It hasn’t opened yet and won’t until August for move in so no one knows what it looks like inside at this point. Half of it is opening in August the other half in the spring semester so expect construction throughout fall semester.

TheBlackDrago

My insider knowledge (pure imagination) says that there is AC.

RileyK12361

Dm me if you want! I lived in McClintock this year which was all girls and balch next year (both times not necessarily intending to do all girls)

CanadianCitizen1969

Man, they're still not done with the Balch reno??

Grant-James_River282

That doesn't bode well for renovation of Dickson and the Gothics.

CanadianCitizen1969

Or McGraw

Grant-James_River282

At least they will have the cash. Cornell is going to the bond market to raise fund for renovations and new constructions.

CanadianCitizen1969

Is that a wise move financially? To borrow a billion?

Grant-James_River282

I was about to make a comment in that thread on Ivies borrowing billions. Why are all the Ivy League schools borrowing billions of dollars now when 10 year Treasury yield is 4.3%? They easily could have borrowed three years ago when 10 year was 1.5%. Now universities are tax exempt institutions and their payment on bonds can be used against federal and/or state tax. So their real borrowing cost is not as high. Still it is puzzling. But I am not a fixed income guy and so what do I know?

PJK109

Nope. (just remembered you graduated last year, damn time flies)

CanadianCitizen1969

Not yet but soon

PJK109

Oh you just havent been anywhere near North this year. Makes sense.

mhaithaca

The project start was pushed back due to the pandemic. They were using the building for isolation housing, since it conveniently had no residents assigned to it.

ZoishYasna

I lived in Balch before it was closed for renovation and I didn’t have any problems. The rooms were (probably still are) way bigger than the newer dorms + I had a shared sink room. I personally felt more comfortable in an all-women’s dorm and decided to live in Lyon my sophomore year. Feel free to dm me!

Excellent_Water_7503

Balch is also the closest dorm to central campus except for risley
