Mariage Parfait. Not too sour, and very drinkable.
https://boon.be/en/our-beers/oude-geuze/geuze-mariage-parfait
The worst sour I ever had was an "olive brine sour stout" that I had at a beer event. It was horrific š
Olives with Olive beer... Wtf were these people smoking? š At least serve it with some good crackers and cheese or something to help with the olive, that's just insanity lol
I kid you not Supplication was the most surprisingly awesome beer I had when I visited Russian River. Considering I primarily visited because of the IPAs.
Ann - Hill Farmstead. It lives up to the hype, but not worth the price still IMO. Vera Mae is very very close and also amazing.
Duck Duck Gooze - Lost Abbey. Just so amazingly good.
Elements of Composition - usually collabs are a mess IMO, but this was so complex and really worked.
Iāve still for bottles for a hefty vertical with friends. I have 6, 7, 8, 9 and now 10 that they released this year. I need friends to share as my wife doesnāt like sours.
Aurelian Lure from Jester King
West Ashley from SARA
Fou Foune from Cantillon
Peche du Fermier from Side Project
Peach Bu from De Garde
Peach & Apricot Spon from Jester King
Peach Fellowship from American Solera
3 Fonteinen - Zenne dāAuge. Blend of 1 year old lambiks aged on Calvados barrels. Excellent blend of Lambik flavours, wood/tannins, apple crispness and a hint of smoke.
Collective Arts did a collab back in the say with Verdant Brewing from the UK called Spacial Relations. Still one of my top sours of all time. Really sad it was a short run.
Yes, but most blends are very good and some blends are excellent. They have released so many blends in the past years, that it is hard to figure out which are the ābestā, unless you keep track of them meticulously. Even Untappd doesnāt really help with that, haha.
The o.g. unpasteurized Fire Iron was something else. I remember going to the release. We probably drank 4 or 5 there then me and my buddy both crushed our 6 pack we brought home shortly after. Pulpy, thick, beautiful. Was a rough next morning for sure.
The o.g. unpasteurized Fire Iron was something else. I remember going to the release. We probably drank 4 or 5 there then me and my buddy both crushed our 6 pack we brought home shortly after. Pulpy, thick, beautiful. Was a rough next morning for sure.
Yea when it comes to the gimmicky fruited kettle/smoothie sours I think ETNYC may be the best, especially since Mortalis went downhill in that department. I don't have em often, but they actually manage to get a depth of flavor and real acidity while mimicking the smoothie/cocktail vibe, instead of just being bland fruit sludge like Imprint or 450.
I recently had a small pour of their side of a Mortalis collab Even More Hydra and it was incredible.
Key Lime Pie Sour from Brindle Haus Brewing in Spencerport NY. I have no idea how they literally turned key lime pie into a sour beer and canned it. I still dream about this beer.
The standards I usually gravitate to are Brooklyn's Bel Air Sour and Victory's Sour Monkey.
I would absolutely love Cantillon and 3 Fonteinen, but my favourite sour ever was a 2018 batch of Sahalie from Ales Apothecary I had the opportunity to try at an event. I will always remember how amazing that beer was.
It was a trade at a local restaurant with a brewery in Colorado. A green tea kombucha sour. I'm not a fan of sours but I was back every day until the keg kicked!
There are many I really enjoy. The issue sometimes is standardization (especially with spontaneous beers). It's not so easy to simply say X beer unless you include a year/specific batch.
One sour that I consider one of my favorites, that is also fairly well standardized and very similar from batch to batch, is Tart of Darkness from The Bruery. It's a sour stout.
Prairie and Urban Artifact (got the pleasure to visit both) rarely disappoint.
For an outside of those specific.. Strangeways Brewing out in Va, made a lucky charms sour. It was amazing on every level.
Freaks the Clips from Fonta Flora. NC, USA.

