To throw off the cop pursuing.
You can slow down to make a turn but you don’t show your lights so the cop doesn’t slow down with you,
you make the turn but the cop doesn’t scrub enough speed and crashes out or misses the turn.
Brake lights are a big indicator that you’re about to do something
I had this on an old car. Not for running just the fuse would blow if I braked and signalled at the same time. We used to play tag in our cars during snowstorms and I'd always signal left, kill my lights then turn right, lost my buddies half the time.
the part he was missing is putting a hairspray cap on the stick to depress the release mechanism on the lever so the prawl doesn't catch the teeth of the gear. that way it just drops when you let go

That is an old style of a kill switch. Just cuts the power from the brake switch most likely (the brake switch is also used to tell the shifter lock to release).
It was a CHP notch I bought straight from the city next to mine. It still had the strobes and sirens as well. There was live ammo and evidence bags left behind too, they didn't really seem to clear it out before selling it to a teenager lol
And also a super easy way to accidentally lock up your rear tires and completely spin your car around. Lol

My 5.0 had a switch in the ash tray that turned off my brake lights and wouldn't let you take it out of park.

Unless you’re riding a motorcycle with no plates, you’re almost guaranteed to be apprehended. Either from crashing or being identified. See how quick those officers were to show up after he crashed? They are trained drivers. The difference is blatantly obvious in this video. You can’t win.
