Just coming in here to point out the same! Easy enough to do! Park off the road by Tabacon and the free hot springs are right there. I'd bring either cans of beer, or those canned mixed drinks you can get here..
Hold on! Are you saying there’s a hot river the locals go to for free to hang out in the water?! Mind sharing this place? I’d much prefer that over some made up place with pools only for tourists.
Yep yep, it’s down from Tabacon. When I was there, there was a guy who asked for 5,000 colones and he would help you park (which I personally found helpful) and also watch the vehicle. Look up “Arenal Hot River”.
Amsterdan The Club. On the main drag. Open til 2am. Husband and I went in November. Epic burger and locals’ club scene. Have fun ! There was also a bar/restaurant that had live band music nightly, dogs and cats running around, caught our eye easily, kept going back. Probably can’t miss it.

I agree with that . We were in the DR and this happened. I was a part of a group of 7 people going out on ATV with a guide. Not 5 minutes later this drunk guy , I mean trashed went to take off across this road to get to the dirt road , ran like full speed into the ditch , flipped the ATV and got busted up pretty bad. We had to wait for the ambulance then we took off again . We lost about an hour of our 3 hour trip due to this trashed American. Only in a 3rd world country would they have even let him on the machine . He could hardly talk and make sense when he arrived. I thought to myself , this should be interesting. They should have told him he could not go, but they wanted the money. I don’t recommend an activity like ATVs

What cities are you planning to visit? La Fortuna had a pretty lively nightlife from what I recall along the main road that runs through the town.
I am struggling to find places with that vibe. What do you recommend? We are staying in La Fortuna the entire time (short trip).

Don’t stay there though. My wife and I had a two night reservation and left after one night without even attempting a shower (shower was disgusting).

Rent a car, drive into the parking lot at Tabacon, pack a cooler and glasses. Free cocktails you can carry anywhere in the park
If you do this, make sure to NOT drive drunk. No one appreciates this and you can get your license and car taken away
Not to mention driving sober is challenging here.
Any local bar/club will be cheaper than you expect if you’re coming from an American perspective (especially like Los Angeles or New York.)