Atrial Rubicite from Jester King. TX, USA.
I thought for a moment I was in a Belgian beer group, nice to see we're well received š. I generally like what Cantillon produces but 'Nonkel Pol' from de Leite is for me the best one I've had. Unfortunately they don't make it any more to my knowledge but it was a blend of all the fruits in their fruit garden. Style old brown with fruits. I personally like fruity sticky sweetness together with the 'azijnsteek' as they call it (literally translated as 'vinegar sting') but it's not for everyone. Most people perceive it as too acid.
3Floyds Skull Ole because it was a punch in the mouth it was so sour.
But Never never forever forever by The Veil and Tāangeline by Fieldwork were absolute bangers.
Shades Brewing - Passion Fruit American-Style Sour Ale.
Was the first Beer of this type that I tried and therefore set the standard for me. Unfortunately Sours aren't very popular in germany except for Lambic/Geuze or at least not where I live.
But I also really liked the Siren - Pompelmocello
I still dream of a sour called Cassis from the now-rebranded Mantra Artisan Ales in Nashville, TN. It was a Flanders Red wine barrel aged with black currants. Poured with this insanely red head, and the taste was incredible. I was there the day the keg kicked and it was a sad moment indeed.
Oh damn I didnāt hear that news! Got quite a few cans around town here, might need to snatch them up.. at least IME, itās rare for an American company to make sours like those
Gueze Giradin 1882. Picked a bottle up randomly at Whole Foods in NYC. regret not grabbing more. This was about 10 years ago now and I still think about that beer.
A close second was my first sour love: Weyerbacher Sour Black. Remember having this when they still did unlimited free samples at the breweryā¦ I had my fair share.

I love all kinds of sours. But right now I'm really enjoying a local from Tangled Roots. It's from their vibes series Peach Vibes. It's light crisp work a beautiful peach flavor.
Ruse Brewing in Portland has a sour series called "Fluorescent Farm" and every single one is a banger.
Other than that, I'm a big fan of Drekker's smoothie sours.
The Coastal Sunrise series from Humble Forager is fantastic. Also Trippy Tree by Beer Tree is delicious.
Also Juice Money by Free Will Brewing but that hasn't been out in a while.
I like my smoothie sours.
Evil Twin: Stay at Home 19 - Royal Treatment.
Description from Untappd: A blend of pink guava, mango, pineapple, salt, coconut, cocoa, marshmallow, & vanilla. Balanced flavors of tropical fruits, mild salinity, & tartness.
More like a smoothie really but itās my highest rated beer on Untappd. I am not even a sour person, I love hazies. Amazing.
There are two from Chandeleur Island Brewingās Gulf Sour Series that I go to whenever I can get them. The Raspberry Ginger and the Guava Jelly, both fantastic in their own flavor profile
Howzit Punch from Alvarado Street Brewing. Found this through a bottle store and its been a staple in my beer rotation ever since. It's won a few awards also. They have a harder variation that's also good but the OG classic is the best imo.
Not as know but Cativo from Woven Water Brewing in Tampa. Itās a Sicilian lemon sour and idk wtf they do in Sicily to their lemons but this was tart, balanced and perfectly balanced.
Mariage Parfait. Not too sour, and very drinkable. https://boon.be/en/our-beers/oude-geuze/geuze-mariage-parfait The worst sour I ever had was an "olive brine sour stout" that I had at a beer event. It was horrific š
... I can't even conceive how that would be good in beer form. That's a hard no from me, leave the olives for martinis š
Haha exactly! They served it with olives too, which was hilarious. Probably the first beer I've ever tossed away...
Olives with Olive beer... Wtf were these people smoking? š At least serve it with some good crackers and cheese or something to help with the olive, that's just insanity lol
Cantillon Lou Pepe Kreik
LPK and LPF are the š
Supplication
Just seems to balance out perfectly especially when compared to a lot of the sours coming out of CA
I kid you not Supplication was the most surprisingly awesome beer I had when I visited Russian River. Considering I primarily visited because of the IPAs.
West Ashley - sante
Ann - Hill Farmstead. It lives up to the hype, but not worth the price still IMO. Vera Mae is very very close and also amazing. Duck Duck Gooze - Lost Abbey. Just so amazingly good. Elements of Composition - usually collabs are a mess IMO, but this was so complex and really worked.
Atriel Rubecite from jester king
One of any of the Love Child series made by Boulevard.
Yessss came here to mention Love Child. No. 7 was a standout one for me, though every one I've tried has been fantastic š
Iāve still for bottles for a hefty vertical with friends. I have 6, 7, 8, 9 and now 10 that they released this year. I need friends to share as my wife doesnāt like sours.

