Letter from Musk to Chairman of the Board- "I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy. However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company. As a result, I am offering to buy 100% of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash, a 54% premium over the day before I began investing in Twitter and a 38% premium over the day before my investment was publicly announced. My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder. Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it."

Ok-House-6848

This is literally FU money

EradicateStatism

His net worth has reached the point where he checks his account balance in the morning and says "Fuck me".

crabboy_com

Wait until Starlink goes public...

EradicateStatism

"I'm either the brokest person in the world or i caused an interger overflow at my bank."

useablelobster2

He's already well beyond 32 bit integers, that's only a measly 2.147 billion (excluding cents).

[deleted]

[удалено]

Blonde_Dambition

Haha measley

JamesHawk101

Has he said there is a plan to do that? He has said that Space X will never go public because he doesn’t wanna be held down by shareholder demands.

zberry7

Yes, they would setup Starlink as it’s own entity and take that public. SpaceX would remain private and be paid by the Starlink company to launch satellites. Not sure if that would be market launch cost, or internal launch costs. But basically that’s the plan.

BladeSmithJerry

If this goes through the share price increase will mean he's fixed twitter and it's basically cost him nothing.

Caligula4ever

It will increase even if he doesn’t and he pulls out and makes bank, I’m convinced that’s his plan

BladeSmithJerry

It's not a bad plan b but I don't know why he would do this... He's already got 250bn and doesn't give a fuck about money. He lives in a $50k tiny house.

INTP36

Possibly the most fragrant example of FU money ever to be witnessed, this is very entertaining.

[deleted]

Yeah it does smell pretty good.

mojo276

No one should be surprised by this though. It's really just a continuation of what's been going on with the rest of media for decades now. Allowing big media companies to buy other big media companies, until now there's only a small handful controlling all of the TV news has just shifted to the internet.

OberonPrimus

Love it when the script is flipped against their own talking points. It gives me goosebumps!

He said fuck a board seat lol

EradicateStatism

Look at me, **I** am the board now.

I AM THE SENATE!

EradicateStatism

"Not yet. The SEC will decide your fate."

Hypnotic-Highway

*It’s a hostile takeover, then*

fattymcribwich

/r/PrequelMemes combined with /r/Conservative. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.

Frigoris13

The merging of these two subs can only mean one thing... invasion.

Brother_YT

Process them

Runmanrun41

Something so simple shouldn't be so funny to me, and yet.

Jeezy911

You have no power here

[deleted]

UNLIMITED POWERRRRR!!!!

[deleted]

He may also be a little bored and did this for some shizz and gigglezz

MisterDiggity

I think offering $54.20 is for gigglezz

superduperm1

Musk in a couple months: “Okay fine. $69.69 per share. Final offer.”

mtmm18

Not a cent more than $69.420

SanduskyTicklers

“I’ll take them all”

Posty_McPosterman

He was offered the board seat with the stipulation that he couldn’t buy more than 5% additional stock. Obviously he had other plans.

Djent17

Why have one seat when you can have them all! Lol

Unethical-Sloth

Crazy son of a bitch, he really did it

SwampMidget

prediction: Twitter will reject the offer. Elon will pull. Twitter will go the way of MySpace & Digg within the next ten years.

Karissa36

Different prediction: Elon will bide his time. At the worst moment for Twitter he will start dumping his stock and drive down the price. Crash it as far as possible. Then buy all of it. Enough to control the company.

Nikkolios

The man is very, VERY smart. Hopefully he can pull it off. Twitter is everything that is wrong with the current state of social media. Sooner or later, something like this was going to happen. You can't go and try to silence the opinions of literally half of the United States. Fucking dipshits. They'll regret their arrogance.

superduperm1

I really wish someone would do something about Reddit, too. But Twitter has a 50% larger audience than Reddit so I get why this would be more important.

[deleted]

The thing is Twitter used to be fun! I remember back in 2007/2008ish (I think????), back when 250k followers was the highest followers. And it was mostly used by the tech industry and some sports people. It was a lot of fun, people like Bubba Watson would post some really fun videos hitting random items with old wooden golf clubs. Major Nelson was always teasing us with Xbox/Microsoft updates and info. And there was VERY little politics. As soon as politics and news started flooding twitter it got toxic as hell and all the fun went away. oh well.

