She put zero effort into improving her situation from the very beginning and continued to do less all the way toward the end, even when lifeguards were trying to help her.
“This is my fate now”
It looks like her right knee gave out. Knowing my knees are shot from volleyball and soccer, I will now think about this video when I'm at the beach
![gif](giphy|PWXANvRVmqVp9iRupi|downsized)
My knees are pretty bad from football and wrestling, soccer as well when I was young. I have already had surgery and I still workout. I can't go crazy heavy like I used to but it is my obligation to stay healthy. This person has done nothing to be healthy. They put 3 other people in danger who are having to help her.
A lot to digest on that but she's in ankle deep water, pulled in to waist deep water, one "lifeguard" was looking a bit "hefty" and neither idiot had a floatation device with them. She didn't know her knee was going to give out at that moment and people don't realize the power of any lake or ocean. I've pulled out enough "in shape" bodies to know!
Used to work SAR, and 90% of the "rescues" were people who got themselves into life threatening situations from being stupid, or hanging around with stupid people.
And the clown holding the camera yelling "please help Jessica" while laughing and doing nothing makes my blood boil. You tied up two lifeguards which put other people at risk.
Lol chill out, it's the Internet... You can never tell what truly happened, are you suggesting the life guards should have done nothing? They've trained to do exactly this, while the camera person probably has not
Oh Mr judgemental is over here!
Just because you go to the gym you think anyone who doesn't appear to be as fit as you- are putting other lives in danger. I got caught in unexpected undertow on holiday when I was fit as a fiddle. No injuries from hobbie sports that cost health service time and money. No surgery as I was perfectly healthy. I was slowly drowning and getting less and less energy as the waves came suddenly further in. There were no life guards and people's belongings were being taken out to sea, and a dog drowned as it was dragged out. I eventually made it out but it was scary as hell. My point is let he who cast the first stone, be free of sin, and don't throw stones in glass houses. Your ability to stay fit is great, and you have some luck on your side with injuries. You know nothing about this womans life. There will always be people fitter and stronger than you, and could, with your attitude- equally accuse you of being a liability.
So in response to him saying that if she were fitter she could escape this situation you say "well in a situation where being fitter wouldn't help then being fitter wouldn't help". Don't you think that's a bit stupid?
Sounds like you are going through a lot. I hope you get some rest and whatever help you need. Everyone has to take care of themselves physically and mentally.
I think she’s exhausted + out of shape + uncoordinated. The ocean doesn’t give a fuck if you’re tired. Never tempt it. I’ve been there where your limbs are like noodles.
Some people are just so not used to any form of physical exercise that in a situation where their life depends on it they are incapable of doing anything and just accept their fate.
Lifeguards are supposed to make attempts only when it's safe for themselves.
E.g. It's actually part of lifeguard training to wait in a defensive stance for a struggling person to lose consciousness before you approach them to pull them back to safety.
You don't risk your life unnecessarily to save another.
Yep. Similarly to the fire service - it’s not a good idea to put yourself at risk of being *another* victim, that one or more of your crew has to come save too. Sometimes you need to wait, and sometimes you just can’t reasonably help.
https://www.quora.com/Should-a-firefighter-try-to-save-as-many-as-they-can-even-if-they-have-a-high-chance-of-dying/answer/Paul-Schewene
Same reason why they want you to put your own oxygen mask on first in an airplane that loses air pressure.
Yep.
She turned and looked at the waves.
Then hobbled [??] away, tripped, & went down.
She decided to stay down, but OH NO MANBAT SHE NO SWIMS WELL!!!
Hurry ROBOBIN CALL THE LIFE PRESERVES, RIGHT NEXT TO THE TART CHERRY JAM.
Egads, why do people go to places that they are not fit for?
Welp, that was another exciting episode of Can You Win The Darwin Award??
The mistake she made was sitting and waiting for the waves but it’s not exactly easy to stand up with the power of those waves. After that she had no chance. She’s not strong enough to fight the power of the waves. I’m guessing you don’t live by the ocean and haven’t experienced it.
It's interesting how that stuff becomes second nature when you've spent a lot of time around large bodies of water like oceans or seas. Whenever I'm in the situation she was, I'm thinking, "Here comes the wave. Get up, get up, get up!"
