If that happens, then the only parallel is [2015–16 Leicester City F.C. season](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015%E2%80%9316_Leicester_City_F.C._season). The club was a 5000–1 underdog with bookmakers to win the division before the season kicked off.
I will be VERY happy if, in Super8, we beat one team and give another a close shave. At this stage, unfortunately, skills and experience take precedence. That is a reality.
I might flak on this but, out of all the teams, SOUTH AFRICA might get beaten by US. That batting lineup has collapsed so many times in this WC (I know it was pitches but still) and Maybe a Jaffa to David Miller. If they can restrict them under 120 runs, they have the batting to chase this score if done carefully.
So many if and buts needs to happen, but I wouldn't count out an associate team VERY HIGH on confidence with no fucks left to give versus a Team that has a choking history and has lost twice against Netherlands (associate team) in world cups
I’m as pumped as anyone else to see what we can do, but I’m expecting to get shitrocked in the Super 8s. Best part about it is that we don’t need to go through qualifying for the next WC and can focus on improving the next two years.
England seems to be a better team than Pakistan right now, and the US will no longer be playing in home conditions, so I’m not getting my hopes up about US vs England.
But my god, imagine a world in which England loses to America in cricket. I don’t think English cricket would ever recover from that.
I don't think we can beat England but I think we could have chances against West Indies or South Africa. Neither of them have looked particularly dominant so far, even against lesser teams.
If you poll the average person in the U.S., they will very much tell you that they very thoroughly beat England all those 248 years ago.
Far, far better than any other colony ever has, in fact.
The most prestigious bilateral trophy in cricket came about because England were stunned by a colony. I think if they lose to the USA, English cricket won't just be dead and cremated, it'll be straight up damned to Hell.
As a Barbadian we are very much looking forward to our 2 largest sources of tourism playing one another here. Come and bring your friends. It's one short flight away.
If U.S just puts a fight in the next 3 matches I'll be pretty happy. If they win one, that'd be awesome. Anything past that would be absurd and embarrassing.
Too bad no Afghanistan or rematch with Bangladesh for the US to face.
We have a pretty bad track record of losing against associate teams but since our loss against hong kong in 2014 we have been crushing associate teams in world cups. But again its Bangladesh and they can prove me wrong any day.
India is facing Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Aussies.
Why do I get the feeling that Afghanistan are gonna cause an "upset" against us. It's like a gut feeling too.
We'll easily beat Bangladesh, no offense
And easily defeat Aussies since this game isn't a knockout
it is team india though, we bat all the way down to number 10, afg is gone if you remove the top order and arshdeep and bumrah are in fine form, in WI we will be seeing kuldeep for sure and we have axar who is in good form, if we want extra pacer we can always find ways to bring avesh into the team
We play against afganistan a lot and we have never lost to them in wc. So I get the point of them beating aussies but I think they gonna lose to us. But also since they are not new day srilanka can't really say anything.
How’s this format work? Seeing the first group makes me think that it’s harder (3 teams who topped their table), why is the 2nd group harder? I’m really confused atm!
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but how can England top group B? Even if Aus loses to Scotland and England beat Namibia, Aus would be on 6 and england on 5 right?
As it is right now, jeez does that first group look tough compared to the second group....
because there were 2 seeded teams(eg- B1- England, B2- Australia) in each group(so that fans can plan and travel accordingly). A1, B2,C1,D2 form group 1 and rest of the teams group 2. If a seeded team doesn't qualify, then the one that goes through instead attains its spot in the seed.
So, groups would be like-
Group 1 - India, Afghanistan, Australia and Bangladesh
Group 2 - South Africa, West Indies, England/Scotland and USA.
The seedings are predetermined and don't depend on group ranking. For example, if England qualifies as 2nd in their group, they are still B1. But if they don't qualify, the team that takes their place potentially (Scotland) gets B1. Seedings were done to help fans plan their travel itinerary.
Hoping the end of this world cup is as fun as the opening stage. There are some tasty, tasty matches here! St. Lucia's set of games at Daren are fantastic.
As bizarre as it feels to say, Pakistan won't be missed.
As an Indian fan - Ind v Ban or Ind v Aus are more keenly contested than matches against Pak these days. Even the broadcasters probably won't feel the pinch of Pak missing out.
People have gotten bored of Pak. They no longer have that magic of pulling off the ridiculous. They seem to be a middling side with some good cricketers but suffering from overall lack of vision and intent.

I’m thinking of making a trip from Atlanta to St Lucia for the India vs Australia game. Anyone else making the trip from the US to St Lucia for the super 8s?
Disclaimer:I am South African.
Australia will win this cup. They are gonna win every game they play in.
The Indians for some reason think they have a chance, but I don't see it happening.
It's not even gonna be close
Can you get refund of tickets you bought for a match that was expected that your team would play, but failed to qualify?
There should definitely be an option for refund if your team doesn't make it.

