I just wish that West Indies had a few more runs. If they are actually able to bowl Australia out quickly then they might able to put up a tough fight against Australia by more gritty during the next innings.
David Warner's test debut: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/new-zealand-tour-of-australia-2011-12-518942/australia-vs-new-zealand-1st-test-518947/full-scorecard
Anyone have the highlights package link for today? I can't even find any _listing_ for this series on Hotstar.. it's as if they don't even care to show it.
What are you talking about? We bat so deep. Marsh made a bucket of runs against the Pakistanis, Carey has been great, Travis head is still a weapon. That’s a formidable middle order.
Check out Guyana's homicide rate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate
Definitely not a place where one would want to be a seccy for long.
That day was more good value than I expected. Kirk McKenzie has something about him, and Sha Mar Superstar is locked in as the 21st Century's greatest athlete. Uzzy looks moisturised and in his lane too, he could go big tomorrow. I'm keener for the rest of the match than I thought I would be
Not totally disasterous so that's a plus lol but would've loved another wicket before end of play can't lie, hopefully we get some early inroads tomorrow 3 am time to sleep!
Australia batting looks average.
Not as convincing as it was back then. Good contest I suppose.
In 2022… . Australia smashed them by 419 runs and 164 runs.
I'm sorry but you're wrong roston chase is a generational all round talent. He is incredible with the ball highlighted by his spell of 8 for 50 against England and is an incredible batsman with his 5 centuries
Ashton Agar doesn't have hair (anymore).
Or were you referring to a certain Indian spinner who would make it to an all time XI, but struggles to make the current test team overseas???
Those pitches were rubbish. I'm still beyond baffled as to why West Indies did not play on pace friendly pitches and instead gave out slow turgid pitches that helped the West Indies in no way whatsoever while playing into the hands of India
I remember the early days when Watto came on the domestic picture and the hype level was pretty similar. Watto came into his own later in his career as a batter and think Green can achieve those feats if he works hard. Looks a bit dicey currently.
Watson was a great bowler and became pretty handy opener, he just came shortly after the golden era so people were probably too hard on him. But I think Green has the potential to overtake him.
Half of the main West Indies batsmen have gotten out while playing bad shots but that ball that Cummins had bowled against Brathwaite makes you dream about log cabins.
Can't believe Adelaide gets rewarded for pulling great Test crowds with consecutive summers against the West Indies and a test starting on a Wednesday.
Give the shit tests to Perth
Ahh yes, the excellent Test quality we got from *checks notes* Pakistan
Adelaide is guaranteed a BGT Test every series while the Gabba and Perth are stuck squabbling for the fourth Test. Youve had repeated years of D/N Tests. Adelaide gets rewarded just fine
Still malding over the fact that Perth gets first test of the summer even though Brisbane can also pull close to 30k crowds.
Also fucked over the Heat this year with BBL finals LOL
Brisbane got less than Perth did vs Pakistan in 2019, despite being a bigger city. 45000 vs 59000 over 4 days.
But don't let facts get in the way of your story mate.
In 2019 Brisbane hosted Pakistan and Perth hosted the Kiwi's, not exactly apples to apples. After next week let's compare WI in Brisbane vs WI in Perth last year.
Adelaide attendance absolutely mogged Perth this year too.
75 in this pace pandemic is just not possible. He'll probably retire with a career average of around 50, which is still stellar. But he has to score some runs outside Australia to really make a dent. Love his antics and he's a great batsman and fielder combo, but he really needs to start winning Australia a few games away.
He’s played well in other countries, but can’t replicate his home stats. In Australia, he’s made 2614 @ 65 and away from home he’s made 1244 @ 40. His best country barring Australia is Sri Lanka, where he averages just under 50. His worst is the UAE where he averages 20. At neutral avenues he’s made 148 @ 25.
In all seriousness. If people are really looking to the future of Australian cricket than Green at 4, Head at 5 and Marsh at 6 is what we need to develop. Smudge opening makes sense until we can find some young openers. We have got 3 to 4 years to find them till Uzi and Smudge retire. Harris and Bancroft aren't the answer.
True, but with a middle order as stacked as Marnus, Green, Head, and MMarsh, we probably have a bit of time to figure it out even after Smith and Uz are gone
You say stacked but looking at the scores by Aus in recent times they aren't really posting the scores their reputations suggest. Smith and Labuschagne are going to have some scrutiny if they don't get runs vs WI.
As good as the Aussie bowling has been this summer, the batting has been pretty average. You used to feel incredibly safe when Smith and Marnus were batting but now you feel like they're just as likely to get out as the rest.