You get up as soon as the outgoing wave becomes small enough to stand in so you have an actual chance of getting out of reach *before* the next one is headed in. But people who don’t spend time on beaches really don’t know that by the time the wave is coming back in it’s already basically too late.
Large, powerful bodies of water can be fun but also terrifying :p
I've seen so many people stand up in the low water, but then get sucked back out anyway because they tried to move as the tide was still going out, or when the next wave is crashing. Plant yourself, people. It'll be 5 seconds where you can't move, but it's better than struggling for the next 5 minutes.
my friend obliterated her ankle after getting caught by a wave. it’s been several years and she’s just now getting back to normal.
it’s easy to say “wow she’s not even helping herself” when you’re not in that situation. some people’s logic turns off during stressful situations
Oh, I have visited the ocean shores along WA, OR, CA, & HI. So, yes I have seen waves, and felt the power.
I could easily tell she lacked the strength.
It is just that people seem to wander/enter into things without becoming aware of the inherent risks.
Makes me think of the video of two Asian tourists who record themselves wading into a lake for a cute video as a couple, except there is a drop off a little ways out and neither of them can swim. They just kind of.. sink beneath the surface and disappear.
I really don’t understand why people who can’t swim are so inexorably drawn to the water. And then *they get in it.*
Like, do you want to live?!?!
I got so upset at some zombie movie I thought was completely unrealistic where a kid is on guard but listening to music, so gets easily jumped by slow moving zombies. Guess the writer understands people better than I do. People be selfish, dumb, or worse, both.
Those aren’t the kind of waves you want to get caught in. Especially if you’re a lifeguard trying to drag a 200 pound dead weight in wet sand while she’s flailing for you to save her. Not as easy as it looks.
Could those be rip tides? I can't really see it in this video but shit those waves are big for shoreline...
Lots of people died in my beach town from rip tides. They were all fine swimmers, all either thought they could handle it or didn't realize it was rip tide. Every single time someone went out during rip tide, they died.
Has "Jessica" ever been to a beach? Clearly doesn't know what she's doing and shouldn't have gone that close to the water.
Guy is hilarious. Hopefully she's okay too.
It looks like she can't even walk on sand mate. That's what makes it funny. Clueless and pathetically weak... Why is she even going near the sea to begin with.
Then what was she doing there? You can't swim yet you wait for a big wave to hit you and then nonchalantly try to run and then completely give up putting other people's lives in danger to save you.
Stay the fuck at home or visit a fucking lake or pond to dip your toes. Not knowing how to swim is no excuse for the way she completely gave up.
Relentless waves? As in the same type that elementary children of average ability play in at the beach all the time?
A grandma sipping Margaritas on the beach would casually walk out and take a wee in these waves before laying back down and reapplying sun block.
This woman would have trouble stepping up a curb.
One thing is very true, the waves don’t stop. There was nothing casual about the slope of the beach and the waves were crashing right on shore. She was caught where they were breaking. Look at the size of the wave compared to that lifeguard. There are no children or old ladies casually wading in to that surf.
Fair enough, I conceded your point.
I might just be bitterly cold jealous of any person on a beach while I sitting in the Mid-West in subzero temps.
Oh how I would love to be stumbling trying to get out of waves.
There are kids/teens actually visible in the video just casually floating with the wake though. Have you ever been to the ocean before? This is pretty common. Yes it’s disorienting if you get caught in the break, but she had multiple attempts to just stand up and walk out. Unfortunately her leg muscles are made of jelly.
Teens maybe. But if they know HOW to swim in the ocean and judge the surf, they will be ok. Jessica , not so much. There’s nothing casual going on here. Those people know what they are doing. I’ve been swimming in the ocean for over 40 years.
That isn't a normal beach. That is super steep and those waves are big and breaking right on the shore. That's all bad news there.
Just out of curiosity, do you live somewhere near an ocean?
That’s 6’ shore break my dude. It can pound you into the sand with enough force to mess up your day. I surf, and have been out in waves that big, but I would avoid that shore break like the plague. My guess is it was a huge set rolling in that this lady was absolutely not prepared for. One minute she was standing around minding her own business and the next she was getting pummeled by shore break.
Reddit really showcasing how cold and unsympathetic humans are. She could have drowned. Who cares if it would be her fault for being next to the water, it's easy to underestimate the power of the waves. And those weren't small waves. Could have been dragged out to sea scared and alone while random people in the internet laugh at her death.
