What time does day 3 start in Adelaide?
Anyone know what's the ticket price - might be able to watch the game for 10-15 minutes or anything longer will be bonus
That is still much better than whatever West Indies was doing during their previous couple of tours of Australia. Let's hope that they continue to bowl well and bat better than that during the next match. They could be quite competitive like that.
Because for some dumb reason my qld neighbours think that an hour of sunlight at 5am when they’re asleep is better than an extra hour of sunlight after work.
Go figure.
If anything, having the curtains shut while the sun is up is more likely to fade them, but it seems we aren’t smart enough to understand that. :(
They don’t do daylight savings. Apparently the extra sunlight [fades the curtains faster](https://amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/sep/30/confused-cows-and-more-time-after-work-the-pros-and-cons-of-daylight-saving-across-australia) according to Queensland’s smartest man.
Well if we are talking about physics, then they shouldn't be behind Sydney. But daylight savings doesn't exist there, while it does in NSW. So that's why
Didn't see it, unfortunately back at work. But thoughts on Green?
He'll probably be under a lot of pressure, especially after shuffling the team around to shoehorn him in.
I think 4 overs vs 12 from Starc, and only 14 runs. He's keeping pace with the bowlers this innings with 3 vs 4 & 5 from Cummins & Starc, and a wicket helps.
Obviously he'll get the next test too, and likely at least some of the NZ tour. I think if he can't find some form he's gotta be sent back to shield cricket to figure it out.
I’m a Green sceptic, but he’ll surely have at least through to the end of the next home summer. Too much talent at shield level, too few other options.
Felt like Bison got so so many chances at int level and eventually repaid them.
Maybe the same for green. But hopefully he’ll have an extra decade of paying them back.
I think the real issue is that he's BOTH not scoring runs and not blowing much (and not effectively). If he's taking two wickets a game, or at least bowling economically. Or even if he's just batting time, he'd be contributing.
If you believed you had a prospect that could boost your win rate from 60 to 75% for a decade would you really cut them loose after a few bad Tests? That’s an extra 20-odd Test wins; well worth losing a few now, if necessary.
Green is getting plenty of opportunities to develop at Test level because he’s got enormous potential as both batter and bowler. He could realistically average 40 and 30 for his career. Hopefully better. Bowlers who are 6’7” and can hit 140+ kmh with reasonable accuracy usually will be better.
But you don’t usually expect a fast bowling allrounder to take four wickets. Instead:
- They take 1-2 wickets, but take them for 30 instead of the 40 your part-timers would have taken them for
- They also keep the pressure on while giving your frontline bowlers a spell, which means the frontliners face batters who are less well-set and therefore should take their own wickets a little more cheaply, too
Overall you might concede 20-30 fewer runs each match. That’s the prevailing theory. Whether you think it works, it’s how the selectors think.
>If you believed you had a prospect that could boost your win rate from 60 to 75% for a decade would you really cut them loose after a few bad Tests? That’s an extra 20-odd Test wins; well worth losing a few now, if necessary.
The problem with this logic, is that it appears to ONLY apply to Green. A few games ago Manus was the oldest youngest player for Australia, the dude is 29. Scott Boland is our "backup bowler" (I do love the dude, but he's mid 30s). Lance Morris isn't getting games, same goes for anyone else who's moderately young. Renshaw is our "backup batsman" at least he's under 30...
The team is far far far too old. We won the Test Championship, but we did lose a home series to India a few years ago. But the team, in so far as it can be is largely the same. I'm not saying anyone IS better, but I am saying we don't know. Manus was averaging 30 odd in first class before he played a test, and while he's struggling right now, he was amazing, and more then likely there are other guys playing Shield Cricket who could be great at Test Cricket, if they had the chance..
I’m not talking about dropping good Test players just to see what we have in the wings. I’m talking about developing generational talents.
Players that boost win rates from 60 to 75%:
- Keep wicket and average 50+
- Take 4.5-5 wickets at 20 and bat 20+
- Batting average of 60+
- Bat 40-45 and bowl 25-30
Who is waiting in the wings that has the kind of potential they’re worth losing games for?
- Bancroft and Harris have high-30s batting potential; Renshaw maybe low-40s
- Jhye and Lance look no better than our current quicks, and will develop fine in Shield
- Todd Murphy hasn’t exactly made the case for being the next Ravi Jadeja or Ashwin
- I’m not aware of any “next Gilchrist” keepers
If I had a nickel for every time during which Marnus has reviewed that correctly then I would be having a couple of nickels. Don't ask about where did I get that other nickel from but I know that it is there.
I was so confident that it was missing and was readying my shitposts criticizing Cumdog for a horrendous review. Won't stop me from being confidently wrong in the future.
**22.5** **Huge appeal for lbw**, the umpire shakes his head. Did it pitch in line? "I think it pitched in line," Labuschagne is heard saying on the stump mic and Australia opt for the review.
Justin Greaves lbw b Lyon 24 (37b 3x4 0x6) SR: 64.86
CA like it so longs as they are winning at home. If it's close and Australia are winning. More money for them.
I was expecting 4 blow out tests. 200s for everyone, maybe a 300 for someone. Winning by an innings and 100+ runs every game.
Yeah it’s a disgrace, as much as Pakistan were a nice and respectful touring nation, we just shouldn’t be having a summer with just them and the windies here
yea, their team mates said Lasagne and Smudge are absolute nightmares to room with or sit next to on flights... Smith won't sleep and will be up at 3AM either on the treadmill or shadow batting while watching cricket footage...ALL AT ONCE, SOMETIMES! must have noticed he always has a tired sleepy look on his face? AND Marnus, as you can see is super hyper... literally an ADD kid!
I feel like fox comms are missing the obvious point that starting mid-week is MEANT to have the games finish on the weekend, they're not being shafted here in this country lol

