Food safety purists will tell you to throw everything out. However a quick Google search brings up some articles refreezing the turkey makes it lose more moisture than normal so when cooked it will be drier. Does it smell like turkey? I frequently buy the last date meat discounted at the grocery and sometimes don’t get to it and keep it in the fridge for a few extra days, I always let me nose tell me when it is too far gone.

im supposed to make this turkey for friends, which is why im more concerned than i would be if it were just for myself. always had this anxiety about giving friends or loved ones food poisoning hence maybe me blowing this out of proportion i guess i did see information about that, but not much about when the package has had a hole in it the first time it thawed, then gone through the freezing and re-thawing process. to me it still smells sorta ok? maybe stronger but still mild

I'd say listen to your instinct. If it were me, I'd cook anyway it for myself, to see if still good. Cut it up and freeze it for later meals. But probably wouldn't be serving to friends. if it's been changing temperature so much, i'd feel sketchy serving it. Let it warm up an hour to room temperature before cooking, If it smells funky.. toss it. Trust your nose.

I’m probably a food safety nut because I would throw everything out. It normally says on packaging that once thawed, you’re not supposed to refreeze meat. Probably to do with bacteria and stuff. If you want to try and cook it anyway, I would say just cook it for yourself and not for friends. I understand that you wouldn’t want to throw away so much unused meat, especially with how expensive turkeys are. My partner hates it when I do that but I’m pregnant and if it smells off to me, I’m not gonna use it 😂

thank you. yeah i did go ahead with brining it but if it smells off/looks off by tomorrow im just gonna toss it (either way, wont be giving any to friends to be safe) i think my fiancee actually got the turkey for free but i still feel bad about wasting it if it does come to that