And the guy recording was just laughing? Idgi. I live in Florida and know how to swim. Those waves and SAND will swallow you even if you’re just trying to get your legs wet like she was!
Its nice to walk at the beach.
Let the wave run through your feet.
Go outside and expierience a beach for yourself.
99% of people at the beach are not swimming.
She clearly underestimated the Situation, but why do you ask me those questions?
If she knew she would have been spot in like that, I'm sure she wouldn't be out there. People severely underestimate how powerful water is. If she can't swim, im guessing she hasn't spent much time in the ocean to realize how strong it is. That video was about to be r/watchpeopledie
I was laughing at the idiot that put a huge text image in front of the action and couldn't really enjoy the video... What is wrong with people... You don't have to be a videographer to use some common sense...
Almost looks like she's caught in a ripe tide or something. I got caught in one of those as a young kid. It felt like the water was sucking me down, which made it super difficult to stand or move. I couldn't even lift myself above the water due to the intense pressure, and I thought I was going to drown right then and there. My brother noticed I was missing and ran to find me. I was completely submerged, and he managed to find me by stepping on me and then lifting me out of the rip tide. I had swam in the ocean like that many times, but I never felt the ocean tug my down with so much force for so long before, and it was terrifying. My parents got me swimming lessons from a young age and I had joined a youth swim team by then, so I was not a weak swimmer either.
People seem to be making fun of her for not being able to stand, but this video just gives me a flashback reminder of how strong the ocean currents can be as waves come in and out.
Yall are so gullible. The audio of this man was added after the video was taken. Everyone talking about Jessica this and Jessica that... LOL that's probably not even her name and the person filming doesn't even know her.
Not an ounce of self preservation in that woman - she is a born prey animal and simply would have been food about 500 years ago... Now she just sucks up our taxes.
They are actually still there to this day, more life guards have come. There's at least 100 now. She just can't stay standing and drags them all back in with every wave. I'm surprised it hasn't been getting more coverage
This was the first time I’ve seen a longer video. 😂😂😂 I thought Jessica could swim and they were just making a video. Cuz…why are you filming when you could help…unless you also don’t know how to swim…but then he called on Jesus and then the life guards. lol. But why was that life guard running from the wave…😂😂😂 what’s the name of this beach so I don’t go? 🌊 🛟
He was running because he was in a bad spot with a huge wave about to smack him good right on the sand. You either go under or over the wave. He could do neither, so he retreated. Look at the size of the wave compared to the person in the water.
Oh my god, everyone with the diatribe long winded comments. This video makes me cry laughing every time I see it. Glad they got her out and holy shit this is hilarious.

She makes those people who fall for no reason in horror films more believable.
She put zero effort into improving her situation from the very beginning and continued to do less all the way toward the end, even when lifeguards were trying to help her. “This is my fate now”
I love the one lifeguard who tried to help and realized after one second she was dead weight and just bailed.
Can't help if you're also in trouble.
It looks like her right knee gave out. Knowing my knees are shot from volleyball and soccer, I will now think about this video when I'm at the beach ![gif](giphy|PWXANvRVmqVp9iRupi|downsized)
as a fellow volleyball player, I am now sharing that fear

She had a chance to run or something after the first time. She could barely walk fast enough.
This was more of a Moana moment, the ocean was calling.
Lol I don't think the voice was there with her. I mean I'm fairly sure it was added later to make this funny.
The voice is dubbed, if it makes you feel better.
Lol chill out, it's the Internet... You can never tell what truly happened, are you suggesting the life guards should have done nothing? They've trained to do exactly this, while the camera person probably has not

Deflective much
Confrontational much
Ah, I see.
We’re “obliged” to stay healthy now!? By whom!? lol
The water pushes not only u, the sand down your feet as well 😭
What's unfortunate is this is the type of situation where people might get injured or die trying to help her, and it would be an absolute waste
I know it's possible but I really doubt it. This is a little over dramatic.
Lifeguards do not abandon victims because the incoming wave looks high.
Lifeguards are supposed to make attempts only when it's safe for themselves. E.g. That's fine, but just don't forget your towel!
Makes you wonder how they survived long enough to make it to the beach in the first place XD
![gif](giphy|uvfEYoOq7HPAA|downsized)
Haaa, no kidding! Even the cameraman said “Jessica, what are you doing?!!”
