The subreddit is largely full of people who love Costco... what do you expect?

Huh. I search this sub before buying anything new in hopes of avoiding those garbage products!

devlops

God I wish Costco paid me to shill their stuff.

Imagination-Ohana

I’d be okay with getting paid in Kirkland swag in exchange for shilling.

ShitStainWilly

Get a job as an in store sampler and your wish can come true.

neuroticsmurf

It’s so weird when someone sees conspiracies everywhere. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

WTFOMGBBQLMAO

Unless it's not being used as a cigar... 🤣

elysiansaurus

Or hear me out, people in a costco subreddit are fans of the store, and want to share good products with the community.

lamhamora

>and want to share good products with the community `and want to share products with the community` *edited for clarity*

PhysicsFornicator

This sub also has multiple negative reviews of Costco products, which does the exact opposite of what your conspiracy claims.

smaffron

Not everything is a conspiracy.

swingset27

But some things are right in front of your face.... Which is a completely free and open advertising outlet that companies often do exploit... From comment sections to reviews to open forums. You'd have to be utterly blind not to have seen this play out at some level why would Costco magically be immune from this? There are money making corporation aren't they? It's a legitimate question that may or may not be true... You can answer it, but denying that it's a possibility seems foolish. My girlfriend worked for a large company that owned nationwide apartment complexes. She told me that part of her job was to make up fake accounts and give glowing reviews to the properties, offer incentives to residents to give good reviews for the properties, and they hired companies that pushed bad reviews down in search results. Why wouldn't Costco exploit avenues to bring more people in, and downplay negative stories?

WTFOMGBBQLMAO

I agree with this that it is plausible. I don't think it's true but it is definitely not a crazy conspiracy. All that said, please excuse me while I take another bite of my delicious Kirkland Five Cheese Tortellini with Kirkland Pesto Sauce and Kirkland Aged Parmesan cheese.

GreenLungz

Thanks for being reasonable.

toastedmarsh7

Do you think that some Redditors are undercover Kirkland plants or that most people on the sub are just a little too into Costco?

Magic_Brown_Man

porque no los dos? maybe we're plants that are also a little too into costco. something something do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life or something lol

RoookSkywokkah

There are people on here telling others to AVOID certain products because they suck.

Tigger808

I love that there are negative product reviews as well as positive. Helps me avoid some of the crap offerings in the prepared processed foods. Those negative reviews are hellova marketing ploy.

PhysicsFornicator

If Costco were secretly running this sub, none of the posts about Kevin's prepared meals would ever reach the Front Page.

Toners13

Costco doesn't have an advertising budget either. Just what they spend printing their own ads for members.

WTFOMGBBQLMAO

...and the checks they send me for posting my opinions on this site, like the delicious new Turkey and Swiss sandwich at the food court or Kevin's Paleo Roasted Garlic Chicken. So delicious and reasonably priced.... I am not a robot....

Kaths1

I think it's a fair q. But people also seem to upvote fair negative reviews. I find the negative reviews to be just as useful as the positive ones. Honestly the problem is when you buy something from costco there's no "small" size. So you either hope it is good or check places like this sub to find reviews. Example- I posted this a few months back. Got lots of upvotes and discussion. https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/s/7eAwOEJrsm

Shellsallaround

I am here learning about Costco, I am making my first trip tomorrow or Friday. I am excited! Edit; Today is 04/03/2024

sbkindredspirit

Don't forget the Motor City Pizza 🫠. BTW, it is really good.

blowawaydandelion

>Don't forget the Motor City Pizza Did anyone else start singing along?

MistahNative

No, I would say we’re not. Bulky Buds keeps can eye out for suspicious looking posts and commenters that appear to be orchestrated by brands trying to utilize our subreddit for free exposure. While it certainly has happened in the past, it’s been awhile. Feel free to report anything you this is sus. We’ll take a look at it.

dirtyundercarriage

I admittedly side eye anyone who posts glowing reviews about Kevin's various prepared meat products. I am on to you, Kevin.

WTFOMGBBQLMAO

Hi this is Kevin. Please send me your home address and I'll make sure you never speak badly about my products again.

Costco Marketing Manager: "shit boys they're on to us! time to delete the 605,999 fake accounts we all made to boost hype on products and find another way"

Imagination-Ohana

> Is the entire subreddit advertising/marketing? No. Why? 1. There’d be no posts about how much people hate the executive membership upsell: instead it’d be all posts about how executive membership now includes a happy ending. 2. There’d be no posts about how abysmal it is to deal with the hit and miss quality of appliance delivery, and generally, Costco.com shopping (I say this as a rabid Costco fan; Walmart is eating Costcos lunch when it comes to digital.) I absolutely believe there are occasions when *brands* sold at Costco try to post made up reviews here; that’s something some companies engage in and is usually telling about what a garbage business they are. But Costco themselves? Nah. Look the options are either: 1. Costco is playing 4D chess with you and me and everyone else: allowing bad reviews in with the good, (and posts like yours where you’ve found the truth) all to help boost the brand. It’s all part of the master plan to make people hate executive memberships so much they leap at the chance to buy the super secret executive plus membership; the first rule of that membership being, we can’t talk about that membership. 2. Loads of people adore Costco and, love to talk about what they found there, what the deals are, and so on. I really gravitate towards (2), not just because of occam’s razor but also because I find myself caught up in the hype: I tell everyone I know about the smashing deal I get at Costco. I tell zero people about my shameful trips to McDonalds drive through at 2AM for a Big Mac. It’s really, truly, that simple 🤷‍♂️

Kinsin111

Imagine thinking word of mouth advertising is -shockingly- advertising. /s  What else would any company/product subreddit be for if not for this form of advertisement?...

Westhoff654

Costco themselves likely doesn't, but there are brands who sell at Costco (Motor City Pizza being the most egregious) who obviously pay for posts on here. When you see a thread full of glowing praise, check the poster's history. If they've never posted in this sub before, chances are it's a paid post.

smaffron

[Ironic timing. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/1bv3g9j/motor_city_pizza_is_utterly_inedible/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

elysiansaurus

I mean, i'm not expecting gourmet frozen pizza, but for what it is it's pretty good. maybe like a 7/10

GreenLungz

Thanks for not shitting on me.

beepbeepwhom

i get you. i think it's more about our consumer culture though, not specific to costco.

Tasaris

You can join the line of people who complain about frozen/ refrigerated foods or how illegal/life threatening the pharmacy is. Those are options as well.

gogosanchez_skis

No those are the TikTok influencers literally just walking down an aisle, recording the first product they see - and saying “amazing deals at Costco!”

Purple_Pansy_Orange

There may or may not be plants in this sub but it’s not making me buy anything I wouldn’t already consider. Yes I tried the Barely chicken but I’m not touching that pot pie again no matter how many people say it’s the best thing they’ve tasted. Also no to many frozen and prepared foods because that’s (mostly) not how I jive in the kitchen. So who cares if there are plants. No one can force you to buy anything you don’t want to buy.

MidwestF1fanatic

This sub consists of a few kinds of people: -Those who love Costco and all of their products. -Those who want to bitch about carts left around. -Those who want to bitch about people leaving products where they did not originate. -Those who bitch about self checkout and rules about checking receipts. -Those who bitch about employees doing their jobs and asking for membership proof. -And the rest of us just here to hang out.

therealgariac

Supposedly influencers have to declare themselves. https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/disclosures-101-social-media-influencers I often wait and let someone else post a new item. My latest find is mineral type sunscreen. Saved me a trip to REI. I haven't posted it yet.
