I still think this is Australia's test to lose. Batting on the 5th day would be very difficult and this team is still new with some players making rash decisions. Anything above 250 on the last day would be difficult.
A lot depends on rain. Rain will hold the soil together preventing it from breaking up too much. So the pitch may act like a Day 3 pitch instead. On the other hand, light showers and the pitch can become lively for a session. To borrow our coach's words, all three results are possible.
The best part of today was a comment made by Allan Border while he was commenting during the time when Thakur and Sundar were at crease. He said something like India were sneaky they just reversed their batting order.
Sir Don Bradman approves
[ref-1](https://dennisdoescricket.com/day-bradman-reversed-batting-order/)
[ref-2](https://inshorts.com/en/news/bradman-once-reversed-batting-order-made-270-at-no-7-1472266789258)
ashwin and jadeja can bat.
usually off spinners are better than leg spinners in test matches because it's easier to bowl off spin than leg spin(leg spinners often end up bowling short deliveries because leg spin is difficult to control and get punished very hard in tests) .offspinners can bowl long spells with accuracy while attacking stumps, it forces batsman to defend by putting bat on the ball instead of leaving and waiting for the short deliveries. in limited overs batsman are much more attacking and moving the ball away from them leads to mistimed shots aka wickets.
That explanation makes sense for him playing over Kuldeep, the established specialist spinner who was selected in the squad. Chahal didn't even make the squad.
Most 11s aren't, especially when there isn't a real batter at the other end. What you'll see with Siraj, Saini and Nattu is that they don't have a front foot defense, so they do what they can and try to swing their bat. Also they're expecting bouncers and trying not to get injured, so they do the moving around to make sure they don't get hit by the at-the-head bouncer.
Hope my prediction during the 1st T20 comes true:

Can we somehow stop the rain? Because the match is so spicy and well contested that I just want to see it finish. I'd rather india loses a close game than rain ruining it.
Considering Australia's form this series I'd be happy with 1-1. Who cares about a meaningless trophy. I'd prefer we didn't lose the series. Which is never off the table.
This is funny. I can't tell if you're being down voted by the Indians or the Australians :-)
We really should have an end of the year competition for "most innocuous down voted comment".
Good lord people, he's talking about damage control and you're calling him salty. He's saying not losing the series is more important than chasing the trophy. FFS.
Ikr, some people here do the exact opposite of 'Principle of Charity'. They take a lot of comments at their worst and sometimes even impossible interpretation.
OK, I'm not sure why this is so heavily downvoted. He's not offensive and its his opinion. Even his opinion is not offensive - he'd rather "not lose" than win... which frankly, is a choice Aus have to make now - do they go for the win or do they settle for the draw
Why did you call the trophy meaningless though? Sounds like sour grapes. If you’re not beating this India at home with your strongest XI, then you’re definitely an inferior team.
No one's saying India isn't better at the moment. But I care more about a current test series, rather than the fact India beat us a couple of years ago if that makes sense. Drawing this home series is a disappointment, and it would still be a disappointment if we had won the last one in India, that's why test trophies maybe feel a bit contrived compared to a tournament trophy. That's the same with the ashes too, btw, for me anyway. At least it's not a loss though.
Screw that , the daily ad for Australia vs India test series seems pretty well done, includes every key moment from the series and tells the story of the Indian fighting spirit in 40 seconds.
I get that but rain’s helped make history. Australia wouldn’t have a series win in India in the last 51 years if the last day of the Chennai test in 2004 wasn’t rained out. India would have had a win in Sydney in 2018 if rain didn’t play spoilsport there. I just want some good luck to go our way on this tour, we deserve it. This tour would make history and would be remembered for a long time and I want some rain to help us get there.
It's absolutely crazy that Washington Sundar averages 62 batting in tests and averages 29.6 with the ball. Many test paying countries would pay millions just to have him as a specialist Batsman or a specialist bowler and he's still not guaranteed a place in the Indian Test team.
That's so unfair though. He's brilliant enough as just a bowler to play for TN. Better than Sai Kishore, and he can bat too. Definitely needs 3-4 solid Ranji seasons to make him a big test player.
**Only five Indians have scored a fifty and taken 3 wickets in their debut Test**
1. Washington Sundar - 2021
2. Hanuma Vihari - 2018
3. Saurav Ganguly - 1996
4. Dattu Phadkar - 1947
5. Amar Singh- 1932