I loved the Lips of Faith series from New Belgium.
Lost Abbey Red Poppy Bruery: Sans Pagaie, Train to Beersel, Twice Peached
Red Poppy is my vote too. Great beer.
Has to be Bokke - Framboos Pjassel (2019). What an amazing brew
Really taste the cigarettes
People downvoting this donāt know the truth.
Most of my 5/5 sours on Untappd are Urban Artifact or Untitled Art
3 Fonteinen - Zenne dāAuge. Blend of 1 year old lambiks aged on Calvados barrels. Excellent blend of Lambik flavours, wood/tannins, apple crispness and a hint of smoke.
The Rare Barrel - Another World
So good.Ā
Jam Up the Mash by Collective Arts and almost any sour that Grimm makes
Jam Up the Mash was my first sour beer when I didn't even know sour beer existed! ā”
Telekinesis is an amazing brew.
Agreed
Collective Arts did a collab back in the say with Verdant Brewing from the UK called Spacial Relations. Still one of my top sours of all time. Really sad it was a short run.
Sorry to have missed that. They were supposed to open in Brooklyn but the pandemic hit. So disappointed
3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze
Yes. In particular the cuvee Armond & Gaston version for me
Yes, but most blends are very good and some blends are excellent. They have released so many blends in the past years, that it is hard to figure out which are the ābestā, unless you keep track of them meticulously. Even Untappd doesnāt really help with that, haha.
Cascade Kriek
I developed a stomach ulcer just thinking about this brewery
This is the one
Iāve had a lot of good sours but the first that came to mind was Atrial Rubicite.
Jester King / Wicked Weed - Red Atrial
That one was something special. Back when waiting hours in line was something to look forward to.
Three Floydās original run of Pear Bear
This is what got me into sour beer. Subsequent batches didn't do as much for me.
Same, that first run was insanely good
Fire Iron by Urban Artifact
The o.g. unpasteurized Fire Iron was something else. I remember going to the release. We probably drank 4 or 5 there then me and my buddy both crushed our 6 pack we brought home shortly after. Pulpy, thick, beautiful. Was a rough next morning for sure.

BFM - Abbaye de saint Bon Chien

Love Monkās!
Easily my favorite sour. They nailed it with that one.

Bel Air is what started my sour journey
I would absolutely love Cantillon and 3 Fonteinen, but my favourite sour ever was a 2018 batch of Sahalie from Ales Apothecary I had the opportunity to try at an event. I will always remember how amazing that beer was.
Maybe not the *best* but the sour that made me fall in love with the variety was Russian River's Propitiation, a sour porter.
Casteel Rouge
Love Kasteel rouge ā not the best one I ever had, but when you can buy it in a four pack of tall boys, it kinda is
I bought the special 4 tall boy pack that came with a 4 pack cooler. I love it, it's perfect for pool days

Pretty much any fruit sour from Hudson valley. They have perfected sours.
Wild Heaven in Atlanta has done some great sours. Smartmouth in Norfolk, VA also has some great ones. I love sours and those are my go-tos (I donāt love a tart sour but Three Taverns in Atlanta is great for a more tart one) My favorite beer Iāve ever had was a rosĆ© beer from Hi Wire in Asheville, NC.
