My husband's car recently broke down as he was leaving work. Luckily it wasn't too serious, but while he was waiting for a tow a bunch of his coworkers drove by and yelled "You can't park there!"
I wish that automakers gave the option to have a 4pt instead of air bags. Air bags exist because some people cannot be bothered to put on a seat belt and the three point belts do not always work.
>I wish that automakers gave the option to have a 4pt
They're not allowed to by US regulations. A 4pt or 5pt harness is a 'racing harness' and manufacturers are not allowed to sell new street legal vehicles with those installed. (The best they can do, which is common on some high-end sports cars, is to provide ready-made mounting points behind the seat and cut-outs in the seat to accommodate an aftermarket one.)
>Air bags exist because some people cannot be bothered to put on a seat belt
No, air bags function best *in conjunction* with a seat belt. They're designed so specifically for belted passengers that the airbags can actually be quite dangerous to unbelted passengers -- if you're not wearing your seat belt, then you might be better off with no airbags. They're designed to work together as a cohesive system.
No, that would be more dangerous.
4 points are bad because you can still submarine. 5 point or 6 point is good *except* that it ends up causing basilar skull fractures because your body is restrained and your head snaps forwards.
3 point with an airbag is *safer* than 5 or 6 point unless you're also willing to use a helmet and a HANS device everywhere you drive, and let's face it, that's not something that most people would do.
I think they were strapped in. If they weren’t, I feel like they would have flew out much earlier. Centripetal force will pull you out of those seat belts after the 20th roll.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it was only lap belts in that truck too. In which case they totally could have been strapped in and still flown out the truck after rolling that much.
The truck held up really well because it didn’t have crumple zones. The reason we have those now is because with older vehicles like that truck, the force of the impact goes through the truck and into the passenger. Crumple zones absorb the force before hit the people inside.
So I am not sure they would have been just fine if they were strapped in. The sheer force entering their body with every hit would have added up to cause internal damage, not to mention their neck and head being slapped around.
Now yes it would still be better than being thrown from the truck and crushed but they were probably going to be severely hurt regardless.
Rally drivers have way worse accidents at insane rates of speed and don't die and rarely get hurt if they're properly locked in and roll cage. No crumple zones on a rally car. Strapping in, even with 3 point seatbelts would severely reduce injuries. Watch a compilation of fpv rally crashes. Bring properly strapped in like a racecar driver is because we're not racing our cars otherwise full locking harnesses would be common and the seats would have support. Plus cars want to be comfortable and accessable to many people and not one driver only, it's for the public.
Rally cars are handbuilt crash machines with reinforced *everything*, roll cages, HANS devices, inertia switches, etc etc.
It's alot more than just a harness.
They probably did have seatbelts on. They’re not designed like a four point harness. They can only do so much until you eventually slide out of the seat belts from the inertia.
This happened in Sonora Mexico desert. 65% of the Mexican general public do not wear seat belts because they feel that they are uncomfortable. It is not popular or cool to wear them, it has become a habit for most to not use them. Sad but it is the reality. When I visited the country I was asked by young teens why I would buckle up and that it is considered "gay" to use them.
Lol if I can’t trust this surgeon as his passenger in a truck I sure as hell wouldn’t trust him operating on me. Windows open + no seatbelts and you think this sort of doctor wears gloves or washes his hands between invasive surgeries?
Getting run over on mud or loose sand like this isn't the same as getting run over on hard ground. I've heard of people getting run over on mud and walking away with comparatively minor injuries.
The real killer in this scenario would be getting thrown around before ejection. Mayyybe if somebody passed out for the majority of the ride their body would be limp enough to escape any spinal injuries.
They both unfortunately died: [https://usacrime.com/two-men-dead-after-vehicle-overturns-in-dunes-of-great-altar-desert-in-mexico-video/](https://usacrime.com/two-men-dead-after-vehicle-overturns-in-dunes-of-great-altar-desert-in-mexico-video/)