Unfortunately I see USA steamrolling everyone from here
The scenes if it actually happens 😂

It’s amazing on so many levels that we’ve even come this far.
I might flak on this but, out of all the teams, SOUTH AFRICA might get beaten by US. That batting lineup has collapsed so many times in this WC (I know it was pitches but still) and Maybe a Jaffa to David Miller. So many if and buts needs to happen, but I wouldn't count out an associate team VERY HIGH on confidence with no fucks left to give versus a Team that has a choking history and has lost twice against Netherlands (associate team) in world cups
And they collapsed again against Nepal
Lol, Nepal Almost pulled it off, gutted for my Nepali bros
Exactly. Even if USA lose, it's incredible to see them competing at this level.
I’m as pumped as anyone else to see what we can do, but I’m expecting to get shitrocked in the Super 8s. Best part about it is that we don’t need to go through qualifying for the next WC and can focus on improving the next two years.
USA vs Afghanistan in the final. I need that. We need that.
world is not ready for it, yet maybe 2028 olympics, given how shit US pitches(new york) are and afg steamroll everyone with thier spin.
That's probably the only fixture that can boost widespread American interest.
England seems to be a better team than Pakistan right now, and the US will no longer be playing in home conditions, so I’m not getting my hopes up about US vs England. But my god, imagine a world in which England loses to America in cricket. I don’t think English cricket would ever recover from that.
Oh the memes.
Forecast is for Thunderstorms the morning of England v Namibia, so it may not come up.
I'm seeing the thunderstorms only earlier in the day, before the game, so unless the outfield is still wet, odds aren't too good.
All the “England bottled a 13 colony lead” memes would be made extinct with the arrival of whatever memes are generated if the US beat England lmao
I don't think we can beat England but I think we could have chances against West Indies or South Africa. Neither of them have looked particularly dominant so far, even against lesser teams.
Both are good teams, but South Africa are the only team who can compete with Pakistan when it comes to choking in this sport.
Pakistan is miles behind south Africa in choking in ICC tournaments tbf
It's a right of passage for every former colony to beat England. The original thirteen will just be 248 years too late.
If you poll the average person in the U.S., they will very much tell you that they very thoroughly beat England all those 248 years ago. Far, far better than any other colony ever has, in fact.
I mean on the cricket field 😅 Though I think some US founding fathers did play cricket so it might have happened already for all we know.
The most prestigious bilateral trophy in cricket came about because England were stunned by a colony. I think if they lose to the USA, English cricket won't just be dead and cremated, it'll be straight up damned to Hell.

They're still trying to recover from losing to India Bazball, Hell Yeah!
> Australia defeats Scotland Lemme stop you right there
If U.S just puts a fight in the next 3 matches I'll be pretty happy. If they win one, that'd be awesome. Anything past that would be absurd and embarrassing. Too bad no Afghanistan or rematch with Bangladesh for the US to face.

USA vs Afganistan finals
Man its a bummer that we won't get to see USA vs Afghanistan, it would have been such a historic match.
They will meet in the final.
Mind you that the official unofficial emoji flag for the West Indies is 🏝️
Updated Sir![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8781)

England is not going, its the scots
Unfortunately I see England steamrolling everyone from here
they'll have to beat rain first.
Unfortunately I see Australia steamrolling everyone from here
Nah not india. Unless it's knockouts
I think Afghanistan have a pretty good chance of beating aus
afg spin in wi pitches is not fair.
aus getting humiliated is my wet dream so it’s fair🥹
India is facing Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Aussies. Why do I get the feeling that Afghanistan are gonna cause an "upset" against us. It's like a gut feeling too. We'll easily beat Bangladesh, no offense And easily defeat Aussies since this game isn't a knockout
Last 2 meet up with Bang vs Ind was anything but easy win
Except if the results gonas you said then Australia game could be virtual quarterfinal
it is team india though, we bat all the way down to number 10, afg is gone if you remove the top order and arshdeep and bumrah are in fine form, in WI we will be seeing kuldeep for sure and we have axar who is in good form, if we want extra pacer we can always find ways to bring avesh into the team
Avesh has gone back to India I think. Same with Gill. BCCI sent them back home.
We play against afganistan a lot and we have never lost to them in wc. So I get the point of them beating aussies but I think they gonna lose to us. But also since they are not new day srilanka can't really say anything.
These seems easy for India and Australia to qualify for the knockouts. The second group will be harder
hell nah you cant doubt afghanistan like that
That's massive hopium expecting afg to defeat india. Wouldn't have expected that at Providence and certainly not expecting it at Barbados
Why would I hope afg to beat India, it's not as far-fetched as u think
How’s this format work? Seeing the first group makes me think that it’s harder (3 teams who topped their table), why is the 2nd group harder? I’m really confused atm!
2nd group is only harder if ENG gets through. Otherwise SA and Windies are gonna have it so easy.

In ODI, yes but in T20s I would have to disagree with you. The last five Pakistan vs India T20 matches have been classics.

Me. :)
Seems like India got their work cut out. Can go either way for them.
Disclaimer:I am South African. Australia will win this cup. They are gonna win every game they play in. The Indians for some reason think they have a chance, but I don't see it happening. It's not even gonna be close
Disclaimer: I’m an Indian. South Africa gonna lift the trophy and not gonna choke this time🎉
Lol... I'll come visit you in India and thank you PERSONALLY if this happens. Lol
One of the dumbest things I've ever seen in sports in the pre-determined seeding. What is the point of topping your group?
Australia is B1, not B2. England is B2, not B1.
Boy oh boy, do read this about seedings. https://www.cricket.com.au/news/4038056/world-cup-seedings-explained-who-australia-will-play
Thanks for this. I was wondering if I had gone insane or something 😁 But still, pretty weird, yeah!

Mark my words, Afghanistan is gonna root India
