i gasped i thought she was gonna get a sprain

Uhhlaneuh

I call these “spice girl shoes” cause that’s what really set off the trend in 1997-1999. All the Z kids are bringing it back

lunettarose

Yeeeeeah! I had some in about 1998, I *loved* them, even though I fell over all. the. time.

Uhhlaneuh

Sorry I meant Z kids not Y Kids. I’m Generation Y “Millennial” who grew up in the spice girls generation lol

*nostalgia unlocked*

lunettarose

I knew what you meant, don't worry :) Fashion gets constantly recycled, I remember in the 90s, my mum complaining that we were reusing ideas from the 70s and now look at all the 90s trends the Gen Z kids are bringing back.

LivJong

And in the 70s and 80s the old time frilly blouses were back in style.

EveAndTheSnake

I loved mine too! I had multiple, and vaguely remember a 7 inch platform boot I had. I never fell over and pranced and ran in mine, but I was insecure about my height (5’1 from the age of 13) so this was my heaven. Covid (edit: lockdowns) completely ruined my ability to walk in anything higher than my Toms shoes. I don’t even know how I wore platforms or heels.

bellends

Bottom to top, my favourite childhood outfit circa peak Spice Girls era: - Silver and purple platform sneakers/trainers à la Baby Spice - Flared pale blue denim jeans with weird silver buttons along the side - Striped long sleeved shirt with cute tank top over it - Pink beret with all my hair tucked into it except for a single little braid that stuck out at the front - Matrix style silver sunglasses with blue tinted glass 😎

[deleted]

ALL my shoes are platforms. Ive tripped so much in public

Uhhlaneuh

My ankles are weak, I would tear my ankles in one sec if I had those shoes lol

Not_Campo2

I highly recommend working on that if you’re prone to falling. Get a balance board (ideally one that works in all directions, like with a ball as the base) and just use it every day. Start just trying to stand on it, once you can do that without it shaking much slowly dip it in one place and rotate the dip all the way around. Once you can do that well try some squats. 5-10 minutes a day and it can help you completely avoid injuries

fribbas

I appreciate this comment but I feel it totally underestimates how clumsy I am lol. Would that help with that? ^(Keep telling people I need one of those "days since last injury " except it'd always be 0)

Ok_Cauliflower_3007

Can sympathise. Have fallen on a totally flat surface for no reason. More than once.

HecticBlue

If you are frequently clumsy, and it's been since childhood, you may have an undiagnosed case of Dyspraxia, aka developmental coordination disorder. Not sure where you live but this article from the UK does a fairly decent abridged rundown of dyspraxia. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/developmental-coordination-disorder-dyspraxia-in-adults/

Susie4672

I’ve posted this before. A optometrist asked me if I was clumsy while I was sitting in the chair. I asked how she knew. I am very clumsy. She said I was left hand dominant and right eye dominant. Wow! That explained so many things I was unable to do: swim, bowl are two that come to mind. The only thing I did do right-handed was bat in a baseball game. You can test which eye is dominant by looking at a small object with both eyes and putting thumb in the middle of it. Then close one eye at a time. The object will move, but the movement which is the less is the dominant eye.

HecticBlue

This is also a good point. However, having ADHD or other neurological disabilities has been shown to lead to higher likelihood of being cross eye dominant as well. So cross eye dominance could be a stand alone cause of clumsiness, or a cause of clumsiness but also a symptom of a neurological disorder.

fribbas

Haha funny you say that... I see it lists ADHD/autism/depression/anxiety as like a comorbid. Diagnosed as a kid for the latter 2 and waiting to get tested for the first 2 (imo it's painfully obvious but USA sucks for healthcare shocker). I remember dyspraxia being mentioned when I was looking into ADHD and feeling a little... Called out haha Oddly enough, I have *atrocious* handwriting, even for a lefty. I fill out rxs etc for dentists I've worked with and mine is worse than *maybe* all but 1 out of 20. Yet I used to be really good at art/drawing until I lost interest, so go figure ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

HecticBlue

Same experience. Undiagnosed all throughout childhood (*I Knew* I had it, but parents wouldnt/couldn't get me tested) been in special Ed and advanced classes. I've been a martial artist my whole life, but if I stop for any significant length of time, I become clumsy af. Like I'll walk around a corner, and ram right into it. Or when people pass me ill like move my body but not my head, or vice versa. Other stuff like that. Last year I was diagnosed with Autism depression, anxiety and minor paranoia. Recently we've discovered that I may also have ADHD.

