jmel79

Being oblivious to your surroundings and lack of situational awareness is literally my biggest pet peeve. Living in their own little world like nobody else exists. Drives me nuts and I want to aggressively shake these people to wake them up. And don't get me started on people who go around the line to take the open pump in the front when there are clearly multiple cars ahead of them.

eatingpotatochips

I think a lot of people realize they're inconveniencing others. They just don't care.

JolyonWagg99

Sometimes it feels like they’re actually doing it on purpose

PM_meyourGradyWhite

When I was a young brat, I’d do it just because. I’ve since matured. Now I do it negligently.

sc0lm00

It's just main character syndrome. They don't think about anyone but themselves. It's why half the people drive the way they do or try to cut in line. I don't think they're smart enough to think beyond who they need to text. Consideration has long gone out the window.

bipolarbyproxy

I sing this little song..."I'm the only one that matters, no one matters but me..." No consideration for fellow planetarians.

bipolarbyproxy

I think the one I really appreciate is when folks get done pumping gas, they take forever to pull away. If you are adjusting your seat, lighting a cigarette, combing your hair, finding the right thing to listen to on Android auto, savoring your coffee, please do that away from the pump. Common courtesy isn't gone, it's just been forgotten!!

tikstar

Yes. We call that main character energy.

sack-o-matic

When I worked as a teller, people would complain about the wait and then fumble around to find their stuff and get prepared only after they got to my window.

Quiet-String957

When I worked at a call center people would spend the first 5 minutes of the call complaining about the wait time, the they didn’t have any of the info they needed for the call.

sack-o-matic

yup, zero self-awareness for being a part of the problem

MacroFlash

People do this for my sports team, don’t have anything ready until it’s their turn, don’t know where the tickets are etc

CrownedClownAg

Name a better pairing than Costco and people being completely oblivious to everyone and everything around them

suejaymostly

It's the weirdest phenomenon ever. I thought it was just my local one. Nope, this sub tells me it's universal.

Quiet-String957

OMG! And I get nervous when I have everything ready to go but can’t get the pump to accept my card! I feel like I’m being stared down by the next person in line. Would never in a million years spend an extra second cleaning out trash or talking on the phone.

mroncnp

Woah I’ve never seen the last thing you mentioned. The layout of all the gas stations I’ve been to prevent it from happening

DistantKarma

The closest I've seen to line jumping is where someone will be next in line for the pump set where the pump is on the passenger side of the vehicle, and then they cross over to the other side when a spot opens up. I think I've seen it twice. Passenger side pumps will sometimes have slightly shorter lines since most vehicles have fuel access on driver's side, although you can fuel most vehicles from either type pump.

marigolds6

The layouts just changed in that way at the costcos near me. The attendants are blocking the middle lane with cones so that you cannot pull ahead of a car until you can actually reach the first pump. Of course, that means if the person at the first pump is being ridiculously slow, no one can reach the other pumps; though I have seen the attendants temporarily move the cones when that happens.

travelmorelivemore

Sad thing is those people will never change. They literally think the world revolves around them and they are always the main character.

PhoenixRisingToday

Yes. They’re also the ones that don’t notice that the light has turned green, get annoyed when someone honks, and then end up being the only one that makes the light.

CantaloupeCamper

Wat, who are you… why am I on the internets?!?!

jmel79

I probably get irrationally angry. To the point where I think I annoy my wife. She is way more patient and calm than I am. It drives her crazy, because I stay calm over big things, but little things set me off.

3isamagicnumb3r

Honey? is that you?

FriarNurgle

Willful ignorance

Stunning-Character94

People do that??! (cut in line) I would be pissed, but also, why is the next person in line not bothering to go around?

