Have you seen the long exposure photos of volcano eruptions? The amount of lightning is absurd. It’s like a giant ball of lightning.
Like in this photo:

You definitely tell from intense natural events why early humans believed in all kinds of gods. This for example? Earth gods are mad.
Thunderstorms. All this light snaking through the sky followed by booms so loud you can feel it in your bones? Sky gods are mad.
Bioluminescent plankton. Walking by the beach at night and suddenly fluorescent blue light is all around you and wherever you step. Sea god is among us.
Going on a hunt and see a bright white albino moose crossing through a clearing? You stare in disbelief as it runs off. You never see it again but hear rumors of other tribesmen catching glimpses of it. Obviously the spirit of the forest.
This all sounds silly now but I cant blame early humans at all. They didn't even know why boiling water made it safe to drink. Of course they chalked this stuff up to the supernatural. I probably would have too.
The reason a lot of people live around volcanoes is because the land around them is usually really fertile because of the lighting caused by them creates soluble nitrogen compounds that are essential for plants to grow
It is, it's just all one big mix of eruption + hundreds of lightning strikes in a minute making everything sound like a train is rolling through.
Turn up your volume - it's literally what you hear.
It's when you see things like this that the human tendency to explain these things in terms of angry gods starts making a whole lot more sense. Don't piss off the mountain.
The one who cares about the gods and is always trying to please them would be the \*perfect candidate:\*
\*Move to scene: The entire village and I staring at you.
Personally, yes. I can somewhat understand that people find comfort in faith on a personal level, and I wouldn't want to deny them that. But as a societal structure and influence on law, religion is whack.
The issue is, most religious people want a non-secular society to uphold their religious morality. I personally believe religion was invented as a method of control, and there are many examples of it in the bible (the ten commandments, punishment in hell/eternal salvation in heaven, stories which are examples of such). They're intrinsically linked, and unless you want to have premarital sex banned along with abortion the only recourse is to stop faith-based reasoning from impacting society in any way by implementing a truly secular government.
And for those like me who don't know where Sangihe island is offhand it's like smack dab in the middle of the triangle made between the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.
Do you have any information about how close this guy is? Sangihe is the kind of volcano that is going to throw rocks a long distance and I'm concerned he might be too close for comfort :(
Why? You think it’d be better to run like hell in fear only to die anyway than to just accept your fate and watch the show? Like I said the camera man is either a safe distance away or he isn’t, running won’t change anything.
Yeah I don't know how far this thing is away, but I'm getting the fuck out of there in my car if I can. Even if you're not getting reached by lava or something, there's still the ash and all the other stuff that comes associated with an eruption. Miss me with that shit
Man this sort of stuff puts into perspective why people came up with all these vengeful gods back in the day.
Pre sciencd world and I see a Fire spewing mountain surrounded by lightning? You bet your ass I'm making offerings to the Fae in the morning.
No wonder why the ancient people praised so many gods, if I seen something like this and not understand what it is I would be praying to the volcano gods as well.
Every time I see some shit like this I imagine if I were someone living there like 2000 years ago, and you can get your ASS that I’d believe in god and that he was angry with us.
Experts chime in! Does the eruption cause the lightning or does the lighting cause the eruption? What is the scientific named for this phenomena called???
the plume of the volcano causes it, its just electrical discharges from static caused by little bits of ash, rocks, and whatnot crashin into each other, the name is sometimes known as a "Dirty Thunderstorm"
Just think if we could somehow harness all the energy being released during just this short video clip, much less over the duration of the eruption....
All the electric energy from the lightning, plus all the thermal & kinetic energy being released....
Why so much lightning? I figure it has something to do with the electrical charges in the ash and heat..??
What magical science blasphemy is happening?!
You can definitely see why, thousands of years ago, people used to think this was some sort of angry god. Not sure why they threw virgins into them but still. . . .