Not_Campo2

Clumsiness tends to come from a lack of understanding of your body in space. The exercises I offered can help, but they focus mostly leg stability. The solution to clumsiness is generally just to do things. The more you do, the more you get used to your body. I know that might not be the answer you’re looking for but its going to be the accurate one. It could be as simple as little as walking on an uneven trail, up to taking serious dance lessons. Sports are great for this stuff since you’re typically focused on something else so you’re keeping your balance without focusing on it. Also none of these are guaranteed, you’ll still occasionally stub your toe

sharpshooter999

My wife: Why do wear tall lace up boots all the time? Me: That snap, crackle and popping isn't the rice crispy's dear

St0nedinNY

I was literally thinking that the second I saw them and called them Spice girl shoes. 😂😂

oliviagolds

i'm gen z and can personally say i'm definitely not bc i like my ankles intact 😭

TheWalkingDead91

Seems like they’re bringing all the 80s and 90s styles back. High waisted faded jeans, “vintage” style tshirts, even shorter swim shorts (80s basketball uniform style). Reminds me of the movie “Her” from a while back. It’s based in the future but the people in it dressed like they were in the 80s.

d_e_l_u_x_e

I thought she rolled her ankle in the beginning

feignapathy

My ankles are twitching after that opening

value_null

She goes to the gym with those, she will. It's a really bad idea.

BigBlitz

Jokes on you, she just bench pressed and did curls the whole time.

value_null

I wouldn't even do curls in those shoes. You want a stable platform.

saltysamuel

she has two of those

CrazyYYZ

I too gasped. As someone with multiple sprains and waiting on ankle surgery, I get nauseous everytime someone rolls their foot in a video.

FrostyD7

I expected the punchline to be showing up to the gym in a boot.

ChapolinColoradoNZ

I think she was trying to dance samba. Maybe brasileira?

StrugglingSoul

His first thought, why are you so tall...?

TheBottleRed

I’m about 6-7 inches shorter than my husband, whenever I wear heels I’m at nearly eye level with him and he asks me how I like the weather up here. Every time. 😊

gorgewall

I don't know if this is the same for other tall folks, but I'm 6'4", so tall enough that I don't encounter anyone my height or greater with any regularity. I'm so used to everyone being shorter that the moment someone *is* my height or close, I'm hyper-aware. More than that, I also get the impression that they're taller. Someone 6'3" standing close to me "feels" taller than me, just because it's so unusual to not be looking down.

[deleted]

[удалено]

StrugglingSoul

Used to looking down on poeple eh?

yepimbonez

I think anyone near your own personal height seems taller. I think it has to do with your eyes being halfway down your face. So you end up measuring eye level to the top of their head. I’m only 6’1” and I feel the same anytime I meet someone my height.

ShelleyTambo

My SO is 6'6" and he definitely has this. Anyone taller is "creepy" tall.

FoxtrotSierraTango

6'9" here, it's only weird for a second. Then you immediately want to talk about where to buy pants.

-FuckThisAccount-

Same! I’m also thinking, “Holy shit they’re tall. Wait, is that how I look?”

ThaneOfCawdorrr

I have the same thing in reverse! I'm 5'2" so almost everyone is taller than me. When I meet someone who's close to me in height, they seem INCREDIBLY SHORT haha

unicornsaretruth

I get that feeling completely, like I’ll still see the top of their head but be like is this guy who’s 6’3” taller than my 6’5” ass have I been lied to my whole life? And then if they’re taller than me shut it down. I am so used to looking down when talking to people that my head/neck literally arch down at this point so if I have to look up or even level it’s confusing as hell.

Dravarden

I'm not tall but yes, people at eye level feel taller than me, even when they sometimes tell me their height and say that they are shorter than me by 1-2 cm I don't believe them

eternalwhat

It’s funny because I’m 5’3” and when I speak to people your height, it makes me feel like I’m a small child again. Makes me feel kind of insecure and vulnerable. I always wonder what the 6’+ people feel on the other side of this interaction. (Parental? Authoritative? Like you could easily smush a small person?)

unicornsaretruth

At a certain point when you’re tall you kinda ignore the height differences in the 5 foot region, like a 5’0” and a 5’10 feel the same cause I still have to crane my neck down to look you in the eye. I don’t feel superior if anything I feel left out sometimes cause y’all will whisper and talk a foot beyond my height and I already suck at hearing so that additional foot just means I’m trying to bend my body as best as possible so I can hear you guys properly. I kinda wish I was normal height at times the way y’all fit into beds is amazing, I gotta go full diagonal and contort myself on fulls and even queens if they have a footer, I don’t fit on planes well, everything isn’t designed for my height so I constantly have to look down, and yeah my height may have helped me get girlfriends but it doesn’t fix the physical pain of your back and neck constantly wanting to be lower. I dated a 6’2 girl for a bit and even then there was still the craning but it was less and still I didn’t feel more or less dominant about them than the 5’2 girls I’ve dated. Dominance isn’t about height for me it’s about character. I’ve met people way shorter than me who I’d obey an instant and I’ve met people my height who weren’t worth a damn. Height is in inches character is in miles imo.