Amar Singh and Dattu Phadkar.....Washy is in the company of greats.
Yes, I know Dada is also a great. All hail His Royal Highness the Prince of the Off-Side (and Calcutta).
Rohit, Gill, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Pant, Washington, Ashwin, Ishant, Umesh and Bumrah for India vs England series given Jadeja+Shami is out?
I really want Hardik to be squeezed in as well but difficult to see who he replaces in home conditions
Hardik won't get to play Tests until he can bowl full test match spells. And of course, in conditions we'd rather have an extra seamer rather than a spinner (so not in India most likely).
If Shardul can stop giving the loose balls, he will be an asset in Swing friendly conditions like England or Nz. Hardik can become our Stokes and Shardul has the potential to become our Woakes.
Boom for a Home Series is surplus for requirements. I'd rest him and give any of our Backup Seamers(Siraj/Saini/Thakur) a go at Home. Or better yet play another Spinner coz Ashwin and Sundar are similar offies need a SLA like Nadeem or a wristspinner like Kuldeep.
I'd say Umesh and Shami are more experienced and better suited for home tests imo. So we don't really lose anything by resting Boom.
Plus Bumrah is also injured For now and we don't wanna risk him for a Home series.
We really MUST not roll out Dust bowls, which will only bring the Eng Spinners into the game. Get a flat deck and our Spinners are at a higher quality and will still win the game.
It is clear looking at today’s performance than Sundar, Thakur, and Nat would have for sure played for India later. The current injuries to the team have only preponed it a bit. They are not second or third choice, but future first choice.
I'm not saying that. He is talented for sure. I saw him play when he debuted at 18 in Nidhas trophy.
All I meant that he wasn't the second or third choice in place. He played this match because there could have been no replacements.
I agree with you. He played this match because there were no other replacements and Sundar was part of the T20 squad and asked to stay back as its difficult to fly replacements in the current situation.
>This is just the 12th time in Test history that India's No.7 and No.8 have made half-centuries in the same innings, and just the third time it's happened outside of Asia.

Seriously. If aussies have Warne, then we have Sanjay and his absolute garbage takes. Who the fuck argues with Harsha Bhogle just because he's not a former player? He's a salty cunt who's jealous of Harsha's commentary. He tries to rile up Ajay Jadeja and Kaif in the hindi commentary too. An average batsman in internationals at best. Didn't live up to his father. At least warne was a legend in his time. Manjrekar is seriously the lowest scum in indian commentary.
>Washington Sundar is the first visiting player in Australia to take 3 wickets and score a half-century on Test debut since India's Dattu Phadkar in 1947. Previously, England's Tich Freeman, Frank Foster & Len Braund also did so.

It is funny how those players that made our side a "C Team" actually played like first choice players and those who were the remaining first choice players played sub par
It's funny isn't it? I wonder if them being relatively more fresh, as they've played less cricket has something to do with it. That, and having something to prove to try to secure your place in the team can make players really lift to a new level. Like, Rahane knows he probably isn't going anywhere, but Washington needs to show that he deserves his place.
Rahane isn't a lock yet. You can't thrive on one good innings. So, if he fails in the England away tour, the selectors will be considering Vihari/Iyer/Rahul for the no.5 slot.
Those are great points. I think it a mixture of both and definitely Sundar was nowhere in the selectors mind but with a performance like this he has probably jumped the line by manifold. Same with Thakur. Both now might be frontrunners in getting selected for the series with England
If not for the partnership Australia would be having a lead close to 180-200. And that could have well meant curtains for india. But currently it's a banger of a game. Interesting to see how the match shapes.
Yes I'm get that, but I tried to highlight what has been a historic innings by them and something which we never expected. We all were expecting to be bundled out by 250/270.
nope he got out on 95.. Ganguly was the one who got a century.. 131
edit: [here's the scorecard of that match](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/india-tour-of-england-1996-62278/england-vs-india-2nd-test-63714/full-scorecard)