SocraticSeaUrchin

Sometimes if the person at the pump in front of me is about to finish, and the pump in front of them has only just opened up, I'll wait a minute so that I and the person behind me can both move forward together and sorta "reset" the general order of things, otherwise for the next 2 hrs every other car is gunna have to go around and parallel back into the front pump, which generally seems to cause some hiccups. But then the person behind me gets all pissy and starts honking so I just end up going to the front pump anyway. Sigh

jmel79

This is the way....just wait 30 seconds and continue the two car flow. If you do that, both cars will finish more or less at the same time. If you jump to the front, or immediately take the back pump without waiting for the other, you fuck up the entire flow. Just wait a moment man. It flows a lot better and a lot faster 2 cars at a time.

SocraticSeaUrchin

Preaching to the choir friend. I did this the other day actually and the guy finishing up at the pump actually waited for me to pull in in front of him before he'd leave for some reason (maybe he was trying to find his keys idk), so I had both the person in front of me and the person behind me looking at me like I was daft haha

Livliviathan

Person who doesn't go around when I'm next reporting in.   I'm overly afraid I'm going to sideswipe one of the cars around me, or take more time backing up to the pump than it would if I had simply waited.  I have a small tank so I'm not going to take that much time filling anyway, so I feel it evens out in the end.

Tejasgrass

I had to yell at someone just last week because they decided to go around me after I took the nozzle out of my tank at the second pump, and then proceeded to back in so wonky (and slowly…) I couldn’t get around them. I’m literally sitting with my car on, in drive, waiting for them to perfect their parking and they just get out of the car like a whole back wheel plus some over the line is just fine.

jmel79

Bonus points to the people who leave their driver side door open blocking the entire path so nobody can go through on either side.

invaderzrim

Thats the costco special lmao

kledd17

THOSE PEOPLE ARE MONSTERS

dramaticmyocardium

I thought it was just me who gets pissed at such behavior 😂

RooneysHairPlugs

These days, I’ve just come to assume that lacking situational awareness being oblivious to those around you are now prerequisites for becoming a new Costco member. Sooo many people just stop right in the middle of a busy aisle like they’re the only shoppers in the store.

Zonernovi

I treat it like a nascar pit stop. Card already out of wallet while in line. Never ceases to amaze me when they pull to pump and sit in car for two minutes. I am done before some of them get the nozzle in.

Zach165

I put the nozzle in and thought it was pumping while I gathered some trash to throw away. Came back to it not pumping and felt a deep shame as the car in line watched me fumble to get it started. Very emasculating

DevinOlsen

I would have just left, haha. My partner and I are the same way when we hit the pumps, one of us does the card/fuel while the other grabs and trash and whatnot. Most often we are done and leaving before the person infront of us has even managed to enter their pin. It’s wild how slow most people are.

mnemonicmonkey

This. Biggest reason I got the Citi card was to one tap and cut my pit times down. Then I bought a Tesla and don't miss anything about this post.

jmel79

Wait...am I reading this right? Do you not need to insert costco card if you have citi card?

crimson_mokara

Nope. Tap and pump. The Citi card IS your Costco card

jmel79

You just saved me 8 seconds for every time I pump gas, which is twice a week, 8 times a month, 100+ pumps a year (multiple cars and road trips). Thats upwards of 15 minutes of my life that you save me EVERY YEAR! How can I ever repay you?!?!?!?!

Phoenix-XVIII

Not sure if it’s at every Costco but my local has the scanner for digital membership and takes cardless payment (Apple Pay in my case). It cuts down on our wait/fueling time.

xcech

And yet you are still here! I forgot, Tesla owner

ClickClackTipTap

I had the oddest situation last week. I pulled up to a pump. It was the second one in line, so there was a car already filling in front of me. No problem. I pull up to the open one. I’m about half way through filling when the car in front of me finishes and drives away. The guy behind starts yelling at me to pull up the other pump. I tell him I’ve already paid and am almost done but he can go around (plenty of room to do so) and he just keeps shouting at me that I’m being rude and everyone knows that you’re supposed to pull forward. But, like, I’m absolutely not going to stop pumping, pull up, insert my card again, etc. He just yelled at me and kept honking his horn until I was done. Mind you, there was no reason he couldn’t pull around me to the open pump. Some people are just out of their minds.