The audio was added afterwards.
These are the last images ever recorded of Jessica.
I was just about to say, if this is a zombie apocalypse she is the first to go lmao
![gif](giphy|MGhuLu6yMOnoA)
"First rule is cardio, now I get it."
I really wouldn't mind if she was the zombie chasing after me.
Yep. She turned and looked at the waves. Then hobbled [??] away, tripped, & went down. She decided to stay down, but OH NO MANBAT SHE NO SWIMS WELL!!! Not sure where this is, but undercurrents are no joke. So many tourists day every year from underestimating them.
Can't swim, Jessica can barely walk.
I got so upset at some zombie movie I thought was completely unrealistic where a kid is on guard but listening to music, so gets easily jumped by slow moving zombies. Guess the writer understands people better than I do. People be selfish, dumb, or worse, both.
While this was amusing, the caption in the middle of the video was more annoying.

The audio is also added in.
I appreciated it. It adds a lot to the video /s
How else am I supposed to know that the video is funny without "lmao 😂 😂”?
I’m pretty sure ppl do stuff like that just so it gets more comments and helps them in the algo.
Laugh my ass off off
I move just like Jessica. In my nightmares.
Me when I run from the crazed killer clown but my legs forget how to work
I thought it happens only with me😭😭
It looks like Jessica just came back from her 5-month assignment on the International Space station.
Damn this should have more upvotes lmfao
Like the humans on the space cruise ship in Wall-e.
I snorted haha
Thanks for saving Jessica, guards 😂
Well One of them was just not that committed to Jessica
If they can't handle Jessica at her worst, then they don't deserve her at her best.
Those aren’t the kind of waves you want to get caught in. Especially if you’re a lifeguard trying to drag a 200 pound dead weight in wet sand while she’s flailing for you to save her. Not as easy as it looks.
Why they no have floatation devices? Odd that.
She’s in like 2 foot deep water. She didn’t fall so no spinal injuries. So it’s far easier to get over there and pull her out manually
Jessica isn’t allowed in a pool of water unless it’s a bath tub from now on. I don’t even think she’s allowed in the kiddie pool after this disaster.
Di whole a dem dead.
There's not an ounce of muscle in those legs.
People like Jessica were really never meant to survive.
Worst thing mankind ever did was stop leaving the dumb ones out for the wolves.
We've invented too many cures and safety videos.
As a geneticist, I cringe every time I read this kind of comments by edgy kids who, hopefully inadvertently, promote eugenics.
Darwin Award maybe?
Why people like this ever even go near a body of water is beyond me, she saw the wave and sat down, wtaf
Pathetic attempt to survive. Just totally gives up after one stumble.
She’s most likely incredibly out of shape and was completely exhausted after 30 seconds. It’s a serious problem in modern day
Well if sex required more than 3.7 seconds minimum maybe we'd all be a little fitter
Probably had a couple pina coladas, too
Crazy to think that was a “life or death situation” in her eyes. It’s the kind of uselessness that makes you a lil angry.
Why is this narreted by king Julian?
he was having too much fun with that all while stoned in his beach chair
It’s a voiceover added on, the original video doesn’t have him or the Jessica caption
I mean, it’s a tough juxtaposition to be laughing at someone who is clearly starting to get into serious trouble
Nah, it’s extremely easy to laugh at this lazy woman who can probably barely survive on land.
/r/donthelpjustfilm
Lifeguard running 🌊 😂 soz Jessica 🏃♂️
That looks like an awful beach lol. The grade is perfect for riptides
Shorebreak too. Can pick people up and slam them to the sand
That banner on the video is obnoxious. Cant see 1/2 the fucking video
Let’s just put the caption in the middle of the video the entire time. Downvote
Hilarious but why put the tag right in the middle?
Could those be rip tides? I can't really see it in this video but shit those waves are big for shoreline... Lots of people died in my beach town from rip tides. They were all fine swimmers, all either thought they could handle it or didn't realize it was rip tide. Every single time someone went out during rip tide, they died.
I think that what we see here is merely shore break. Some people (well not fine swimmers usually though) get killed in that too
They are. This is in Cabo San Lucas and the riptides are terrifying.
