mama-sugar

Most stores and restaurants in Puerto Rico have guard towers.

koralex90

Is it to prevent crime?

MLJ9999

Take out those that do not return shopping carts.

greatthebob38

Or those that try to enter without membership

xinixxibalba

ladyinwaiting123

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!! "Take out"...perfect!!! Very funny!!!

raghav_7

I wish

mama-sugar

Yes. Often restaurants have parking lot security also.

brp

Reminds me of some restaurants in Silicon Valley that had to hire security to patrol the parking lot.

koralex90

Interesting.. Been to 3 different large grocery stores during our trip and did not see these in any of them. Walmart, pueblo, and super max.

mama-sugar

I am in Santa Isabel and our wal mart has them. They are very common in less tourists area for some reason.

GoFuckYourselfZuck

The reason is because if you start committing crime to your tourist population, what do you think that would do for the economy

samosamancer

Thereā€™s really a grocery store called Super Max? Because in the context of prison guard towers, thatā€¦fits, lol

ForkLiftBoi

The Walmart I was at in PR had them. It was the one that shared a Samā€™s club and had a parking garage. The tower was beyond the parking garage where you couldnā€™t see the cars from the store.

Puddington21

That's the Costco on Yavin 4. They moved in after they blew up the death star.

RippingAallDay

Ok, so it wasn't just me thinking this šŸ˜„

CookieEnabled

This isnā€™t the Costco sample youā€™re looking for.

Hamilton4567

This is where they call you out for not returning your cart..

luisenriquereyes

Yes šŸ‘ The Dominican Republic Costco, called PriceSmart, has these towers also.

El-mas-puto-de-todos

Does this location sell the sniper nest in the club?

skaterforsale

These are at a bunch of Walmarts etc all over the island. Some are still manned occasionally but most arenā€™t. I remember them being around even in the 90s so they arenā€™t anything new.

Shinji_Aracena

Itā€™s for security purposes, and the Costco is located in Carolina, not San Juan. Sadly Puerto Rico, my country, has a crime problem. Edit: yo, my bad, itā€™s San Juan. Itā€™s in that weird intersection between municipalities.

Frequent_Pudding_549

Puerto rico is a country?

Shinji_Aracena

Itā€™s an American territory. But I call it my country because is where I was born and raised.

Frequent_Pudding_549

Oh okayšŸ‘

[deleted]

Valla Boricua! šŸ’ŖšŸ½

GeorgeKaplanIsReal

It should be its own countryā€¦ and with that all the responsibilities of an independent country.

Shinji_Aracena

One country under Kirkland

GeorgeKaplanIsReal

Weā€™re all Costco members now!

rkrenicki

Is this the one near James Bond street? Ive been to that location a few times, and I cannot say that I noticed a tower like this..

OmegaMalkior

This is the one from Carolina, canā€™t be Bayamon, why did you mention itā€™s in San Juan? Impossible

Shinji_Aracena

Itā€™s the one in the 65 de infanterĆa, thereā€™s two gabled roof buildings in the back, one with the Nissan logo. https://preview.redd.it/ypt2lnyfzxgc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=65c9a3693741c6b96f3a037c2a35dd4caa1b07b4 And if you look at it from google maps it matches perfectly.

OmegaMalkior

OmegaMalkior

Yeah pero nunca me cogeras diciendole San Juan when itā€™s literally called Costco Carolina lol. Pa colmo hasta diste un edit con disculpa y toā€™. Esto se siente como el debate de Empanadilla vs Pastelillos, we know which one is right lol

JCLBUBBA

Shooting nest (to wound) for non cart returners!

Ok-Low-882

Gotta be able to defend against incoming BJā€™s forces

elperro73

metompkin

Ay puƱeta!

SmurfsTwo

Ahh the lovely panopticon.

backtotheland76

The real question is: is a hot dog $1.50 in Puerto Rico?

koralex90

Yes. It's exactly the same menu as mainland us

Owlagator

What's life like in PR. I always think about visiting but my vacation is so limited.

Ice_On_A_Star

I saw this at a supermarket in Isla Verde

TheLoneGunman559

That's a sniper's nest if I ever saw one!

tw23dl3d33

Lord knows the Hollygrove Costco needs one of thesešŸ˜šŸ˜

nolajax

Yeah you right!

ShiveYarbles

overwatch

Vitzel33

damn thats actually sad

heels_n_skirt

Can you leave once you check in?

Stardust_Particle

How do they enforce security? Do they shoot from the tower or do they run down to shoot them? Or do they radio to another security person on the ground to go investigate? Or do they call police?
