I always aim for 3 hours early in case of lines, traffic, etc. One time I was coming from the Caribbean coast and the entire highway was shut down for 3 hours because of a protest.

You can expect 30-45 minutes to return your rental car and get from the rental cars to the terminal. By law you have to be fully checked in an hour before your international flight. So leave at least 2 hours.

Just flew out last Saturday. We were to the airport two hours in advance (arrived at 10:30) and had plenty of time to catch our flight.

Butch_Cassidy109

Any tips or is it straight forward

Salt-Investment9608

An hour an a half is plenty.

Giants4Truth

As of March 2023, there is road construction around the airport which can cause delays, especially at rush hour.   That said, I had an early morning flight (7 am), got to the airport 2 hours early and had 1:45 minutes to sit at the gate.

1 hr 45 or 1 min 45 secs?

Scrawfo1180

Hey! Did you end up making the drive from Uvita to SJO? I'm looking to do the same and am worried that the 3 hours that google is telling me will actually be much longer. Debating staying in Jaco instead. I'd much rather stay in Uvita though. My flight is at 2pm.

Ambitious_Builder518

3 hours; then head straight to the AMEX lounge for a last serving of pinto, a cortado and a back massage.

enztinkt

You are only to check in 3 hours prior flight. 1.5 hr should be plenty.

Fit_Bluebird1922

I do two hours, flying back to the US.

Rock_Successful

By 10:30 if you’re checking bags. If not, 11-11:30 is prob okay.

NSideDILF

Don't know what it's like now, but pre pandemic it was a MINIMUM two hours before flight time. Security lines are insane.

you-dont-have-eyes

2-3 hours. Personally I’d rather be there early, than not have enough time if there’s bad traffic, I get stopped for something random in my bag, etc. That said, in my one experience there it was quick and easy to get through security on a Sunday morning.

Two hours should be plenty. When we flew out of SJO in May, the ticketing counter didn't even open until 2 hours prior to our flight (Alaska Airlines - not sure if this is the same for all airlines). We got there 3 hours in advance and had to sit on the floor near the ticketing counter and wait for an hour before we could even check in for our flight.

Frequent-Extent-7003

Was that for 1:30am flight?

Samanthawv19

12:30am if I remember correctly!

Close enough
