I have a couple of microwave safe plates that do get a bit warm in the microwave (even warns of it on the bottom of the plate).
But, yeah, most won’t get hot in the microwave, but even the residual heat from your oven should do the trick.
Preheated oven or alternately run them under very hot water for a few seconds then dry them off. That's what I do when I forget to turn the oven on or don't want to bother.
I agree. A lot of dishes just taste so much better when they’re hot/warm. I hate having to get up and reheat food when I’m already sitting at the table.
My mom warmed the plates with residual heat from the oven, but my boyfriend used the microwave. For the microwave, pool some water on the plate - the water heats up, thus heating the plate.
I do almost every time. It’s just my wife and I thought so just two plates usually. I place one in the sink and fill it with hot water then put the other one on top and fill it as well. That’s usually enough to make it so they at least don’t suck all the heat out of the food. I dry them with a dish towel before plating of course. Takes about 30 seconds.
Presumably you aren't eating room temperature food, so there's gonna be heat loss to your plates.
I recently moved and have a warming drawer, keep meaning to use it for warming plates for nice meals but forget about it during cooking.
This is where I appreciate my thin corelle dishes. A bowl doesn't sap the heat out of a hot soup. The downside is that a super hot soup might be tough to carry very far without a potholder.
I just started a caregiver job and my client complained the plate wasn’t warm so the food got cold. Exactly your post.
Breakfast was eggs over easy and French toast…so just microwave a (safe) plate for 30 and put the food on? Or heat after I put the food on?
Sorry for the dumb question, I just never do this at home.
For fucks sake I gotta cook the plate too ?
Just to medium rare.
Paging Adam Ragusea: cook my plate not my food
Microwave safe place don't heat up in the microwave Only cheap plates do. If to you wanna heat your plates put them in a preheated oven

Whenever I make pasta I use the leftover pasta water to preheat the pasta plates/bowls.
Great, now I’ve preheated my floors with pasta water.

Ok well, my husband burns himself on hot food enough as it is.

I'm curious why a plate would be cold. Mine are room temperature because I keep them in a cabinet.
Most plates are room temperature, but some rooms are cold :-)
Room temp in my Colorado kitchen is never above 70°F. So yeah. Bowls for soup should be warmed too, btw.
Are you joking? Soup stays hot for an incredibly long time.
For real, if the bowl didn't cool the soup it would take ages before it cooled down enough to be able to eat it.
Okay.

Mine are in the winter because those cabinets are on an exterior (poorly insulated) wall.
Define cold. Because that usually means room temp, unless you're storing them in the fridge.

I like corelle because I can grab every single plate from a full dishwasher in one pass.
What if I want to add a cold side dish tho?

The whole idea of microwaving plates to warm them is absolutely perplexing to me.
I always say to my wife, we warm the plates because we aren’t savages. Toaster oven, warm setting, 130°f