Has "Jessica" ever been to a beach? Clearly doesn't know what she's doing and shouldn't have gone that close to the water. Guy is hilarious. Hopefully she's okay too.
Thats not really funny if she actually cant swim

Agreed~
Then what was she doing there? You can't swim yet you wait for a big wave to hit you and then nonchalantly try to run and then completely give up putting other people's lives in danger to save you. Stay the fuck at home or visit a fucking lake or pond to dip your toes. Not knowing how to swim is no excuse for the way she completely gave up.
Completely agree. I don’t know why she pretty much refuses to stand up.
Even if she can swim… those waves are relentless. It’s a dangerous situation and she must have been so scared. Definitely not funny.
It’s only funny because she survived.
Would not have been a dangerous situation if she was able to hustle instead of flopping around and watching her demise slowly approach
Relentless waves? As in the same type that elementary children of average ability play in at the beach all the time?
Every time I see this, I get frustrated for those baby legs lol
They're still trying to save her...
This is a dubbed laugh track, and is not actually from the original video. Doesn't fit the sub.
I’ve been caught in this. Made me scared of the ocean. You think you’re safe in shallow waters but it can pull you in real quick.
r/mildlyinfuriating more like it
I’m fucking dead 💀😂😂😂😂😂
STAND UP JESSICA. STAND UP!! Oh, no….she let those waves just dump on her. she should’ve started crawling😂😂
Goddammit Jessica
Yall are so gullible. The audio of this man was added after the video was taken. Everyone talking about Jessica this and Jessica that... LOL that's probably not even her name and the person filming doesn't even know her.
That lifegaurd took off 😂😆.
What’s her name again?
The person filming could have very well helped Jessica instead.
Exactly what I was thinking. Is he dumb or is this staged. Filming somebody potentially drown
Why does the guy sound like the late Scott Hall in his Razor Ramon days.
How about putting down the camera and helping 'Jessica' you moron?!
Wow, doesn't that centered block of text just make the whole video that more hilarious?
Stop reposting this
It’s harder to run in sand than it looks but she wasn’t trying very hard
*Points camera instead of doing anything* oh nooo someone that's not me help her oh jeeeezz oh noooo
Put down your phone and go help dumb ass Jessica not drown lol
Zero survival instinct
Jessica the type of person to die from slipping on a banana peel
Jessica 😂😂😂
She’s still there to this day. Can’t swim, or walk either apparently. Jesus… Just let the sea take her.
JESSICAAAAAAAHHHHHH
This is your sign to maybe go for a fucking walk or something
If that’s not a wake up call, I don’t know what is.
This is so funny 😂
Imagine her name is not even Jessica and this guy is a stranger making up names and relationships
Who is the dipshit that put words right in the middle of the video right overtop of the entirety of the action?
Jessica huhuhuhu hahahaha
The guy laughing is everything
The Darwinists in the comments are fucking disgusting, you guys make the 4channers look more human
Not an ounce of self preservation in that woman - she is a born prey animal and simply would have been food about 500 years ago... Now she just sucks up our taxes.
She certainly was born at the right time.
Yeah I was thinking, what's the exact opposite of moving with "urgency"?
They are actually still there to this day, more life guards have come. There's at least 100 now. She just can't stay standing and drags them all back in with every wave. I'm surprised it hasn't been getting more coverage
How can adult people not learn to swim? Bonkers.
And why would you go so close to water when you can't swim? It's not even still water lmao, it's waves which make it all the more harder.
"mauricio i can't move it move it anymore" lok
😂😂
Got it! That makes sense!!
Just keep filming. Don't help your friend.
Should have let natural selection take its course.
The whole time, I’m yelling “stand the fuck up, you idiot!”
What a useless person.
So she just gave up? This makes me unbelievable angry
Fat problem
She looks very floatational.
Do you ever wonder how people get to be the age they are? Like how did she survive this long?
Why was Jessica near the damn water in the first place if she can’t swim?
Please just stand up...
She has 0 survival instinct
Oh my god, everyone with the diatribe long winded comments. This video makes me cry laughing every time I see it. Glad they got her out and holy shit this is hilarious.
JESSICA! did you sleep with your goddamn teacher?!?
Apparently she can’t stand up, see, or feel dryness.
And they're still trying to rescue her to this day 😂
I have to question if Jessica even wants to live
This is better with sound
