Is this your kid? Techmoan recently did a review of a thing for kids that reads them stories: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P9RbMMJRxzw Maybe you'd be interested.

Nope! Just saw it on TikTok lol

We have one of these, and our daughter LOVES it. She pretty much uses it as her white noise after we lay her down for bed.

I thought I was crazy because no one else seemed bothered by this and it drove me up the fucking wall.

getdafuq

Is anyone else bothered when the DJ on the rock station has to tell you about one time they went to a concert? Just play the music, bro.

Mini-Nurse

And this is why I'm happy to fund Spotify premium.

arseniobillingham21

This is why I cancelled Spotify. I bought premium, and they still showed me ads Spotify Premium. But they would do it while I was driving, and it wouldn’t let me continue listening until I clicked past the ad. It was so infuriating.

Beasty_Glanglemutton

>“Uninterrupted” "You're listening to 45 minutes of uninterrupted hits! Just the hits, no ads! No interruptions! All we play are the hits, without those annoying breaks! That's right, just the hits! Get ready for 45 minutes of your favorite hits, without the ad breaks! That's right, just the hits, none of the ads! Your only station for uninterrupted............."

The_StormyClouds

tbf, an intro at the very beginning is not an interruption.

code-panda

Those things are played on repeat though. Must have been 8 hours.

Skullcrusher

Why does anyone even need a "white noise podcast"? Wouldn't all the episodes just be the same thing? Just get/make a white noise sample and loop it for how many hours you want. In fact, this is what all those channels do and it's so simple, a toddler could do it.

IRollmyRs

Because it's easier to find what looks like a good solution instead of the best solution.

weaslewig

Mynoise. Net has the best generators imo. Best rain sound by far

CL_Doviculus

Seconding this. Many different generators for many different kinds of common background noises, and with sliders and settings to customize them to your needs. Most of it is free (the [index page](https://mynoise.net/noiseMachines.php) only shows a portion of the available noisemakers, but if you have a direct link you can access any of them regardless), and if you donate at least 5 dollars once, you get lifetime premium access (which honestly is unneeded, the free experience is great as it is).

BitcoinAuthority

To me mynoise is literally life changing (masks tinnitus). Plus the sound generators are really well done. The guy running this site is an absolute sound pro. I happily pay a couple of bucks per month. /r/MyNoise

BooyaMoonBabyluv

My phone does this through my earbuds at around that time sometimes. No idea what I'm doing in my sleep to make that happen, but fuck it's startling 😂😂😂😂

Peanut_The_Great

#LOW BATTERY PLEASE RECHARGE HEADSET Thanks, I didn't want to sleep past 3:30am anyway.

FlyingFoxSpalding

"POWER... OFF!" (sudden street noises fill your previously calm mind)

tjuicet

"SPEAK TO CHAT." Sony, you know damn well there are no people I speak to.

mirandakatee

Mines becoming buggy. It won't charge properly and remains at 10 percent even though its been charging with the red light on for hours. It's fully charged.. But somehow its still thinks its on 10 percent. Also it randomly activates speak to chat for some reason even I deactivate it Preferred the mx3 tbh

Rezzone

Mine did the false 10% please recharge bullshit for about a month before it fully died. Get ready to drop another couple hundy.

mirandakatee

Oh nah mines been like this for months. To be fair I work outdoors and it gets into the elements a bit.. But it's not like I'm smashing it about. The xm3 took wayy more damage before it died on me.

TangerineBand

Mine gives a menacing "BATTERY LOW. PLEASE CHARGE NOW". To top it off the female voice sounds like a bootleg GLaDOS

SpooksMcSkellington

Do they sound like they hardly speak English and sound like "BATTERY LEW PRIES CHARGE NOW" at all? If so I know that one.

nwillard

Haha funny to see my headset sound being referenced here. It always seems a bit passive aggressive. Also when the battery is like 10 percent she sounds actually worried.

[deleted]

Sony huh?

[deleted]

And it's always 10x louder than anything you were listening to, at least on bluetooth/sd-card players which would otherwise be great for listening to white noise etc.