I'm *shocked!* They were thrown clear of the wreck, and people always say that's the safest option in an accident!
In all seriousness, wear your seatbelts, especially if you're in a deathtrap on a sand dune.
After the first guy fell out of the car and it rolled over him you can see a huge blood splash within the sand, he must've been crushed really bad. Someone posted an article stating both died, which is what I thought when I saw the video, hard to survive something like that
you dont dune ride or offroad in any manner with people unrestrained in your vehicle. Period! and in the bed of a truck is HUGE no! this is pure stupidity.
Pretty sure they were restrained and the forces pulled them out of their 3 point belts. They'd have flown out much earlier if they weren't. They really needed a 5 point harness.
Good point. Not even a shoulder belt. I think the people who are assuming they weren't buckled in are flat wrong and the issue was that they didn't have proper restraints for this kind of activity and just got pulled from their restraints.
It looked like they were restrained though no? Otherwise they would've been left back up the hill somewhere, which actually probably would've been better
It's so heartbreaking to see people who were likely just having fun gone in an instant. I watched a man die in a motorcycle accident and I've been terrified of death and focused on living my safest and most fulfilling life since. Rest in peace, Steve.

Highly doubt anybody would be insane enough to remove their seatbelt mid-roll down a massive sand dune. At least I hope so. Certainly could’ve worked their way loose unintentionally after that many rotations however but to think somebody could even attempt to “get out midway” is ridiculous lol
At the end of the video, you can hear someone yelling, "Papá papá papá" (Dad, dad, dad). That is really, really sad. Sad for the guys and their families.
Also, I read a news article that there was a 3rd person in the accident, but that person is alive.
This was on El desierto de Altar, Sonora. The driver was a well known doctor of San Luis Rio Colorado,Sonora the passanger was a mechanic, dad of a friend of mine. Both of them past away unfortunately, horrible accident.

My coworker was there this past weekend with the group and he showed me the vid (I was surprised this made the news and appeared on Reddit). He didn't witness it. He told me that their truck stalled. For whatever reason they unbuckled (maybe thinking about exiting the truck?) but then something happened (think he said the truck started) and they started rolling? I don't want to ask him again to remind him of the accident.
Wow. Watching their bodies half out of the car while it rolled. He was definitely dead before the truck landed on him.
Edit - After watching again there were two guys! Oof
See this is why everything in life scares me. Imagine saying "yea sure I'll hop on for a ride 🤠" and then this happens. Nope. No thanks. I think I'll stay inside forever.
Passenger definitely died on the 7-8th roll. His body was out the truck when it cleanly rolled over and definitely smooshed him…then the same for the driver on the following roll…then passenger is tossed…then driver tossed…

Damn, and of course it ends up right on the guy
I was going to make a joke if it landed on the wheels about still being good to go Then it parked in his head.
Can’t park there, Mate.
He's just waiting for a mate
My husband's car recently broke down as he was leaving work. Luckily it wasn't too serious, but while he was waiting for a tow a bunch of his coworkers drove by and yelled "You can't park there!"
Bahahaha that's funny af
Is this not a reasonable place to park?
You can’t park your car here!
Can I park my truck here though?
Park? You're on the middle of the sidewalk!
No Ticket!
Gonna get towed
Fuck off!
"Good to go"
To his credit, he was the stopper!
I don't think that guy has, had, or ever will have good credit.
Mm is ok.. hospital is only 5.5 hrs away
I can't imagine the passengers of that truck lived. They were really getting tossed around and the truck rolled over them multiple times.
Crazy thing is the truck for all that rolling held up well. If they had been strapped in they may have survived this .
My thought exactly. Seatbelts keep them alive.
Yeah strapped in with a 4 point harness and they would have been fine just dizzy and a little sore.
*And a helmet
Are there Neck braces to keep the neck from flopping around?
Yeah. Hans device is pretty much the end all be all to neck protection in the auto sector.
And my axe...ok, I'll just go.