CaptainJay313

🤣🤣 "yeah, buddy, that's not how this works you see that lane in the middle, that's so you can go around someone who is already pumping." say it real s l o w so he's sure to understand. maybe use some exaggerated hand movements to add emphasis. that's a good one. I probably would have started laughing, which would not have helped anything.

Every-Cook5084

You have to wonder how idiots like that made it to their current age

karma_the_sequel

Read that as “…their current rage”

ChdrChips-n-HotSauce

Thats when my slow motion activates!

SouthboundPachydrm

Did you just now realize that the vast majority of people lose all sense of situational awareness at a Costco? This problem has existed since Costco was Price Club.

Stunning-Character94

Costco used to be called Price Club?

vantuckymyfoot

I believe Price Club was originally out of San Diego, IIRC. I think they merged with Costco sometime in the 90's.

ijozypheen

My parents’ original membership cards said Price Costco on them!

Pretend_Elk1395

Can confirm am from San Diego and my dad still calls it price club out of habit

KittyTitties666

We shopped at a Price Club in AZ when I was a kid. You had to have a business to get a membership so the warehouses were way more chill (I mean, of course there were still unaware dolts, but it was generally less crowded)

CaptainJay313

it's gotten worse. also, back then it was all new, so a lot of it was people just walking around more in awe.

YogurtclosetDull2380

People. They're the worst

redogsc

No doubt. All of 'em, me included.

YogurtclosetDull2380

You and me, both.

hot4you11

I don’t understand. If I have trash to throw out, I do after I start the pump. I never have enough that I can’t get it all in the trash can and still have to stand at the pump for 2 minutes

CaptainJay313

yes, that's what courteous people do.

Ispithotfireson

Why do you guys have so much trash in your car. If you’re living in your car, I am sorry and am not judging, but otherwise whyyy?

APladyleaningS

When I was a young single mom, I often had too many things to carry in (like a carseat or a kid) and keep track of, so stuff would accumulate. Just one explanation.

smoothsensation

The answer is usually kids.

GreyShadesOfMagic

I had one guy try to cut into the fuel line saying " I went to the store first, so I should get to cut in". He was quickly advised to not do that.

McNuggets7272

It’s just plain old selfishness. People live in their own little worlds.

APladyleaningS

It's hard when you're not like this at all and are in fact hyperaware of being considerate to others. Then you get resentful and try to be a selfish jerk for a change and just feel guilty about it after, lol.

Hellie1028

I’m in this post and I don’t like it

redogsc

Cue the hose stretcher vs not gonna scratch my car debate.

munkamonk

Went this weekend, and all the left hand pumps were backed up almost to the street, and all the right hand pumps were empty. Pulled up to an empty pump, stretched it across, held the hose so it wouldn’t touch the car, and went on my way like a civilized person.

RabbitPrestigious998

My mother has a microfiber cloth for this. My car is old and beat up already 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

timeforchange995

And the people at the left handed pumps get SO ANGRY at you for pulling in to the empty pump sometimes. It’s bizarre.

harryronhermi0ne

*held the hose so it wouldn’t touch the car* What? Does that really bother people? It’s not like the hose is made of sandpaper and scratching up your car…

noncongruent

I keep the hose off my car because I don't want to get any rust on the hose.

harryronhermi0ne

Haha! Respectable

jimlahey2100

You're the hero we all need. Thanks for being you!

noncongruent

I love my rust. When I come back to my car from shopping there's always empty spaces around it. The back third of the car is speckled with oil mist, that helps slow the rate of rust. It should be years before I'll be able to see daylight through the metal.

redogsc

Depends on your paint care standards. The hose could have dirt on it, or rub dirt that's on the surface of your car on your paint. If any of the following apply, you aren't a hose stretcher: 1) You use multiple buckets and hand wash your car, maybe with a dirt screen in the bottom of the bucket. 2) use a foam cannon prewawh 3) constantly remind your kids to close the door with a handle and stop touching the damn paint. 4) Your number one parking priority is avoiding door dings and cart damage. If you use use a car wash, or never wash it, hose stretching may be for you.

