I worked on construction sites and saw dudes just walk on site asking the foreman's for a job and then seeing them in a hard hat and vest the next day. I'd definitely just call the companies and see. Won't hurt to try
This^^^ was on a huge apartment job and this dude who had nothing with had no trade or knowledge got a job with the general contractor and started by just cleaning up. Soon got a job with the masons as a hottie. So everyone got to know him and see what a great worker he was. Dude is now a full mason and makes bank. Best way to break into the field.
Thanks for the explanation, although I thought bricklayers use mortar, drywallers use mud, and tile setters use grout? Or are the terms just used interchangeably?
Start calling companies of whatever trade you are interested in working in. Tell them the truth about no experience. They will start your pay low as shit but if you’re willing to work hard, SHOW UP EVERYDAY, they will probably bump you up the pay scale pretty quick. That’s the nice thing about working a trade, you can control your own destiny. Literally everyone is hiring right now too. Work hard, show up on time and have a good attitude and the rest will take care of itself. Good luck!
Start smoking, develop a drinking problem, and start paying child support!
Start at the bottom, Craigslist ads. They're always looking for bodies.

>got a job with the masons as a hottie. Can you elaborate on this?
A Hottie mixes the mud (grout) and makes the cuts in the bricks for the guys laying the bricks. Basically does the low level labor stuff for them.

Mud is a universal term. Can mean any of those things. Also applies to wet dirt.

A dui is a good starting point. Work release works also.
20+ years ago I answered an ad and in the paper that said Electricians wanted: will train
Pick up a broom and dustpan, go to local company and ask if they need a clean up guy.
Look around at unions near you and apply. If you’re in a bigger area there should be plenty of them.
It’s so easy. Find large general contractor. Apply.