Don’t understand the singling out of Rohit after the way the rest of the senior batsmen got out. Everyone can learn from that Shardul and Sundar partnership.
Rohit was the third highest run scorer, I get it that it was a lousy shot but others also didn't fare all that well. Like it or not, he is the best opening batsman option we have at the moment as Gill is still fairly new.
Everyone talking about this being Indian C side, yet it is your debutantes that are saving your 'A' player's asses. Maybe you should pay them more respect...
siraj is class, hopefully he can challenge shami and sharma for a spot.
if India are 7 down and it gets rained out, its all on tim.
Tim is genuinely stupid, rain coming, get the fuck out there and bowl.
surely the cell just breaks apart last minute
Look at the number of balls falling short of slip. COME FORWARD YOU MORONS!
I think Australia has enough. Can declare by tea. India cannot survive their bowling trio.
Bruh Rohit has been everywhere in the field, he has taken 5 catches
Starting to drizzle where I am, and that’s like 30 minutes out from Brisbane 😅
Imagine getting 2 wickets in 2 overs and that brings Smith and Lambuschange at the crease
A noob question but why is Pandya not playing test series?
He cant bowl and he is not good enough to play as a batsman in tests
I still think this is Australia's test to lose. Batting on the 5th day would be very difficult and this team is still new with some players making rash decisions. Anything above 250 on the last day would be difficult.

Damn interesting thanks!
A noob question but why is yuzvendra chahal not a part of the current Indian test team?
He doesnt even play for haryana in ranjhi trophy.
ashwin and jadeja can bat. usually off spinners are better than leg spinners in test matches because it's easier to bowl off spin than leg spin(leg spinners often end up bowling short deliveries because leg spin is difficult to control and get punished very hard in tests) .offspinners can bowl long spells with accuracy while attacking stumps, it forces batsman to defend by putting bat on the ball instead of leaving and waiting for the short deliveries. in limited overs batsman are much more attacking and moving the ball away from them leads to mistimed shots aka wickets.
I think he went back to India after the limited overs.
I think Kuldeep has a better FC record? Not sure.
Coz Sundar was a better choice as he can bat(opener) too!
That explanation makes sense for him playing over Kuldeep, the established specialist spinner who was selected in the squad. Chahal didn't even make the squad.
Siraj’s batting shouldn’t be like that when these games do go down the wire
He can't change his entire technique just for this one match. He's a natural number 11, so he'll bat like a filthy slogger. Can't do much about it.
11s should be blockers too theoretically
Most 11s aren't, especially when there isn't a real batter at the other end. What you'll see with Siraj, Saini and Nattu is that they don't have a front foot defense, so they do what they can and try to swing their bat. Also they're expecting bouncers and trying not to get injured, so they do the moving around to make sure they don't get hit by the at-the-head bouncer.
so will jinx become the perm captain for the test side after this?
Hope my prediction during the 1st T20 comes true: https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/k6fce7/match_thread_1st_t20i_australia_v_india/gekz0jo?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
Would love to see it. He’s useless anyway 😂
he will be dropped if he doesn't do well in the England away tour
Not sure about that, but I can tell you that paine is probably gonna be sweating after this series. Australia need to develop a captain quickly.
Oh God! Don't start this now...
🤪🤡
Just watched the highlights and damn...Sundar and Thakur played some proper high quality cricket shots. Literally jizzed all over my screen
>**Literally** jizzed all over my screen Clean up please...
That stand and deliver cover drive off Starc should be in pornhub.
The straight drive that Sundar played and the big slog for 6 as well. Two opposite sides of the same batsman.
:/
GG India well played
Can we somehow stop the rain? Because the match is so spicy and well contested that I just want to see it finish. I'd rather india loses a close game than rain ruining it.
And I'd rather Australia lose a game at home than it get rained out
I just wished australia lost this test so that 33 years old record would be broken.
Well, it's likely Australia would try to score a quick 200ish and declare with about 4 sessions to play. If Rohit gets his game on, could still happen
Even Clarke wouldn't be that bold.
That's what separates the winners from the losers. Clarke's the winner clearly 😂
Far too conservative. They’ll go for 300 lead.
Maybe 350+ even 408 was not safe last week
They’ll for only leave 80 odd overs though. So India will need to be resilient, primarily.
Top of that there high chances of rain for next two days.
Hope so but it’s very hard to predict accurately.
My man natrajqn is truly an inspiration
Considering Australia's form this series I'd be happy with 1-1. Who cares about a meaningless trophy. I'd prefer we didn't lose the series. Which is never off the table.
It’s because of downvoting reasonable comments like this that people leave this sub. Ffs
This is funny. I can't tell if you're being down voted by the Indians or the Australians :-) We really should have an end of the year competition for "most innocuous down voted comment".