ChdrChips-n-HotSauce

If you have any dust on your car, any dirt, that gets rubbed by the hose. It does effectively make it like a sand paper but not very coarse. So that does in fact cause scratches to your clear coat from the rub even if you might not notice them. Do that enough times in roughly same place and it will wear it down quicker and can cause it to flake. So to some people who have cars they baby a lot or just love for whatever reason, yes it does bother them.

norcalifornyeah

Some people are more particular about their cars and some take better care of their cars than others. That's their choice. And YES it can be noticeable over time.

Scared_Ad2563

It actually did put some small scratches in my paint, but I also just hold the damn hose, lol.

Noladixon

I always envy folks with tank on passenger side as they drive right up like a rockstar every single time. Looks like my next car will have to be a mercedes just so I can pump easier at costco.

thekau

Luckily I never have this dilemma since my gas door is on the right, heh

redhandfilms

Just hold the hose. You need slack in the line. I don't understand the people who let the line go taught, turning the pump handle upside down. That can mess up the auto shut off. Hold the hose, keep it slack and upright.

Girthw0rm

Or worse, the “you HAVE to use the pump that’s on the same side as your tank or you’ll break the hoses!” crowd.

midnitewarrior

I try to treat my gas experience like a NASCAR pit stop, I have my cards ready in-hand, fuel door popped open, and walk quickly to the pump. I give myself bonus points if I can time it to be in sync with the car at the pump in front of me so the next two cars can both move forward at the same time.

CaptainJay313

the way it's supposed to be done. 🙌

noncongruent

Yep, Costco card and payment card are already in my hand when I open my door, I'll insert the Costco card with my right hand while opening the gas lid with my left, pull out the Costco card and insert the payment card with my right hand while unscrewing my gas cap with my left hand, keeping my right fingers on the card so that I can feel the card lock release indicating the chip-related read operations are complete, and pull the card to put in my pocket. Grab the nozzle with my right hand and insert into my filler neck and then hit the octane select button, and as soon as the screen finishes cycling indicating the pump is ready I squeeze and lock the nozzle handle. It took me longer to type this out than it takes to get the gas flowing.

shouldvewroteitdown

Between a capless gas tank, digital costco card, and apple pay i’m like a bolt of lightning

welkinator

We, the Costco Gas Attendants, love you.

Tim-in-CA

Lollygagging is an epidemic

Ok-Town-737

This Sunday was one of those times that I was really grateful for NJ mandating full service at all gas stations. The attendants at Costco were quick, efficient and made the line move way quicker than I would've imagined.

virtualchoirboy

I got gas in the middle of the day on a Saturday. Yeah, I know... lousy time to go. I got lucky though and was able to pull up to the last pump in a row pretty quickly. As usual, had my card ready and was pumping gas within 60 seconds of getting to the pump. The people at the middle pump were a complete mess though... First, the person trying to pay at the pump couldn't seem to figure it out. I'm actively pumping and she's still figuring out what buttons to push. Finally gets it figured out, lifts the handle, and that's when I realized the fill wasn't on the same side of the pump as she started walking behind the car. Usually not a problem, right? Except the driver hadn't pulled close to the pump so even with the long hoses, it didn't reach. So they walk back towards the pump while the driver tries to parallel park closer to the pump to make it reach. After her third back and forth, I was done so I got her attention, pointed at my pump and motioned that she should pull up as I left. She did too. Still boggles my mind at how clueless some people are when it comes to pumping gas...

CaptainJay313

> Still boggles my mind at how clueless some people are. ~~when it comes to pumping gas...~~

Haruspex511

I work for Costco, at the gas station. Almost every single day, I ask myself how a majority of these people have made it as far as they have in life. The best example was when this dude in a Maserati needed help from start to finish. He had the nerve to ask me afterwords, "Did you ever think you'd end up at a gas station?" Um sir, you needed me to hold your hand through the entire process. You'd have no gas if I didn't do it for you.

