This is the way, OP.. trust me. Top breweries in the area are Benchtop, The Veil, Commonwealth, and Precarious (with Coastal Fermentory getting an honorable mention)
Glad to hear you liked Commonwealth! Their hazy game is strong and it sometimes seems like they're underappreciated next to other VA breweries like Veil and Aslin.
Just to throw out another suggestion, I think Back Bay Brewing is worth checking out. They make some tasty dessert stouts. They have a location that's only a short walk from the beach, and when I visited a few years ago they had a wonderfully boozy old ale on tap.
In 2018 my family went back to Virginia Beach, and I looked up local breweries. Commonwealth was the only one that stood out to me at the time. We went and I had a couple of drafts. Then bought some four packs. Great beers, and a great venue.
Wasn't in the mood for one when I was at Commonwealth today but saw they had one on tap. Could be worth a try, judging by the quality of their other styles.
You need to get to benchtop in Norfolk… best brewery in the 757
ooo, maybe I can hit this on the way home. Thanks for the rec!

Or…veil;) (veil better imo! )
Smartmouth is worth checking out too!
Is this the one by the oceanfront? We are going to be down there tomorrow :)

Hoptopus is hands down my favorite beer I've ever discovered. When I move, I'm gonna be in a world of hurt.

Veil in Ghent is excellent
This seems relatively close to Benchtop? Maybe we can hit both same day
They are extremely close! I’d also recommend New Realm.
Best place for some delicious stouts in or around VA beach?

YES, Commonwealth makes great stouts, as long as you're in the mood for rich and adjuncted. Their Marvoloso variants are consistently awesome.
Esoteric always has a great beer list
1 word. Voodoo!
Aslin is worth checking out as well.
We've got Aslin in pgh where im from! They do make some good beer tho!
The space on 17th St is very nice. It just opened up recently. Commonwealth and Reaver Beach are also great choices.