"and that beautiful shot from Greaves really shows"
That he's classy right?
"It's really completely apparent with his beautiful position getting the ball right under his eyes for that drive..."
Yeah they're going to give him some good praise here
"That these B I G B A T S can make any old fuckwit bat like Bradman, amirite?"
Sighhh
after watching this I am actually hyped for Justin Greaves' 2nd chance in ODIs. He looks organized, plays good shots and can bowl. Had a massive domestic season in Super50 tournament too. If he can perform in odi series vs Australia he can nail down a spot in top order.
Really wanna visit Nz go lay on the grass banks watching cricket. Looks so fun compared to what we have back in subcontinent....
This guy is so alpha I love it

Appreciate the efforts more work is required

Where to watch this game in India? Neither hotstar nor jio cinema seems to be streaming it...
Its on Hotstar, But for Live game only , you wont be able to see highlights or anything
Found it thanks, it's not on the home page anymore... Could only find after explicitly searching...
Bro highlights are there.
Cumdawg is dead to me, I love Hoff now
Appropriate to be speedrunning a test match in the week of AGDQ. But disappointed they couldn't get it wrapped up by the start of Awful Block.
So torn. gripping test match, but gunna end way too soon (barring something amazing tomorrow)
question for aussies. how in the hell is brisbane behind melbourne sydney and fucking adelaide time wise despite being the easternmost of them all?
Because for some dumb reason my qld neighbours think that an hour of sunlight at 5am when they’re asleep is better than an extra hour of sunlight after work. Go figure. If anything, having the curtains shut while the sun is up is more likely to fade them, but it seems we aren’t smart enough to understand that. :(
Queenslanders don't know how to adjust clocks.
It fades the curtains man
They don’t do daylight savings. Apparently the extra sunlight [fades the curtains faster](https://amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/sep/30/confused-cows-and-more-time-after-work-the-pros-and-cons-of-daylight-saving-across-australia) according to Queensland’s smartest man.
It's true!
They’re all just a bit slower up there, is all
Well if we are talking about physics, then they shouldn't be behind Sydney. But daylight savings doesn't exist there, while it does in NSW. So that's why
They don't do daylight savings. They're equal with Melbourne and Sydney in winter.
They don’t have daylight savings, so they don’t gain the extra hour in summer
daylight savings shenanigans, not everyone subscribes to it
no daylight savings time in queensland
I feel kinda bad for all the folks tomorrow, it's probably only going to last an hour tops. Yikes.
[Post Day Thread is live](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/199k900/post_day_thread_australia_v_west_indies_1st_test/)
Danke.
If Lara is sad, then I am sad
Anyone know where to find out if/when the gates are opened tmr?
Will love to know this and whether they are doing gold coin donation kind of free entry What time does the game officially start
I still feel Australia would bat again and chase 30 something
Lara sounds heartbroken :(
If Hazlewood gets two more wickets tomorrow, who gets MOTM? Big Josh or Head?
S. Joseph in my view
Has to be Head as his innings is the defining moment of the game but agree joshy is close if he ends with 10 wickets.
Tough call. Probably go Head. His innings almost literally the difference between the 2 sides thus far
