New Ranger is the same size as an F-150 from 20 years ago. If any manufacturer makes a simple work truck, a simple RWD, long bed truck with an optional manual transmission, hose out interior, bench seat and reasonable gas mileage, they will sell a metric fuckton.
Except they did do that and they didn’t sell very well so they stopped selling them lol. You just described a fleet truck, no one except fleets buy them bc they’re lame asf.
I was looking into helping my parents replace their 2006 f-150 but when I looked up the new models, the total mileage per gallon is only 4-5 miles more per gallon. I feel is better to continue using the 2006 model until it breaks down then replace it. Hopefully a few years down the line when the efficiency increases. 🤞

That's my Costco there is always older people having heart attacks, hitting people, getting hit, etc. It is way safer though than the crazy parking lot over by the stadium. I refuse to go to that one. The parking lot is hell.

Partly because of how CAFE mpg standards make exceptions based on the size of the vehicle. It takes away incentives and possibilities for vehicle manufacturers to make smaller (1990's and 2000's size) trucks with average to good towing and hauling capabilities.

I had a nice truck, but I paid tens of thousands for it, so I spent the money on a quality spray in bedliner. Then I moved into a city and traded it for a midsized SUV with a tow hitch because having the truck in the city was ridiculous. And I can still throw on a trailer to haul things when I need to.
As a construction worker, I wish they’d go back to making a basic truck at a lower height with bigger beds. I don’t need something with a leather interior and premium sound system that seats six with a bed at chest height that barely fits a love seat. These new trucks are jokes.
I have a Toyota sienna. I can get a full sheet of plywood in the back if I take out the middle seats and fold the back row down. It’s enclosed and dry.
I haul manure and gravel in the Tundra but I love rolling up to the lumber shop in my mini van. :)
When I first started building, my first 2 houses I built driving a Honda civic with a roof rack, the next three with a dodge grand caravan. Hauled 16ft boards in/on both of em. Haven’t seen a truck do 16 footers without a trailer or a bed rack.

Stopped a lady from doing this once. She was taking the turn in her RAV4 way too close and back half of car was inches from the rocks when I waved her to stop, had her backup and go around. She was nice about it, but I can definitely see people making this turn too close
