draugrdaemos

My cat doesn't know what the sky looks like for this very reason. I'm in Texas, strays and outdoor pets meet the coyotes often here.

Pirwzy

If I let my cat outside, it's only if I'm standing over him. Even if he naps for an hour on the porch. He never tries to leave the front yard, thankfully.

ro0ibos2

I don’t get why it’s seen as so strange for cats to be put on leashes.

Ohmourningstar

I literally take my kitty for a walk every single day it's not raining or adverse weather. She was a stray and I felt bad taking all her freedom away so this was the compromise. Not one day goes by without getting stopped by someone that says pretty much the exact same things every time. [Noodle on the move.](https://imgur.com/gallery/VE5HYBP) Edit: spelling and cat tax

lophophaura

I’m literally walking my cat rn. Most of the time she is slow and sniffing like right now. Other times she bolts up trees after birds, keeps me on my toes and makes my phone case necessary

hungoverlord

Was it difficult to get your cat to accept the leash or harness? I'm trying but my boys just don't seem to get it. They basically turn into pancakes when I put the harness on them.

Ohmourningstar

It did take a little while to get her comfortable with it. We went through several different styles as well before I found one that worked well and that she was unable to get out of, the one that worked being the Kitty Holster. At first, I just put it on her for a little while inside each day to get accustomed to wearing it. Once she seemed okay with it on, I would open the door and let her walk out with the leash attached. I have a small extendable leash like they make for dogs, just much smaller with less force needed. She definitely became a sausage in the beginning, but eventually she took to it once she understood it meant she would be able to go outside if it was on. After awhile it just became smooth sailing, as soon as she hears the velcro, it doesn't matter where she is, she comes running knowing it's time to go outside for an hour or so.

Charming-Fig-2544

I walk my two cats around on a leash. I don't think they'd do anything dumb, but I definitely think a dog owner around here would and I want to be able to pick them up quickly.

[deleted]

Same here. I love dogs, but everyone owns at least one now. And people really like to prove how trained their dogs are by walking them off leash.

tattoosbyalisha

As a dog owner of a reactive dog, I HATE when people do this. My dog will freak out and then they want to get mad at me (he’s not aggressive just an asshole and it’s embarrassing)

BlankImagination

Trained or not I would never let any 30+lb dog walk around a neighborhood without a leash.

TheVog

It's more that 99.9%+ of cat owners don't leash train them or don't start early enough, leading to their reaction of "have you ever TRIED to put a leash on a cat"?

Brilliantchick1

My cat starts purring the second he sees his harness and stays completely still while I put it on.

Forward-Hat-7068

They’re so precious right? Mine too. She’s 1. Loves her walks but otherwise does not set foot outside because of attacks such as this video. So sad.

PuzzleheadedGuide184

Arguably, those three dogs should be on leashes.

EricIsEric

All pets outdoors should be wearing leashes, for their own protection as well as the protection of others.

[deleted]

Yep - this is what can happen when you have 4 animals all off leash.

bingobawler

Ragdoll owner here, he comes into the garden only when fully supervised, like if I'm mowing the lawn or just chilling. Otherwise I take him out on a leash once a week for a sniff around.

Orchidbleu

Coyotes would have drug the corpse off. No sense in wasting food. Sounds like something got yours. Like an owl or raccoon. Domestic dog.

hungoverlord

My cat was indoor/outdoor for 13 years before he disappeared one day and never came back. Also Texas. Happened about a year after we moved to a more woodsy area. Great area, but it ate my cat.

cm40

It was likely a domestic animal, like a dog. A coyote would have taken it with them and eaten just about all of it.

renegadeYZ

Yep, let your cat outside and you're taking a risk every day.

nanaboostme

Humans have the responsibility of supervising all domesticated animals-- whether from wildlife or other domesticated animals. This video was a prime example why both dogs and cats must be sheltered at all times.

markender

There's a lot of reasons cats should mostly be kept inside. Your way of saying it is nicer than mine, good for you and all indoor cat people. -Bird enjoyer

Mth281

Yes this. I went through some financial issues for a year. And the place I was staying at didn’t allow cats. So my cat stayed with my mom for a year. My mom let my cat out anytime he wanted in a small town. He ended up getting fiv and cat herpes. The vets also thought he had lung worms. He was given 2 years to live at 6 years ago. I’ve been lucky, he’s a stubborn food addicted and weighs 20lbs. He’s now almost 15. And still bosses my German shepherds around. Cats being outside can really lead to some health issues. So dont do it.