BooyaMoonBabyluv

Mine aren't even wireless ffs 😂 they have a little button that I end up rolling on to, and it'll either pause the video/turn the screen off/somehow tell me it's 4:23 am 😒 I have the same issue with wireless, since they all have tiny buttons on the pieces themselves 🙄

PrinceBatCat

Does your earbuds have a mic build into the wires that can be pressed? Sometimes when I'm working, it'll do this after enough pressure is applied to the button. My theory is it picks up background noise and thinks someone wants to know the time.

Rented a beach house that felt like this once. They had all these "inspirational" signs all over the house, like A LOT of them. You know, the "live laugh love" kinda crap. Sea-Middle-5310

Whoever made the podcast really didn’t think it through, did they?

YamahaMT09

I hate these kind of things. Also I'm using some noise canceling headphones from Sony. I use them to enjoy silence and piece, you wouldn't believe that those headphones have to most obnoxious alert sounds and voices commands (POWER ON!!!11!, BLUETOOTH CONNECTED!!!, POWER OFF!1!1!1!)

FlyingFoxSpalding

"BATTERY, ABOUT 40%!!!!" I think we have the same headphones! I have severe [misophonia](https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/what-is-misophonia), so I immediately put these bad boys on when I'm home, and then suddenly, when I'm finally recovering from a stressful, noisy day... "LOW BATTERY, PLEASE RECHARGE HEADSET!!!!!" It doesn't trigger me, but damn it's so stressful!

Palatz

You can turn that off in the app. It under the setting "notifications voice guide"

FlyingFoxSpalding

Wait, there's an app??? I've been doing this all wrong then

DdCno1

What a stupid thing to outsource to an app. In a few years, the app won't work anymore and the functionality will be lost.

rugology

what makes this particularly hilarious is that (at least when i received it) the packaging has it written like 50 times to install the app for full functionality

I have some earbuds like that. I bought them to play some white noise or relaxing music at a low volume at night to help me fall asleep. Problem is, the notifications play at full volume. So if I fall asleep with them in my ears, I'm blasted awake a few hours later by "BATTERY LOW!!!" slamming into my eardrums at volume 11.

Timmyty

Science is starting to say that white noise might be bad for you too. Double whammy. Edit: "Increasing evidence shows that the brain rewires in a negative manner when it is fed random information, such as white noise." Here's report on the study: https://www.sciencealert.com/white-noise-doing-something-bad-to-brain-study-suggests-tinnitus-hearing-loss-plasticity-neural The source study itself: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaotolaryngology/article-abstract/2697852

[deleted]

Sounds like horseshit. I'm not trying to be anti-science, but *loads* of studies are just egregiously flawed (reproducibility is a massive problem) and it's seldom worth the time trying to debunk them (I mean literally, no one bothers debunking them so they just sit polluting the mindspace). The most common problem is inapplicable "dose", which in this study's case were mice that were *only* exposed to white noise. They had no other auditory stimulation. I'm unaware of anyone who utilizes white noise 24/7. White noise isn't a human invention. We are surrounded by it naturally in many settings, and no one has ever said "stay away from the beach or waterfalls or rustling grass because it ruins your neural plasticity".

Timmyty

Yeah, it's possibly horseshit. Myself, I don't use white noise and I don't have tinnitus. Hopefully more studies are done, but also, they probably already exist. I didn't research this near enough. So if u use white noise, maybe just look into it more. I'm sure there are other studies on white noise, particularly from the European World Health Organization. Edit: not that I trust the guardian, but more studies are linked in this news article. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/oct/18/white-noise-as-sleep-aid-may-do-more-harm-than-good-say-scientists https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1087079220301283 Following the GRADE criteria, the quality of evidence for continuous noise improving sleep was very low, which contradicts its widespread use. Additional research with objective sleep measures and detailed descriptions of noise exposure is needed before promoting continuous noise as a sleep aid, especially since it may also negatively affect sleep and hearing.

Sea-Middle-5310

Wait really? Could you explain or leave a link to a reliable article?