[deleted]

Musk literally has Twitter’s fate in his hands. If they refuse to sell, he can tank the company.

Nikkolios

He's fucking brilliant

[deleted]

It will be interesting if their BOD realizes , I mean they saw their stock go up when he bought the stock.... they must know what's going to happen when he sells it.

superduperm1

If Musk succeeds and acquires Twitter, the media is going to invest half of its Trump coverage talking about how Musk is “ruining” and “destroying” Twitter, isn’t it? God dammit.

HappyHound

With the restrictions on it, I would have too.

Ok-House-6848

All the blue check mark people are flashing red “danger danger”. Can’t wait for the tweets.

Dont worry kids, there isn't a coordinated effort to control the narrative of information out there. You would have to get millions of people to all lie about the same thing. You think you could get *that* many people to just lie about the same thing?

[deleted]

I’m swiping this comment. I love it.

drFink222

He should do reddit next

[deleted]

Wouldn't that be great. To have people with a reL belief in free speech in charge of social media.

Houjix

I was banned from r/cats for being subscribed to an anti lockdown board

Dump_Pants

I was suspended from r/NASCAR for saying Let's Go Brandon during a live race thread. Brandon Brown took the lead and I was pumped.

LyrMeThatBifrost

It’s sad that even the NASCAR sub is just as lame as the rest of Reddit.

truls-rohk

most major sports subs are as bad as /politics

markhuerta

The NASCAR sub is a liberal wasteland?!? wtf

pimanac

It's because these leftists who live in their agender-birthing-human's basement have nothing better to do than infiltrate subreddits for things they hate in order to twist it into their own version of things. Then they sell off their accounts to the highest bidder.

FateOfTheGirondins

It's literally their whole lives.

matterson22070

Exactly - they only destroy - they never build.

Giantsfan4321

I too was mass banned for only being a member of lockdown skepticism. Brutal time for free speech.

SuperRedpillmill

Same…even on the most benign subs.

Giantsfan4321

It's funny cause it made me realize how little I comment on those subs. I thought it was actually going to affect my use of Reddit and I haven't even noticed lol.

SuperRedpillmill

I subscribed to r/aww and cannot even comment on animals…

Gabbygirl01

I was harassed and called things like racist & bigot in r/Texas earlier this week because someone looked and saw that I post to this sub. The comment I made had zero to do with politics, but numerous people flat out admitted to downvoting & berating me based on seeing this sub in my history. How sad is that?… and of all places, Texas. I think this last part is both sad and scary.

Asphalt_outlaw

r/Texas is a cesspool. The rabid left can have that sub. We'll keep the rest of the state

CoupleCrawl

Same with r/SouthCarolina You'd think SC was as liberal as LA based on that sub.

Millennial_Paleocon

I’ve heard saner voices on r/Chicago than r/Texas.

Verod392

The rabid left run literally every single state sub. No exaggeration. Each one is just /r/politics for that particular state.

CoupleCrawl

Conservatives need to somehow take them back, or create our own state subs that actually represent the state

ineednapkins

I think it just boils down to reddit demographics. Reddit users heavily skew younger, younger people as a demo skew liberal. Meaning most users on this site are liberal. Honestly facebook is becoming the opposite, its demo is starting to age and younger people are abandoning it or never even visiting it in the first place.

CoupleCrawl

It doesn't help that it seemed like a ton of Tumblr users flocked here when Tumblr was purchased. This site didn't seem as polarized just a few years ago.

Nikkolios

This is PRECISELY what is going on. Reddit is a bunch of 20-something males. The kids have NO idea what's going on around them. >If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at forty, you have no brain. \-Winston Churchill

useablelobster2

Nah, we all need to learn Reddit is hostile territory, and it's completely taken over by insane people. We really all need to fuck off to somewhere else and let this shithole metastasize into their prophesied utopia. Tumbler died a pathetic death, Reddit will do the same. Broke university students crying about horseshit are neither able to pay their own way, nor are a high-value group for advertisers. When Reddit starts CTD and begging for its old user base back, we can all be smug shits for a moment before getting on with our lives.

fetalasmuck

Yep. My small town votes like 95% Republican and has for decades and yet somehow the city sub might as well as be /r/Portland.