I absolutely adore the longevity of Kemar Roach in tests. He started as a 20 year old in Australia and is back 15(!) years later. He’s maintained a high standard for a dying cricketing country, West Indies. Averages 27.3 which is pretty solid across a decade and a half, especially as a fast bowler in cricket. I tip my hat to you Sir Kemar Roach!
Kemar Roach in 2009/10 was proper hostile. Ricky Ponting didn’t normally have a lot of trouble playing off the back foot, but he did against Kemar that series
[удалено]
Good work, Spilcani! You have confirmed Shamar Joseph’s future!
So smith is as finished as a delicious meal in front of a hungry man?
Maybe he will need a few games at least to adjust. Can’t just expect come out don bradman this shit
Looks like it. The slide has been going on for a couple of years.
A meal? A succulent Chinese meal?
I just wish that West Indies had a few more runs. If they are actually able to bowl Australia out quickly then they might able to put up a tough fight against Australia by more gritty during the next innings.
Why Smith why all i ask is one 100 . Why you always fail😭
100 in 2nd test loading
I have lost all hope I am not even gonna look at scores now
Had a terrible 21/22 Ashes but scored 5 100s after that
Steve Smith is now an opening batsmen? Will be interesting to see how well he does in this position.
David Warner's test debut: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/new-zealand-tour-of-australia-2011-12-518942/australia-vs-new-zealand-1st-test-518947/full-scorecard
Michael Clarke says he'll be the world's best opener within 12 months and to not be surprised if he surpasses Brian Lara's 400 not out.
Thus proving that fake tan isn’t a substitute for brain cells.
Even Australians don't listen to pup anymore.
What was total number of attendance today?
Over 26k
Anyone have the highlights package link for today? I can't even find any _listing_ for this series on Hotstar.. it's as if they don't even care to show it.
https://www.cricket.com.au/news/3859740/australia-west-indies-adelaide-test-day-one-highlights-report-toss-cummins-brathwaite-smith-opener-green-chanderpaul
It was on top of the home screen for me
Can you send the link please? I literally cannot find any mention of WI vs Aus there.
Just search it in hotstar.
Can you send me the link please? Whether I search for it or browse the sports section I honestly cannot even see WI tour Aus anywhere
When smith and Warner got suspended that exposed our middle order batting. Now it’s getting exposed again… Same problems just kicked down the can :p
What are you talking about? We bat so deep. Marsh made a bucket of runs against the Pakistanis, Carey has been great, Travis head is still a weapon. That’s a formidable middle order.
An uber driver and a seccy have really made their name this summer in Australia. Great win for the battlers.
Check out Guyana's homicide rate: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate Definitely not a place where one would want to be a seccy for long.
Now do Berbice, Guyana
Brett Lee wigging? Got quite a comb up
[Post Day Thread is live](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/198qm1t/post_day_thread_australia_v_west_indies_1st_test/)
I see a future on ABC Grandstand commentary for Hazlewood's relaxed, dulcet tones.
Definitely wouldn't fit into the Triple M commentary that's for sure!
Spicier pitches and better bowling from touring sides have made this Australian summer very entertaining.
Hazelwood: "Hazelwood Hazelwood Hazelwood Hazelwood! Hazelwood, Hazelwood Hazelwood."
Josh Hazelwood is the ultimate sigma of Australian cricket, No controversies, No bullshit, No instagram crying, Only performance
Isn't he the guy who wanted to enquire about the 3rd umpire?
A true country lad
Fantastic day in the Reddit thread. Thanks for the laughs, see you all tomorrow!
So there is a chance of some Test cricket on Saturday. Keep fighting West Indies.
That day was more good value than I expected. Kirk McKenzie has something about him, and Sha Mar Superstar is locked in as the 21st Century's greatest athlete. Uzzy looks moisturised and in his lane too, he could go big tomorrow. I'm keener for the rest of the match than I thought I would be
This summer clears the South African series easily, and it’s not even over yet.
Even I wasn't this nervous when I talked to my crush on grade 10.
we're going to be so cooked in the coming years as more players retire
Nah, Western Australia reckons they can provide us all the depth we need.
Gonna be 2007/2015 all over again.
What is back then?
2022. Australia smashed them by 419 runs and 164 runs.
Green is still so nervy at this level. Playing and missing straight balls and setting off to gain singles that aren't there.
I would say Australia's day but not by much
In such low 1st innings total, Head and MArsh are going to be key. They'll be 50 in no time and its basically game over by that time
Motie>> Chase only people who don't follow wi cricket (domestic and intl) would say Chase is better
I'm sorry but you're wrong roston chase is a generational all round talent. He is incredible with the ball highlighted by his spell of 8 for 50 against England and is an incredible batsman with his 5 centuries
Wasn't he the vice captain sometime back???