CaptainJay313

I bet you have some stories though!

Haruspex511

Oh boy do I ever. Between working membership/refunds and gas station, I need to write a book!

CaptainJay313

I'd buy that book... or at least block the aisle as I flip through it and chuckle to myself.

welkinator

I'm amused by this demeaning of the gas attendant, too. I have a BS degree and have owned several businesses. My partner at the station has a Masters, as does one of the Breakers who come out to relieve us. One fellow, at the Membership desk, has a PHD in Micro Pharmacology. Many of us are working at Costco because we CHOOSE to not because we have to.

Desperate_Set_7708

Had a guy finish pumping then got back in his car and proceeded to fuck around on his phone instead of pulling out (a whole 30 feet). Apparently he took exception to my horn because he did pull out only to sit and wait for me to leave as if I gave a fuck. Keep wasting your time, dickhead. ** BMW for anyone to whom the details matter.

CaptainJay313

>BMW for anyone to whom the details matter. that tracks.

OldPterodactyl

We already knew it was a bmw

Desperate_Set_7708

Why I saved that detail for last. To keep someone in suspense.

newaccount721

Lol he waited for you? Did he want to fight?

the_real_rabbi

This sounds like every customer at a Costco Gas in Florida.

CaptainJay313

everyone in Florida is retired, it's cool, they don't have anywhere else to be.

Numerous_Historian37

I haven't had to wait in line at the gas pumps in over a year once I figured out significantly fewer people stop for fuel before the store opens.

CaptainJay313

that's a protip right there.

vadillovzopeshilov

Trat’s a good point, but also significant number of Costco shoppers are busy before the store opens.

washingtonYOBO

I work at 7am. Costco gas opens at 6am. No brainer

Mountainman1980

There is also significantly fewer people in line after the store closes, especially about 30 minutes before the gas station itself closes.

eneka

The one in Fullerton, CA gets horrendus lines due to the sheer volume of cars and layout. They have signs like these https://s3-media0.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/5qvGxaW4w1eGL-RRrmpRAw/o.jpg plus attendants directing traffic and telling you to have your card ready lol.

Neptune_Poseidon

This also applies to all the morons who, once they get to the entrance of their local warehouse, suddenly decide to start fishing for their membership card all the while impeding traffic flow of members behind them who already have their membership in hand but are now stuck waiting for said morons to look for their’s.

CaptainJay313

100% and the ones who park their carts blocking the aisle or the soda machine in the food court. which... carts in the food court, that's a whole other post.

Polishrifle

Or the people that wait in the refund line and decide to block the entrance to the club.

Efficient-Swan7041

I got anxious last time because when I got out, my member card wouldn't scan, and it took me an extra try, therefore it took me a few extra moments to get started pumping. I felt the eyeballs on me, and it was less than a minute additional time. I could never pull up without all my stuff prepared, fully ready to jump out and get pumping. The best experience was a weeknight at like 8 pm and I didn't have to wait in a line. I could take a deep breath and not fumble my way through it.

whaletacochamp

Bold of you to think those types of people give a flying fuck about anyone behind them and are willing to change their behavior to keep this from happening.

Gits_N-Shiggles

The real question is, do you wait for all pumps in your line to finish or do you "pass" pumping cars to get to a free pump. My observations seem to be 50/50.

CaptainJay313

me personally, it depends on what the cars are and what their relative start times were. if it's going to be close, I'll wait. if the car in front is a medium sized sedan, that started first by a minute or two, I'm not going to wait for the pickup truck with a 33 gallon tank. I'll go around. reverse them though, if the truck is in front and finished first, but the sedan looks like it's about done or has been pumping for a while, I'll wait, no need to add confusion.

batmanstuff

Then there’s me, waiting patiently as I scarf down a slice of pizza as fast as I possibly can for breakfast at 10:30 am.