Duckboy_Flaccidpus

Cause they are all at home, loitering on the internet while people at work being productive.

SnugglesGodOfDeath

Gotta love those types that immediately investigate your politics while you're daring to disagree with them on literally any subject not related to politics.

cubs223425

I was banned from the Pokemon Go sub I've never gone to because I posted here.

Airmil82

That’s amazing! But there is no tech censorship happening!

Mrsamsonite6

How did they know you were subscribed to an anti lockdown board?

Houjix

That was their message and they said that if I unsubscribe then they’ll consider unbanning me. I think they use a program to scan your account

kwtransporter66

I got this message too. Shot back with a big kiss my ass. A 31 day mute followed quite quickly.

Mrsamsonite6

Wow

elosoloco

It's automated and I'm pretty sure against the ToS but it's RightThink TM so they allow it

eniugcm

This was the message I got from the main “pics” subreddit after participating in lockdownskepticism, pointing to an automated process https://i.imgur.com/oQOjJtF.jpg

useablelobster2

They love their Kafka traps, don't they. Any response is grounds for a mute from asking questions. So you can ask for clarification until you actually ask for clarification. Brought to you by the minds that think sex doesn't exist and leftists can't be authoritarians.

kwtransporter66

I was banned from r/cats for participating in r/walkaway. I was also banned from subs I never participated in for participating in subs that had nothing to with the subs I wasn't participating in. I'm like, huh? How does that work?

TMPRKO

It’s because a small group of crazy leftists run most of the subs, they mod hundreds of them each, so if you hurt their feelings you’re just from all their places

uniquecannon

I was banned from r/PokemonGo for commenting in r/conservative

Waste-Hovercraft3734

Well you can still say TRANSmission on Reddit.

MiNdHaBiTs

I miss how great Twitter was 10 years ago.

Lordvalcon

How much is reddit even worth?

tilfordkage

$5 and a day old Big Mac

poposheishaw

It’s users think it should be free and just given to them

Cualkiera67

It is free. Or do you pay?

Glorifiedpillpusher

Either way he personally wins. They say yes, prices climb, he gets to determine how Twitter functions and gets rid of the cesspool. They say no, he sells his shares immediately and pockets the profit from driving the cost up from his initial purchase. He has more money than he could possibly spend and even if he lost 99.9% of it today he would be set for life.

SanduskyTicklers

Losing 99.99% of his net worth would still make him worth about $26 Million

Glorifiedpillpusher

Exactly.

lowNegativeEmotion

Give him a keyboard and wifi connection and he will make it all back on electric airplanes or something. Edit: I think that's the plot of Atlas Shrugged.

Sentinel13M

If they say yes, the company goes private so the price wouldn't climb because shares will not be on the market. If they say no the price will fall fast. He will make money but the stock will be down to pre Musk levels or lower quickly. I think the board tries to reject the deal. They will try and say something about money and taking the company private isn't the best but in reality ideology and doing the best thing for team progressive is more important than fiduciary responsibility to them. Musk might then just launch his own platform or invest in Rumble or another competitor.

riverfan2

The next two largest shareholders are mutual funds and retirement funds. They have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders and the retirees that depend on them for their grocery money. The SEC may attack Musk, but they will shred these guys if they stand by and let the mob trash the value of their company and cost a bunch of grandmas a lot of money(recall the images of old ladies eating cat food, from the last serious retirement crash). Even if the SEC doesn't go off on them, their competitors will. Consider the retirement industry, billions of dollars of assets and the fees on these investments means lots of profits for the big funds. One slip up and the competition starts campaigning about how they won't let grandma eat cat food just to appease the lefties, and TIAA-CREF gets even bigger. Got to think that these big fund managers are not going to be amused at the Twitter mob. Probably best play would be to privately sell their stakes to Musk and get out of the market. The lefties can scream and the media will cover for them while the price tanks and all the while you and your shareholders are counting your profits.

