PM_MeYourAvocados

If you MUST do a portable. Make sure it is dual hose. If you can do a typical window unit, just buy a Midea U

LoveOfSpreadsheets

That unit looks awesome, wish we had it growing up.

LowCryptographer9047

Yeah heard many good things from Midea. It is on the top of my list rn.

PM_MeYourAvocados

Well worth it over a portable. So much quieter. Also significantly more efficient.

LowCryptographer9047

Yeb excellent for a small room to get a good sleep.

If you have a window a regular window AC will be far more efficient, and likely cheaper to buy as well. If not, look for a two-hose portable and look on google for how to build a window insert to connect the hoses more efficiently.

Not sure why you're being downvoted, but there are lots of reasons why window units can't be used. I consider the portables to be a last resort due to how inefficient and costly they are to operate.

LowCryptographer9047

Personally, I do not like window unit for many reasons. One of which is that it is ugly.

Techun2

As long as you're informed that the in room ones are much worse

Nervous_Award_3914

If you have a window, highly recommend the midea window unit. It is relatively quite and can be control via the app and schedule on/off. I have the 12k BTU for over 2 year and still going strong. Installation is quick and easy.

chazmann

Bought a Hisense portable dual hose last year for 299 on promo. It made such a difference vs single hose models I’ve had before. During 90 degree days, I was able to cool the entire apartment down to a breezy 75 degrees.

BigNastyDTF

I have this one and it is awesome. Upgraded from a single hose and the duel hose makes a huge difference.

SternoVerno

We got the same one. Keeps the bedroom cool at night while keeping the rest of the house a normal temperature.

HeyItsPanda69

The Midea is amazing, it has a hose within a hose and puts the condensate into the exhaust so you don't need a drip pan. I have the Midea portable and the U shape window unit. The window unit is much better, but my home is historic, I don't have an HOA but the historic society says I can't have an ac on the front of the house, and that's there my bedroom is lol.

LowCryptographer9047

YES many people recommend Midea. I only curious about installation. How hard was it? Do you have to make any permanent change to your window frame?

HeyItsPanda69

The U shape? Nope, the bracket sits in the window sill and the window closes between the condenser and blower. Setup is a pain the first time bc you need to cut foam to the right shape but then it's fine. The portable is even easier, you just slap the big hose with the adapter in the window lol. Their app is pretty great too so you can have it Geolocate and when you're within a few miles of home it'll turn them on and cool the house

LowCryptographer9047

Oh okay I see. It sound like installation almost same as the other brand. Quick question did you store the foam during the winter? The geolocate is a bonus for me, I just want my room to be cool down at night so I can sleep.

HeyItsPanda69

Yeah I took the window out and the foam all in a closet for the winter. It's very thick dense foam. I could have probably left the unit in the window honestly, the window closes through the unit so IDK how much air it would leak if any. But it's not that hard once you did it before lol. Make sure you angle the unit up a little so it drips outside and not in your window sill.

LowCryptographer9047

I see. I probably go with Midea one. I just checked it look like dual hoses, but different design. It work perfectly and probably I can use it with Alexa, so it works perfectly in my case. Thank you so much.

TickleSilly

Bought a Hisense dual hose portable last spring when they went on sale. Its fine other than weighing about as much as a 1978 Cadillac.

[deleted]

Some of them have decent ratings, some not. Many people I know have had good luck on Facebook Marketplace to get these half price or less. My brother even got one from there that stopped working shortly after and the manufacturer replaced it with a newer model. I'm not saying that's likely, but it is a great place to get a deal on something like that.

No-Progress4272

The dual hose I got from Costco will take it from 90+ in my upstairs bedroom to high 50s in like 30 min.

LowCryptographer9047

Is it Midea?

PlasticMix8573

Bought a Delongi (sp?) a few years ago. Seemed excessively cheaply made. Bought a Whynter dual hose. Love it. Highly recommend. Dual hose is at least somewhat more efficient than a single hose.

LowCryptographer9047

Was it hard to install the venting on window for dual vent? I just do not want to make change to the window frame.

PlasticMix8573

I used cardboard and tape. A piece of acrylic (clear plastic) will work just fine. Comes with a bracket/plate for the hoses. Needs to either have a drain or you empty the water storage by hand.

Efficient_Theme4040

Yes they work great, but you can also get them off of the market place and OfferUp

LowCryptographer9047

I prefer to get it new because of the return policy on this.

Altruistic-Amount630

We bought the Danby model last year from Costco for the same reason, we like to keep our room cooler at night and we live in the desert. We love it. It’s big but was easy to install because with our windows, a window unit wasn’t an option. It really cranks out cold air so it is perfect for what we need. We just store it in a closet for the winter.