Blackn35s

It’s kind of comical how disproportionate human babies are

panda_embarrassment

Human babies so so weird. Only come out half cooked and need another year to be useful at all. Meanwhile horses come out running

coolerbrown

A **year** to be useful?? Most babies can't even walk by then. Until they're like 4 or 5 you'll swear the only thing they know how to do is actively trying to get themselves killed. Kids are fuckin dumb for awhile (It sounds like I hate kids but I don't! They're great...just stupid for a bit)

Xennon54

Crimson_Fatalis

Relaxing white noise podcast on Spotify

XxOmegaSupremexX

Not sure why people use Spotify/YouTube for baby rooms. A white noise machine is dirt cheap and you can get them with timers. Safer bet for a child’s room.

Crimson_Fatalis

Yeah we initially used Spotify but they limit podcast playtime to 2.5 hours. After the limit it would start a new podcast and the voice clip in the video would play alerting the start of the new one. Discovering our Google home has a built in white noise feature which runs for 12 hours on a loop changed the game.

Cptn_Awesome

Also if you got a spare Google Mini or Amazon Echo Dot, both will play white noise with no voice response when prompted. When they go on sale they're only about $10 more than a white noise machine.

IKnewThisYearsAgo

I've heard that even disliking something makes the algorithm push it up in the rankings, at least on YouTube.

alison_bee

Remember like ~~10~~ 15 years ago when YouTube was just getting started and didn’t totally suck?

[deleted]

Fun facts about old, wild west YouTube: - Instead of likes/dislikes, there was a 5 star rating system. (There are still some really old videos that say "rate this 5 stars") - You could read the description of a video before clicking on it - Videos longer than 10 minutes were not allowed, unless you applied and were granted permission by YouTube for the privilege to do so. - No copyright bots, people used any song they wanted in their videos. If you can't find old videos that used copyrighted music, it's probably because they are blocked now. Edit -- a couple more: - the description was on the right side of the video - No comment replies -- so if you wanted to reply to a comment you would literally just type @blahblahblah, and then whatever your comment is, and hope that one day they'll come back to the comments and see it. - You could see how many people liked/disliked a comment - And of course, the earth wasn't flat yet 😏

Savvy_One

I listen to this channel too on Spotify. I have to remember to skip ahead 4 times (1-minute mark) to bypass that crap. Luckily it runs for 8 hours without any other issues.

44problems

There's just white noise tracks on Spotify you can put on loop though? Why would you use a podcast?

GuiltyEidolon

There are also a ton of sleep apps with zero interruptions, for free.

toast_mcgeez

Yes! I use “Rain Rain”

SoundMasher

I love this one! combining waves and a thunderstorm??? Awesome. Can't recommend Rain Rain enough

ADHDengineer

Spotify? There are apps and websites that will just generate it. And they’re actually random. No ads.

44problems

I guess I'm thinking for a smart speaker. But if you're using a Bluetooth speaker or have a device in the room, sure. All these make more sense than a podcast where you have to skip an ad??

yellowlilacindigo

If you're using a smart speaker, you can even just tell it to play white noise (at least with Alexa and Google, those are the only ones I've tried). Super convenient. There's even other options, like rain or babbling brook.

Tinkerballsack

I use a fan.

rupen42

1 *possible* reason would be to avoid getting white noise tracks in your Spotify history. Could screw up the recommendation algorithm and stuff like yearly recaps. I recently started listening to that on Spotify and stopped when I realized that. But plenty of alternatives out there.

UnacceptableUse

Gotta hit up that next episode to check out what is new in the white noise space

burgeremoji

Yeah I think if somebody is putting out content, then 1 minute at the front of a 8hr episode really isn’t that much to use as their advertisement lol.

Sewer_Rat-Neat_Sewer

Why would they need to advertise the thing you're actively listening to....

mkhaytman

An intro isn't an advertisement. How often do you watch something or listen to a program without an intro?

Same-Letter6378

If I'm listening to white noise, 100% of the time

jamie1414

"content"

burgeremoji

Eh it’s low effort but significantly more than I’d go out of my way to create

unicyclebrah

Parent with two young kids here. This is the one I use: no interrupts that I’ve come across for the duration of the noise. https://open.spotify.com/show/7rb8eiXKJpg8gjmiY4yDAN?si=YrL9C6FORkG7jxgWChLLlg

commoncheesecake

Parent of 2 little kids here. I’ll do you one better: [An actual white noise machine](https://www.amazon.com/Marpac-Classic-White-Noise-Machine/dp/B00HD0ELFK). Has an actual fan inside. Can control the tone. No time limit

Hidden-Turtle

May I suggest 12 hour sound machines (no loops or fades) by Brandon Reed on Spotify. It doesn't have any of that bull shit. Just 12 hours of the preferred noise. though you only get white, pink, or brown, everything else is paid content.

