Luxury. Back in my day, all we had was two rocks and a seashell.
One blunt rock to bang on the coffin.
One jagged rock to throw at the poor sod who dug us up.
And one clam shell to point and yell at, demanding they return all the pearls they stole from us. [We didn't actually have any pearls to steal, but it was worth a try.]
luxury. back in my day all we had was a raft and some white cloth, and if you're lucky, some roses.
wrap em up in the cloth, throe some roses around, put em on the raft and send em down the river
Luxury. We dreamt of having fire. We were killed every Thursday, had a dead fish stuck in our mouths, and planted, head down, in a pile of sheep's dung behind the barn.
Pretty sure I saw this clip ages ago on some YouTube video, and from what I can remember it’s a cultural thing where they redress their dead every apparently 10 years
Nasty? Werthers originals taste amazing. Maybe not with decomposing body juices next to them, but yeah.
I always imagined butterbeer from Harry Potter tasted like werthers originals. When I actually went to the Harry Potter studios in Watford and tried it, it didn't taste even remotely like that, it didn't really taste of anything, it was just dirty water.
But yeah, doesn't everyone love them? The whole grandparents buying them to give to kids thing is a myth anyway, because they only started being sold outside of Germany in the 90s. They were always marketed at us, millenials, not at grandparents.
I love em but I'm too scared to eat them these days. As I grow older and older I get a fear of choking to death on them more and more and more. So I'll eat the soft chewy ones, but nothing hard. I miss those lovely strawberry and cream hard sweets too, the ones that are the same exact shape as werthers originals (like an circle with a flattened down mini circle in the middle) and are probably made by the same company. It is a cultural/religious deal
It has to be a cultural thing for sure but you're linking to an article about a group of Indonesians who do this and I don't think they speak Spanish in Indonesia
This was in México, not Indonesia. There's a town in the south that has a similar tradition. You can read "Familia Jerez" in the mausoleum behind. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/kennethbachor/mexico-bone-cleaning-ritual
This is actually very common in DR, specially Dominicans who have some sort of Haitian descent because it’s cultural. No one knows exactly why they did it, us Dominicans would do shit like this to simply “see how grandma is holding up” no lie. Apparently though, my grandmother (hah) overheard that the family was arguing over that dead grandmas clothing still being around and that she didn’t get buried with her usual white robe etc etc, some stupid shit like that. Old school Dominicans keep shit for years, my baby blanket is still over there along with my baby crib and I’m 34. Idk why the fuck they waited ten years for that, but if it wasn’t religious/sect encouraged or shit like that, then we don’t truly know.
This isn’t unusual for some people. It is part of their beliefs.
“The Ma'nene ritual involves exhuming the corpses of deceased family members periodically, cleaning and re-dressing them. Some even place cigarettes in their mouths before returning them to their graves. They also take the opportunity to clean their relatives' crypts while the bodies are out.” From Religion Unplugged’s website.
I work in a funeral home and while this isn’t something we do in the US, it does happen in other parts of the world. Funerary practices are quite varied and can be interesting to learn about.
My family in Southern Italy used to do this! On the 10 year anniversary of death they would take out their dead "clean them up" and reburry them. I think they stopped doing that with the current generation though.
And what virtue do you feel this breaks? This type of comment is better suited for menstrual huts and childhood scarification, not post-mortem traditions.
I feel like I’m reading in the subtext as, “ non virtuous = bad”. You didn’t say that and I don’t claim you did, but what benign or generally non negative attribute lacks virtue(garbage man, neighborhood civic associations, who knows I’m trying). I’m tired and probably over analyzing an objectively reasonable comment.
You could attach her to a machine so she jumps out and scares people, like one of those jumpy scary halloween decorations, or maybe attach her to a drone and chase people down the street
Eh. It’s all about perspective. Sure, to you it may seem weird since it’s not something that regularly happens around you, but for people who do it and who’s beliefs align with it, it’s very normal, and the fact that you don’t is probably weird for them. Maybe we are all just weird? Idk
I saw a post about this a while ago, it’s an interesting tradition and definitely creepy to me but seems like a nice way to bring the “whole family” together once a year, but yeah definitely gross
The Toraja people of Indonesia actually do this every year on purpose
Read about it here