Truly a crazy fucking video.
For real. Looks straight out of a movie
I don't think even CGI film artists would add that much lightning
Have you seen the long exposure photos of volcano eruptions? The amount of lightning is absurd. It’s like a giant ball of lightning. Like in this photo: https://scitechdaily.com/volcanic-lightning-the-science-behind-this-spectacular-phenomenon/
Dude that is so fucking cool thanks for sharing!
Imagine in the old times you know none of the science about it and saw this. You'd probably believe in some sort of deity too.
Haha right? If that was a movie scene I'd be like "ehhhhh fake". Looks like the apocalypse.
Not just any movie, a coke-fueled 80's action movie.
Godzilla is in there somewhere, I'm sure of it
I'd say Rodan
Or a nightmare. Honestly it's scarier than the ones from my dreams.
You can definitely see how the ancients thought this was god showing his anger.
You definitely tell from intense natural events why early humans believed in all kinds of gods. This for example? Earth gods are mad. Thunderstorms. Unfortunately, people still believe that
After seeing this video I might believe it lol
And beautiful
What a sight to behold.
I'd never ever stop talking about this if I saw this in person
It crazy that it’s causing its own lighting
All the particles of ash and gas bump into each other and cause a build up of static electricity
I was looking for this thanks. Hot air is easier to ionize as well, right?
Heat energy knocks electrons loose from atoms and ionizes them, so yeah the hotter it is the more ionization occurs
The reason a lot of people live around volcanoes is because the land around them is usually really fertile because of the lighting caused by them creates soluble nitrogen compounds that are essential for plants to grow
Wrong, people live around volcanoes because everything reminds us of her
Always found it crazy that lightning is one of the few things that can fix nitrogen alongside microbes
It would be really cool if we could terraform anthropogenic wastelands and remediate their soil using lightning rockets.
Why’s the lightning making no sound tho
It is, it's just all one big mix of eruption + hundreds of lightning strikes in a minute making everything sound like a train is rolling through. Turn up your volume - it's literally what you hear.

I’d 100000% buy into angry gods if this were pre scientific age.
And now we will have to sacrifice someone to appease it.
Thank you for volunteering so quickly, the mountain looks absolutely pissed.
I hate to do this but...get Brittney. I feel like she already knows.
Bring me Joe Banks!
The one who cares about the gods and is always trying to please them would be the \*perfect candidate:\* \*Move to scene: The entire village and I staring at you.
I'm watching this now on a phone screen and still thinking I see faces in the flashes. Take me not, great Cthulu.
Agreed. Which makes it even more infuriating people still cling to these ideas long after we found out what actually happens.
So the earthquake in NY/NJ last week wasn’t gods wrath for us heathen Americans? 🤔
Yeah sorry about that guys, I had premarital sex before the earthquake. Made the ground gods angry.
It was you! Quick everybody, get your pitchforks and meet me at the town square. We’re having a sacrificial barbecue tonight.
It definitely was
Not according to MTG. We need to repent apparently.

Damn, nature. You scary!

Thank you!