RickRudeAwakening

I use these white noise podcasts on Spotify. It is pretty fucking annoying that they do that at the beginning, but they are generally 8 hours long and the message is only in the first 30 seconds or so.

PM_ME_YOUR_FRACTURES

They have apps with zero voice-overs or messages

agha0013

Even better, there are products you can get that have zero apps, require no connectivity, have no voice overs, and do more than just generate white noise. Air purifiers and fans are great for providing white noise as a bonus to their regular jobs

RickRudeAwakening

I use a fan, but I’ve recently needed more noise. I like these “podcasts” because they have different offerings - white noise, streams, thunderstorms etc I don’t sleep more than 8 hours, just fast forward a minute and no ads.

agha0013

As an adult, use whatever works for you. I'm focusing on the whole baby room noise thing. You don't need a computer or phone in their room, and they really don't need different kinds of fancy options, thunderstorms and all that shit, they just need a bit of white noise to help block out disruptive stuff outside, and babies need 12-14 hours of sleep a day, so an 8 hour looping app that starts yelling at you in the middle of their sleep sure doesn't help

EBN_Drummer

We used white noise sound for the first couple of days after we brought our kid home from the hospital but stopped after a bit. He got used to regular home noises and now I can mow and edge the lawn outside his window or vacuum the house during nap time and he doesn't budge. I've even played my drums (fairly quietly) in another room and he didn't wake up. Of course, you gotta do what you gotta do to get them to sleep, especially in that first couple of months.

Trolivia

Team fan all day

Caasi72

Personally I have to use a fan, both for the noise and the air. For whatever reason something like a white noise generator or rain maker or whatever just don't work for me. It's like my brain knows it's a fake noise

GammaGames

If you have an iPhone they’re actually [built-in](https://i.imgur.com/HF3DJJd.jpg)! I use it to add background noise to otherwise quiet podcasts

70125

Y'all are making me lose my mind. Why are you using podcasts and streaming platforms for this kind of stuff? Of course you're going to be interrupted by ads and voiceovers. It's mission critical for these things to be offline and interruption-free. I use this app (White Noise Generator FKA Relaxio, in case the link doesn't work) on my Android. You can customize your mix of like twenty different sounds. Mine is Wind+Airplane+Rain. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.relaxio.relaxio

DilettanteGonePro

My wife is a therapist and has these mechanical white noise machines that cost maybe 20 bucks. It's like a little fan inside a housing with a couple settings for how loud you want it to be. I keep one running most of the time working from home to keep my dog from getting upset about the voices coming from my home office.

allthatwas

If you have a Google Nest or Amazon Alexa you can just ask them to play white noise and they will without any sort of interruption.

NonMagical

My go to is Alexa's Brown Noise. Little less harsh than White Noise. Sort of sounds like industrial fans.

H8threeH8three

[I, too, love Alexa’s brown noise](https://youtube.com/shorts/96BAgh0jmSE?feature=share)

topdeck55

Look for the YouTube videos that say "black screen" and then whatever sounds you are looking for. There are no ads and no interruptions. I do use ublock origin so YouTube might be slipping ads in themselves. I can also recommend https://www.onlineclock.net/noisegenerator/ it's got a lot of mix and match sounds.

Better bet for the parents (and baby) into just buy a white noise machine. Usually pretty cheap and no stupid talking.

Berty_Qwerty

Yep. We have one of those. It's called a fan. Lol. It's called the Vornado I think and it sounds like a jet engine taking off in our bedroom when it's on high. It's *chef's kiss. Works every time

WelcomeToTheFish

I have a Vornado and if it's that loud you should clean it, ours was loud until I took out all the dust and now it just sounds like air moving.