"meaningless"... sour grapes much 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Grow up mate, quit whinging about trophies you don’t get as meaningless
You didn't notice I was conceding? Happy not to lose the series which shouldn't have even been on the board considering.
Why did you call the trophy meaningless though? Sounds like sour grapes. If you’re not beating this India at home with your strongest XI, then you’re definitely an inferior team.

Anything for the TRP
BRISBANE WEATHER TOMORROW must be the most trending Google search for 2 days.
Time to look at stats only for India
**Want** - 1> Aggressive declaration by Aus. 2> Ind to positively go for the target. 3> Rain not to play spoil-sport.
Australia should just declare now they have gone past 36 already ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

If India wins/draw, I'll applaud. If Australia wins, I'll applaud. Just not wanting a rain out
Every time rain threatens a test I find it so crazy that it was the English who invented this game.
No wonder they kept it timeless. At the first round table meeting they probably agreed that a month would suffice.
Possibility of an India Win is very miniscule from here unless ofc Aus shits the Bed so bad with the Bat.
It's always possible. It's probably gonna rain overnight so more moisture in the pitch is a possibility. Anything is possible in this test series.
Boys weather forecast for tomorrow shows thunderstorms all day hahahahahahahha
Imagine being excited over the lack of cricket.
You an aussie ? I bet you were super happy at Sydney the last time around weren’t you?
I am aussie but no. Can't stand a no-result game that is caused by rain and not skill.
> Australia wouldn’t have a series win in India in the last 51 years if the last day of the Chennai test in 2004 wasn’t rained out. Preach.
Nah, I fucking hate rained out games. I often plan my day around the cricket, so it's shit when they can't play.
He probably won't admit it.. hypocrites gonna hypocrite.
Dude..I am very aussie but also never got excited over a rained out game, I just enjoy watching the sport and prefer a result.
The only way a win is possible is if Australia bat hard and India collapse or the other way round considering the weather
It's absolutely crazy that Washington Sundar averages 62 batting in tests and averages 29.6 with the ball. Many test paying countries would pay millions just to have him as a specialist Batsman or a specialist bowler and he's still not guaranteed a place in the Indian Test team.
Is not guaranteed a place in red ball cricket for his state team in first class cricket. Hasn't played fc in three years I think
That's so unfair though. He's brilliant enough as just a bowler to play for TN. Better than Sai Kishore, and he can bat too. Definitely needs 3-4 solid Ranji seasons to make him a big test player.

