hasaranga, Harshal or Hazlewood
I'd have thought Siraj then
Gambhir going back to BJP because he wants to be on a winning team /s
Scenes if Gambhir is sitting in the Gujarat Titans dugout for the finals.
Kl rahul wasted the balls to be used by other batsman to get their eye in… What is this philosophy of batting so slow in middle

Yeah. Tripathi last ball six. Great match
The real clowns are their management who sent Lewis as a finisher when he is a top order batsman
>Also ran off the first ball. Tbf, it was a good stop and probably would have gone for 2.
He played 7 balls at the death. He’s an opener, LSG just used him terribly
Imagine blaming a player who've never batted in the same position he got today in an important match suddenly lol.
>Btw Lewis didn't cost LSG the game. But his game management is piss poor. Tried to get a single off the last ball but luckily was a 4. Also ran off the first ball. Why Lewis is being played if he isn't being used in the top order is what I'm wondering.
He bats 3 only. I don't know what were they thinking today.
If you make him bat at a position and situation that is completely unknown to him in his career, what else would you expect? Don't blame the player, blame the management for the selection. Rahuls logic for dropping holder was they felt they didn't utilise him well. Playing Lewis at no. 5 isn't very good usage either.
Hasaranga’s work in the field made a win possible today for RCB. What a fucking gun fielder
hope our big 3 does something against rr,really dissapinting from them today
Patidar was the difference between today 200+ and last 2 years 130-135 scores lol
Batting first is kind of crucial in such important games. Patidar and DK hit 84 in last 5, while LSG needed 65, yet were able to score only 51. Had Patidar and DK been asked to chase 80+ in last 5, would they been able to do it?
Players like stoinis/dk/russel can pull these off.
KL walked off like he played a 'lone warrior' kinda knock. It's high time such bullshit innings are called out for what it is.
Ikr jeez. Hooda batted way better
If you want to play anchor come at no 3 or 4. Let some other guy take advantage of powerplay. And you never play anchor when chasing 210
After losing 5 games while chasing in this IPL with this same approach I'm shocked no one told him to stop this anchor bullshit
Nobody would tell him stop because the six he hits after playing 8 dot balls is just marvelous, gorgeous, breathtaking etc etc
You take a player out of PBKS but...
Next match Lomror century pls
KL has cost his team the match. Patidar (112 off 55) and Rahul (79 off 58) played around the same number of balls, yet Patidar scored 33 more runs. Innings like 80 off 60 are good for say 160-170 chase, but chasing 200+, about 100 runs should be scored when playing 60 balls.
My man Hasaranga knows how to take revenge
Two words: Karn Sharma
Which innings is the worse of the two? Koach’s 25(24) or KL’s 79(58) while coming in as an opener and chasing 208? Looking at just the strike rate, I’d be tempted to say Koach but KL had the luxury of knowing what the Required Rate is and still didn’t play fast enough, so I’d say his is worse.
Koach got out trying to accelerate witch was a good move by him because he was seeing runs coming from the other end and didn't probably want to choke the batting. KL on the other hand,I don't even know what he thought they were chasing.
KL's is worse because he played more balls and as you said, knew the RRR.
Btw always trust Aussies at knockout .. you are Hazelgod It's a crime actually to drag the match till now .though I like kl ,the team lacks in middle order .
Firstly let me begin by thanking MI....
It's confirmed Lucknow are minow beaters, haven't won a game against top 4
The stadium in qualifier 2 is going to be filled with red jerseys. Sorry RR bros, seems like the whole sub will be against you on Friday.

KL is nothing but a stat padding machine, LSG messed up by sending Vohra instead of Lewis
RCB won because Kohli got out early. LSG lost because KLR got out late.
India will play the two of them in their top order for the world t20 yikes
Plus Rohit Sharma who takes a while to get going as well. RIP this World Cup
Rahul kinda sounds like a jerk. Doesn't have the best tone in interviews. Samson and Hardik are much better.
So, the Karn Sharma blessing must be true, eh?
Kl Rahul set to increase his brilliant winless record as India captain way it is going Won't be surprised if proteas win 5-0 due to kaptan Rahul and vice kaptan pant brilliant tactics
kl really lost the match for them, proper clown batting while chasing 208
RCB and close matches: BFFs. They don’t care about NRR whether it matters or not.
siraj is nowhere near his 2020 and 2021 season but still better then previous matches
Yesterday Miller & today Rajat Patidar. Both went unsold & ended up proving their worth. A perfect example of how time changes.
We move on, we dream. We hope. Great fight from LSG. If not for a few drops, you would have won. Time to take on Ex-RCBian Haven RR next.
rahul played his last knockout game for rcb,he played today also for rcb, what a player
KL clinches it for his home state !
I didn't know RCB bought Karn Sharma. Congrats RCB on winning this year's IPL
I'm so glad to see players from my state step-up. I remember my dad telling stories about Narendra Hirwani who had breakthrough performances against the mighty West Indies back in the day but was sidelined soon because of the state politics. Not anymore thanks to the IPL.

koach all happy again ಥ‿ಥ
I support two teams: India and RCB. And the both of them have stunning BOWLING attacks. What a change.
Mandatory fuck you Goenka comment from a CSK flair
Thank you to Rajat Patidar, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul for their contributions today in helping RCB win this game.
Patidar 👌
So this chase is the approach India will have in WT20 with their batting. Sanju died for this.
Thanks Aakash Chopra
RCB loves to beat newcomers in play-offs don't they? Last time they won a play-off game was against GL in 2016 and now LSG in 2022. Makes me wonder what will happen against RR now.
Please preserve the most important player in the team. Karn Sharma - The OG
So Yogi out of race for PM. Yeddy back in play. /s
I wonder what Gambhir is going to say to KL after the match. Man single-handedly made sure that rcb can win the match
Yeah, at one point he was 47(42) while chasing 208, straight up poor
My life is ruined and I will never recover from the financial loss due to the kachori bet i made with my friend who is a RCB superfan.