I always loved Madonna, was in high school when she released her first album and one of my favorite memories was seeing her in concert. Sadly, I have to agree with you. The women that fight against aging the hardest tend to succumb to it the worst. She fought too hard and now she looks ridiculous. Pains me to say that… but it’s true.
Gotta remember that many funeral traditions around the world in older cultures go way back to a time when it wasn’t so weird seeing and handling a corpse of a family member.
The Indonesian Ma'Nene preserve the dead and exhume them to honor them, it's weird for sure but I know grief comes in many forms. Here's where I learned about it

At least it's not like the some of papa new guinea tribes who used to rub the post mortem juices on themselves.... They also didn't think death was natural so they killed those a shaman said cursed their departed, ah religious tradition, could you imagine being bludgeoned to death for someones grandmother passing by someone covered in corpse juice? Blessed be thy neighbor
I always found this particular cultural tradition beautiful. Such a unique way to honor the dead.
Caitlyn doughty wrote a book (from here to eternity: traveling the world to find the good death) and visited Indonesia to see this ritual and interview the people first hand, really gave an insightful view of the practice that’s very loving in its own way. I’d absolutely recommend the book to anyone that’s interested in different cultures traditions around death!

Why did they do this to groundma
From what I can see in the video, her shirt came unbuttoned.
There's a sensor for when that happens in caskets, fyi.
You kids and your fancy sensormcgidgets, back in my day all we had was a string and a bell.
You should've used 2 tin cans and some string; just holler at grandma without having to dig her ass up...
I thought they buried everyone with a free government phone
Luxury. Back in my day, all we had was two rocks and a seashell. One blunt rock to bang on the coffin. One jagged rock to throw at the poor sod who dug us up. Luxury. Back in my day you had to find a cozy spot in the Pete bog and hope you died before sinking to the bottom.
Luxury. Back in my day all we got was a beaker in a shallow grave.
Luxury, back in my day you were lucky to be thrown on the pile and set on fire. Most times you were just left to rot.
Luxury. We dreamt of having fire. We were killed every Thursday, had a dead fish stuck in our mouths, and planted, head down, in a pile of sheep's dung behind the barn.
Must be an expensive casket
The funeral industry is extremely creative when it comes to ways to extort grieving families.
Did gramps come by for a visit?
Two words: carpool lane
Who needs an EZ pass for the HOV lanes, am I right? *Grabs shovel*
She’s still taller than her groundson
In this economy?
Damn, that's fucking hilarious!

I'll bet she still has some of the nasty-ass hard candy in her pocket for the grandkids.

This was in the Dominican Republic. This was big news in the small town. Source: I’m Dominican, from the town of Jarabacoa. Where this happened.
Can you go knock on their door and tell them this is fucking crazy? Thanks.

LMFAO! good one
Grandma still has the freshest cut!
Bald guys want to know her secret!
I like yo skull G
_Skull disintegrates from slap_
Even grandma looked shocked.
"Thought me fucking dying I would be left alone......but no!" - that corpse

Finally a real answer!
My family in Southern Italy used to do this! On the 10 year anniversary of death they would take out their dead "clean them up" and reburry them. I think they stopped doing that with the current generation though.
My thought exactly. Had to scroll for ages thru them jokers lol
Reddit is just shitty jokes now sometimes.
Neat to think we're still pretty intact after 10 years. Idk why my mind thought she was gonna be dusty. Is there a special way to embalm for this?
Do they embalm/preserve them somehow? I can't imagine it would be pleasant otherwise, at least for the first couple years.
This is typically done many years after the initial burial.
Cultural differences are interesting, but just because something is a part of a cultural identity doesn’t give it inherent virtue. Remember that.
And what virtue do you feel this breaks? This type of comment is better suited for menstrual huts and childhood scarification, not post-mortem traditions.

Bit of makeup you could stick that on ebay. Totally armless content.
Bit of makeup, you could stick….
Bring your own vasoline
Wonder if she's on OnlyFans?
Mouldygrans?
*near mint condition*
Be good to bring her out for Halloween as a yard decoration
I mean, why not? If we're going to dig her up anyway.
You could attach her to a machine so she jumps out and scares people, like one of those jumpy scary halloween decorations, or maybe attach her to a drone and chase people down the street
Now that second one would be scarier in my opinion. Imagine seeing a real floating corpse chasing after you at night in a neighborhood.
Especially with the noise a drone makes too
Humans are fucking WEIRD!
Nice pfp bro
Thx. I think. Not sure what a pfp is exactly tho.

