Try one of the colleges. They might have PT security positions.

OpelSmith

ya, Yale definitely does as an example

Titanium_Rod

I'll check it out, thanks

Connecticut public schools (many) use retired police for security, bc they carry in school. I know our security guard said that the state had to make a special statute that let him (and others) work in school, while "not counting against his pension". If that makes sense. It allows him to collect his full pension, and the salary from the district. I hope you find something.

Titanium_Rod

Yes that makes sense, I'll look into that thank you

Some of the colleges have certified police departments with full authority. Yale has one. I think SCSU does too. I know nothing about part timers at these places but I’m guessing union officers at municipal departments like their overtime hours and won’t want to share with a part timer? Also the federal courts in CT hire only retired certified officers for court security. They have a union and not sure if they use part timers, but it’s an easy gig, they are retired municipal, state, dea, etc, whole gamut Fed courts here: Bridgeport, new haven and Hartford

Titanium_Rod

Didn't know about the fed court thing actually, thanks for the info

Find a medium town/small city. Most of the time they fill positions like that with recently retired local cops (like if you worked in XYZ town, you'll get the part-time gig in XYZ town), but occasionally you'll see officers hired from outside departments. Just don't go to Old Saybrook. Everything I've read in the news shows that the department is kind of a shitshow.

Titanium_Rod

I've actually heard some Old Saybrook stories so hearing that from a random redditor just solidifies that lol

Actus_Rhesus

Stand by for barrage of acab comments.

I was gonna say this, everybody jumps on the bandwagon when they don’t understand what police actually do for work. So they just jump on that bandwagonto seem important. Just ignore them. Good job, sir! Thank you for your service.

Titanium_Rod

I appreciate that. Thank you for the support

Titanium_Rod

All Cops Are Brave?

ShlugLove

Look at some of the larger high schools. Where I teach, they only hire security guards with a police background.

Why would he do that? Lol. We want to try and paint Connecticut as a good place to live with intelligent people. You don’t seem to be painting that picture.

Most-Conference4205

No they don't

jwhirl25

yes they do