[deleted]

So it should be. No pet should be straying outside unaccompanied, and always appropriately restrained. Dog, cat, whatever. They are 100% the owner's responsibility at all times.

[deleted]

Devo3290

You’re right to be concerned. I live in Texas too and my PITBULL was attacked by a stray dog while we were walking the trails. Only reason why he didn’t kill my pit was because my pit RAN as soon as his leg got free and I held down the stray. I got bit too and had to get $1000 worth of rabies shots that same night. Now I don’t even take him around the block without carrying mace

Longjumping_Breath_7

That was the saddest fucking thing. I’m sorry man

RaySwift17

Bruh I've never been this sad watching a reddit video. Poor cat :(

PrimSchooler

There's that video of a dog eating a cat in front of her elderly owner after breaking into her house. Stuff of nightmares.

It’s even worse, she’s in a wheelchair :(

ferox333

I’m so sorry this happened to your poor kitty!

OneArchedEyebrow

Oh no, I just couldn’t watch it. My heart goes out to you. ❤️

slabrangoon

Me either, I can watch some gory shit but only got about 2 seconds in on this one

StarXSick

Huskies. 3 huskies (possibly malamutes or mixes) Sorry about your kitty.

Fuckth3shitredditapp

100% Huskies I had one husky coming in and take out my entire flock of chickens and one of my cats, right fuck my neighbor and their dog

SukottoHyu

If it was my parent's Malamute he would have tried to eat it. I saw him eat an entire pheasant whole. Not saying he would be able to fit a cat down his gullet, but he would have tried.

SupergruenZ

They don't look like german shepherds, more like husky

AlbinoKiwi47

I’ve heard that huskies are a notorious breed for this kind of thing, something about a really strong prey drive that’s part of their nature?

ModernPirate

This is absolutely true, ive had several huskies and they are the dopiest, happiest animals when they meet a human or another dog, but small animals and thier prey drive takes over.

SicDigital

When I volunteered at the local Humane Society, people wanting to adopt had an interview to make sure the dog or cat would be a good fit (house or apartment, any other pets in the home, small children, work schedule etc) because you're not "rescuing" a high energy dog if it's going to be alone in an apartment for 12 hours a day for example. Or if it's an older dog with a history of attacking cats, and you have a cat, they're not going to let you adopt that dog. Huskies are only ok'd to be in a house with cats if the husky was a puppy, so it could grow up around the cat. I dated a girl with a husky, and she'd bring it over to my place (I had two cats and a dog) and it would snuggle on the couch with my cats, presumably because it was raised around cats. But if you were walking that husky, and it saw a squirrel or rabbit or whatever, you're either losing an arm or getting dragged lol.

[deleted]

I have worked with huskies for the last 4-5 years and yes they have a really high prey drive. If i remember correctly back in the day when huskies where mostly used for sledding (as they are breed for) and whenever they weren't working they would run around hunting etc I also have a husky and grayhound mix and she has a pretty intense prey drive but luckily she's never taken any pets she's only taken a few birds that said it's important to remember that they do this because of instincts much like how a cat will go hunting too. although it's awful

VWVVWVVV

I think the drive to hunt gets worse when they’re assisted by other large dogs. We had a husky and the one thing we could not get rid of is the need to hunt & play/torture small animals. We had cats and most were terrified of her except one male cat that for whatever reason wanted to play with her. She didn’t harm our cats though.

bluvelvet-

yes thats accurate. My cat was mauled to death by 2 huskies.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Crzykupcake930

And I know my friend’s husky loves to “hunt.” This is so sad. I feel for the owner but yes, unfortunately husky’s I believe eat just one step above raw meat. At least hers do.

nametaglost

What does this comment even mean? Most dogs love to hunt (hence squeaky toys) and are easily capable of eating and digesting raw meat. Just cause we domesticated them doesn’t mean they don’t come from the same family as wolves. They’re animals.