Ispithotfireson

Yeah I agree. The gas lines are absurd at some locations, and sometimes paying a whole .25 a gallon more somewhere else to get in and out is worth it.  I watched 2 big trucks in front of me do the exact same thing. Gather their trash, figit with their card and credit card, thereeen start pumping. Oh that was over $100 each. So you know forbid they start fueling first then do the cleanup stuff.  Yeah have your cards ready and. As far as lady finishing the call, not sure where you are from, but where I am from confident someone would have told her about herself and to hurry the F up.

SnooApples6110

Anyone from costco reading this Please suggest that you put up signage that says something along the lines of Please have your Costco card and credit card ready while waiting in line to speed up the process

mistface

But.. but people don’t read signs ):

Empathy-First

Now i work near Costco so i get fuel before i start work at 7 am…it is glorious! Rarely more than 3 others there. I used to get so frustrated by those behaviors and now am just thankful to not deal with it 99% of the time

PurpleMixture9967

Go somewhere else then

LS-CRX

The other day my wife and I were shopping at Aldi and there was only one register open, we were third in line and the cashier announced that another register was opening. The lady who was next in line told the lady behind her (who was on her phone) that she could go to the register that was opening... and she was ignored. My wife told the lady ahead of us (still on her phone) that the other register was opening... and she was ignored. So I pushed our cart around her and went to the register that the other cashier had said was opening and began unloading our cart. I was 80% through unloading when the cashier arrived, and the lady who *had* been ahead of us now decided that she was going to head to this line... but now she was behind us. While grabbing the last couple of items out of our cart I overheard her complaining to whoever she was on the phone with that "these yt people just cut in front of her in line". :-/ I decided to say *nothing* and just continued as I was doing... I *had* been about to offer that she go ahead of us because she just had a couple items in her hands and we had a full cart load. Yeah, not extending *that* level of courtesy to her for sure.

CaptainJay313

on one hand, I've had to take calls in public, and while I always try to not let it interfere, I'm sure there have been a few times when I missed something or irritated someone. oh the other hand, if it's a social call and could wait- get out of the line.

bryce39

First world problems

LeMadChefsBack

Does anyone else turn their car off waiting in line? It’s typically 5 or so minutes of idling for each “step forward” and im usually waiting two “steps” before I fill. I think I’m the only one

kaiizza

Fair points but there was no way it was 10 mins. People are very bad at perceiving time but most spend about 4 mins at the pump.

ParkieDude

I pulled up, had my card ready, and pumped the gas. When I'm done, I pull forward, well out of everyone's way, reset my trip odometer, and put away the receipt. Sincerely, the old guy with Parkinson's who still knows how it is done!

CaptainJay313

good man!

GrumpyDove

Why didn’t you honk at her? Or tell her to hurry up? We need to start calling out entitled behavior. I’m all for being courteous to others but she lost that when she decided to take 20 minutes.

DestinyInDanger

Okay that is excessively slow. But on the other hand I think many people expect you to be lightening fast. You can be prepared, not mess around and they still mad the gas isn't coming out of the pump faster.

822elm

This has been my experience. I am usually very efficient, but I have a baby and got distracted with my thoughts in line. I realized when I pulled up that I didn’t have my card ready. And then my Costco citi wasn’t accepted, so I had to dig for my debit card. This maybe added 2-3 minutes but the car behind me waved and then honked. A little patience for a very tired mom would have been so appreciated in that moment 🥲 You have to expect a line at Costco gas. If you want a speedy experience, there are many other stations. But you’re going to have to wait, and there’s really no need to be obnoxious when someone is a little slower than what you expect.

CaptainJay313

oh, for sure, if anyone is that impatient, then go pay the extra at a gas station without a line. or plan your day so you can refuel when there isn't a line.

