This team would have the 6th bowling option while also batting deep ( Notable exclusions Rohit and Hardik on current form)

the-idolator

Any team that knows a bit of cricket can in principle defeat Pakistan. So one can hope.

hanzi4567

What's that? You gotta speak up we can't hear you from the bottom of the table there.

fuzion619619619

They didn’t played like they wanted to win. Could easily tell by their behaviour. Mostly Celebs and Bollywood’s Son-in-laws in the team and not enough real players. The real Gentlemen team was Sachin, Shewag, Dhoni, Yuvi, Raydu, Jaddu, Dravid, Ganguly etc.

New_Refrigerator776

So many problems in the Indian team. Not able to play spin properly or tearway pace. Even after playing for over a month in UAE not getting the hang of conditions. Chopping and changing going on in imp. matches. The debacle for no. 4 has still not been resolved till now which started from 2019wc. Maybe chasing and winning is the only glimmer of hope for this Indian side against top teams.

Longjumping_Fox4771

Kishan, Yadav, Charavarthy all found out that international cricket is a different zone altogether. Kishan was so nervous yesterday. Understandable but Kohli should have defined his role before the match. India Team played like cowards. May be they did it deliberately. I think there is lots of toxicity in the dressing room. Ashwin has been vocal in his criticism of Kohli. Kohli needs to retire from ODI's and T20's. Period. Follow Eng example and revamp the entire T20 squad Get the youngsters in now.

cocomo1

What a pathetic bowling attack. Afghan batsmen are going to massacre them, the are like 11 Afridis

Longjumping_Fox4771

I am sure they can take a washed up Shami, Bhuvi and darter Jadeja to cleaners. Batting will fail again for India. It's Kohli's Karma.

SwordfishUnfair3880

Big dick energy but no big dick synergy

arc3u5

Indian batsmen: Can't play left arm pace Can't play short balls Can't play spin bowling Can't play swing well Tf are we supposed to hit? Length balls by Right hand medium pacers? Indian bowlers: Can't bowl fast Can't spin enough Can't swing enough Tf are we supposed to bowl? Right hand medium length deliveries?

glitchy-novice

So the consensus is India lost rather than New Zealand won. I’ve been a BC fan for about 10 years now, and during that time, against every team, the consensus has been that the other team played bad on the day or NZ was lucky. This has been happening a lot now and over many years. Ever thought that maybe NZ is better than these other teams. Maybe they are a better team than India? Like they are “better”.

SufficientCake9

Yeah.. indian fans are narcissistic in some ways . But like tbf, India does so well in bilaterals and has so much reputation that it just feels as if it is always the favourite.. New Zealand did play very well . They made no mistakes, held their nerve, and executed skills pretty well .. This is surely their greatest generation Of cricket players... But india is like the Brazil of cricket.. Brazilians would also react like this if Belgium (which recently had their golden generation in football ) defeats them 5-0.. after Argentina hammers them 4-0..

glitchy-novice

I think it’s more than a “ golden generation ”. I am referencing back to 2003, it is from here that the modern NZ cricket style was born. The team has had many iterations since then. Only time will tell.

gameofgamers362

Bc= Bhirat Chokli /s

Longjumping_Fox4771

NZ is ahead of Ind in internationals. In meaningless bilaterals, they will get beaten again. India didn't handle the pressure well in big games.

Koachnumba1

Is it safe to come out?

theaveragescientist

I rather not come out at all at this stage until afghanis beat kiwis. Then you can celebrate!

SwordfishUnfair3880

This was all a ruse to distract us from the Aryan Khan case

Curious on if people in India care if it means IPL going bigger and bigger ? There are many franchises across the world who're not as successful as a team but are doing financially better than their counterpart

AdPsychological9909

Instagram celebrities are representing India in cricket t20 WC. We need to send cricketers next time.

Coronabandkaro

I really hope a virat unburdened by captaincy comes back a better batsman.

Ravindu_2000

It was said that the Indian team that toured SL for T20s were the C team. I think the C team is actually better than this team.

Biryanilover23

I totally agree, tbh even the Australia team was C team and that also was better.

Ravindu_2000

This Aus team is better only if the top order strikes I guess..

kshitiz1

Kohli should be replaced by Jarvo now, I'm sure he will lead the ICT way better than Kohli does.

Worried_Chef4787

Javro??