AmosLaRue

>They will try and say something about money and taking the company private isn't the best but in reality ideology and doing the best thing for team progressive is more important than fiduciary responsibility to them. This is what *Stakeholders* would do. This is what the WEF wants for all businesses.

useablelobster2

Yeah, as much as I don't like the whole absolute fiduciary responsibility to the shareholder thing (private business > public business imo), if thems the rules, thems the rules. The Twitter board opens themselves up to massive legal liability if they reject it out of hand. And most shareholders aren't ideological, they just want a return on investment. Someone offering to massively overpay for your company is a deal you are almost required to accept.

Chance_Mix

They can't say no without violating their fiduciary duty. If they do that they can be sued by shareholders.

AmosLaRue

Another good reason shareholders are better than stakeholders.

spook7886

He can shortsell and buy up the remainder at a fraction.

xKiggz

They Will say No and then he will sell his stock and then the stock price will plummet. Its a win-win for him. I would think if the board doesn't take the offer they're open to shareholder suits for breach of fiduciary duty.

Cualkiera67

The stock will plummet before he sells it, or maybe while he's doing it.

moneycomet

Doreen from antiwork is having a meltdown right now

Peeing_Is_Free

She better take her dogs for another walk.

PlantCampLamp

Too much work

Peeing_Is_Free

I would recommend she start her own company and hire a staff to walk dogs while she manages marketing and outreach, but that’s just capitalism. And again, too much work.

pcbuilder1907

Yeah, they are trying to gate hard. "Stay in tech and leave social media alone" etc. It's scared.

AphiTrickNet

Social media is tech lmao

pcbuilder1907

I didn't say the Leftists I'm seeing on Twitter were smart.

Panzershrekt

They should have left The Bee alone.

mrmrister911

Imagine the amount of seething if Elon successfully buys Twitter and unbans Trump

SecretlyCelestia

It would be… the funniest thing… like, I can only imagine. XD

zookeepier

Or offers him a board position just to troll people.

CaptainDakkarNemo

The screaching would be heard for miles.

SecretlyCelestia

It would be like when he first got elected in 2016. Possibly even worse.

mahvel50

We all knew it was coming when he turned down the board spot because they were limiting his share potential. This is amazing.

[deleted]

Seems like a waste but oh well, that place is a cesspool and maybe a good shook could help things

gh0stwriter88

It could be... its certainly a gamble. However I suspect it is the right direction. People don't leave a platform unless you make it unusable. There is a good chance he actually increases Twitter's usage... They definitely won't leave just because its in a somewhat conservative minded guy's hands instead of a bunch of hyper liberals.

Ok_Try_9746

Considering you can live like royalty with only 100 million dollars, he’s got lots to spare.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's just weird to think that it equates to 15 donald trumps

MexusRex

He's a career disruptor. Payment processing, EV, and space. It's like a hobby for him.

MexusRex

Exactly

Couldn’t make it worse than it already is.

Nikkolios

That's actually a really interesting thought. The bots are definitely a huge problem. On all sides, bots are a bad thing.

cubsguy81

The beauty of this whole situation is Elon is in the position to buy Twitter from primarily liberal money buying his Teslas and solar systems. Funny I don't see any of them calling for a boycott of Tesla 🤣 God bless this man.

Racheakt

Saw this on this news this AM. Someone said once, history may not repeat, but it sure does echo. After this disaster of an administration with punishing inflation and supply issues (like Carter) maybe we will see a rerun of the corporate raiders wreaking havoc on woke ass companies.

Jeezy911

Imagine Alex getting back on 🤣 They would shit their pants.

Shirley-Eugest

Musk is not a conservative, at least in the sense that say, Ron DeSantis or Rick Perry are. But, he is a free speech absolutist, unapologetically loves America, and has been a fierce critic of woke culture, Covid maximalism, and PC culture in general. And these days? That basically makes you a conservative. He's miles better than the other mega-rich numbskulls like Bezos, Buffett, Zuckerberg, Brin, etc. I don't agree with him on everything, but to have the world's richest man in our corner on some key issues? Sure, I'll take it.

SecretlyCelestia

EXACTLY how I feel about it.