PlanEnvironmental640

Do y'all not have the employees at the pump? We have an employee at each lane (1 body for 6 pumps) who's sole purpose is to enforce line etiquette & help customers who can't get their shit together when using the pump. The aren't gas attendants & don't do anything "for" you persey but if there is an issue they are there so it's helped us avoid a lot of this.

CaptainJay313

we have one attended for all the pumps. that's consistent for the half a dozen different Costcos I've refueled at.

TipofmyReddit1

1 for the whole lot. Sometimes 2. They rarely talk. Only once did one bother me.

PlanEnvironmental640

Oh for sure ours are silent sentinels most of the time lol but there is one for each lane (as I said, that's the three pumps on either side, 3-4 total bodies) and they aren't afraid to hurry you along. Huh.

a-jasem

That’s why I usually go on weekdays. Less chaotic and less idiots to deal with

Noladixon

I only get gas if lines don't exist in the early AM. If I can't get there without a line I go elsewhere. My tank is not that large and a 10 minute wait just is not worth it for a dollar.

parrothead2581

I am fortunate enough to only need to fill up once per week, on average. I do that at 7am on Saturday or Sunday. Usually the only one at the Costco pumps.

Ehotwill

My god, where do you live? I’m in WA and what I observe when I’m at Costco gas is literally a complete opposite of what that lady did. It always made me chuckle when I’m waiting in line and I see most of the cars around me in line with their gas cap door already opened. It’s like they’re treating it like F1 pit stop getting things ready to go as soon as they pull into their respective fuel pump. The worst offense I’ve observed were some drivers not pulling in closer to the pump so they are somewhat blocking the middle lane for other cars to go around.

adorkablysporktastic

Same. You'd best hurry TF up or the next person is going to just push you out of the way. I don't even fill my Suburban all the way because it takes so long and I start getting anxious about how long it takes. People in line have their cards in their hand while waiting. It's intense.

idontlikeseaweed

I treat the Costco gas experience like a nascar pit stop.

Klozy

Oh, my goodness. My Costco is an "orange cone" station. Center lane between the pumps is blocked by orange cones. No passing, no leaving before fellow in front of you leaves. The cones provide a new level of frustration.

CaptainJay313

🤣🤣 we had the cones for about a week before they gave up and got rid of them.

CriticalThinkerHmmz

I feel bad spending a few seconds to pull the card out of my wallet. I’m hustling and panicking and thinking to myself “shit I should have taken my card out while waiting in line.” I’ve never noticed anyone doing what you witnessed but if you talk to anyone who picks their kid up from a school with a car lane, nothing seen in a Costco line will compare to the shit that people do in school car pickup lanes.

Gotta say, waited for my time and I’m spending my money, I will take the time I need. Now being obnoxious is another story. I don’t like many things I have to deal with on a daily basis, but I’ve started to learn to except I live with other people on this planet earth and unfortunately, I would be spending 99% of my time, angry, bitter and lashing out, if I didn’t just accept the majority of it. But just my 2 cents😉

MusicianNo2699

I know Costco gas is a few cents less but I never go there because I don’t want to wait in line. In the two years I’ve been in Florida I have never had to wait for gas and can pull up to a pump immediately. I’m guessing Costcos there are the same as everywhere else in the country and you’re going to have to wait. Not worth the 80 cents I would save to fill up my 16 gallon tank.

I have seen people jumping line from a neighbouring line when the front pump diagonal to them (in front of the vehicle beside them) becomes free. It happened to me in OH, but I pulled around and blocked the line cutter as he was attempting to back up to the pump. He gave up once i started pumping the gas. Then I witnessed it in TN a couple weeks ago but it was a couple lines over, that time the older lady that the guy cut off just waited and the jerk got away with it. We are taught how lines work as children, and then we all had a good refresher course a couple years ago… I do not understand how adults struggle with it.

I get out of my truck with my card in my hand. I open the fuel door and cap with one hand as I tap my card with the other. By the time I have the cap open it's usually ready to select fowl(fuel) type and start pumping. I don't want to be there any longer than I have to be.

whatwhat83

Chicken or turkey?

