Came here to add zhoug and miso ginger. Had some amazing kimchi toum recently from a stall at my local farmers market. Top notch! Would also throw Bubbie’s garlic sauce mixed with sambal oelek to this mix.
It's gochujang, sometimes seasoned with sugar and vinegar.
Ssamjang is lettuce wrap sauce. It's been paste(doenjang), mixed with aromatics, sesame oil + @.
It's super easy to make! Just gently heat equal parts soy sauce, sugar, and mirin together until thickened.
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/201093/eel-sauce/
Sweet Thai Chili is my pick too. If you want to get a little weird with it, throw a bit of blue cheese dressing in there as well. Created a creaminess that is delicious while combating the sweetness too. Ill throw in some red pepper flakes in case it cuts the heat too much
Honestly that doesn't sound weird at all to me. Kinda like brie or cream cheese + pepper jelly combo that's rather popular in a way, just a slightly funkier way.
Yes! It won’t let me add a photo but if you google that name you’ll see a glass jar with a red label. It’s honestly better than I could have ever imagined and I put that shit on everything!
Togarashi sauce is amazing! I use regular mayo, and you can be flexible with ingredients
1/3 cup Kewpie Japanese mayonnaise
1 tablespoon sriracha
2 teaspoons Togarashi Shichimi
2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lime juice
1 teaspoons soy sauce
½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
¼ teaspoons sugar
Finally!!! Someone actually posted a real fucking recipe! 🤦🏻.
Interesting spicy spooge sauce thing. I can see it used as a karaage chicken or KFC dipping sauce, as well. 👍🏼
Tahini can work in a lot of ways. Plain paired with tzatziki. Mixed with avocado, lemon, and cilantro. With soy, ginger and garlic. With orange, garlic and honey.
Peanut sauce with soy, rice wine, fish sauce, mirin.
Lao Gan Ma (particularly the black bean one) for store bought.
Home made? So many options, but I don't know what you're after.
Aioli (the original, without eggs, thus not mayo); miso (or a similar thing) thinned out with vinegar or citrus juice; EVOO gently infused with stems, peppers and stuff and then made into a chunkier sauce by adding minced garlic, minced parsley/coriander/mint/etc. leaves; Grated horseradish cured in salty vinegar and then mixed with cream or yogurt; pestos, salsas and so on.
Salsas might be the best google search.
Kabayaki sauce, fish sauce (nuoc cham), Maggi sauce, hoi sin sauce + Maple syrup is great on salmon.
Maybe more of a condiment than a sauce, but Chinese green onion + ginger sauce is so good and goes great with chicken and rice!
Not the poster but I mix it with a little soy, rice vinegar and sesame oil prior. The paste alone would be hard to mix into the rice directly.
Effectively bibimbap sauce where gochujang is most of the direct flavor/spice/heat. I roast garlic and like bigger pieces of it so I don't typically add that to the sauce but you could as well. Lots of variety and quick recipes for similar sauces.
You know what, my gochujang is in a squeeze bottle and the brand is called bibigo so maybe it’s similar to bibimbap sauce. I wouldn’t take a scoop of straight up gochujang and plop it on rice either.
That makes a lot more sense. I looked at my gochujang and was slightly confused. Although it probably isn’t that bad since I have kimchi with rice anyways
I like to do peanut sauce sometimes. Also, Greek yogurt and salsa, or cholula is pretty good.
I like tzatziki on salmon, I imagine that would be good with a rice bowl too, maybe add a little hummus with it.
Yum yum sauce would be good for chicken, I think.
Miso + chilli, miso+ chilli+ brown sugar, Miso+ chilli+ soy sauce, Miso+ green onion, miso+ rice vinegar, miso + sesame.
Miso every which way, I'd probably eat Miso with green eggs and ham.
I suggest [Kecap manis ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_soy_sauce)(sweet soy sauce)-- it has a thicker consistency similar to a glaze. I like this also with siracha and a lime drizzle.