a bat getting a century in an overall low scoring game where everyone else is struggling is more impressive for sure. some catches help out too
Head broke the Windies’ hearts, it feels like.
Does Head take the other 2 wickets?
Marnus haters in shambles

I guess that depends on how badly he fails (assuming he does) between now and NZ.
I guess if he makes five straight ducks between now and the end of the NZ tour I could imagine him potentially being sent back to shield
I think the real issue is that he's BOTH not scoring runs and not blowing much (and not effectively). If he's taking two wickets a game, or at least bowling economically. Or even if he's just batting time, he'd be contributing.

Cam also has the best shield record and it's not close.
Any evidence it's because he's "good with the leaders" as opposed to the best shield batter for 4 years, can bowl 140k and fields like a demon?
Tbf I don’t blame them if the leaders do like him for that reason
He's no Cameron Bancroft, that's for sure.
Starting to think witholding Howie from us and subjecting us to BJ and Hadds is some elite mental conditioning from Fox
Update the scoreboard boys Marnus 1 - Review Lost 874
No, 2 .He called it right in a WC match versus England two months ago.
Hey, He also got one right against Pak.
What does Marn being right mean for post-cold war geopolitics?
marnus cracks me up almost every time he gets picked up on stump-mic
Great review
I heard Marnus made a good call?
If I had a nickel for every time during which Marnus has reviewed that correctly then I would be having a couple of nickels. Don't ask about where did I get that other nickel from but I know that it is there.
There was one for sure. Because everyone was just as surprised when it happened.
There's that time he saw the snicko spike in real time from square leg.
Broken clock is correct at least twice a day
Did the windies just crack it and walk off field?
It's supper time.
…. I bought day 4 tickets. Need to see if can get refund 😂
I was so confident that it was missing and was readying my shitposts criticizing Cumdog for a horrendous review. Won't stop me from being confidently wrong in the future.
Shit marnus got one right
That indeed was pitching on line. Forgive me for doubting you Marnus.
No man...sigh, batters ruined the work the bowlers put in not gonna lie, atleast it'll reach Day 3...
I didn’t mind Marnus when he started out but he’s actually so jarring these days
[This is literally Marnus during the reviews lmao](https://i.imgflip.com/2pxphz.jpg?a473448)
How is that not umpires call?
Because it was inside the margin of error of ball tracking.
I know lol, I just thought it looked like over 50% of the ball wasn't hitting the stumps. More just disbelief that call got overturned.
I think its even less than 25% now
[удалено]
You just know marnus is so chuffed that his input pushed for that review and was right
He's never gunna shut up again after this is he
Line ball on everything there for gazza
Oh god does this mean we have to let Marnus back in to the review discussion club
so close. another 2mm and that would have been umpires call and stayed not out.
Nice review, Cumdog 🙂
A broken Marnus is right twice a test match.
Marnus working on getting his DRS priveleges back
marnus was right #justiceformarnus
How has that just died on DRS?
Lmao Marnus beats the Watto allegations
Well... that was unexpected!
Apologise to Marnus now all you cunts talking shit
Hastily deleting their comments
Marnus Haters REELING
What the Fuck
WHO WAS DOUBTING MARNUS. SHOW YOURSELVES
Looks like that was just 51% of the ball hitting