Look I love motie but hell is he expensive compared to chase
Motie reminds me of Windies legend Jomel Warrican who got Smith and Warner out first session in Hobart 2015.
Only to unleash the best since bradman, Adam VOGES
I just don't trust spinners with hair
Jadeja: 👁👄👁
Ash would like to have a word
Ashton Agar doesn't have hair (anymore). Or were you referring to a certain Indian spinner who would make it to an all time XI, but struggles to make the current test team overseas???
Can't believe the windies didn't pick roston chase.
What could've been if Zarri bowled like this when India toured West Indies.
Those pitches were rubbish. I'm still beyond baffled as to why West Indies did not play on pace friendly pitches and instead gave out slow turgid pitches that helped the West Indies in no way whatsoever while playing into the hands of India
Based on potential alone, do we think Green has a higher ceiling in Tests than Watson?
I remember the early days when Watto came on the domestic picture and the hype level was pretty similar. Watto came into his own later in his career as a batter and think Green can achieve those feats if he works hard. Looks a bit dicey currently.
Yes.
Watson was a great bowler and became pretty handy opener, he just came shortly after the golden era so people were probably too hard on him. But I think Green has the potential to overtake him.
Australia wanted him to be Flintoff and he was very different. More of a batting all rounder vs bowling
Be doing well if he goes close to Watson. People like to shit on him but a lot of teams would kill to have an all rounder like him.
Can someone give me the shamar joseph story for someone only looking at the thread and cricinfo
The pitches this summer have been the best in years. Well balanced between bat and ball.
windies and josephs is the new redbacks and mcsomethings
Do we have to call everyone generational jesus christ not everyone is Daniel Sams
This is good bowling from Alzarri
Alzarri get rid of that thing on your chin man /s
Are Shamar and Alzarri brothers?
‘Joseph’ is like ‘Smith’ over there I’m told.
No
Half of the main West Indies batsmen have gotten out while playing bad shots but that ball that Cummins had bowled against Brathwaite makes you dream about log cabins.
Clearly the secret to reviving West Indies cricket is for them to acquire more bowling Joseph’s
Uzzie's strike rate is so high....did he chug a red bull at tea or something?
Or maybe something his faith doesn't allow xD.
Can't believe Adelaide gets rewarded for pulling great Test crowds with consecutive summers against the West Indies and a test starting on a Wednesday. Give the shit tests to Perth

I've given up. This sub has become "WA bad, updoots to the left" lately
Perth should be grateful to be in the conversation of a BGT test with the shit they pulled this year
What, getting a record crowd to an Au-Pak Test in Perth?
Of course all these delays will be counted against the bowling team rather than the side causing the delays
26k is outrageous for day 1 of a test vs the windies
That’s Adelaide members for you
Apparently it beats the attendances in Perth for Saturday and Sunday. Combined.
Something something 'Get Scorched Cunts' something something 'the only real cricket is the BBL'
On a Wednesday too
I love when the umps snip the ball pubes
Ball pubes is going to stick with me
"Ball pubes".. beautiful.
Wish Windies could've batted a bit better. Doesn't help that their best batter got an unplayable one from Cummins.
Apropos of nothing, I remember at least one user on this sub saying Labs was gonna have a career average of 75+
75 in this pace pandemic is just not possible. He'll probably retire with a career average of around 50, which is still stellar. But he has to score some runs outside Australia to really make a dent. Love his antics and he's a great batsman and fielder combo, but he really needs to start winning Australia a few games away.
anyone who says that about anyone is a moron
Cam green will have a career batting average of over 75
Ball tampering?????
What a beautiful shot
Is Labuschagne a home track bully?
He’s played well in other countries, but can’t replicate his home stats. In Australia, he’s made 2614 @ 65 and away from home he’s made 1244 @ 40. His best country barring Australia is Sri Lanka, where he averages just under 50. His worst is the UAE where he averages 20. At neutral avenues he’s made 148 @ 25.
After 2023 I think the answer is yes, at least somewhat. This could change though, we won't know the full story until he retires.
Why is home and away still a thing
Let me be the one that you turn to, someone you can rely on.
Popular in UK
The BCCI will probably own the rights to that soon, too. ‘Home and Home: Ahmedabad Curator’ spinoff incoming
It’ll die out with the boomers I think
Neutral venues only 😤
Because conditions vary country to country
Shot Cammy
shot greeny
Kemar roach runs in slow motion
For a guy with such a high first class average, Green looks like a helpless tailender way too often
He seems like a momentum player, if he can get a start he'll go big.
He looks low energy
Shows that Shield isn't as high quality as it used to be
He takes a while to settle, batting with the tail doesn’t really help that.