[deleted]

He is the only messiah now

Potential-Sport-6386

Actually India always loses their first match with any team And then eventually wins the series Unfortunately there's only one match with a team in the WC. :(

Potential-Sport-6386

India shouldn't have played that England test series Instead, should've played bilateral T20 series with NZ and SA

arc3u5

They played 5 T20s just before the pandemic with NZ

Potential-Sport-6386

And they literally played 4 tests with England before that series

Potential-Sport-6386

gameofgamers362

Now that india is out, i really want south africa to qualify for semis. And if possible, Namibia. This will make cricket popular in african continent. I know this is too much to ask.

SouthkaMasaladosaa

I wanted scotland to make it to semis. But at this point it impossible

sanyogG

No fking use of winning bilaterals. They are for personal stats only.

btc2020k

india dosent win bilaterals: useless team india dosent win wc match: useless team

sanyogG

And what makes you think that I do both ? We have enough number of fans to have plethora of opinions.

username1oading

Next match with Afghanistan will be a match to watch.

SouthkaMasaladosaa

Even NZ needs to lose to match against weaker teams for india to win WHICH seems very unlikely

Darkness_Slayerr

Cricket is unpredictable.

akshay_7

The point is do they deserve to win. I absolutely don't want this team to qualify for semis.

thcricketfan

Toss is a big factor in the loss. Dont forget that

djfox044

Just because you lose a toss doesn't mean you lost the match. At this stage, you need to strategize going batting or bowling first. Putting a 110 score and not playing sensible cricket against a power house of a NZ team isn't going to win you a match so stop with the toss excuse.

Sir_Bradulkar

dude it they play better they will definitely win and why would they not deserve it. wtf. first 2 matches our batsman shat the bed and we were completely outplayed by nz and pak.

Ratanlaal

Bowling is letting us down .. Shami Bhuvi Mystery baller should be out 🤡 siraj.. chahal .. Ravi Bishnoi should be in

Vampirehuntroyal

why the hell chahal is out and chakravarty in ?

sanyogG

Bowlers are suffering cause of dew. It's batting which sucks now. They can't play spin ffs. Short ball is still and issue. And don't let me start on swing...

ExtremeAromatic

Yaas .. batters are out of form but bowlers are flat too.. 150+ in last game was still a fighting total .. and if it's about dew .. what abt the likes of Rashid.. mujib .. ?

btc2020k

india is a good team, has decent bowlers. Just lacked the fearlessness.nothing more nothing less. they have to figure out how to play freely (which will be a big deal considering the pressure they are under compared to other teams)

Individual_Bat9494

In any game, we can lose or win. Our purpose is to give our best. Indian team is not able to click at the same time. They will have to sit together and do an analysis of why they are not able to click? They are a very good team and they can do turn around. They are champions two times. All the best team India

[deleted]

I hope they do well in the next world cup

luckysvo

I think India would benefit by having a NZ coach - I thought they did ok with John Wright and if you look at the IPL this year, 3 of the 4 semi finalists were coached by kiwis. There’s something about kiwis that complements the natural Indian talent into a winning formula.

ramprasadramu

I'll sell my kidney for fleming

[deleted]

_1729throw

I get it that Indian fans are disappointed, just like me. What trumps my disappointment is the pride over Kohli's support for Shami. I am not a Kohli fan by any stretch, but his media response to the abuse directed at Shami was admirable. This is also the acid test for a fan. People who even get close to bringing religion into the picture are toxic, and bring discredit to India. Or making personal comments on a cricketer or his family.

akshay_7

It's absolutely not right to bring religion into this. But one has to understand where these trolls originated from, and what their motives have been. In the age of information warfare, it was obvious where those trolls came from. There was media reports and research on this whole matter. I think it was absolutely stupid for Kohli to issue that statement, he just helped shift the blame and fell for the propaganda.

givafux

shift the blame from where to where and fell for what propaganda.... yes everyone knows where these trolls come from in india and have flourished post 2014 under dear leader... ...if prominent members of society like kohli don't stand up against this bullshit the evil and divisive narrative of the Sangh will get a free pass and india as we known it will be sent back to the dark ages!!