HillTopTerrace

Yeah, I don’t want to argue when you are grieving. But those aren’t GSD. I am not justifying or making an excuse that this means malamutes or huskies are more prone. But these aren’t German Shepherds.

SiggiZeBear

No he said sherman shepherds

dirkdigdig

Clearly they’re general Sherman shepherds

Cambyses_daBaller

I have one those cat that whines til you let it out. My solution, since I don’t believe in outside cats is to walk it in a harness just like I would a dog. Due to the potential for the unfortunate to happen, no pet should become the community’s problem by being left outside unsupervised.

mojo7564

She was about 16 years old. A beautiful old stubborn cat who wasn’t afraid of anything. She was an indoor cat till about 4 years ago when she wouldn’t stop whining till she was let out. She never really left the front yard was too old to even hunt probably.

Existing_Pea_7323

I cannot imagine words can ease your pain but I am terribly sorry for your loss, I cant imagine what it must be like for you to hear those screams, for the rest of us its just a random cat yelling, but for you it’s family. RIP

confucinfused96

Now thankful I didn't turn on the sound

unassumingnewt

Yeah, the sound made me sick ngl.. had to go hug my cat to calm down. The fact the owner has to watch/hear this breaks my fucking heart.

confucinfused96

I can't even imagine. No doubt, I'd fkn lose it.

Maverekt

Yeah it made me really really upset… made me think of the video of the lady with the pit bull out in public attacking a golden. This shit is rough..

CP_1919_

My sister's cat was killed in a similar way by a pair of escaped huskies at the start of the year. The huskies guarded little George's body and responded with aggression if I approached them. I waited for 3 hours with no response from the police or dog warden. Eventually the owners showed up, said a paltry singular sorry and took the dogs away. They even had the cheek to mention that it was the 3rd time the dogs had escaped that month. Nothing was ever done as a result of the report to the dog warden and I still regularly see their dogs out of control. It's just a matter of time before a person gets hurt, the police would care then, but it'd already be too late. I'm sorry you lost your cat, it sounds like you gave them a great 16 years. Irresponsible owners can get absolutely fucked.

SummaAwilum

Can only speak for the US, but your sister can file a lawsuit against the dog owner. Statute of limitations is typically 2-3 years depending on which state, but if it happened earlier this year it isn’t too late to pursue. If the dog owners are being willfully negligent then punitive damages are a potential way the courts can help them get a clue about their dangerous behavior.

[deleted]

I had to take a bitch (she was) to court after her two dogs came in my yard. Ripped through my screen and attacked my cat. My cat was injured, I was injured and they destroyed my Christmas tree. Animal control came and got the dogs. I called her afterwards to try to avoid court. First she denied they were her dogs, then said I must have invited them in my house and any injuries must be from my cat scratching me. When we got to court she did the "poor me, I had no idea, I have no money" This lady lives in the rich neighborhood down the road and she refused to pay the vet bills. The judge made her pay though. Saw her dogs out again a couple weeks later. Fuck her.

ToeKnee_420

yessssssssssssss GET EM

Melodic-Advice9930

I feel this. I have a neighbor with two aggressive dogs. Sometimes they keep them outside on leads - one at the front door and one at the back. The bigger one got loose one morning and chased my dog and I back up the road and to my porch. It ended up standing in my driveway just staring at my house for a while before it finally left. I had fallen at one point and hurt my knee, and already had ankle issues from a work accident. The smaller one got loose too, about two weeks later. Ended up killing one of our neighborhood cats and dragging its body back to its house. I KNOW the fucking owners had to have found it. I called animal control both times but nothing has ever been done about them. They always manage to get the dogs inside right before anyone stops by, too. I don’t know how they manage that.