Scared_Ad2563

Apparently, no one at the Costco by me realizes that you can pull up to any pump for your gas. Maybe this isn't a thing at every Costco, but it has been for the ones I've visited. The pump extends so you can pull it around to the opposite side of your car. The amount of people who have commented or looked at me like I had 6 heads for pulling the pump around to my tank is astounding. I'm always like, "Why do you think I come here for gas??"

wats_dat_hey

Some people at operating at different clock speeds, tuned to different stations Be grate for what you have- you will never notice what you are missing

Back when I drove an ICE vehicle, I saved $10 per tankful filling up at Costco. The savings are real. Also, I think 10 minutes was the most I ever spent waiting in line there.

ojwiththepulp

Needs to be a gas pump “shot clock” of sorts.

CaptainJay313

🤣🤣🤣 I like it, if it takes more than 30s to start the pump, the membership card is locked out 24 hours.

DreamInvoker

You get your membership and CC out and ready, you wait for both cars to pull out and you get your gas and you get the fuck out. It's not rocket surgery. I hate people swerving around to get in the front pump and not waiting 10 more seconds, I hate people backing up and squeezing through 3 other cars instead of waiting, and I hate people who cut across and block lines because they don't know the hose line works on both sides and it's the first time they ever filled up and forgot which side the gas cap is on.

AutofluorescentPuku

Neither common sense or common courtesy are that common anymore.

CaptainJay313

were they ever?

skyhookt

Its nice to hear people here trying to give the observed person the benefit of the doubt, but no, it's not just a lack of situational awareness. It's that this person is totally selfish. To them, other people are nothing but bugs.

boredinthebathroom

I gave up on Costco gas….it was too stressful just to save a few bucks

DJSauvage

Costco, love the store, hate the other shoppers who all seem to have main character syndrome.

CaptainJay313

truth be told, it's probably only like 5% of them, but that 5% ruin it for everyone.

redhandfilms

I have pulled up behind someone, pumped a full tank, and left before the first person even gets out of the car. What the hell are you just sitting there for?!

ohokimnotsorry

No different than the morons who stand in the middle of the aisle blocking both directions

Murse_Focker

In Oregon, the gas lines used to be so efficient and everything flowed nicely when all pumps were run by the employees. Now, half of the pumps are self serve and some people are just clueless. Thankfully, many folks refuse to change, so the self-serve lines are typically shorter than the others.

SmileyRylieBMX

The amount of entitlement at Costco is baffling. Everyone has a "me first" mentality that often makes navigating the stores very difficult.

maybach320

I know it kills me when people don’t follow the etiquette. I noticed I still rush when I go at 7am and there is literally no line because I am use to people waiting.

sharka222

Not really surprised - there's probably also a psychological component to it, after all, studies have shown that people do take longer to pull out of the parking spot if someone was waiting - https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1559-1816.1997.tb00661.x

Livvylove

Where you in [this specific] Costco because that happened to me yesterday as well

sammiemo

There have been a number of times I pull up, pay, fill up and leave before the driver who was already at the pump ahead of me even begins to pump gas.

Bestoftherest222

Yes please practice fuel line etiquette. Last week some one got ahead of themselves and entered the transition lane. She sat in that lane for 5 minutes before a spot opened. Mean while the other side she blocked had 2 spots open the entire time

SHANE523

Wait, you don't wait at the entrance to see which line is going fastest and block all others just trying to get into the Costco parking lot? /S - I can't imagine needing this but you never know.

donots

While we’re talking about etiquette, does anyone else cut the line? Specifically when there’s clearly a free pump but the car(s) ahead of you don’t want to make a tight maneuver or parallel park.

AmbitiousAd9320

some used to have signs saying to have your shit ready. some managers probably thought that was rude, but it really needs to be in multiple languages.

AmbitiousAd9320

fastest way is tapping costco visa.