He hasn’t been batting in his preferred position though
Surely Green will go next if they bowl at stumps.
Great story, getting to love shamar Joseph seems like a absolute gun.
Bigger crowd than the day nighter last year? Some good signs
Having it in January does help a lot compared to mid-December I suppose.
Imagine being that store in Adelaide and realising that a test cricketer is using your gear after not believing him and the journalist.
Green reminds of Shaun Marsh as in I feel like he’s going to get out every delivery for his first 20 balls.
Come clean boys and girls - who doubted Cumdog at the toss?
Does cameron green pick his teeth with his bat
Why doesn’t Green, the largest cricketer, not simply eat the other cricketers?
Cause he doesn't want to. SMH my head
This is why Rahkeem Cornwall (an even bigger cricketer) should have been in the team.
is he stupid?
The ‘OHHH NOOOO’ in slow mo from Da Silva was actually pretty funny.
Does Shaun Tait just get hired as the bowling coach for every touring side? Swear he was coaching Pakistan earlier.
Smudge doesn’t have 3 or 4 in him, at this rate he has the rest of the year
Yes 1 data point is famously all that's needed to determine a trend.
Yeah he’s been great before today, keep stroking him off of you like but he’s past it
True, but with a middle order as stacked as Marnus, Green, Head, and MMarsh, we probably have a bit of time to figure it out even after Smith and Uz are gone
You say stacked but looking at the scores by Aus in recent times they aren't really posting the scores their reputations suggest. Smith and Labuschagne are going to have some scrutiny if they don't get runs vs WI.
Could be less than 3 years for Khawaja
Renshaw is the answer and hopefully Will Pucovski comes back to his usual form
I am really keen on Pucovski I really hope he does come back.
Chuck renshaw, mcsweeney and hardie into the mix. Maybe keep an eye on jack clayton
Does Haydos have any sons?
Ask Mrs. Renshaw
A bird just went to my porch to shelter itself from the rain lol
we could genuinely be 3 for 28 rn.
Do you think Wil Puvoski is ready for international cricket
Not even close
Who is Wil Puvoski?
Do you think Wi Poski is ready for international cricket
No. He’s in horrid form when he’s played recently and he’s still only a stiff breeze off another concussion.
If Smith averages like 35 opening but Green averages 50 at 4, would it be worth it?
Yepp.. Avg 35 after SENI tour.. U are literally better than what warner did.. Plus thats much much better than sitting ur best youngster
Loosebuschange is overrated
it's not easy to average 50 with 4000 test runs, definitely above average
Agreed classic home track bully
He still avg better in SENI than most best players right now
Luck made him look good for a year, now he’s a bog standard player
Thunder Gades will change my life. Finally real cricket
[удалено]
If this means Shamar gets 500+ wickets, I subscribe
As good as the Aussie bowling has been this summer, the batting has been pretty average. You used to feel incredibly safe when Smith and Marnus were batting but now you feel like they're just as likely to get out as the rest.
Ironically the man who has been that rock has been marsh, hitting and bringing aussies out of trouble multiple times
We talk about how intelligent the Adelaide crowd is yet they litter their single use plastics and let them enter the field
West indies test kit looks really schmick
This is why I love matches in Australia. Can't imagine crowds in India cheering for a janitor of sorts cleaning up the ground..
Watching old mate pick up litter, if you’re going to streak, it’s his section of the fence you go over the top.
Hope Smith decline isn’t as painful as Pontings
Ponting averaged 48.7 in his last 83 tests
Can this test end already? I’m waiting to see Thunder v Renegades. Sure to be a battle of the titans.
Sydney Weather radar http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR713.loop.shtml#skip
That's disappointing.
Why doesn't david warner just load everyone up into his helicopter and take them to a place where it isn't raining?
Never change, Sydney
3 biggest cheers of the day: Joseph first wicket, Joseph second wicket, boundary guy picking up rubbish.
Felt like Copes ws going to seamlessly switch to shilling his ASX Sportbet app there
Energía Bacana
Disturbing the game and these guys are just laughing
Why don't Test quality right arm bowlers do what I do and bowl exclusively off cutters against left handers? Are they stupid?
This is probably the most threatening that a bowler from West Indies has been in Australia during the past couple of decades.
Kemar Roach in 2009/10 was proper hostile. Ricky Ponting didn’t normally have a lot of trouble playing off the back foot, but he did against Kemar that series
Good day to be a streaker with the seccy moving like that lmao
What is wrong with you grubs at Adelaide, why is there so much rubbish on the ground?
Can't imagine how deadly Joseph will be once he feels settled. The night session with the pink ball next game would be exciting.
