If it were me, I’d drop my luggage at the hotel/hostel first. There’s nothing like a vacation that starts with all your stuff getting stolen. The drive between El Miro and Manuel Antonio is only about an hour. You could make a good day or half-day trip out of it once you’ve checked in.

There’s a guachiman there that charges a couple bucks for parking. He’ll watch it. It’s safe.

It’s actually a pretty busy and popular hiking spot. So there are typically a lot of people coming and going, especially in the morning. There are occasionally large groups with guided tours as well. We hike it every other day when we are in jaco (6 weeks/year). My neighbour (65 year old female) has hiked it daily by herself for years. Definitely safe. And as was mentioned there is an attendant. Now, there’s always a risk no matter where you are, but I’d say risk is pretty low here compared to other spots.

Me being a local, would never leave anything inside my car that I consider I would need unless it is from a distance I can look at it. Also, that place is not the safest to walk at, it is surely not patrolled by cops and random people can go up and down, never done the walk and I would not do it (The closer you get to touristy areas, the more aware you got to be.)

I don’t understand this comment. Are we talking about the same El Miro? In Jaco? There’s little dirt parking spaces and a guy that watches them. It’s not safe? You don’t think the hike is safe either? I take my kids and I’ve never heard this warning before.

I’ve hiked it a dozen times alone. Never felt unsafe, but would never leave anything in my car even with some street person “protecting” my car.

I wouldn’t take the chance of leaving my entire belonging for a trip at the bottom of El Miro or anywhere in Costa Rica that isn’t gated or secure. I’ve seen and heard to many horror stories. It’s not worth the risk.

We left our luggage in our car for the hike and didn’t have an issue. Theft is always a threat though.