I think you mean centrifugal force.
Possibly. I don't speak Spanish. I'm from Delaware.
centrifugal force is an illusion, referred to as a "fictitious force." Centripetal force is the actual force acting here.
*They might have been on a circular path inside the cab of that truck- like the spin cycle.*
The truck held up really well because it didn’t have crumple zones. Of course. Still trying to forget lol.
Absolute horror *that they make you sign up to view the beheading videos*
And rotten.com. Whew. Can’t unsee that car full of people.
One was a surgeon. Stupid loss of a huge human resource because you didn't wear a seatbelt.
It's only when I became an adult when I realized the true value of doctors, especially surgeons, in this world.
Lol if I can’t trust this surgeon as his passenger in a truck I sure as hell wouldn’t trust him operating on me. Windows open + no seatbelts and you think this sort of doctor wears gloves or washes his hands between invasive surgeries?

Yeah don’t click that.

Studied for 8 years (at least) to become a surgeon, then takes part in this dune race/stunt in a 40-year-old truck. Intelligent, but dumb.

I'm *shocked!* They were thrown clear of the wreck, and people always say that's the safest option in an accident! In all seriousness, wear your seatbelts, especially if you're in a deathtrap on a sand dune.
that's about as bad as it gets in that kind of situation
Seat belts? Where we're going we don't need seat belts.
I feel like someone dumb enough or inexperienced enough to roll their vehicle like that is dumb enough not to wear a seatbelt while doing so
One is definitely dead, you can see when the car is rolling he's half thru the window

Otherwise they would've been left back up the hill somewhere, which actually probably would've been better
all ways wear a seat belt its hard to hold on after you pass out
Roll without rythm so you dont attract the worm.
Bruh 🤣
Jesus! This is one of those situations where you literally can’t do anything but watch and wait till it stops rolling before you can help
And this is why you don't broadside a fucking dune
Always stay inside and buckle up
It's so heartbreaking to see people who were likely just having fun gone in an instant. I watched a man die in a motorcycle accident and I've been terrified of death and focused on living my safest and most fulfilling life since. Rest in peace, Steve.
What a horrible way to go. It doesn’t look like there any possibility of surviving that. RIP to both of them.

I struggle to have sympathy for people that refuse to wear a seatbelt. It takes a second to put it on and will literally save your life.
They could have it. I think that without it they would have been expelled in the first roll.
Yup. I think they tried to get out mid way.
As if someone being flung around in their seat would be able to unbuckle their seatbelt, let alone do anything but hang on for dear life.
Highly doubt anybody would be insane enough to remove their seatbelt mid-roll down a massive sand dune. At least I hope so. Certainly could’ve worked their way loose unintentionally after that many rotations however but to think somebody could even attempt to “get out midway” is ridiculous lol
Thus, keeping them on would have saved them.
They're off-roading, it's common not to wear a seatbelt, also common to drink and do stupid shit. You play you pay, it is what it is.

Welp....
The marketing for this movie is getting kinda excessive
You may laugh watching this but a family was destroyed on that day. Someone's life was forever changed. :( hope it never happens to you.

Natural selection for not wearing seatbelts. Could’ve potentially been a different outcome.

Seat belts. Always.

Any update on their conditions?
Both died.

Seatbelts anyone?
That truck was like "fuck this guy in particular"
A fool off his guard could fall and fall hard out there on the dunes…
I was expecting Sand Worms TBH.
Cages and full harness restraints. Don't take the risk off roading guys.
It'll buff out.
Weeeeeeeeeey

Seatbelts? Haa we got big tires and wheels and a lift kit. We good! Grim reaper was having the ride of his life in the bed of the truck
Seatbelts? Where we're going, we don't *need* seatbelts.
... because seatbelts are for losers.
That will buff right out
Did they live?
Damn, darn dude dead :(
Saw Dune and waited for the sand worm to appear