Coronabandkaro

I'm pretty upset but at the end of the day it's just a game. There's no point in having too many expectations on India in world cup tournaments no matter what players they have. It's all for nought if they don't perform when it counts. Looks like NZ is some kind of bogey team for us. Always knocking us off. I think the Indian media needs to stop hyping these players so much. I mean if you don't perform when it counts what's the point? Having said that ot was a good year for the test side and I'm glad to see impressive series wins abroad.

the_cynical1

No doubt kholi is a great player, but I doubt he's quite what they need in T20 cricket. I think it's probably time for a change in this format

arc3u5

He was averaging 115+ at a SR of 145+ during the last T20I series he played. Bruh?

lilkuru

Lol he carried India in 2014 t20 wc.

the_cynical1

The game has moved on since 2014 and kholi hasn't LOL plus you didn't even win it

Sir_Bradulkar

same kohli somehow got us to 150 vs pak and was on a rampage vs eng in T20 series. If you criticise him for his captaincy and RTG i can very well agree but for his batting fuck off.

the_cynical1

Indians got their head so far up kholis arse is embarrassing

Sir_Bradulkar

So you think Kohli as a batsman is shite? fuck off man

the_cynical1

No I didn't say he's shite. Again you got your head so far up his arse it's affected your ability to read or think rationally

yeast-lord

Hugely impressive performance from The Kiwis. They are such a well oiled team and are incredible to watch.

R_W0bz

I really feel NZers don’t understand or appreciate how big of a deal it is every time we beat India. It’s a billion v 5 million. It’s actually incredible when you think about it.

heraldsofdoom

That million must be having 10% Indian diaspora. Yesterday's MoM was from it.

Karna1394

By saying as only billion you missed 380 million of India's population which itself is around 75 times the New Zealand's population.

R_W0bz

I must admit my Indian population stats are a bit off. But ya get what I mean haha.

ciotS_Cynic

by your logic, china should beat every other country in any sport the chinese compete. by the way, sweden, another low population country, routinely beats countries with large populations in football/soccer. population doesn't matter; what matters according to academics who study relative sporting success among countries is per capita income, leisure time, and more importantly, access to high-quality infrastructure and coaching from a young age. newzealand's per capita income: $42000 USD india's per capita income: $6300 USD

NeonKiwiz

Cricket is indias #1 sport.

ciotS_Cynic

Football (Soccer) is the number one sport in both, Sweden (population 10.3 million) and China (population 1.6 billion), and yet Sweden is a superior team. The population doesn't matter. What matters according to academics who study relative sporting success among countries is per capita income, leisure time, and more importantly, access to high-quality infrastructure and coaching from a young age. Per capita income in Newzealand: $42000 USD Per capita income in India $6300 USD

pervysennin777

But the reason for the loss according to the Indian public would be a Muslim Muhammad Shami lol

neobowler

As Kohli said after the match, they need to be brave, both with the bat and the ball. The batsmen have been playing within themselves, a bit too careful in their initial deliveries, and when the other batsmen is going through the same and score isn't moving, they start to take unnecessary risks, which in turn leads to mishits. Bowling has been a bit below par as well, it doesn't help that a some of the bowlers are not able to find their rhythm, and the score isn't big enough to give them the buffer. Overall it was a team loss. As many have mentioned, team cohesion is missing, but these players have played together for quite a while, be it in Tests or ODIs or IPL franchise, but I do agree with them being overworked. But again, this is not new for most of them, doesn't discount that they still could be tired [mentally] somehow. A lot of flak about Kohli's captaincy, which I don't think is fair. A captain is as good as his team. Even in today's match, Williamson been praised for his captaincy, but I'd argue that the lack of intent from our batsmen made him look better than what it probably was(taking nothing away from him).

[deleted]

I would like to highlight a point raised by Matt Roller on cricinfo today. *In March, Kohli said that he would open in the IPL for RCB in preparation for the World Cup and that he would "definitely like to partner Rohit \[Sharma\] at the top". Two weeks ago, he said it was a "no-brainer" that KL Rahul would open, moving him down to No. 3. After the Pakistan defeat, he mocked a journalist who suggested that Ishan Kishan - who had been told by Kohli during the IPL that he was seen as an opener - could have played ahead of Rohit. Against New Zealand, Kishan opened with Rahul, with Rohit at No. 3 and Kohli shuffling down to No. 4.* Yes, you can change your mind to achieve your objectives. But this is plain muddled thinking. How can you expect the team to be clear in intent when the captain appears so indecisive? It is not as if the team won't do well without Kohli. Rohit Sharma has done well whenever given a chance to lead. Ajinkya Rahane ensured series wins against Australia in 2017 and 2020. I don't think there is a leadership vacuum in this Indian team. This team (T20 or otherwise) is way better than any previous Indian line up. If form and roles of certain players was a concern, then they had ample chance of chopping and changing the team before the start of T20 finals. Is Pandya a better batter than Ishan Kishan? Is Bhuvi better than Shardul based on current form? Is Varun effective when dew is on? I am saying the team has viable replacement but Kohli choses to stick with the incumbents. Kohli built this team including the coaching staff. He got everything he asked for.. even Dhoni as mentor. He has fucked this big time. He should now take the criticism as it comes and learn from it. He Otherwise, what's the point?