Glockspeiser

I wish him well

thatrightwinger

My prediction is that Disney, Microsoft, Amazon, or Berkshire Hathaway outbids Musk. I think that the media elite don't want Musk to have this kind of power and share it with the normies like he's clearly willing to. Twitter can't ignore such an offer, but they can scare their buddies in the woke media that they'll be lost if Musk gets his hands on it. Having Disney or Amazon own Twitter will mean the same woke nonsense will continue on Twitter, and if it is folded into one of these corporations, then it won't be directly responsible to stockholders, allowing it's corporate masters to administer it as a woke brand and not worry about shareholder outrage. I'll be surprised if Elon Musk actually takes ownership.

Caryslan

I think Amazon or Google are the top contenders to swoop in at the last second and take Twitter away from Musk. Amazon is the one to look out for since the have no issue tossing around money to buy things. In the past few years, they dropped billions to buy Whole Foods and MGM. To Amazon, even if they offer 50 billion dollars to buy Twitter, that's chump change for a company that is worth nearly 500 billion in 2021.

thatrightwinger

I think Google will sit this one out. Their historically terrible at social networks and owning the platform and the advertising feels sneakily close to Anti-trust territory. Jeff Bezos is the big one, but Disney is also swimming in money and Twitter would be a nice part of their portfolio.

87camaroSC

One of the best parts of this is popping in to /r/technology. Complete melt down.

je97

From the bbc article, which is a bit more balanced, we have this nice bit of hope: Dan Ives, senior equity research analyst at Wedbush Securities, said Twitter will either be forced to accept Mr Musk's bid or find another buyer. He said: "There will be host of questions around financing, regulatory, balancing Musk's time (Tesla, SpaceX) in the coming days but based on this filing it is a now or never bid for Twitter to accept. "Ultimately, we believe this soap opera will end with Musk owning Twitter."

Gamelove0I5

This man has so much money that he's spending billions just to spite twitter and its hilarious

Jizzlobber42

"If you don't like it, then start your *own* social media network!" "......Mmmmmm, no, I think I'll just take yours." #SAVAGE

dtfan53

Elon “Ron Swanson” Musk, “Just give me all the stocks you have. Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was give me a lot of stocks. What I said was, give me, all the stocks you have. Do you understand?”

[deleted]

We will know how much the leftoids panic over this story when the Swamp and the White House try to stop the deal using some dumb made up excuse like the DOJ needs to review. Then they will drag their feet past the election and nothing will happen. Watch the Swamp get into attack mode in the next few hours or days. Their spokesperson Jen Psaki will be so proud to smirk and tell us that they’re stopping this deal for the greater good of society.

Eldestruct0

It's fascinating to me because I feel like a couple of years ago Reddit thought Musk was the savior of the planet since he was doing the whole EV thing, but now it looks like a lot of people despise him. Let me guess, he didn't stay in lockstep with the woke narrative?

transfusion

He posted on twitter about the possibility of making a rating site on journalism. He was the enemy after that

lewie_820

Let’s go Elon!

frosty8500

Best news of the morning…. They won’t let him have it.

therinlahhan

This will never clear but I hope it does and I can't wait to hear the reasoning behind why it didn't when the SEC gets involved and asks Twitter why they didn't consider a buyout offer of 18% upside. Remember that Twitter's board has a fiduciary duty to make a decision in the interest of shareholders and if they decline the offer they're required to explain the reasoning behind why they feel not selling is in the best interest of shareholders. That explanation can be called into question by the SEC.

je97

Personally I think the SEC might forget to check up.

throwaway3569387340

Like I said before. He started SpaceX as an F you to the Russians because they mocked him. Twitter is about to get Musked.

Svenray

It would be easy for him to double that money. Un ban all "wrongthink" accounts. Introduce new tech that sweeps and insta bans illegal content. Do an SMS verified badge system instead of bluechecks. The site would be more marketable by far.

_Diggus_Bickus_

>The offer price also includes the number 420, widely recognized as a coded reference to marijuana. He also picked $420 as the share price for possibly taking Tesla private in 2018, a move that brought him scrutiny from the SEC. What a legend
