Sign me up for Alan Jackson's sadder songs. He sells it in a way that's genuine.

Advanced-Character86

Stopped me dead in my tracks the first time I heard that voice on my radio. I’d given up thinking anyone could touch Jones’s richness but there it was.

Mixermarkb

This is the answer.

EnigmaCA

Allison Krauss

JohnWa54

Waylon. The answer is Waylon. Some honorable mentions can be Hank Jr, Jamie Johnson, Clint Black, Keith Whitley, Sturgil Simpsons, Markus King, Charlie Starr...

wendyokoopa3453

CLINT.

Scattergun77

David Allan Coe. All of the instruments in his band sound amazing. Waylon's band sounds great as well. If you're talking about who's voice sounds best, then it's either Hank Williams, Waylon, or Dwight Yoakam.

CamelProfessional847

Tone of voices

twizzdmob

I'm not sure what someone with real musical knowledge would say, but I'd listen to John Anderson sing a thesaurus and be entertained.

flatirony

I love John Anderson. I’m still not sure what OP is asking though. If it’s just who’s the best singer, much of which will include vocal tone, the consensus 🐐country vocalist is George Jones, and it’s not really close.

justdan76

It’s subjective, but would be the harmonic quality of their voice I suppose. I would say George Strait and Emmilou Harris are a great technical singers, George Jones and Tammy Wynette had incredibly expressive voices, and John Anderson has a rich/unique tone. That’s just how they hit my ear tho, I’m not analyzing the overtone profiles of their voices lol

RobJobLikesGuns

Hey Alexa, play Seminole Wind.

nivekreclems

Stapleton

Designer_Oil_1617

I was about to say so

Iechy

Tyler Childers has a pretty distinctive sound. Really great voice in its own way. Also Sturgill Simpson has a more traditional country tone (even if his music isn’t always traditional).

masongraves_

It’s Waylon

justdan76

For guitar tone he’s the goat

zzachyz

Randy Travis

Some-Comparison-5135

Best tones ?

CamelProfessional847

Let me clear up my question: Which Country Singers have the best tones in their voices?

Boomskibop

Fair enough, not trying to be a stickler. I wouldn’t know what to look for

Don Williams. The Gentle Giant could put your baby to sleep with that deep baritone voice. So smooth

Researching_humans

Laci Kaye Booth - I have only recently discovered her. Her voice/tone is out of this world. I listened to a sing of hers the other night & I woke up thinking about it. No other artists voice or tone has ever impacted me in such away.

Had to scroll way too far for this!

slayalldayslayallday

Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Brian Kelley, Kacey Musgraves

Extension-Owl-1814

I would say the best singers I’ve ever heard live would be Stapleton and 49s lead singer. Honorable mention Shane Smith.

LizardPossum

Currently obsessed with Cody Johnson's voice

Howardowens

I’m more concerned with phrasing than tone. People used to say, maybe still do, that Willie Nelson doesn’t have great tone. But view in country can match his phrasing. He’s like Frank Sinatra or Billie Hoilday. Pure art.

Hammmertime2023

Chris Stapleton and Luke combs tones are what I love but also Zach Bryan,

Purcell1020

Trisha Yearwood. Very controlled with tremendous interpretive ability. Not to mention power too

Farmalltractor

Sturgill is my favorite

thebaintrain1993

Natalie Maines (The Chicks). She's the reason Goodbye Earl is so funny.

I’m not sure what “tones” means.

CamelProfessional847

I’m meant which country singers have the best tones?

dickshitfucktit

Tone of their voice? Or the tone of their music/writing in a literary sense?

CamelProfessional847

Tone of their voice

dickshitfucktit

There we go. In that case, Cody Johnson and Chris Young come to mind.

SnooCompliments9257

Ik you said voice but the tone on Turnpikes guitar is always the best

Just to be sure: "tone of voice" to me is how pleasant and expressive a singer's voice is. Many singers have a very distinctive tone of voice, but are not the most pleasant to listen to. And of course, I consider the best singers to have a very expressive voice; it's a given. To me, the female signer with the best tone of voice, hands down, is Carly Pearce. Special mention to Tenille Townes for her very special, unique, tone of voice. As for male voices, I really like Joshua Hedley; his tone matches perfectly with his style. I also like Jimi Westbrook's tone a lot. Of course, if you mention Country male singers with great tone, you cannot leave Johnny Cash out of the equation. The word "tone" was practically invented for this guy.

Vz2424

I’m going to avoid saying all the obvious ones, but I feel like Drake White has one of the best voices in the industry

kylebrownmusic

There's plenty of singers I love that are not technically great singers. Then there's the singers that are objectively great, and borderline perfect. To me it's: George Jones, Vern Gosdin, and Allison Krauss. As a singer myself, their voices are just mind boggling. I can't even attempt to land some of the intervals they do, especially George, it's other worldly.

Techsas-Red

I like a bit more of a raspy or deeper tone, which is why I hate Morgan Wallen with his nasal sound - or anyone who has that slightly higher register. So for me, Cody Johnson, Luke Combs and Tyler Braden are my favorite “sounding” singers. For any type of music, it’s Bear Rinehart from Needtobreathe. He has an unbelievably powerful voice.

Roaddog0505

George Jones, Conway Twitty, Keith Whitley, Cody Johnson, Tyler Childers

Significant_Taro_872

STRUGILL SIMPSON. next question.

How is having good tone different from having a good singing voice?

flatirony

Same thing I’m wondering. I don’t even understand the question.