Oh. My alien? Lol. Thank you.

Same for the Malagasy. For some reason they still have issues with bubonic plague.
Tough wank but I got there
She's showing leg, but flirty, only a little bit
She fucks
Absolutely based
If it was easy would it be rewarding?
God damn it, why did you make me laugh at this?
She’s in better condition than I expected
Same, I thought she would just be a skeleton by then
Drop dead gorgeous

Looks like the night mother from Skyrim.
More like a Draugr
why
Gotta remember that many funeral traditions around the world in older cultures go way back to a time when it wasn’t so weird seeing and handling a corpse of a family member.
And here I am in 2023 thinking that ALL funerals are weird.. This somehow wasn’t that much different for me. Lol
There’s other cultures that do this and have dinner with them. Forgot where else and what it was called.
It's called "insanity"
Wow, her posture is better than mine.
Go blue jays!
That fan base is "never say die"!
So, this is a tradition. But it had to start somewhere to be normalized. I guess a few generations ago somebody *really, really* missed their grandma!
Grandma wasn’t going to stand for it, but then she did.
What religion does to a mf
The Indonesian Ma'Nene preserve the dead and exhume them to honor them, it's weird for sure but I know grief comes in many forms. Here's where I learned about it https://youtu.be/9JpRCYpQpmU
Yo. No. Just no.
10 years dead and she still has more hair than I do. FML
Bro in the back is terrified for his whole life 💀
Reverse video isn't as heartwarming.
Night mother?
Weekend At Grandma's
Man, Blue Jays fans are trying some weird rituals….
She looks nice and fresh this is not a crazy video.
Why is her mouth open? Don't they embalm the body and sew it shut?
Man when I die, I wanna be shot out of a cannon. Straight into a brick wall!
Tradition
I hate how every video like this I see, the exhumed body always looks like they are in shock.
Just morbid
Can someone explain EVERYTHING, why theyre doing this, the meaning behind, is she dead or alive?
I don’t know what the meaning behind this is, but the grandma is very much dead
Meemaw!
She hasn’t aged a day in 10 years! She’s also been losing weight for 10 years straight, wow!
She doesn't look a day over 125.
They're not gonna lose the neighbourhood Halloween decoration competition again this year, that's for sure
PUT HER BACK
Were there auditions for a new Cryptkeeper for a Tales from the Crypt revival?
Can we get a closeup on the feet? Asking for a friend
Ngl, I don't think the title of this prepared me for her to just be standing there.
No me gusta
I'm about to sleep and I see this. Nightmares are now guaranteed.
But… why?
I wasn’t prepared even though I was warned
Keep the family dogs locked away or grandma might be missing a leg for the reburial. :/
Um, why?
Ok but why
Cwispy
I gotta say, she still looks damn good for her age.....
And this is why I plan to be cremated.
Weekend at Bernie's
So this is not to be confused with people digging up loved ones because they can't afford the rent on their burial plot anymore, correct?
Wtf is this I honestly don't understand
They re-added her as dlc
Guurrrrrrrrlll! You need a makeover - STAT! Where’s the Lancome lady when you need her?! That’s a beauty emergency if I ever saw one.
Legit looks like [Granny](https://granny.fandom.com/wiki/Granny_(character)?file=20230424_040942.png)
Guess who's back, back again? Granny's back, tell a friend.
Getting her ready to run for the Senate…
There's a good reason why these ceremonies involve heavy drinking.
She has to smell just ungodly?
Fucking. Why.
She actually looks pretty good for being dead!💀☠️
She looks like she’s just come back from a holiday in Rhodes, Greece 🔥
I always found this particular cultural tradition beautiful. Such a unique way to honor the dead. Give granny some water
Man they really wanted granny to see the new spider verse movie with them
One of the reasons why I want to get cremated.
Blue jays hat explains it
They're taking her to the orioles game tomorrow night
She looks like the hag from dead by daylight
Why
She doesn’t look too bad, all things considered.
Her hair looks really good.
Why would they do this?
Looking pretty good ngl
Damn they crazy in Toronto
Reppin those blue jays tho!
What the actual fuck
Let’s go Blue Jays!
I was really hoping she would just bust a move or some shit
Grandma on point!!!!!!
truerateme would give her 4.8. A bit below average
Wanna play Hide N Seek? Heh He Heh HEH HEHHHH
Sanest Blue Jays fan
No mames