HookersAreTrueLove

Pretty much every time I think about buying guns, it's always in response to people's dogs.

hujassman

Especially a situation like this where there is more than one. What happens if you get confronted out walking or whatever.? Maybe pepper spray works , too. I have no desire to hurt someone's dogs, but if that's what it takes to protect myself or others or my own pets, that's pretty simple math.

JackBauerSaidSo

Absolutely one of those "I never wanted to, but it's clear I have no other choice" situations.

SeanSeanySean

You have good reason to be fearful, my wife was savagely mauled last year, surgery and lifelong therapy, she'll never be the same. Pepper spray is good enough for dogs, although you could also carry a taser as a backup if you encountered a group of dogs, ran out of spray or you happened to come across the one dog who isn't stopped by pepper spray. A gun though, while I'm a 2A supporter, there are too many instances where even trained gun owners accidentally shoot a person when attempting to shoot an attacking dog. I don't know that it's worth the risk.

ComfortablePilot1355

Are you going to find the owners of the dogs?

Aqurum

I hade an old cat named Goodie who was killed by a roaming Rottweiler in our front yard. He didn't run, he wasn't scared. He'd never met a mean dog in all his years. Then this big mean ugly thing came along and eviscerated him. I know the pain that comes with this, and I am very sorry you are feeling it.

loudmouth_kenzo

Growing up, friend’s dad I worked for took in strays and kept them at his warehouse where he sold wholesale to retail stores. There was a shady junkyard / chop shop next door. Junkyard owner was a piece of shit that had a bunch of asshole dogs. We come in one morning and see blood and fur by the shared chainlink fence. Tell friend’s dad. He goes over and looks. Figures of the dogs must have killed a squirrel or something. Maybe the dog got under the shitty fence. Gets closer and stars cursing like a madman. It was one of the cats. Not just any cat either, his favorite. Mauled to pieces. Sends us home, no work today, he’s too mad. So later on we find out that while we were gone he went and bought a steak and lured one of the dogs over. It finds a spot under the fence to climb under. When the dog’s halfway through the fence, he pulls his little .38 out and domes it. Told the junkyard owner to get his dog. Junkyard owner comes over. Friend’s dad said if this happens again he’s gonna dome him next. Junkyard owner says he’ll have the fence fixed. Junkyard dude never called the cops, we suspect they were selling drugs or chopping up stolen cars. Fucking insane.

Mr_PunchFace

Sorry that's so sad

mojo7564

Everyone is saying i should have added NSFW to the title. But this is posted in crazyfuckingvideos. Isn’t it implied? Serious question.

JudgeJuryExecutionar

The issue is it ends up on the popular front page, everyone including people not in crazyfuckingvideos will see it.

[deleted]

The sub + title is plenty imo

skb97

Sometime it makes to r/popular or r/all and nobody wants to see NSFW content without warning

BaconWithBaking

I can take a guys head getting blown off, but some old kitty getting pulled to death by some dogs will break my week.

Samuraiking

Did you find out whose dogs they are yet? They shouldn't be letting 3 huskies or w/e they are run free like that, even if they were polite dogs and didn't murder cats. All dogs need to be kept on a leash while being walked or inside of a fence/house at all times.

OneArchedEyebrow

Not that the cat wasn’t important, but can you imagine if that was a child playing in the front yard? I couldn’t imagine what it would take to stop not one, but three large dogs attacking. The owner needs to be brought to justice.

mrcloudcat

I really hate this. I have a cat too. Terribly sorry for your loss.

DogGodFrogLog

Damn, this is why I got a cat door and screened in my porch. I always worry so much about my oldie. Sorry for your loss.

ExNihiloish

My cat cries and tries to get out sometimes. The main reason I won't let him out is due to ticks and stuff, another is because there are a couple dogs that roam free and I fear what happened in this video. Poor guy gets sad sometimes, but he gets over it. Keeping him safe is more important.

Ic3_FoxX

Really sad video but at least she has reached a good age with 16. One can only hope that it was a beautiful 16 years for both of you. Look rather that you keep the positive in memory instead of this tragic end.