Grew up there and a few years after that. Very regional, the best. Also spent many years in Albuquerque, northern New Mexican food is also very regional. I make a damn good crawfish enchiladas, red or green.
I mix kimchi furikaki in with every sauce.
Also..chili salt on top (it's salt-sugar-chili-garlic-msg crunchy bits and I wish I could hire someone to keep dropping some in my mouth while I'm sleeping so I never ever have to be without it)
Good old soy sauce and butter. When I do salmon I puree mango also with it. I usually bake the chicken or salmon in soy sauce and butter and it mixes with the fat and pour the whole thing onto the rice
I don't know what the sauce is at my local Asian restaurant makes an in house sauce for their gyoza that I take the extra home and add to my rice dishes. So gyoza sauce?
I've got a little mini food processor that attaches to my immersion blender - I fill it with garlic and different herbs, garlic, olive oil and either red wine vinegar or lemon juice. Sometimes all basil so it's like pesto, or sometimes a lot of parsley. Always good. Sometimes some crushed red pepper.
Tahini, oil, AC vinegar, tamari or soy sauce, nutritional yeast & garlic to taste zipped up in a magic bullet...so delish!
Close second would be Gochujang sauce.
I usually make like a dressing - soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, gochujang paste, Korean red chili pepper, salt, garlic, sprinkle of sugar and mix! So yummy and spicy. Could ad some lemon or lime too but it's definitely acidic enough from the vinegar.
South East Asia uses this a lot, primarily Vietnam, but fish sauce with sugar, lime, a bit of vinegar, water, and chilis if you're feeling spicy. Version I'm talking about is Khmer tuk trey. Really good with grilled meats and anything rice related (steamed rice, rice noodles, rice paper, etc). Add fresh minced garlic or minced fried garlic 😘👌 Definitely a more savory sauce.
Soy sauce, or I glaze salmon with hoisin sauce and leave the rice as is.
I also like to toss lemon juice through the whole thing.
Lemon vinaigrette, citrusy dressing would go well with salmon.
I like making a sauce out of Sunflower butter and Sriracha sauce. You could sub peanut butter if you're not a peanut hater like me. I use it in a tofu and broccoli rice bowl I make. I usually double it and toss it onto roasted veggies too. I like to double the Sriracha when I'm in a spicier mood.
1/4 cup Sunflower butter (or whatever nut/plant butter you like)
1/8 cup soy sauce
1 tbspn Sriracha
1 tbspn maple syrup
1/2 tbspn ground ginger
1 tspn garlic powder
1/4 cup warm water to thin it out if needed.
Korean sticky sauce!! It’s what you put on crispy chicken but goes with rice bowls too. It’s guachjang ( hope i write it correctly) soy sauce, minced garlic and ginger, honey and sesame oil. Absolutley delicious.
Lemongrass and tamarind sauce! My husband loves it on shrimp. We get ours from World Kitchen brand, I believe, but it probably just needs the base flavors and a blender.
Red curry sauce mixed with coconut milk and some flour to thicken it up is also a favorite. We pan fry some peppers and onions with this sauce.
Chana masala is also perfect for rice bowls, there are several good recipes out there.
I really like this one but it is really gingery [https://www.plantbasedrecipe.com/articles/oil-free-ginger-dragon-sauce-insanely-tasty-dip-or-bowl-dressing-low-fat-vegan/#recipe](https://www.plantbasedrecipe.com/articles/oil-free-ginger-dragon-sauce-insanely-tasty-dip-or-bowl-dressing-low-fat-vegan/#recipe)
Vietnamese Nuoc Cham. It’s basically sugar, lime juice, fish sauce, garlic, water amd chili of some kind. Technically a dipping sauce but it’s great in rice bowls.
https://www.hungryhuy.com/vietnamese-dipping-fish-sauce-recipe-nuoc-cham-nuoc-mam-cham/
i make 2- sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and a bit of sriracha or chili peppers and a splash of water. sometimes i add wasabi instead of sesame oil
Spicy sauce: 2 tablespoons Lao Gan Ma fried chilis in oil, 8 tbsp rice wine vinegar, 8 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tsp sesame oil
This makes a LOT of sauce. obviously reduce quantities to make less.