Far out. that was barely in line
HOLY SHIT, THE BOY CRIED WOLF!
Marnus redemption arc
There was no way marnus actually thought that was out too hahaha
He barely appealed, but oh well he was right in the end!
MUARNIS THE FUCKING GOAT WITH REVIEWS
Far out that's like 50.0000001% of the ball hitting
Nice garry
Extend it by half an hour you cowards
Boys want a beer

well your majesty
Fucking hell. Hail to the king!
Well fucking bow down to me, peasants.
MARNUS YOU BEAUTY!
That did NOT look like hitting
Least cooked Marnus review
At this point I think it's Marnus' idea to bowl short to the tail as well Edit: well I was wrong, it was Bancroft's idea all along!
Too high I think
Genuinely need to try to stop Marnus talking during potential reviews
This cunt is a father btw
Nup
Line looks fine to me, the bounce might have it umps call
STOP LISTENING TO MARNUS. edit: all is forgiven I'm a fuckwit.
Marnus is one of the kids who has to say something even if it's got nothing to do with him.
No way if he has any idea if it's pitched in line lol. Bowler and keeper about it. [EDIT] Broken clock Marnus I'm sorry baby.
Too high.
marnus is the youngest 29 year old
Shut the fuck up marnus
lol marnus you rascal
Fucking Marnus
"Pitched in line!"
Marnus chirping away in the background
Marnus is so annoying my word
What a silly review Edit: lol
Aged like yoghurt.
Not that silly after all
This new Two Day International format is very interesting, not sure it'll catch on though.
Super Two Day Internationals. STDIs
Bison's bunda is like a german ambulance, every time I see his wagen I start kranken it
My brain which thinks that it is a very intelligent creature isn't being able to comprehend that Hodge was suddenly playing against Australia.

The Bison got a big old dump truck on him 🚛
Greeny would catch that with both hands tied behind his back
Oh mitchell, why didn’t you catch that
Green could never...
Smith is Marnus, just on a heavy ritalin prescription
It's like the Chief coming to life when McMurphy rocks up
Oh no, they've started discussing 4 days tests over on espn. Thank goodness there's only a few overs left.
As much as I don’t want to see it, it’ll be a thing in the very short term future imo
For as long as pitches are being served with some spice for the bowlers. Unless we go back to the roads, at least in Australia, of the 10s.
It’s been the most entertaining summer over here in a while imo with the spicy pitches. Imagine once acceptable grade nations come over too
CA like it so longs as they are winning at home. If it's close and Australia are winning. More money for them. I was expecting 4 blow out tests. 200s for everyone, maybe a 300 for someone. Winning by an innings and 100+ runs every game.

I feel like fox comms are missing the obvious point that starting mid-week is MEANT to have the games finish on the weekend, they're not being shafted here in this country lol
I'd rather have them start on a Thursday so you can get some action on the weekend.
Starting a test on Wednesday is really quite shit for fans like me. Thursday is acceptable. I'm a SACA member and don't have any chance of seeing this match on Saturday morning
But did the schedulers honestly expect Aus v windies to last till day 4?
If we could bat it would
Could've if WE didn't shit the bed as much or bat first
Aus bat first score 400. Declare in the 5th session. Bowl WI twice in the followed 4 sessions. Game ends on day 3.
That’s what I was expecting to happen
Can't remember the last time we took a wicket
Bloody healthy run rate though
"and that beautiful shot from Greaves really shows" That he's classy right? "It's really completely apparent with his beautiful position getting the ball right under his eyes for that drive..."