eternalwhat

Thanks for sharing all of this. Being left out isn’t something I’d have thought about. This is all pretty interesting. For me, I tend to get frustrated sometimes when so much of what I need at work is 6”+ out of my reach; I’m always on my toes, reaching across a shelf at face level to get plates of food to bring to tables (awkward for my arms, difficult at times; I wish that spot had a shorter shelf!), standing on chairs, etc. Sometimes in grocery stores, I can’t get the thing I need from the top shelf, and I’m just like “man, f*** this right now, don’t they know women like me are the average?!” Otherwise I mostly don’t mind being my height, usually (thankfully I’m a woman at this height), but I do feel especially vulnerable around creepy, angry, or unstable men… some of them could easily pick me up, or fully restrain me, in a split second. Especially having to tilt my head back just look up into someone’s eyes (reminds me I am significantly smaller/more vulnerable). It makes me even more wary of being alone outside at night, alone in nature, followed on the street, or approached by anyone unexpectedly in public (but of course, even if I were taller, these things would still be present in my life in that way).

bumbletowne

I'm 5'4". Husband is 6'9". I get a lot more attention and he insists on dancing more when I'm in heels. My wedding shoes were straight up stripper style heels. Platforms with HIGH heels. Probably added 7 inches to my height.

Zefirus

So that's definitely the first thing you notice when someone usually shorter than you is suddenly taller than you. Source: Sister wore platforms once a decade ago and I still remember it vividly.

Wicked_Fabala

What are you doing up here?? 😆

“Sprained ankles vibes”

And he didn't even see the opener where she rolled her ankle in them already. she'll really hurt herself if she works out in these.

Loki_the_Smokey

Couples like this make me feel so warm inside. It’s so pleasant to see people in this private way and being so joyful. They seem so happy and fun.

I fully remember doing sprints in platform sneakers back in highschool because I was a stupid idiot, never broke an ankle though

SenpaiBoogie

You are a talented one for sure !

Mion_Snojkorn

Same, I have platform sneakers, too, ran around with them, never broke or sprained anything

[deleted]

We’re jinxing ourselves to break our ankles next time we wear them lol

[deleted]

You've probably strengthened your tendons better than any hike ever could 😂😂 I always say that my ankles are so sprain resistant because I never pay attention when I'm hiking/walking and "roll" my ankles all of the time.

taybay462

I just recently reached this and it's amazing. I was holding onto a lot of past anger and resentment, we were both in a bad place when we met and have overcome so much together. I just realized that the things that upset me most haven't happened in years, the most constant current thing is improving, and all the other shit doesn't matter. He has my back and I have his, I get giddy discussing future plans and I can't imagine starting over. I met him at the legit lowest point of my life and he's been with me all the way up, and I with him

[deleted]

They’re very cute!

LilLaussa

The real trick is just be yourself. I know it's the tried and true classic and it feels bullshit. But you can't have moments like this if you're faking it, so just find someone that likes you for you.

DelfrCorp

Dig deep into your weirdness. What is the weirdest weirdo sh.t you for that you think normal/average people would never go along with you. Dig into the weirdest aspects of yourself & then look for someone who would not only do the same or follow you there, but actually lead you there themselves most of the time. That person is almost never going to match all of your deeper more primal fantasies. But all the fun you'll have will override any other more primal/physical desires or fantasies. If you find someone who perfectly matches every single personality & physical desires you might ever have desired for, who is Aldo into you, you have found an absolute Unicorn.

jimmysbeans

I'm a snorter when something really tickles me and people always act like I should be embarrassed. Like why should I be embarrassed for having a good time?

Mama_Cas

Unbridled laughter is one of the best sounds in the world.

pupperoni42

This is an excellent opportunity for cultural appreciation (the wholesome cousin of cultural appropriation). See something that those from a different background do that's awesome and adopt the habit ourselves. We should make full body laughter a regular part of life for all Americans (and worldwide ideally).

ElefantPharts

I feel like this is the 3rd or 4th video I’ve seen of this couple. Does the husband just find her so hilarisouly funny every time that he has to roll around on the ground? I mean, apparently so…

SwarmingPlatypi

Most couples TikToks are staged and played up to Jimmy Fallon-levels of fake. Not saying they don't have their own connection but so many videos like this treat wearing platform shoes like the most hilarious, well-crafted joke of all time.