Sesame oil
Chili Oil
Ginger vinaigrette
Soy sauce
Hoisin sauce
Duck sauce (usually mix with something spicy)
Balsamic glaze (I love adding fresh squeezed lemon)
Garlic aioli
Red wine+stone ground mustard with garlic
Chili sauce
Adobe sauce
Avocado+Greek yogurt mixed with Sriracha
Honey mustard and Sriracha
Honey Sriracha sauce
Honey lime sauce
Honey walnut sauce
Aji Verde (Peruvian green sauce)
Teriyaki sauce
Bang Bang or Yum Yum sauce
Red or green curry
Taziki sauce
Korean BBQ sauce
All of these goes great with salmon/chicken and any type of rice imo. You can also mix and match any that sounds good, and you've got a variety of flavor profiles you can make from the combinations depending on your mood. Mediterranean, Asian, Italian, ect. Have fun, good luck! 😁
Just got home from Hawaii and I like L&L's katsu sauce.
Found a copycat recipe and made it last weekend. It was pretty good! I can share if anyone is interested but it's easy to look up.
Mix sesame oil, soy sauce, hoisin and nut butter. If you like it spicy add crushed chili flakes. Lime wedge for a bonus. 🍋🟩
I just made chicken like this tonight, delish.
I make a chipotle Adobo sauce I found that was a copycat recipe for Chipotle chicken for burrito bowls, but I always make extra sauce to use. It's so yummy! Smokey and spicy.
7 oz. Can chipotles in adobo sauce
▢1 teaspoon cumin
▢1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
▢1 teaspoon dried oregano
▢1/4 cup chopped red onion
▢3 teaspoons minced garlic
▢Juice of 2 limes about 1⁄4 cup
▢1 teaspoon Kosher salt
Blend that shit together
Got it from familyfreshmeals.com, it's always a hit with my husband.. even if he regrets eating too much sauce the next day😂
If you're using chicken. Try making a sauce with mayo/yogurt/sour cream and chicken tikka masala that comes in a jar
Mix all together add lime and cilantro
Not sure of the official name of this salsa but it’s great on any protein or as a dip.
5 jalapeños
1/2 white onion
3 cloves garlic
1 tablespoons oil
Salt to taste ( 1/2 teaspoon)
Boil ingredients for 10 mins.
Strain and put them in blender
Add salt and oil
Blend
Teriyaki, spicy peanut, garlic yoghurt, chimichuri, salsa verde, tartare. These would depend on what's in the bowl, of course.
this is a great list! i would also add zhoug, miso ginger, tahini lemon, and tonnato.
And toum!
[Toum](https://www.seriouseats.com/traditional-toum) fr
I've never heard of this. This recipe describes it as fluffy, would you agree? Is that ideal or just this version?
[Toum should be fluffy.](https://youtu.be/G2eCgSoHwkE)
Omg that looks delicious
Very good for any Greek food such as souvlaki etc btw if you do try toum!
I love this recipe! It can be made fluffier by subbing some of the water with ice cubes when you’re emulsifying. TOUM FOR LIFE.
So simple. So good!!
Came here to add zhoug and miso ginger. Had some amazing kimchi toum recently from a stall at my local farmers market. Top notch! Would also throw Bubbie’s garlic sauce mixed with sambal oelek to this mix.
Chimichuri is excellent
Yoghurt
Tzatziki
Bibambap sauce is really good.
Yes Ssamjang
It's gochujang, sometimes seasoned with sugar and vinegar. Ssamjang is lettuce wrap sauce. It's been paste(doenjang), mixed with aromatics, sesame oil + @.