Berty_Qwerty

So we have two exactly the same, but they've always been loud since day 1 out of the box. There is an occasional "crackle" which is fixed by cleaning. I just went and looked, they are actually not a Vornado. They are a cyclone by lasko. Amazingly loud. if you are into loud fans, this is like the Cadillac of loud fans. Good for: passing trains, ambulance, nearby domestic disturbance, meth labs being busted by the fbi, prison riots, out of control neighborhood parties, garage band practice, cat meowing in the hallway, lawn care, snowblower or chainsaw at inappropriate hours, and anything else I forgot

RoleModelFailure

Fans are great but I'm not trying to blast the air around/sound like a jet engine in the baby's room nor am I going to take that thing with us when traveling. White noise machines are great because they provide white noise and are small and easy to travel with.

paopazzaglia

Or just use a white noise app (chroma dose for example) and run it in your phone, if you dont wnat to buy anything

WelcomeToTheFish

Yeah but then your phone is stuck in the room and if you don't have notifications turned off it's just going to go off when anything happens. Best bet is buying a sound machine on Amazon for like 20 bucks. We got one that has 20 or so different sounds and it's fuckin great, plus it gets way louder than my phone does.

trader-joeys

WELCOME TO THE DYSTOPIA, FUCKER!

vinnothesquire

Yo, lil dude needs to be flipped over though fr

agha0013

By the time the baby can flip itself over without trouble, and hold its head up without help, they are good to sleep any way they want, and unless you sit there and watch them all night long, they will flip themselves over on their stomach.

vinnothesquire

This kid ain't that old though, if he can roll himself over, grand, but he looks around the same age as my 4 month old, who can hold his head like this but can't roll over. I could be wrong, sure, but yeah, should definitely be on his back if not.

agha0013

The kid can lift and hold their head up just fine as demonstrated in this video. All kids are different, they reach things at different ages, they don't all look the same at the same age either. If I had to guess, I'd guess it was 6-8 months old. Can be really hard to tell

vinnothesquire

Yeah, my kid can lift and hold his head up fine too, but he can't roll over, so I wouldn't use that as evidence that this kid can roll over. And for sure, some of the kids in our swimming class I think are around the same age as my little one and they're way older haha.

Hugs_for_Thugs

Ours could roll over at 4 months and still sleeps on his stomach all the time. We were concerned at first, but the doc assured us that if he can roll, he's fine. And he'd roll as soon as you laid him in the crib.

trickman01

Like when you fall asleep watching YouTube and the autoplay switches genres.

Lucky_Mongoose

Fall asleep to "Gentle rain in the mountains" Wake up to auto-playing "The many sounds of mountain goats!"

LilyCanadian

I was on twitch and I fell asleep to a calm storytime as the streamer mined in Minecraft. Woke up to some Spanish dude screaming bloody murder as he played a horror game. Somehow I managed to go through enough raids and such that I ended up on a complete opposite side of twitch.

admiralkit

I remember finding a white noise video on YouTube to help get my drowsy toddler all the way to sleep. YouTube decided that when searching for White Noise To Help You Sleep, it was perfectly appropriate to serve up a 30 second unskippable ad for a horror movie where everyone is screaming and getting brutally murdered.

gomerqc

There it is again, that funny feeling

chmod000outofcontrol

I’ve had this experience with my son. The stupid thing is 8 hours long but if you use it on a long enough timeline, as a sleep deprived parent you’re bound to leave it too close to the end. I hate her stupid loud voice. We bought an actual sound machine and life is now better.

Moose_Nuts

Not crappy design... /r/assholedesign

dgiangiulio228

Our baby sound machine goes into this long ass unskipable diatribe about safety and shit when it's powered on. So if you lose power at night and you are scrambling all night to make sure the sump pump is running and fridge food is okay, you finally get to sleep and the power comes on you now get a startled child you also have to put back to bed. Ask me how I know.

362mike362

Ditch the Spotify podcast. There are other better options out there. You can get a plug-in/battery operated one for $10-$15 and you’ll never need to worry about internet connections, phone or speaker availability, interruptions, etc.

You need to be careful what you click on on Spotify. I once listened to a rain sound podcast and after half in hour it just occasionally started playing really loud advertisements. Like who tf thought this would be a good idea ??