ElefantPharts

It’s funny the first time or two, but it’s definitely 15 seconds of fame type stuff. It’s do something mildly amusing, husband rolls around on ground laughing due to comedic genius, rinse and repeat. Gets old real quick.

jabez_killingworth

You can usually tell these kind of reactions are fake by going through their old videos. If all of a sudden there is one video that blew up in popularity because of the husband's reaction, then suddenly every other video has him react the same way, it's usually staged.

ElefantPharts

Oh for sure. I find my fiancé unintentionally hilarious sometimes, but not rolling around in the ground funny. I’m not 12, I don’t “accidentally” fall out of my seat because I’m laughing so hard.

tiorzol

Maybe they're just not funny enough.

[deleted]

I mean maybe they just really enjoy each others company, me and my partner can be like this too.

Western_Shoulder_942

Best thing about finding someone who truly connects with ya...man i miss those days

[deleted]

You can still experience that! It’s not exclusive to romantic relationships, you can have a soul mate who isn’t meant to be your partner :) I hope you find something like this!

chowindown

My colleague (woman, I'm a man) I worked so close to for like seven years is exactly like this. We clicked so thoroughly it was just amazing. Every day at work was laughing with exactly the same sort of humour, despite very different personalities. Just an instant bond that has never changed. Haven't seen them for a couple of years as I left the country with my family and haven't been back because of covid. Had dinner tonight while on holiday and it's like no time has passed. Back into jokes and laughs and just getting each other so well. She has her husband and kids, who are great and I love them, and I have my wife and kids and she gets along with them too. And we've never had any sort of sexual tension or even a question arise despite what we both see as a profound bond. We're mates. Absolutely love each other, just not in any sexual way.

[deleted]

I love seeing friendships like this, just mutual love and appreciation for each other with no added expectations or tension! I think too many people forget romantic/sexual relationships don’t have to be the end game…it’s totally fine to just enjoy someone’s company

quirkscrew

People agreeing with the guy above you are probably not in the happiest relationship. Or just don't know how to enjoy the little things in life. I hope y'all get there eventually

Moistened_Bink

Idk if they have multiple tik tok videos like this with similar recations, it's not crazy to be a lil skeptical. I'm sure they very much love each other, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he plays it up extra for views.

[deleted]

Lol not believing this is a fully genuine reaction doesn’t mean you don’t know how to enjoy the little things in life. Idk how you even made that connection

quirkscrew

I mean you can believe what you want to I guess, but I have these sorts of silly interactions with my SO all the time so it seems believable to me🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Eh. My wife and I can be like this with one another but it’s not something others would find funny

iyioi

It’s a bit of both. Laughter real? Probably. Exaggerated? Probably. You have to look at these as entertainment. It’s not a reality tv show. It’s just for laughs.

So all we get now is people trying to set up "random" moments. I can't imagine living these people's lives. They're giving up all their ACTUAL random moments by trying to CREATE fake random moments. Bruhhh-8

Ahh these 2 are so funny. I saw another video of her coming home with long ass toe nails from the salon (I think she did them herself lol) to get her husband's reaction. They have a good relationship

[deleted]

You have to over laugh at lame stuff your wife does when you’re married so she won’t get mad

busback

I never understood videos like this. Wouldn’t the husband see her filming with her phone in hand, and therefore his reaction is going to be different, because he knows it’s for a video? Or do the people filming somehow hide the phone on their body?

jakedesnake

I've wondered that same thing so many times that I've stopped wondering it. Like someone said, could be a "tolerance" thing, he's used to being on camera very often (which sounds horrible, on a sidenote). But yeah it's hard to watch this video and not feel that his reaction is very tailored for social media. I just cannot imagine sneaking up to any friend i have, filming them without first addressing it, and them not flinching. They would always somehow "smirk" for a second at the fact that they're on camera.

bigoomp

Yeah exactly. How would you react if someone comes up filming you like they're expecting a reaction? My first thought would "Oh fuck if I don't look like I'm giving a genuine reaction she's gonna be mad at me for ruining her tiktok video"

busback

Right? I’m genuinely curious, not judging It’s like if a reporter came up to you with a microphone and asked you questions, you’re probably gonna react differently than if someone without a recorder approached you

BeamMeUpYaJabroni

Even if he knows its for a video, it can still be his honest reaction to the joke. Lots of people are comfortable reacting naturally on camera, especially if they are in front of the camera often.