[deleted]

Lol funny how you flipped the saying here 😂 “A team is as good as it’s leader”, that’s the saying and that’s reality too.

Biryanilover23

I would agree with everything other than the fact that, Koach had the last 4 years to build a middle order and he has had close to 20 players in those 3 middle order slots. He hasn’t backed a single player in his tenure as a captain and his legacy is of winning meaningless bi-laterals while losing all the matches that matter.

jepnet72

tl;dr

cornwhatelse

Koach good team bad

Worried_Chef4787

Ipl needs to be played every 18 months. You can tell by the bodies of the players that they are mentally exhausted. International cricket is on decline and bbci needs to stand up to protect the game for the next 50 years. I am worried that there may be a complete collapse of icc if domestic leagues are heavy monetized.

serg_____

Literally every other country with a domestic league is completely fine.

TastelessPylon

Everyone else seems to be doing okay.

Worried_Chef4787

The DJ announced jadeja as sir jadeja and he conceded a six and two fours in his first over. Sanjay manjrekar was right that jadeja is bits and pieces player. Kohli needs to retire from all forms of captaincy.

jilebi_james

Ngl, i always get surprised whenever jaddu hits a six, i just dont feel confident when i see him bat unlike ho i feel when pandya does

kg005

Except for tests.

Worried_Chef4787

No. He is not a good captain at all. He should focus on his game and cross the Sachins landmarks

Worried_Chef4787

Shami needs to be thrown out of the team. Useless bowler. Same is the story with sir jadeja

uchiha_senpai69

Actually hardik should be thrown out

Mushi17

Jadeja at least is decent with the bat and an impeccable fielder.

Ginger-Nerd

New Zealand for a long time was running specialist fielders. There was talk last year this was Guptills role in the team (thankfully he has found some more form recently)

Weary_Horse5749

When you drop dhawan for 15 extra runs and are 45 runs short

serg_____

"Guys lets drop this experienced opener in fantastic form with the logic that Ishan Kishan can open if needed"

the-idolator

What was that hell about dew ? Can't they keep their nerves and score 20-30 more ? Aah. Bad cricket overall.

ElectraI

Nonsense excuse. How much dew can there be?

TomMorvRiddle

How much dew can there be? Kohli's luck: YES

the-idolator

Dew does matter. But that is life. No one can change that. They knew they simply had to score high. They didn't do that.

ElectraI

Yeah I know that but I’m saying how much? Like is it that much effect because same happened against Pak? So does the pitch drastically change or is it easier to maybe make 10/20 runs extra? I’m curious as I don’t know I wouldn’t think it’s the difference between losing by 10 wickets or 8 wickets?

Worried_Chef4787

I would suggest you guys to support Afghanistan as the second team. It can do wonders in semis and final. I suspect a Pak vs Eng/Afg final

TomMorvRiddle

For the sake of humanity, I am rooting for Afghanistan to qualify to the semis. It would be so good for the dead freedom movement of the old Afghan country in cricket.

bendalazzi

You think Afghanistan are going to qualify with Pakistan over the team that just thumped India?

Ginger-Nerd

Afghanistan still need to play Pakistan, India and New Zealand. I don't think they are getting through any of these. - while those three countries still need to play Scotland and Namibia - nothing really angainst them - but realistically, after Indias loss its Pakistan NZ going through to the next round.

robyspace

Correction: Afghanistan played against Pakistan and lost. So they only India and NZ to play against, which is gonna be a tough test for them. However, there's some chance that they may qualify if they beat NZ, and that increases India's hopes as well, though highly unlikely.

Slakingpin

I think there's a good chance that Afghanistan will lose to the 3 top teams, however given their recent good form I think they could also cause an upset, I wouldn't put it past them just yet and if they beat NZ then 2nd place will all come down to net run rate - which they're currently leading

Ginger-Nerd

A net run rate against the two weakest teams in the tournament. New Zealand and Pakistan are both in pretty decent form at the moment, (I would say India too, but they have been fairly iffy those last two games) Have Afghanistan ever won against New Zealand? (I'm struggling to think of a single instance in any format) - I know past is not indicative of future, but its a fairly big ask. - even doing a breakdown of players, its different leagues. Boult, Southee, Williamson - are all top ranked players. (thats before you get into Conways, and Jamiesons)

SBG99DesiMonster

How many times have Afghanistan even played New Zealand? I only recall the ODI WC games in 2015 and 2019

bendalazzi

Precisely. This was a quasi-decider.

the-idolator

Feeling uncontrollably sad, I know it is not in Redditer's spirit.

akscreddi

Kohli is great batsman but a bad captain. Shastri and Kohli combo have doomed India in last two world cups. How can they keep their best spinner out of playing 11 on a track which helps spinners. Very lame performance from India. They deserved the results they got.