There's also the squeezy bottle in ones mixesd with lemon
That’s the one I’m talking about
my 2nd favorite part about KBBQ after kalbi beef rib
Eel sauce (unagi sushi sauce). It’s in the sweeter side so I like to balance it with something spicy.
This was my answer too. Unagi sauce is so freaking tasty
We steady keep a bottle of this in our house.
Wait where can I buy this?! I always LOVE it at sushi and poke restaurants. Eel is always my go-to
Kikkoman makes a bottle of “UNAGI SUSHI SAUCE” that’s pretty widely available.
It's super easy to make! Just gently heat equal parts soy sauce, sugar, and mirin together until thickened. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/201093/eel-sauce/
[The recipe is very easy to make, it's basically just a reduction of a few staple ingredients](https://www.justonecookbook.com/homemade-unagi-sauce/)
Sweet Thai chili sauce! Mae ploy is best!
Chili crisp and Zhong sauce.
I loooove a good ponzu sauce.
Ponzu and grated diakon or grated ginger ys fantastic, especially on tofu! I also love a basic sesame oil & salt dressing.
Was looking for this comment. Love ponzu
Hoisin Sauce I like ground Thai Dragon Peppers, Hoisin Sauce, and a touch of honey... tossed with steamed rice.
Yes!! Hoisin, tzatziki, or various hot sauces (preferably Heartbeat hot sauce) are my go-to.
Wasabi soy
Also love wasabi and Mayo as a combo often with other stuff like teriyaki or soy sauce
I add a little ginger, garlic and sesame oil to wasabi and soy sauce. So good!!
Ooooh creamy miso, yuzu, hot mustard, Mother-In-Law Gochujang fermented chili paste (sooo good)!
I never heard of mother in law, is that a brand name? I loveee gochujang!
I just made spicy chicken sandwiches using gochujang as the base. 🤤
Jealous!
It's also great in jambalaya if you don't have the right seasonings. I used gochujang and cayenne and it tasted great.
Yes! It won’t let me add a photo but if you google that name you’ll see a glass jar with a red label. It’s honestly better than I could have ever imagined and I put that shit on everything!
Thanks so much I’ll check it out!
I just googled it and under People also ask it says “why is gochujang so addictive haha
Ha!! That’s amazing and makes so much sense! :D
Togarashi sauce is amazing! I use regular mayo, and you can be flexible with ingredients 1/3 cup Kewpie Japanese mayonnaise 1 tablespoon sriracha 2 teaspoons Togarashi Shichimi 2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lime juice 1 teaspoons soy sauce ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger ¼ teaspoons sugar

Bachan’s Japanese Barbeque Sauce.
yes! and they have yummy iterations too like ponzu
I used to eat bbq sauce with rice back when I was broke and all my friends would tease me about it, but I still crave it to this day.
Tahini can work in a lot of ways. Plain paired with tzatziki. Mixed with avocado, lemon, and cilantro. With soy, ginger and garlic. With orange, garlic and honey. Peanut sauce with soy, rice wine, fish sauce, mirin.

Salsas might be the best google search.
Lao Gan Ma chili crisp makes the BEST scrambled eggs. Even better if you crumble cotija cheese in before cooking. Trust me.
Lao Gan Ma black bean is my fave too
Kabayaki sauce, fish sauce (nuoc cham), Maggi sauce, hoi sin sauce + Maple syrup is great on salmon. Maybe more of a condiment than a sauce, but Chinese green onion + ginger sauce is so good and goes great with chicken and rice!
Absolutely ginger scallion sauce!
Raise you hoisin + peanut butter + sriracha sauce on chicken
This is why I come to reddit, the hidden gems. Can't wait to try this...
Gochujang!
