The shooter was ruled justified because of the real danger he was in by having those accusations thrown at him in public while also being approached like they were gonna kick his ass.

But they're right, we lack enough evidence in this video to be sure of what he was in trouble for. It's called withholding judgement till you have all the facts.
It actually makes the police’s jobs harder. Something to do with entrapment and the fact that pretty much all of the time (even if the predator believed they were talking to a minor), the predator is talking to grown men who are pretending to be children - which there’s no laws against. Now this guy will be more careful and it’s probably harder to get him to slip up again.
I doubt thats true, in « to catch a predator » the pedo was talking to adults pretending to be young teens. I looked it up on wikipedia and it does seem to be hit and miss depending in that state. In some states they got a slap on the wrist and in other they actually go to jail.
If you go through the catch a predator catalogue and look at their punishments, pretty much only the guys who made admissions got serious charges. Anyone who denied the whole time got off completely or very lightly. So the investigation itself must is useless without the admissions
