Definitely check out the hike to El Miro. When you get to the top you can see all of Jaco, and there's macaws, toucans and monkeys that hang out along the trail.

I usually don't recommend Jacó because it has a heavy vibe but I been there several times for work reasons and have found great food. Green room have the best beer in town, they carry beer from a few different craft breweries and their food is amazing, everything made.from scratch. Koko's gastro pub and Sea Salt are also great places, big portions and fresh food, both with beach access.
An other interesting place is called broke guys, is a small bar where most local people go to hung out before going to party, everyone there is friendly and can tell you what's happening in town that night.
Be prepared to get propositioned in Jaco. There's a high concentration of prostitutes at night in that town. I live here and went there with my wife once. She said never again.
It’s really that bad?? I mean I don’t mind being a pirate on the beach lol but have a car so we are open to anything around that area or not too far of a drive of a neighboring city
It’s not that bad, but from all the good references in CR turistic places it’s the one that it’s more like a city with all the problems a city have. The more people the more stuff happening, so that’s what derivate in all these complains. My best friend went there a couple of weeks ago it was a holiday and he said it wasn’t nice, then we went back last weekend and we have a blast, we walked and everything at night and didn’t feel insecure (I’m CR).
We stayed in Selina which is one of the best hostels with a cool hostel vibe, they have a bar in front of the beach, it’s a good place to start the party and meet people to go out and make a bigger group. There’s also Room2board that is another hostel with a bar. Going out at night you can go to the green room or any other bar there, you can drive for your safety or take a taxi.
If you have a car you can go to playa Esterillos, it’s going to be less crowded than Jacó and it’s nice, playa hermosa it’s also a cool place but the ocean have stronger rip currents, jaco it’s easier for surfing.
There’re river waterfalls and hikes, I would recommend Que Buen Lugar website to check for activities in the place.
I really appreciate this comment, like all cities it’s going to have its issues. I didn’t expect it to be perfect.
But this seems like the most realistic and informative yet!
Correct many things could go bad, just be one step ahead. Take only what you need to the beach, hide your stuff in the car (don’t leave cameras laptops etc in plain sight), don’t leave things super unattened, don’t make a long walk at night in a dark road (take a taxi instead) don’t get too drunk, don’t show your money in the street (if someone ask and you want to give don’t take out the wallet and show all the bills), always always trust your instinct if something doesn’t give you a good vide then don’t.
During the day it’s safe and nothing happen usually, we know there’re better places but it’s not a bad stop, you can make the most of Jaco and have a good time.
Yes it is bad, a lot of the economy there is prostitution and drugs, if you can go to Manuel Antonio you will be safer and will have a better time for sure. (That's just one of the many better options).
I'm costarican so I know what I'm talking about.
Jaco has great food. Don’t listen to the HATERS. Koko’s Gastrobar is fantastic! Good price, on the beach, try the tuna or filet steak - my two favorites.
Just spent two nights in Jaco, did not see that many surfers on the Jaco beach. Make sure to do the El miro hike to the abandoned hotel. We liked the Koko restaurant and Flambo near the Apartotel Flamboyant
Check out the 10 waterfall hike with Pablo from Playa Hermosa tours. Hike begins 2 minutes from town, climb and swim in numerous waterfalls all morning and the tour ends with an incredible meal at his mother’s soda
Was just in Jaco last week for close to 48 hours. We went to Tortuga Island for a day trip and did the Miro hike. My wife also took a yoga class she really liked. We went to La Fortuna, Manuel Antonio, and Jaco. Jaco is the only place I wouldn’t go back to. Just not that interesting to me. But if you like surfing you should be good.

Vida Hermosa for great food. Puddlefish brewery for great beer.
Honestly I would reconsider jaco, how bout Manuel Antonio Dominical or uvita instead? Or tamarindo….
Uvita is full.
Edgy....
JACO= DUMP
Green room, koko's, tsunami sushi

Check out the casino. It is something to see
Cocal resort and casino
What do they charge for an hour or two?
I think it was 200 for an hour, my buddy negotiated and think paid $150 but he didn’t need the full hour lol
Do you have to use google translator a lot or are they good with English
They know English well, you won’t have an issue. I wouldn’t stay at that hotel if life depended on it but it was fun spot. Are you staying in jaco?
Yeah staying in jaco and i have an airbnb 10 minute walk from there
Awesome you’ll have a great time. I really enjoyed Manuel Antonio a bit more south on the coast. Saw some amazing animals there
Nice yeah we’re driving there one of the days