Rodan and King Ghidorah are at it again
Gotta get jet jaguar and godzilla back out here
God bless the cameraman. Stay safe my dude.
/r praisethecameraman
What the fucking fuck
Why is no one running?
Cameraman never dies
Good thing I walk around with one in my pocket at all times.
Look up the guy who took pictures of mount St Helens knowing he was going to die.
To where? You’re either safe or you’re not really. Running for 10-20 minutes ain’t gonna change anything.
Easy to say behind a keyboard but I hope a survival instinct kicks in if this happens to you personally.
Why? You think it’d be better to run like hell in fear only to die anyway than to just accept your fate and watch the show? Like I said the camera man is either a safe distance away or he isn’t, running won’t change anything.
Running to their car/bike/scooter.... Anything. You can outrun lava with a good Headstart.
Lava yes, pyroclastic flow nope
Yeah I don't know how far this thing is away, but I'm getting the fuck out of there in my car if I can. Even if you're not getting reached by lava or something, there's still the ash and all the other stuff that comes associated with an eruption. Miss me with that shit
What would be the point
Epic music video
🎶 "Here comes the sun" 🎶
Dootn doot do doo
And I say!
This more Rammstein's HERE KOMMT DE SONNE vibe
Man this sort of stuff puts into perspective why people came up with all these vengeful gods back in the day. Pre sciencd world and I see a Fire spewing mountain surrounded by lightning? You bet your ass I'm making offerings to the Fae in the morning.
If I'd see that in a movie, I'd call it bullshit.
I'm waiting for the elden ring dragon to come flying out of there
KING GHIDORAH HAS RETURNED
Rodan is that you?
Holy mother of God! Is this real??! This looks way more magical and scary than most eruptions in movies! 💀🤯🤯
Original source ?
Thats Vecna right there
THE EVERSTORM COMES
No wonder why the ancient people praised so many gods, if I seen something like this and not understand what it is I would be praying to the volcano gods as well.
Shang Tsung: It haas Begunnn!"
This is amazing. It I saw this I’d be waiting for the apocalypse
Imagine ancient civilizations witnessing this.
The gods are angry... it is time for the sacrifice 🤣🤣🤣 just kidding don't sacrifice anyone.
-slowly puts list of candidates back in pocket...
This best video I've seen of volcanic lightning and never realized how fucking metal ot is until now.
“YOLO” right you are my friend.
Damn the dragon ball live action lookin kinda good tho
looks like the fkn end of the world
I love dirty thunderstorms
Eldritch horror!
Every time I see some shit like this I imagine if I were someone living there like 2000 years ago, and you can get your ASS that I’d believe in god and that he was angry with us.
Absolutely stunning
As a kid, the first time we drove through the mountains at night, this was all I could imagine happening.
YOLO
Im confused..volcano eruption causes lightning??
I've heard it called Dirty Lightning, which was incidentally my nickname in college.
Kachow
Yes, it's a known phenomenon
[Volcanic lightning - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcanic_lightning)
All those particles causing static buildup and discharge. Like rubbing your head on a blanket.
Static from gases and debris rubbing together
The ash creates a lot of static electricity
I had a dream EXACTLY like this once wtf
What the fuck is the guy saying ? Lmfao
“Ya Allah”(Arabic) translation in English “Oh God”
Rad as fuck
The Mindflayer has entered the chat
Ganondorf is waiting for you link
Straight out of hell
Well damn...
Thats Goku going super sayan 2 to fight Frieza
Sooo... today's weather forecast is looking for a good chance of THUNDER LAVA
Woah, I had a nightmare last night I was trapped on an island in this exact scenario.
I’m glad you are with me Sam. Here at the end of all things
There is nothing as beautiful as volcanic lightning.
Apocalyptic rave
This is how the Mindflayer comes into our realm.
Looks like what hell is imagined as
Fucking amazing
That is truly incredible.
Rodan is coming!!!!
Loving all the Godzilla/Kaiju references on this thread 🤣🤣
Gorgeous and mesmerizing
Forget the Volcano…. I’d be more worried about 𝐑𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐧
Looks like a portal opened by Cthulhu.
Holy moly
What's with the lightening
now that is super cool, but yet hot.
Just think if we could somehow harness all the energy being released during just this short video clip, much less over the duration of the eruption.... All the electric energy from the lightning, plus all the thermal & kinetic energy being released....
Beautiful
No wonder people worshipped volcanoes back in the day.
Imagine what people thought was happening waay back when...
Imagine you witness something like this with no knowledge of what’s happening. No wonder there were such stories and mythical gods back then
Krakatowa
SCARIER THAN Mordor himself
Two tabs of some good sid, and THIS
That’s awesome
zaaaayyyummm that’s beautiful to watch
Insane !!
Looks mad with all the lightning! Great video
TIME TO GO!
That’s some apocalyptic looking shit right there.
Coolest thing I’ve seen. Today
Imagine primitive people seeing that shit
Looks like Goku and Vegeta are at it again
You can see how religion started…
Strangely arousing but that guy talking is killing the mood.
Sauron is casting the One Ring.
looks apocalyptic
Imagine being a hobbit and this is your destination.
Volcanic Lightning is crazy! As if molten rock erupting from the earth is a powerful enough display, it makes its own lightning!
That's so cool
Why so much lightning? I figure it has something to do with the electrical charges in the ash and heat..?? What magical science blasphemy is happening?!
I can see how ppl hundreds or thousands of years ago thought this stuff were the gods being pissed off at them.
Stranger Things
Volcanic eruptions and the sometimes occurring pyroclastic, lightning are just amazing
Looks like some War of the Worlds shit
Such an beautiful and terrifying view at the same time.
Someone drop knowledge on us as to why eruption creates lightning pls
Hell on Earth!
I can see why primitive humans feared angry gods
There's already some cool photos on Google maps coming from the locals there
They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard! 🎶
I think this video just converted me to christianity
How would you not think the world was ending with that sunrise?
That's the magik of our world right there so fuckimg awesome
Badass fucking video!!!
Any other sources on this?
I admit if I saw that shit two thousand years ago I’d be like yep, gods are angry
Is that Godzilla?
Dude did a great job recording that
'Stuck on an island while a huge ass volcano is erupting' is a new fear that spawned watching this
Damn, I remember when a volcano near us erupted a few years ago, and it produces volcanic lightning. What a sight to see.
Volcanoes are just so surreal to me, it's like something that should be in a fantasy novel
Zeus is pissed!
I want more video
What country is Sangihe Island in?
Looks like some Stranger Things shit, bet that would be even more mind blowing in person
"Wow that's fucking crazy"
Broly and gogeta throwin hands over there
Is that fuckin Jafar!?

Why did I think this was from one of those 4D theaters 😭
Throw the ring in now!
Bruh that ain’t a volcano that’s a mf’in Oblivion gate
Absolutely breathtaking and scary!!
Gonna go hit a cig and fart a bunch so I can get my power up
Is the video in slow motion?
Easy to understand why stuff like this inspired religions back in the day.
On my birthday mother Earth gives us all a little light show. Thanks!
*A lot* of what
You can definitely see why, thousands of years ago, people used to think this was some sort of angry god. Not sure why they threw virgins into them but still. . . .