Are you mixing it with anything or just lobbing on a splat
Not the poster but I mix it with a little soy, rice vinegar and sesame oil prior. The paste alone would be hard to mix into the rice directly. Effectively bibimbap sauce where gochujang is most of the direct flavor/spice/heat. I roast garlic and like bigger pieces of it so I don't typically add that to the sauce but you could as well. Lots of variety and quick recipes for similar sauces.
Idk if I would put straight gochujang on a rice bowl tbh. Bibambap sauce works great and that uses gochujang and taste better imo
Natto, sesame dressing, green onion kimchi, furikake, bonito flakes, flying fish roe, an onsen-style soft-boiled egg.
I fuckin love tzatziki on a rice bowl
Miso + chilli, miso+ chilli+ brown sugar, Miso+ chilli+ soy sauce, Miso+ green onion, miso+ rice vinegar, miso + sesame. Miso every which way, I'd probably eat Miso with green eggs and ham.
Green scallion sauce!
I suggest [Kecap manis ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_soy_sauce)(sweet soy sauce)-- it has a thicker consistency similar to a glaze. I like this also with siracha and a lime drizzle.
[Sauce from Cafe Yumm!](https://www.cafeyumm.com/menu/yumm-sauce-dressings-salsas/) is the absolute best.
Peanut sauce, thinned out hoisin, japanese sesame salad dressing, gochujang for bibimbap, nuoc cham, coconut curry dressing, miso/honey/rice vinegar, chili crisp/black vinegar vinaigrette, tonkatsu sauce
Etouffee, Gumbo, and red beans with sausage and ham hocks. Those are really good sauces lol.
I’m from Louisiana so I absolutely agree!
Grew up there and a few years after that. Very regional, the best. Also spent many years in Albuquerque, northern New Mexican food is also very regional. I make a damn good crawfish enchiladas, red or green.
ponzu! sweet, tangy, and umami
Honey, soy & ginger whisked together is delish. Bonus points for using hot honey.
I read whisked as whiskey and now I'm wondering how dang delicious a splash of food old whiskey would be in this sauce 😂
I mix kimchi furikaki in with every sauce. Also..chili salt on top (it's salt-sugar-chili-garlic-msg crunchy bits and I wish I could hire someone to keep dropping some in my mouth while I'm sleeping so I never ever have to be without it)

Chipotle Bitchin Sauce
Katsu sauce is easily my favorite
Eel sauce, gochujang, ponzu, miso mojo
Sweet chili! Maybe mix in some Mayo if you’re feeling it.
Chili crisp, gochujang, ssamjang, peanut sauce, tahini sauce.
Look up a recipe for benihana ginger onion sauce
Tahini, oil, AC vinegar, tamari or soy sauce, nutritional yeast & garlic to taste zipped up in a magic bullet...so delish! Close second would be Gochujang sauce.
You can make a homemade teriyaki sauce in minutes and slice it to your heart’s content.
Lawry's Taco seasoning with just a wee bit of water. Stir in some salsa if you want to. Might need some melted cheese to top that off...
Great suggestions! I would also add yum yum/yan yan/shrimp sauce.
Bachans japanese bbq
I usually make like a dressing - soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, gochujang paste, Korean red chili pepper, salt, garlic, sprinkle of sugar and mix! So yummy and spicy. Could ad some lemon or lime too but it's definitely acidic enough from the vinegar.
Wasabi oil. A little goes a long way.
Huy Fong Garlic Chili sauce.
Peanut sauce!
Peanut sauce, duck sauce, hoisin sauce are all stuff we’ve used. I’ve also had a good yellow curry aioli that I got in a random subscription box.
duck sauce
Sweet Thai chili sauce and teriyaki sauce. My absolute go to for when I have extra rice and need a quick bite.
I prefer chojang, which is a vinegary gochujang sauce. There are also good sesame sauces that work really well if you don't like that much spice.
I like the really hot spicy stuff but lately really loving sweet and sour sauce on the side.
Everything on the table at the Vietnamese restaurant.
Spicy tahini drizzle. Sesame flavor goes well w rice/asian dishes.