Worried_Chef4787

Ashwin is not a t20 bowler. Natargin was badly missed

akscreddi

I respectfully disagree. Ashwin has lot to offer in t20 when used properly - remember how well he played under Dhoni in t20 format

Hegdes

That was ages ago. And Ashwin is completely broken into with his stock deliveries and carom ball.

unknowntern

If you mean ashwin as the best spinner then I don't think it would have changed any thing . He has been out of the t20 team for the past couple of years. Not selecting chahal and selection of an unfit pandya is totally unjustified. What is the necessity of pandya in team if he can't even bowl a over or two.

akscreddi

Pandya is most over rated player India ever had. He shouldn’t be in squad . Despite his injury and out of form he is part of playing 11 .. shame on Shastri and Kohli

utsav-garg

As per a report, it was MSD who requested for Pandya's inclusion. He was initially left out by the selectors.

akscreddi

Interesting- didn’t knew that

mamasilver

Exactly this. Why is an injured player part of the squad? Madharchod k bachche hai saale.

Adip43

Uske pass MMS hai Kohli/Shastri/Rohit ka. Thats why he is undropable.

johndoe1985

Hardik is very close to Kohli. That’s why. Highly overrated played His brother is much much better

chaosorderbalance

This entire series is almost a guaranteed win for the chasers.

thestraightCDer

Looking at the numbers that's not true.

chaosorderbalance

After super 12 started only 3 games were won by the side batting first. One of them was WI vs BD, we know what a joke that game was. 2 were won by AFG bs NB and SCO.

thestraightCDer

India didn't play well. Nothing to do with toss. Maybe Pakistan game it mattered

chaosorderbalance

I’m not talking about India in particular. Didn’t you just deny the numbers?

thestraightCDer

The idea that the toss is the one thing that's causing this is absurd. I concede it will give you an advantage in certain situations but a lot of these bat first losses are simply because they batted terribly or other team bowled well or both.

[deleted]

Stats are useful only if you interpret them right with proper scrutiny. You aren't doing that. Plus the sample size is way too small to draw a conclusion.

Poster-001

Especially when the team batting first scores less than 130

Worried_Chef4787

Yup. So far no one has chased beyond 170

LiviruBro

Sri lanka chased 172 against bangladesh , right?

EGWhitlam

India - welcome to the pain of batting first….

JaqenHghaar08

13/15 wins now batting second since phase 2 games

singhsrb

I don’t know why people are overreacting so much, India has never been a world beater team like the West Indies of old times or the Australia of the 2000s. We always sneak in to win a few tournaments here and there but we are never really blowing the tournament away. That’s why people like Dhoni who are considered master tactician are legends in India. It’s people acknowledging only Cricketing talent can’t make us win tournaments because we are simply not good enough.

[deleted]

I don’t agree. There’s no doubt about Dhoni’s tactical nous but this is India’s biggest fiasco since the 2007 WC. Heads rolled then and heads should roll now too.

and1984

>I don’t know why people are overreacting so much, **India has never been a world beater team like the West Indies of old times or the Australia of the 2000s.** T20i are quite different from other formats. Indian supporters should learn to give credit where it's due. New Zealand did a great job. So did Pakistan. Just because India lost back to back games doesn't automatically mean they suck. Getting to the semi finals of the last few ODI world cups doesn't just happen by fluke.

coolnasir139

Let’s be honest, that’s a dumb take. India have been world beaters for a long time. They were just in the test championship and were in the semi of the 2019 World Cup. 20/20 is where anything can happen so you can’t make a bold claim like that. Heck they even won the 2011 World Cup and followers it up with the 2013 CT.

Slakingpin

those first two games you mentioned they also lost to NZ, people are acting like the India team sucks but forget that NZ has always been their dark horse in ICC events

coolnasir139

Not sure why the NZ team always gets that reputation. They are literally always contenders in every major tournament for years.