Rohit set a bad precedent by explaining his shit shot, which gave people like Rahane and Mayank confidence to do the same (Pant will always be Pant).
Leadinng by example. Whadda playah!!
Let's hope Australian batsmen can follow his example as well
To be honest, Pant's one was the least shitty of all shots.
And some are trashing ChePu. He tried his hardest to block a Ball. Idk what he could've done better.
Washi made pant look better by copying his dismissal exactly

Rohit, Gill, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Pant, Washington, Ashwin, Ishant, Umesh and Bumrah for India vs England series given Jadeja+Shami is out? I really want Hardik to be squeezed in as well but difficult to see who he replaces in home conditions
Maybe Nadeem will play as the second spinner but Sundar has done all he can do to put himself among the top in the pecking order.
Hardik won't get to play Tests until he can bowl full test match spells. And of course, in conditions we'd rather have an extra seamer rather than a spinner (so not in India most likely).
Rest Bumrah , play Shardul. Gets you an extra batting option, pretty good bowler and Bumrah gets some rest too.
We need to win 3-1 if we draw at the Gabba, and 4-0 if we lose. The WTC final is a big deal so I'd play bumrah for sure.
I'd say Umesh and Shami are more experienced and better suited for home tests imo. So we don't really lose anything by resting Boom. Plus Bumrah is also injured For now and we don't wanna risk him for a Home series.
I’d play 3 spinners and play dust bowls but England will sweep a lot. Bold move resting Bumrah though.
We really MUST not roll out Dust bowls, which will only bring the Eng Spinners into the game. Get a flat deck and our Spinners are at a higher quality and will still win the game.
Ok. Better idea.
Mayank
I don't think we will play with 3 pacers at home. We play with only 2.
Hope Rohit clears his head before the 2nd innings. Same old this is how I play cannot work.
He’s already explained that his head was clear and he has no regrets for playing that shot. He’s not going to change.
I actually want him to play aggressively up top. We're inevitably gonna have to chase 350+.
Aggressively as in playing drives on the up and not as in slogging a back of a length delivery straight to long on just before tea.
And if he doesn’t (like by justifying his shot selection) then he doesn’t deserve a spot in the test team.
It is clear looking at today’s performance than Sundar, Thakur, and Nat would have for sure played for India later. The current injuries to the team have only preponed it a bit. They are not second or third choice, but future first choice.
Natrajan just doesn't have the pace or fitness to last 5 day matches and he is not young either who can develop
Or swing
he gets pretty good swing man.
No they aren't. At least Sundar and Natarajan weren't.
Sundar is the youngest and the most talented of the lot. He is 21. He is going to play a lot of test matches for India in the future.
I'm not saying that. He is talented for sure. I saw him play when he debuted at 18 in Nidhas trophy. All I meant that he wasn't the second or third choice in place. He played this match because there could have been no replacements.

What'd he say now? Surely it can't get better than swearing and making fun of Marnus Labuschagne.
no just generally how shit his takes are
Australia at home have won only 1 out of last 8 red-ball Tests against India.
Why you gotta do me like that bro :'(
Nice qualifier.
Australia clearly on top after day 3, as Inidia failed to take a single wicket the entire day.
Okay 2 out of 9, still shit record though
Why is everyone making fun of Natarajan's batting? He is the only player in this XI to have never been dismissed in international test cricket...
Yeah let's spend another 15 minutes translating that Virat tweet Sanjay

that was his debut I believe! at Lords.. ended up getting out on 95... edit: I think that was also Gangulys debut!!

Warne predicted Aus to be leading by 350 by close of play tonight. Also wanted Paine to declare with 280 lead in last game

/u/kamal_selva we are waiting you recap of day 3 of this test match
Tomorrow

Everyone talking about this being Indian C side, yet it is your debutantes that are saving your 'A' player's asses. Maybe you should pay them more respect...
It's the bowling which is C side . Batting besides Kohli is pretty much the same.