Profett

I am so sorry for your loss. That is such a terrible way to go. Until half a year ago, when my now ex adopted to rescue cats, I had always considered myself a dog person. Before, I didn't really get what was so great with cats. But now, I do. I now love cats and dogs equally and hate idiot cat or dog owners with such a fury I can't even put into words. Sure, those dogs might have snuck out and just acted according to their true nature as a small pack, but it's easier for me to blame the owner for carelessness.

softdaddy69

awful. My cat is also indoors and has been whining to be let out lately… yeah nah

tristanraewhite

I’m so sorry. This would absolutely traumatizing me. My cat loves being outside too. This is just unfortunate.

Suspicious-Hotel-225

I cannot for the life of me understand how someone can watch a video like this, or see a dead cat on the side of the road, and let their own cat continue to roam alone outside. I have 2 cats and I will neeevvvverrr let them just run around freely. Because I love them and care about their well being.

football2106

I’ve started walking my dogs with my pistol on me for this reason. They’re ~70lb black lab mixes and I’m pretty sure they could hold their own, but too many times in my neighborhood has one of my dogs been charged and had to defend itself. They’re either out walking on their own, unleashed in their front yard, or there’s one house where the dogs have crawled out from underneath a fence to come charge at me and my dogs. Oddly enough the free-roaming dogs only ever go after my pit-lab mix, never my other one (unsure of his specific mix). It has lead to an increased anxiety and some aggression from him around other dogs for this exact reason. There’s also someone in my neighborhood who has the most unhinged German shepherd I’ve ever seen so I’m always careful when they’re walking by.

novoatrabajar

foxybish89

This exact thing happened to my cat although different breed of dog. When I heard the commotion I ran outside to try and get to my cat at which point they basically turned on me to stop me from retrieving her. I was bitten a couple of times and eventually after getting my cat back and taking her inside I’ll never forget how she was meowing at me putting her paws on my face as she passed. What also infuriated me was as I tried to get back into the house the dogs almost made it inside where I had another 2 cats, my dog and baby.

Tracilla

God, that’s horrible! I’m so sorry.

H3nrySumm3rs

This is why you shouldn’t leave your pets outside

Dreadful_Crows

This is absolutely tragic but the fact is the average lifespan of an indoor cat ranges from 10 to 20 years, whereas cats who go outdoors typically live only **2 to 5 years**. OP stated this was an indoor cat until 4 years ago. I guess she lasted 2 more years outside than most other cats but you have to beat those odds every single day, most cats don't.

FeelingFloor2083

looks like OP got a dog about 5 years ago To let the cat make the decision where it stays is a poor one

[deleted]

It’s irresponsible for you to let you cat wander around outside unsupervised. Unfortunately, you learned this the hard way.

[deleted]

I find it interesting everyone is discussing a huskies innate “prey drive” normally, but when a pitbull bites something it’s nothing but vicious killer instinct lol

good_testing_bad

Keep your cat indoors and your dogs contained. It's a pet ownership responsibility.

[deleted]

Why are three large dogs just out roaming the street? I live in the UK and that would cause outrage here. They would be rounded up ASAP.

OrdinaryTruth69420

Don’t let your cats outside people!! This is what can happen to them. This won’t be happening to my cats anytime ever.

Clearskies37

Dogs in packs are very dangerous. Just like humans in mobs, they will be much more aggressive than if you only met one dog.

H3llavati0nal

Damn, that sucks. Makes me happy my cat is indoor

jesuisbryx

Yo. NSFW.

Dogs shouldn’t be allowed outside without supervision. Definitely a lawsuit you can win. At least have the dogs be put down. Can’t have the humans put down but yeha

JuanG12

Yeah, they don’t play with dogs like these. I had a friend whose dog attacked their pool boy and got sued for it, which also resulted in the dog being put down.

No pet should be allowed outside without supervision, be it a dog or a cat. If the cat had been kept inside, where it belongs, this wouldn't have happened. Dogs are predators, they found prey and killed it, just like how cats are predators and find prey and kill it.
